Health / Re: My Daughter Is Suffering From Pica by ESULAALU: 2:08pm On Oct 24, 2013
Hmm.... does she have any medical condition?

The most likely cause of pica based on some studies has been linked to iron deficiency.

I have read that people with certain medical conditions would usually crave odd things which contain supposed nutrients which their body might be lacking. For instance you might see a pregnant woman craving things like sand, clay, soap, ice, and even ashes. The list is endless, but in reality these things do not even contain any significant level of iron their body would really need.

Just so you know, some people with Sickle cell anaemia would occassionally have these cravings as well but as you know, being anaemic means there is an iron deficiency so I think that also explains the cravings in their case too.

Ironically and on the other hand, craving these weird items does not necessarily mean the person with such condition has a deficiency but I would strongly suggest you take her to see a paediatrician to rule out any underlying issues and might be able to suggest ways to help overcome the cravings.

P.S my niece's first daughter, has virtually drilled a hole in her mother's kitchen wall, all she does is simply stick her tongue in and laps up as much sand as she can. If she feels she is not getting enough, if she gets hold of a spoon then you can be rest assured she would scrape up as much as she can to last her some time. LOL

Bottom line, please seek medical advice as soon as possible, take care and all the best.

maninmood:

Please tell mama to rent a shop and start selling whatever she has subliminal interest and passion in. There are loads of things to sell in Nigeria. Talking about food, clothes, and all other basic needs. When renting a shop, she should rent it in a strategic location where potential customers normally frequent.

Another good comment, God bless you.

OP your wife can looking into selling food stuff( on a very large scale if you understand what I mean), drinks( perhaps as a distributor).

Please do not consider clothing except she is ready to incurr heavy debts. The bottom line is for her to trade in an essential commodity that people will and cannot do without. Please do your findings on this ideas I have given you, I know someone who used to trade in palm oil before the family relocated and I cannot begin to tell you how much profit he made from the trade. You might consider that food stuff is not such a high profile business, but be focused on the profit trust me you will be suprised.

Drinks on the other hand especially beer, soft drinks are a regular in every day life, do you research and you will be amazed at how much people spend on this things.

I wish you the very best.

Apart from investing in properties, the best invsmestment with little or no supervision will have to be for you to invest in your children...invest in their brains...in their morals..and watch your money work for you.
Good luck...grandpa!

This is the best advice ever, I know a man who looking to invest in a property but rather than involve his children he is saying a third party should help him do everything. His children are quite comfortable and settled with family, responsible and matured but in his mind he thinks he is makinga right decision. I sincerely hope he will not cry foul in the future and I honestly wish he had the opportunity to visit this thread.

God bless you for this comment.

Health / Re: Trying To Conceive A Child? TTC by ESULAALU: 2:22pm On Oct 09, 2013
childless: am happy that i finally log in to this place where people trying to conceive are showered with love and words of hope,
i got married since 2002, did sugery to remove fibroid six month bf wedding, tried for 3 yrs after weding no result.
i went for scan and they saw another five big fibroid after removing it with invasive surgery, no child, we headed for ivf, when running the necessary test, they discoverd fluid and blockage in one tube the tube was cut off to enable ivf sucees after first and second failed cycle, they discover endo, they did some procedure to eliminate endo, since 2009 after endo was treated till now i have not missed my menses for one day, even as the docs promise me that i can conceive with one good tube, two months ago i went for pelvic scan, hsg another fibroid was seen again, the one and only tube is blocked, have i come to the end of the road? can i still get pregnant in this type of situation? does any woman has my type of problem and later conceive in this house? pleas i need your suport.

My dear, first of all ignore my username please.

Secondly, the bible and Koran makes it clear enough that no one who believes in God will be put to shame.
You must change your username please.Never you give in to rejection or resign to fate. Who is man that declared a thing when the Lord has not spoken?

Listen my dear mother of many nations( yes that is what you will be) the bible makes us understand that none shall be barren in the land, and yet in another book in the bible this same word is confirmed... ''children are the heritage of the lord and the fruit of the womb is their reward''.

I cannot stress it enough that the lord who created the heavens and the earth does not lie, it may only tarry but his word will surely come to pass. I dont know much about the Koran( just in case you are a muslim) but I am almost certain the promises of Almighty Allah in the koran cannot be any different either.

Why dont you take the first step of faith? Begin this by always prophesying the wonderful promises of the lord into your life everytime most especially in the morning when you arise and shine. Try other medical facilites/Doctors too, seek alternative options there is sure to be light at the end of the tunnel dear. These forum is packed with experienced women(there is one lovely lady called Honeypie24 aka mamalawo lol) ask questions please, I am a man but I dont miss visiting this page in a day because I have learnt a lot and when I share knowledge with people they always marvel. I am grateful to the wonderful women here, God will surely bless you all with that your specific heart desires, that I know.

I hardly comment but your story moved me to comment please cheer up, I see you sharing you testimony. My niece has been through alot as well in the journey of TTC and so you can imagine how it must have felt for me to find this page. I am just trying to tell you that in this journey, you are not alone, please be strong and be of good cheer ok?

Dont forget to change your name ooooo..... God bless you.

For just 8 million? Your friend is willing to sell his kidney? Has he really thought about it? It means he will be living on just one kidney for the rest of his life, Just what if.....?

Well, if he really has to sell his kidney ...seeing as he is ''money- oriented'' then 8 million naira is a paltry sum to make anyone part with such vital organ except of course he means 8 million pounds.

All the best!

Unfortunately death is no respecter of person or deeds if not bad things should never happen to Good people.

I find some of the responses here rather amusing.

Ok poster here is what I 'think' I know....lol

Every time a woman misses her period it doesnt necessarily mean she is pregnant, it could also be delayed.

This could happen due to stress, streneous exercise, depression, anxiety, loss of a loved one amongst other factors but pregancy is not to be ruled out.

However, for pregnancy related purposes, read about the two week window period.

I wouldnt tell you about it because I love to read and I want you to encourage you to do so as well. You can find information about this on the internet but please note that it is not everytime a woman misses her period that it translates to being pregnant.

Health / Re: Can A Man With AS Genotype Marry A Woman With AS Genotype? by ESULAALU: 12:26pm On Sep 25, 2013
Watermelon:

Make up your mind, as for me I will quit the union to save myself and the unborn child/ren a severely agonising life. I bet you would never want to live with a child with an SS genotype if you see the way most of them suffer.

Emaluscope wrote about CVS and I have several concerns about it; what if the test with all the physical and financial rigors turns out to be positive for SS, will you abort or continue the pregnancy? what if the second pregnancy turns out to be positive too?

Well, I understand your concerns and it is very normal to feel that way. However, life is all about choices.... the onus lies on the couple to decide if they wish to proceed with the pregancy or not depending on the results. Like I said earlier, I have no idea how much it costs in Nigeria but my niece had hers done for free, she is based in UK.

Did you also notice I mentioned IVF? I also added ''Nigerian mentality ?( or I would say the general african mentality) does not exactly allow so much room for these procedures I have listed above but the western world is such that many people are open minded enough to embrace methods that will allow them spend the rest of their lives with people they love, it is all about choice''.

I am not in the best position to tell people to let go of their relationships because life is all about choice- after weighing the pros and cons. It took me years to find out that Sickle cell is not only limited to africans, even people from the carribean and parts of Asia have it, you will be suprised. I was too.

I was simply trying to explain things in the easiest way possible to the poster and I want to assume you found the info useful too.

I wish you the best and God bless.

Health / Re: Can A Man With AS Genotype Marry A Woman With AS Genotype? by ESULAALU: 1:21pm On Sep 23, 2013
Ok poster, let me help you out here.

For every pregnancy there is a 1 in 4 chance of the child being born with the sickle cell anaemia disease. This means in a lay man's terms that there is a possibility each time your wife gets pregnant that the child is a either a potential sickle cell carrier or NOT.

Now 1 in four means every time, there is a possibility with each pregancy and vice versa, you really cannot determine until that child is born.( Do you get the drift, am trying to make it easy to understand as much as possible).

On the other hand, science has made it possible to determine at an earlier stage (11-13 weeks /16-20 weeks) if a pregnancy will result in a child with sickle cell anemia. 11-13 weeks, the woman can have a test called CVS ( please note this is more painful than uncomfortable, many will say vice versa but I guess it all depends on individual pain threshold). You will need to read more about it
(sorry, but you need to read about it extensively to understand what it really is all about) 16-20 weeks, the woman can have an amniocentesis done and for this you will also have to read about it.

Both of these tests will usually determine if a child would be born with any genetic disease amongst many other things they test for( includes downs syndrome so they are both extensive tests and on the flip side you get to know the sex of your baby much earlier, yes! these tests will let you know if you are having a boy or a girl).

Now the question is, I dont know how much this will cost you especially if you are based in Nigeria or Africa but I know it is could be costly and I dont know how readily available these procedures are in Nigeria so you will have to do your findings on that.

I hope this kind of answers your questions a little. Dont forget 1 in 4 means you might be lucky to have no child born with sickle cell OR 1, 2, 3 kids born with sickle cell, because for each pregancy there is a 1 in four chance.

Alternatively, I have also heard that IVF could also come in handy in this situation( please you also need to read about it extensively, with IVF there is a higher chance of multiple pregancies so I guess thats a plus).

Above all , would not really not want to come acroos as too religious but you need to commit it all into God's hands, and seek medical advice too. Nigerian mentality does not exactly allow so much room for these procedures I have listed above but the western world is such that many people are open minded enough to embrace methods that will allow them spend the rest of their lives with people they love, it is all about choice.

Please poster, its important you read more about this and weigh your choices, just before you ask, I am not a doctor but I know someone who has had CVS ( not in Nigeria and that prompted me to do a lot of reading).

I wish you the very best for the future. Take care.

Family / Re: Abortion: Murder Or A Means Of Birth Control? by ESULAALU: 3:36pm On Sep 20, 2013
Its ok to argue back and forth about this but people with sickle cell,am sure will also be viewing this thread and I think its unfair to have them read stuffs like this. Its a different case if a foetus is found to have clear cut deformities but sickle cell is a condition that manifests based on triggers not before a child is born but after and many sickle cell carriers can live very well and can even have long periods without having a single crisis.

Now whether a mother or both parent choose to end a pregnancy because the tests have shown the baby is sickle cell positive is a different case entirely. Different things have different names/meanings and as such it might be convinient to class it as murder for a pro-lifer whilst other people might just commend them for doing the 'seemingly' right thing.

However, whatever arguments you choose to raise please be sensitive enough to understand that people living with sickle cell would also view this thread.

Thank you.

Yes, overseas its not uncommon to see others who are less qualified, promoted over you.

There are many reasons for that, none of which have anything to do with the age at which you started school or what you learned there.

Its one of the things that come with being a black african immigrant?

Madam, With all due respect you are ABSOLUTELY wrong with this one.

It has nothing to do with being a black african immigrant, I bet if that had anything to do in the grand scheme of things then people like chuka umunna should not even be able to hold sway in British politics irrespective of place of birth but simply on the onus of being a child of a black african immigrant.

I dont think its entirely right to saddle 2-4 year old kids with such 'enormous' learning. At that stage of their life they should be more into activities that would encourage them to express themselves and interact with each other.

At the end of the day, what is the point of amassing such knowledge that cannot be practically applied? Or how else do you think people end up cramming stuffs just for the purpose of exam but ask them about a course they spent 4-5 years studying and they are moping like a robot.

Once again madam TPia, I think you should consider the points raised here, everyone cannot be wrong and everyone cannot be right but I think its fair enough to say kids should be kids. They will be what they will be, some will be late bloomers, some early bloomers irrespective of what its important to respect their individuality and let them grow at their own pace.

Food / Re: How Can I Help My Wife To Be A Good Cook At Home? by ESULAALU: 5:04pm On Sep 01, 2013
Good ideas/suggestions people. However, do you know there are women who no matter how much they learn are just not blessed with culinary skills? In the case of this poster, it would even be more challenging cos he knows how to cook and has unconsciously set the bar which might be challenging for his wife to match because she is probably still learning or not good as good a cook as the poster is. She might find it a little intimidating when her hubby mentions it to her occasionally so please poster don't think she is being defensive or resistant to your advice. You need to sort this out somehow, no matter the advice anyone gives you, you live with you wife and would know how best to approach her to do your bidding. At the end of the day you would find out you do t need to spend a dime sending her to cookery school as you would both be in the kitchen together, you as the teacher and she has the learner. Please apply caution, i know food is important but am sure you didn't just marry her for food alone, extol her good qualities from time to time and point out areas you wish she would improve in and assure her of your support. Am sure she will understand. Love and patience is key, take care.

FOLYKAZE: I read one of this prof book titled 'Odu ifa meerindinlogun'. It really interesting....

With the way Ifa is spreading across brazil, cuba, haiti and even in America.....it a big pride to see my tradition and spiritualism travelling outside our continent. My African-american friends gave me a new phase and more interest in studying Ifa as a birthright. Bro im really enjoying it.

But wait what is this man doing in vatican? Are these not the people that destroyed our spiritualism and infected with religious dogma? Also these are the people that turn my Yoruba brothers to zombie and some into lost land of no return. I think this should yield a good result o.

Ifa compose of logic, reasoning, mathematics, psychology, science, cosmology, spiritualism and history. It embody knowledge of the world from ancient time. It explain in details big-bang, evolution and practical science. If every yoruba and African people can return to their origin, I think by this, we will free ourselves from world exploitation and oppression. It is a basic truth that the invaders had stolen knowledge from our fathers and built on it. It is truth that they have infected Ifa with religion dogma and demonized it. It is truth that they had brainwashed Africans completely but it is a grounding fact that ifa still contain esoteric knowledge, gridlocks and puzzles which these invaders doesn't hold or know and when ourselves dig it out, unlock the grid and construct the puzzle.....we will get there. We will rise above the world and completely free from every oppression.
