In other news disappointed for the Hornets. That game 6 they blew came back to haunt them. The east is looking too easy for Cavs even though all games against the Pistons were close. |
They need Curry. Even if not for this series over 7 games but they definitely need him. There is something lacking when he isn't there. I can't explain it. Klay is a big scorer and a defensive asset but Curry's distribution makes his game easier. With Curry today, this game would have been a blow out. I was worried that the GSW bench kept getting outscored by the Blazers bench. Didn't set a good precedence all game but GSW played very good defence on Colum and Lilliard (only spotting them difficult shots). I know many will praise Klay and Green for today, but my player of the game was Bogut. He is an absolute rim protector. I suspect game 2 may be closer if Warriors bench do not deliver. I don't see Blazers beating GSW over 7 games. So I am calling it in 5 or 6 because GSW won't lose back to back games. |
Nihilist:I don't lack anything. Your dead Roach metaphor was Tito on his sick bed winning a title. I am surprised nobody called you out for the disingenuousness of not correlating how Pep's assistant who had the template but was lacking only in health and Je ne sais quoi could steer his already made team to another title. Tito's successors save Enrique didn't replicate anything Pep did and I called you out again for the hollowness of that assertion. The needless rhetorics and defensive retorts will only intimidate people who take note of certain monikers before responding. Perhaps, if quoting your post was the hallmark of true success in life, maybe only the NLders in the football section will be successful. |
Nihilist:It's unfortunate if you felt my emphasis on the sextuple or in calling Pep a genius and Enrique a great coach was based on semantics. What I would rather term as equally stuppid will be the notion that Tito winning just a league title, Tata winning nothing, and Enrique winning 5 out of 6 trophies is synonymous with replicating Pep's success. It is also superficial. That Dead Cockroach won a league title when the Almighty Mou went trophyless in the same season with RM. So maybe that Dead Roach, is better than Mou? If Pep breaking Jupp's record of winning the league with 7 games to go and adding the DFB-Pokal to it in his first season as well as playing a UCL semi-final is not him replicating some of his success at Barca, then I am lost for words. Mou deserves his credit for winning the UCL with Porto and Inter, and whether another coach will replicate his success there is time based. Since Pep left Barca, they have won the UCL just once- last year, which means it is a stretch to say Barca continueS (now employing semantics)to win in his absence except you let me borrow from your school of reasoning and say that since RDM won a UCL with CFC (what Mou couldn't do) then every other achievement Mou had with Chelsea could easily be replicated. |
afrodoc2:With the speed of typing some ideas will be dropped on the way. I was referring to the likes of Riquelme, Pablo Aimar, Carlos Tevez, Ariel Ortega, Aguero, Di Alessandro etc and any other argetine player dubbed the new Maradona. |
Dadehmola:It will definitely be a disappointment, but that's because his high achievements in the past will be juxtaposed with his achievements at Bayern. Losing to RM was scandalous but you cannot have it both ways. Bayern wanted to DOMINATE first and win, they were only able to do one. With Madrid, you had the tactics and personnel that were capable of neuralizing Pep's system and they did with their defensive-counter attacking style with pacy wingers and the ultimate athlete in CR7. People tend to forget that 3 goals in the 4-0 loss came from set-pieces. |
Nihilist:Messi was going to be like every other Argentine player with hype and talent. David Beckham had once finished top 3 in Ballon d'or before, he didn't go on to win any. Micheal Owen didn't win 4 more others. Messi was a raw talent, but nobody raised him to the level of the football pantheon until he came across Pep. Developing another Messi is not the only variable that should judge Pep's genius. Even players like Mandzukic that didn't like his style still enjoyed his most prolific era under Pep. Lewa, great as he has been has 46 goals in all competitions for club and country, he hadn't done this before Pep. Müller is being raised into the top players in the world. His most prolific season is still under Pep's management. |
Nihilist:1. That no team has been able to successfully defend the UCL is not an Alibi for Barca not getting to the semis with the talent at their disposal. 2. Pep's crowing achievement was actually the SEXTUPLE, something Lucho hasn't been able to do with a better squad. 3. And because LVG will win an FA Cup does not mean that all the while Fergie was winning it, Fergie wasn't brilliant. The point is Enrique is a very good coach but Pep is a genius. |
raumdeuter:This is a brilliant post. Really. |
A40:I hate discussing Jupp's success in anyway that will sound like I am demeaning his achievements but you need to understand that in 4 seasons between Jupp and LVG, Bayern appeared in the final 3 times and in one of them Bayern did a treble yet nobody compares or compared them to Pep's Barca of 2008-09. The reason is that Pep played a brand of football that was mesmerising to fans of Cules and opposing fans alike. It wasn't about tactical mastery or parking the bus in some games that Jupp and Mou may adopt depending on the team. It was an all out attacking football with a style that was fluid and easy to watch and that's part of what he was hired for. Also I cannot tire to remind you that Pep was hired when nobody knew Bayern would do a treble. So he was being hired to do better than Jupp had done in 2012 essentially. Remember most of Jupps wins were purely tactical and scrapy? Even the win against Dortmund was, but compare that to the 2 finals Pep played where he basically destroyed United. Fergie even said they were given a hiding in the latter. That's why Pep was hired. Stop judging based on if he can play "just about anything" to win games or trophies. He won't do that. |
GBR1:1. I told you my frequency is beyond the realms of the ifs and maybes. That's pseudo-intellectualism. I don't understand why the timeline is 7 years all because you want to use strawmen to sustain a weak assertion. Did Galacticos policy not exist in 2000, 2002, 2003 when Madrid won 2 UCLs and played 1 semi-final? So why should I celebrate Mou for getting to 3 semis following the same money-frittering, star-aquiring policy? And what LFC team was mediocre? The same one that got to 2005 final and won? The same 2007 finalists? The same 2008 semi finalists? So if without Jose, Ance wouldn't have won the UCL then without Ranieri Mou would not have gotten to the semis with CFC and without Mancini Mou wouldn't have won the UCL in 2010. How does that work for Mr (il)logic Who is this balderdash-vending machine I am discussing with? 2. So if getting to 3 semis is improving on a team that was barely getting past the round of 16 (which is fair) then tell me how Pep is to improve on a team that just won the UCL? In your inane world getting to the final is improving on winning it? 3. Mou took a semi finalist side of 2005 and crashed them out in the round of 16 the following season. He truly improved them. Going by the bafflegab you keep spewing Mou should have gotten to the final in 2006 and probably won it in 2007. Let me tell you what he did? He crashed out in 2006 and he was fired in 2007. He came back 2014 and took a CFC side that had just won the UCL 2012, Europa 2013 and got them to a semi final in 2014. Going by your odeism he relegated a team from 2012 winners to 2014 semi finalists. 2015 we saw him crash out round of 16 again and 2016 he was fired again. But a manager that takes a team to 3 consecutive semi finals with the previous 2 times losing to the eventual winners is underperforming. It is good you have nothing more to say. You have been saying nothing for a full day now so it only makes sense that you will have more of it to say. |
A40:1. No I didn't shift the goal post. You asked my definition of end product and I said so. Padded stats was my way of saying stats don't always tell the whole tale. Suarez can miss 7 easy chances in a game and score 3 penalties. The stats will say he had a hattrick, but watching the game, one may have told another story. 2. Again I am not taking anything from Coman, I know he is a good player. 3. We thank God for Jupp. Before his 5 straight wins and Treble season he went one where he won nothing and didn't have 5 wins on his way to the UCL final and I don't think many teams (if any) have had such a winning streak on a way to a final. So credit Jupp, but nonetheless for Mr consistency- Pep ![]() |
GBR1:This is 10 Zimbabweean dollars worth of piffle. 1.The semi finals are not KO stages? How did he get them past that? This must be the season for dumbo clats. 2. Why do I need to downplay beating Lyon, Auxerre, Tottenham and then failing to Barca, Bayern, Dortmund as achievements? Is this mediocrity o clock? So the Pep that has been reaching semis is doing less a job considering that since Mou left RM someone else has won La decima and there have been back to back semis for them but since Pep left Barca the same cannot be said. 3. 2nd Trial, 3rd trial, needless bloviations. He flopped one season. Added 7 players and did well. Big deal again. Pep inherited a Barca that needed to play qualifiers to be in the UCL and made them sextuple winners same season. 4. The emboldened is Kevin Hart material. I see you carefully inserted the word ALMOST to do damage control to your earlier brain-fart of an assertion. Good enough you stood to take the correction. 5. Again with the dumb hypotheticals which seems to be your thing. He took a RM squad constituting of atleast top 2 players in each position and went to back to back semis. But the illogic you guzzle as water wants to make you believe he will suddenly be reaching finals consistently with Bayern when he could not do it with a better RM team. So pray tell, why didn't he take UCL winners of 2012 to another final with all the resources at his disposal? Why was he hell-bent on getting them relegated instead? Why didn't he break the jinx of consecutive semis with an expensively assembled RM team and get to 1 final? Mehn, hit control +S on your BS ideologies about Mou and what he could have achieved for someone who cares and believes in ifs and maybes. |
GBR1:Butthurt. 1. Mou always improves his team in Europe- No he doesn't. Ranieri had been to a semis with less of a team. 2. RM weren't getting past group stages prior to Mou- lies. They had played at least 3 2nd round games prior to him. 3. Mou improved in Inter in Europe, after 3 tries and 7 signings. 4. If he had been at Bayern. Hopeless hypotheticals. He had more resources at RM- zero finals. Great resources at CFC- no finals. Any more illogic to peddle? |
A40:I am sure Chamberlain has had a season as this before. It is the beauty of padded stats. I am not saying Coman is not a good player. But by end product I mean his general finishing is very weak. If one was to look at the stats for example, I can guarantee 4 of his assists will come in games that Bayern scored say 3 or more goals and his assist may even be the last (which means the game was already sealed). Not taking anything away from him but just showing you how stats don't tell the whole story. Your second statement just typifies it- his delivery let him down yesterday. As for the team Pep has met, you beat what's in front of you. Jupp finished equal points with Valencia group stages with Bate and Lille and barely beat Arsenal in both legs. But he swept Barca. Football can be that way. Jupp played Basel and Marseille too before RM in 2012. Basel and Marseille are not exactly teams to dance about and RM was on penalties which Pep can still do with ATM. |
GBR1:Mourinho fanboys and illogic. 1. Mou played 3 seasons in spain he won just a league title. Pep had 4 seasons and won 3. When Pep was winning the 3 you people said it was because Barca was a good team. Okay, Mou had an equally good RM team and couldn't win it more than once. So help me extrapolate it into Bayern. Because I don't even remember Jupp winning league titles back to back and he went 2 and a half seasons there. 2. Mou is in Chelsea. Flops the first season. We can forgive him. Then he wins the league and Carling cup the following year- Hurrah! Season after he takes the SAME team and is on course to relegating them, that he has to be fired by his bosses. With the same self-serving and rehashed illogic, what is to stop Mou from taking a title winning Bayern side and almost relegating them? 3. Again with this hopeless BS about him taking Chelsea to a semis in his first stint. Ranieri had just done same the season before with a squad that wasn't as great as Mou's Chelsea. And with Inter (We must Praise Mou for this) but how many seasons did he see a semi final with them? You guessed it...ONCE after 2 abysmal tries. 4. Bayern played a final 2009-10. Flopped the next year. Got to a final against a weak Chelsea side ahome and flopped again (if this had been Pep he would have been crucified). Then won it the following year (praise Jupp for this). Pep played RM in 13-14, played Barca 14-15 and lost both ties. Big deal. What I am yet to comprehend is how Mou would have gotten through one of either semis? Was he going to beat Carlo's RM or Luchos Barca? If he could, then Chelsea should have gotten to the final in both years because the eventual winners basically thrashed the 2 teams that knocked him off. I don't want to derail this thread with long posts over nothing. Mou almost relegated previous champions. That's his legacy. |
A40:1. I explained the similarities- 1D dribbling and zero end product. I am not saying he doesn't have a bright future. Just showing that like every Juvenile player he tends to do what he has made up his mind to do and not necessarily what the game demands. On so many occasions he tried to beat Luis for pace or just dribble to the right but it was a big fiasco. Anyone watching the game would have seen it. Again why analytics don't tell the whole story always. 2. Both Costa and Coman were playing nonsense but Costa more so because he was in an unnatural position playing as a left footed winger and he was constantly getting double and sometimes triple-teamed. Coman had majorly Luis to contend with all game and he flopped until the latter parts when Luis tired. When Costa was moved to coman's wing, he was at least able to put in 2 decent crosses with his weaker foot. 3. Like I said before I don't defend all Peps decisions as I didn't understand Thiago and then Müller not starting. I personally would have started Müller as Lewa was being frustrated and was the only target man all game. Vidal can only try so much to help. He is no Müller. So yes I questioned the Müller-Thiago issue and would have brought Thiago on as a sub. 4. Ribery reminds me of Neymar alot and that's because they're not dangerous enough seeing that both are not exactly very direct. But I would have started Ribery and Costa and brought on Coman as the sub since he seems to play better when the opposing defenders had tired out. I would have used Ribery's trickery to tire them out and even get Juanfran yellow-carded. 5. As for Ancelloti, We have next season to rate him. Hopefully he will be there long enough to rate him over 3 seasons. See Lucho with a wonderful squad who couldn't get to back to back semis in the UCL. I doubt pep knows what it is like to leave before the semis in his whole managerial career. |
A40, I watched that same game. Coman didn't play well all game. Pep had already given signals that he wanted him off before we saw him make those 2 runs (that did not lead to a final ball, goal or an assist). Coman couldn't beat Felipe Luis all game and his crossing was atrocious! Infact the moments you are referring to as him playing well should go to Lahm (who in my opinion was one of the best players on the pitch-if not the best). Lahm made the decisions for Coman, and coman who reminds me of chamberlain, effed it up with his 1D dribbling and without end product. As for Mou and Carlo, it is quite funny. Carlo could not get past the Quarter finals UCL since 2008 until 2014 and he didn't win a league title in Spain. Mou went trophyless 2014, did well 2015 and almost got his team relegated in 2016. If you feel these are the coaches to win the same amount of trophies with Pep in Bayern, then there's no point debating it. |
bjhaid:Hyperbole. Which year would have been good enough? So Bayern are so much better than Real Madrid and Barcelona that Pep should have won it 2014 and 2015? I don't understand. |
Once you have made up your mind to hang your dog, any thread will be good enough. Conman played "nsi" today. But Bro A40 wanted Conman to start. You didn't criticise Pep for that one. Asking for Mueller to start is just analytics. Yes he is the top scorer. Yes he scored 4 goals in the KO stages. But nothing suggested this would have been his game. I saw Lewa frustrated out of his skin. I saw over a thousand bad crosses from the wingers including Costa. Even at that Bayern held their own and may have been fortuitous to pull a draw. Takes nothing away from Pep. Football is over 2 legs. After all, Lucho played MSN and still flopped. Winning the UCL back to back is not beans. If Pep beat Real Madrid that would have been back to back titles for Bayern which is unprecedented. The following year no team was going to beat Barcelona no matter who you are- Bayern inclusive. Not saying he hasn't made some mistakes but it is not to the tune that it is being exaggerated on here. Today, Bayern made a fair representation of themselves and have it all to play for at the Allianz. See Lucho now, almost looking like he may not do back to back La Liga titles, but Pep did 3 peat with Barca and he is on course to doing same with Bayern. If any Carlo, Mou or Wenger could do it, Bayern won't have tried to offer Pep a new €18M per year contract. All hope is not lost second leg. Allianz has been a centre for correcting past mistakes this season. Atleast Dortmund, Wolf, Arsenal are some of the teams that ate 5. These are teams that recently had good runs at the same venue. Sabali. |
How did Raptors still win that game? |
A40:I agree whole-heartedly. |
Curry was the one bugging to be played since game 1. I doubt Kerr wanted to rush him back. Be that as it may, the Knee sprain was not as a result of being rushed back. JVG (who was one of the commentators for the game) said Curry had complained to the ref just moments before he slipped that that patch of the court was wet but they could not stop the game until the ball was off the court or a timeout was called. If you observed the slip, that 25 year old Houston white kid (I forget his name) slipped at the same spot during the fast break and then Curry followed suit seconds after. My prayer now is that the Clippers vs Blazers game tarries longer so that Curry can get the much needed rest he needs. I totally prefer a sprained Knee to a sprained ankle considering his history with that Ankle. Side bar: Iggy had a big game yesterday. He seems to be a big game player. |
Rumors online saying it is grade 3 and he is out for the rest of the playoffs. I hereby declare that testimony fake, null and void. I have prayed for the Ankle. He will recover in record time. God punish Satan! |
Arcayo:Ok. I agree with you. |
Alot of unnecessary arguments on here. The person saying Vidal and co are goal threats is not wrong. On an average Bayern game, chances could fall to them and they usually bury it. This cannot be said about Pique in Barca because usually Pique is deployed to get goals when Barca are either in dire need of it, or if they are in trouble. On the flip side, yes ATM have a style that can work well against possession teams like Bayern that play a dangerously high defence line, but ATM are yet to face such possession teams with as many goal threats as Bayern and it is a valid argument. Sometimes I sense that the arguments going on here are usually created by the characters saying what and not whether what is being said is valid. |
Arcayo:This is not true if by "all international transactions were done in US Dollar" you mean the actual conversions were done using 199N to a $. No matter the legal tender used to facilitate international transactions, your bank is mandated to make the conversions based on the subsisting rate as instructed by the CBN. So in other words, if I was to pay CAD to a school in Canada that should have set me back by 1M Naira. Even if my bank used USD to make the payment, I am only to be setback by the same 1M Naira and not 1.3M (because they used USD). THAT'S A FRAUD |
Bawss1:I agree. |
Jayne07:I mean this is wrong on all levels. It is also fraudulent. |
Okijajuju1:Very true. |
I know him personally. It is his dad that was the former director of Naval Education and he retired as a commodore. Tomide was born 1988. He finished Secondary School 2005 and read estate management in Unilag but he always had a flair for IT things just like his father. He spent sometime with his younger brother in UK who developed a brain tumor and later passed on, then he returned to Naija 2012 or so. |
Mixty:Hide your lies in many words. NAPIMS funds upstream activities and ONLY that. I don't know if you have rethinks before posting. Luxury Jets they don't get to use? So how do the execs travel? Arik air and Dana? Abeg lie with style. What are JV activities and how can you tell the GMD didn't use the jets only for such activities? You are just spinning yourself with illogic. |
