In announcing the changes, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the UK had a "proud history of putting itself at the heart of international collaboration and discovery."
London (CNN)International students will be offered a two-year UK visa after graduation with or without a job, the country's Home Office announced Wednesday, reversing one of the major aspects of former Prime Minister Theresa May "hostile environment" strategy. New Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the changes, which will come into force next year, meant that overseas students would not be forced to leave four months after finishing a degree -- making it easier for them to start careers in the UK. Brits are changing their tune on immigrant workers Brits are changing their tune on immigrant workers "Britain has a proud history of putting itself at the heart of international collaboration and discovery," Johnson said in a statement, adding that the country's scientific breakthroughs "wouldn't be possible without being open to the brightest and the best from across the globe to study and work in the UK."
"That's why we're unveiling a new route for international students to unlock their potential and start their careers in the UK," he said. The new policy applies to international students at the undergraduate level or above, and to trusted institutions with a track record of upholding immigration checks, the Home Office said in a statement. No cap will be placed on the number of students eligible for the visa, nor will there be restrictions on the kinds of jobs they can seek. 'Silly policy' The changes mark a return to a policy that was previously scrapped by the coalition government in 2012 when immigration was considered the most critical issue among the British electorate. At the time, then Home Secretary May branded the two-year post-study visas as "far too generous" and a "symbol of a broken and abused immigration system." A rosier attitude towards immigration appears to have emerged since the 2016 referendum vote to leave the European Union -- which was partly driven by concerns over migration. Wednesday's announcement was well-received amongst lawmakers and business groups who have argued that international graduates provided value to the British economy. As the clock ticks on Brexit, Europe is still in the dark about what Britain wants As the clock ticks on Brexit, Europe is still in the dark about what Britain wants UK Chancellor Sajid Javid celebrated the news Wednesday, saying the "silly policy" should have been reversed "years ago." "Britain should always be open to the best talent from across the world," he wrote on Twitter. Conservative MP Jo Johnson -- the Prime Minister's brother who resigned as universities minister citing "unresolvable tension" between "family loyalty and the national interest" -- praised the move. "Brilliant move by PM (Prime Minister) @borisjohnson. Serious leadership on this issue," he tweeted. "The British Chambers has long called for the two-year post-study work visa to be restored so this decision is welcome, if not overdue," Mike Spicer, Director of Policy at the British Chambers of Commerce said in a statement.
"This visa allows British universities and companies to benefit from the talent and energy of some of the students they have worked so hard to train." However, the lobby group Migration Watch UK called the changes "unwise" and a "retrograde" step which would "likely lead to foreign graduates staying on to stack shelves, as happened before," according to the UK's Press Association news agency. GboltNG: About 188 Nigerians who departed South Africa on Wednesday over xenophobic attacks in the country arrived Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV reports that they arrived at about 9:30p.m. and were received by Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDComm), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and officials of Immigration Service and NEMA.
Recall we had reported sometime last week that Chairman of Air Peace volunteered to air lift those interested to return home free of charge, following a presidential order for them to be evacuated immediately.
Speaking when she received the returnees at the Lagos airport, Dabiri-Erewa assured that the Federal Government would support those who had resolved to return back to the country from South Africa.
According to her, over 640 of them have indicated interest to return home (Nigeria) in the last one week.
“The Bank of Industry will also be here to offer some entrepreneurship programme and some support to start a small business and there would be some stipends for transportation and take home”, he said.
“We are also going to profile them and for those who want to get any training, they will decide what kind of training they want to do and the Bank of Industry will be there to provide it”, Dabiri-Erewa added.

After the sanctions and international isolation were lifted, South Africa quickly became the continent's more favoured ally of developed economies and foreign investors. Pretoria emerged as the recipient of the largest share of foreign direct investment in sub-Saharan Africa and in 2011 joined the BRIC countries in an economic pact formed to challenge the domination of Western economic policy.
It is also an important trading partner that Nigeria cannot afford to lose. South African businesses have major investments in the country, including the DSTV cable service, MTN telecom, the Shoprite supermarket chain and others. Nigeria exports $3.83bn worth of goods, mostly oil and oil products, to South Africa. By contrast, it imports just $514.3m of South African products, which accounts for less than one percent of total South African exports.
The more contrasting feature of the two economies, and which again highlights Nigeria's weakness is that while Abuja levers around a commodity-dependent economy, Pretoria has built a highly-diversified economy with a superior industrial structure. In other words, Nigeria needs South Africa economically, much more than South Africa needs Nigeria.
You have just quoted what I was saying, there ain't no need for military its more of economic war. History has thought us that during such circumstances people thrive as they are forced to think!
Why Nigeria cannot afford a stand-off with South Africa Today Abuja addresses Pretoria from a position of weakness.
At present, it is clear Nigeria does not have the military, the intelligence capability or the diplomatic clout to pursue a serious escalation against even a regional power, such as South Africa.
This diplomatic "standoff" with Pretoria has again exposed the weakness Abuja has masked in parading itself as a self-styled "Giant of Africa". South Africa used to be a bully that Nigeria could restrain through its support for proxies inside the country and its neighbourhood. But since the end apartheid, this relationship has evolved into a regional competition, which Pretoria is winning.
which military? we talking economic war you are talking physical.if for anything we have a thriving consumer market, something even China is trying to do

anyibig: Please guys, I need your help, I'm planning on buying a bmw(it will be my first car) 525xi 2007 from USA, the seller said there's a engine light on and I might need to change the muffler(what ever that means) and it will also need a body work, Now considering doing the servicing and repairs there in USA or I should do the repairs here in Nigeria. Please I need your advise please.
spawnx: Removing the catalyst increases the turbo of the car but can also lead to high fuel consumption because the o2 sensor will be giving wrong readings to the on- board cpu thereby fuel air ratio will be off.
This can be corrected by deceiving the 02 sensors by adding Spacers/adaptor /extender.
There is a way to fool the O2 sensor to give an accurate reading or with a good scanner, you can calibrate it to do so!
jossytech: Faulty research bro. Removed catalist n see as ur engine gulp fuel like v8 jeep. And you'll enormous engine heat
Not true though, these can be deleted and some cars have more than others, these cat converters are put in there cos of govt regulation to cut emissions not for car efficiency!
ahckmedkosy: How does one fix this and what's the average cost.. I am having high emission from my vehicle.
It is not fixable, you can either replace it or forget it! We don't have an emission test in Nigeria so your car won't fail emissions test as we have in the EU and America
NwaliE01: My catalytic converter (indomie) was removed job February when I went to check my exhaust system. The local mechanic told me it has finished. I was astonished. Till today, I am yet to replace it.
jst note these are not repairable, you buy a new one to fit, don't fall into buying a used one, besides these can be deleted, and it has no effect on your car, the only thing you should worry about is ur )2 sensors which in turn can be deleted!
