Is it worth switching my auto license to manual...Just attracted by the cheap cost of manuals vs auto
I assume you have your full licence going by your question. Kudos to you if you were able to pass the manual driving test. You can and are also allowed to drive an auto transmission, your licence covers both. So if your worry is about auto/manual vehicle costs and the related i'd say go for something you like, that won't give you sleepless nights. Your licence covers you irrespective of your transmission choice. Not same for people who hold an automatic licence as they will need to pass a manual driving test if they wish to drive manual vehicles. Now, don't ask my opinion about cars , am totally crap in that aspect, Lets just say I like it, I go for it and lots of experiences have come from those spontaneous decisions . All the best.

Good morning Guys,

I hope we are all enjoying the weather. Its getting to me already o so i'm dressed like a masquerade in the house. Trying to push it as far as i can before using the heater.

I passed my Driving Theory Test, all Thanks to God, although that Hazard Perception na border line tins. I used Theory 4in1 app, it did a good job and it took me about a week plus, although serious studying and good sticky memory should be able to achieve it in 3days.
Booked for the practical already and got a driving school, £25/hour. I told them i've got only 5 lessons to do, whichever way they wana do it, its up to them. Low and behold, it wasn't as bad as i thought, first lesson was good and i did't face one-way, lol.

Just to give you all a heads up.

Its been silent here though, where are you guys @fatima04, @lexusgs430, @wonlasewonimi, @iamconfused, @sutelk, @Inkredible, @DaveChapelle...

5 lessons

Seeing your level of determination, I really don't want you to waste your time so if you live close to the SE postcodes the EASIEST place to pass on first attempt is Hither Green.
Now, you have booked 5 lessons, it means you will need to take those lessons on the possible routes the examiner will ask you to drive on. The road signs are good to follow. The examiners often avoid going on the major routes in hither green in the morning because of rush hour which causes a build up of traffic especially approaching the roundabout there. Most stick to the 30mph inner roads.Occassionally, some examiners might insist venturing on the major roads but the routes are easy to travel on even with minimal practice, beware of bus lane/times(avoid completely if possible) and master traffic lights for your own routes- important!
However, that being said generally brush up on the following:
Practice your show me tell me questions, round about rules ( give way to the right always, no hesitation), always use your mirrors, all three and ensure examiner sees you doing it(especially when approaching junctions or exiting , you have to be on point with your MSM malarkey, mirror signal manoeuvre and all the associated neck twisting observations). Let youtube guide you as you do further personal practice. Practice your manoeuvre like parralel parking( align mirrors with car you intend to park behind or align with fuel tank if parking right in front of car, steer left- sight the v shape as it aligns with the kerb, pause, steer right and straighten up, this is one manoeuvre you will need quite often). Emergency stop, bay parking etc

Good luck and your comment brought me back to life in the travel section.
Justwise how you dey and vicjustice? Welldone o!

justwise:

Since she is retired you need to sponsor the whole trip, sending her VI, your bank statement ,payslip and evidence of accommodation, let her apply for family visiting visa

She said she holds a tier 1 visa and you are advising her to apply for a family visiting visa for her mum.

British citizen,ILR holders, people granted humanitarian protection are the only categories of people whose family can apply for a family visiting visa. All other categories even those who have been granted 30 months limited stay under the Appendix FM route,TIER 1,2 can only have their families apply via the general visitor route.

Thank you Monsieur and if in doubt see link below and read to the end.

Vicjustice:
My point is not about who can request or who can not request for administrative review (i never mentioned this aspect in my post), my grievance was not because she said her opinion in an attempt to counter a point that i didn't even mention in my comment, but rather the attitude was humiliating.
I have had some disagreements and even debating arguments with Justwise, and he too has had disagreements with several of my opinions, but never a time did either of us try to humiliate the other in an attempt to prove superiority: there are honourable ways to disagree with others (especially those who are considered by many as veterans) without embarrassing them with such humiliating response as quoted:

Indeed, i consider the below comment as rude, arrogant and provocative especially when i did not make such claim...

Now let's set the record straight. Bolded number 1, even a registered oisc immigration advisor would never refer to themselves that way. You have offered useful advice to people, keep it that way. Let people do the praises, which of course happens ever so often, don't start blowing your own trumpet please except of course you work directly with the British embassy or home office, only then can you confidently call yourself a veteran although I would have imagined expert or professional would be better suited to describe yourself in such situation.

Bolded 2, what is rude or provocative in someone pointing out something that appears not to be right? No one knows it all absolutely no exclusion. Except of course you are intimidated or hate to be told the truth then I see no point in how this should become an issue and then being the "veteran" you are you aptly blocked all comments that seemed unfavourable to you. Absolutely uncalled for. You being a mod does not translate to knowing it all, there are tons of people who have well proven experience but will never share here cos the unspoken norm is that anything that doesn't come from the mod should be disregarded and challenged.

Am not surprised but be rest assured that no one is in a competition with you. You own the travel section, long live your eternal reign I wish you well and I hope to come back and meet my comment.

Did I forget to mention that your comment clearly indicated the possibility of an administrative review? It was clearly written in English.

Well then , enjoy yourself and have a good night.

Well done people. I have been reading and learning so much. The Lord is good. Please kindly tell me what this means. To dream that one is being told that someone had died but in that same dream and with so much anger, pain and emotion the dreamer then calls out and touches the person who was said to be dead on the bed and the person just woke up like as if from sleep.

That was the end of the dream. Thanks in advance.

nickson03: i want to correct that statement of winning appeal is not a guarantee of issuing a visa. if winning an appeal in court is not a gaurantee there would have been no need of appealing eco wrong decision in court. the Eco or ECM does not have the power to hold court decision if they refuse to appeal the judge decision for allowing your allow. if they did not appeal to the upper tie tribunal they have no choice to issue the visa even the home secretary has power to up hold court decision. especially when they visa is family visiting visa wife visiting her husband and son who are british or husband visiting his wife the eco or ecm does not have such to up hold the visa if they fail to appeal the court decision and they cannot ask for wife or husband to summit document for revaluation when the visa is family visiting visa. eco can ask for revalaution document if the visiting visa is for tourist purpose but not as family visa that is been sponsor by her british husband or wife. to make my finally correction of your statement for the avoidance of doubt i have called the court where my wife appeal was allowed to ask if the winning of appeal is gaurantee of visa. i have been told by the court that if the judge allowed your appeal is a gaurantee of visa will be issue to my wife if they fail to appeal the decision. i have also spoken to the home office they also said that winning an appeal is a gaurantee that visa will be issue to my wife if they did not appeal the decision but in case the home office has refuse to appeal the judge decision and they will called my wife to come and collect her visa and that i should allow 12week from the date of the appeal being allow.
this means that winning appeal is a gaurantee of visa if the home office refuse to appeal the judge decision.

When you recieved your determination of appeal , at the end did the judge indicate that the application be remitted back to the home office for reconsideration? If no the please wait for 14 days( the home office have a period of 14 days to contest the appeal being granted but note that these days they usually contest even after the 14 days lapse so just pray they don't ) after the 14 days then call the FTT just to confirm the home office hasn't contested the decision. If they haven't then please follow up with the home office and they issue your visa. I suggested following up cos they are not usually quick with stuffs like that sometimes.

The only time they will ask you for further documentation is if the judge has remitted the application back to the home office for reconsideration perhaps due to error of law.

I hope that helps!

Why did you not just tell them the truth and request to have the interview rescheduled? Simple things like a family committment which had come up at such short notice and requiring urgent attention would have sufficed.

I see no point in asking anyone to post anything here except of course you intend to present it as your medical report, which I trust you will nowt as you are honest and God fearing. I doubt if any doctor in a federal government hospital will want to provide you with such either as the company could chose to verify it and then you can imagine what that will lead to.

I hope you are able to sort yourself out some how. All the best.

Health / Re: Side Effect Of X-ray On Toddlers. by ESULAALU: 11:53pm On Nov 18, 2013
I can imagine your concerns but I would not imagine x-rays have an adverse effects on a child's organs. Remember it's just an imaging device and the doctor probably wanted to be sure the child's chest was not blocked as that could be potentially dangerous.

Children as young as 2 have transcranial doppler scans without any side effects. Don't freak out just yet,its just a brain scan for children (to assess blood flow to the brain) with underlying medical condition and risk of stroke.
Now that was just an example of the many scans/x-rays a child could have, painless and with no side effects.

However, the doctor would have probably used his stethoscope to listen to the child 's chest(usually listened to from the front and back) and probably suggested the xray as an additional precaution probably because your little one was crying or wasn't still enough to allow him get an accurate listen with his stethoscope. Don't worry about him being angry, he is only doing his job, better to be safe than sorry you know.

Hmmmm.....I would suggest you see your doctor asap.
Based on my own personal experience I am almost tempted to think it might be the yoyo bitter that has caused this ''imbalance'' in your system but please see your doctor asap.

In my own personal experience, I took yoyo bitters and ended up stooling so much,I started passing out blood as stool and passed out in the toilet. Thank goodness there were people in the house who rushed me to the nearest hospital. I did not overdose, I simply used the recommended dosage on the pack. Our bodies are different so some people might take it and feel normal whilst it might have not so good effects on others.

In conclusion, please see your doctor asap abeg. Take care and do let us know how it goes.

Health / Re: Help!!! I Have Been Sick Since I Quit Smoking. by ESULAALU: 8:55pm On Nov 10, 2013
I would suggest you get a nicotine patch and then try electronic cigarettes
You seem to be experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. The next time you feel the very strong urge to smoke, get an electronic cigarette, yes I know you are trying to quit but you need to wean yourself off it slowly. Rather than take the real thing, take the electronic one, it does bring out smoke as well. So if you used to take like 6 sticks for instance every day, limit it to 3 and use the e-cigarette instead. The following day you can use the nicotine gum or patch. Gradually you will get off it. Slow and steady does it.

You will find that these substitutes will not usually give you the satisfaction you will usually get from lighting a stick but that is where self control comes in, you know what you are after so you need to stick to the regimen, it's like a woman looking to drop a few dress sizes, you substitute something for something, it might not satisfy your craving but the end result is what really matters.
Good luck and all the best.

onyichick: i hate it wen d instrumentals in dis new generation chuches will be sooo loud n even overshadowing singing of d choir.somtimes ur chest go jst d vibrate n u end of having chest pain.

I just rolled off my bed in laughter. This is too funny . I remember visiting a church and a guest pastor was ministering. The church is one of the branches of a popular pentecostal church. All I was able to make out of the preaching was that this guest minister had been to Las Vegas and as part of sight seeing went to a casino met a rich man who spent so much money gambling. I thought it would end there. The next thing he just linked the casino incident to the church, saying people squander their money on materialistic things whilst they abandon the work of God and his house. Within the twinkle of an eye. Ushers were instructed to give out envelopes yo everyone in church and each person should make a pledge to God which can either be paid immediately or within one week unfailingly. Thinking it would stop there, he then asked everyone to line up and bring their pledges forward so he can bless their hands and they can drop their pledges. As each person walked up to him, he would ask "how much are you pledging?" if you mention like for instance from 20k upwards he would repeat it loudly so everyone knew what Mr A or B had pledged, however I noticed that for some people when he asks and they tell him. He would just say "Hmmmm " and I began to wonder. Why say some out loud and hmm at the others? Then it dawned on me that only the big spenders were accorded the special recognition whilst the others got hmmmmm.

I noticed the host pastor was quite uncomfortable for the duration of the "great expedition" and I later learnt from my acquaintance who invited me that for a veryyyyyyyyyyy long time after that incident no guest minister was invited.

@ESULAALU, please I forgot to add, let's assume he goes to the consulate(no harm in trying), will he need to fill up a new form, or just go since he's appealing their decision, hes still under the 28 days appeal right period. Please your response will be highly appreciated, thankyou once small.

To be honest, this is something I wouldn't be able to answer and I sincerely apologise but it only because I have no clue. His appearance at the consulate would be regarded as something informal as he would not be following the standard procedure by simply turning up bearing in mind he does have the limited right of appeal and exercising the appeal right would have been the standard procedure(hope you get my drift). I would perhaps see what funkybaby or just wise have to say in this case. Sincere apologies once more.

@ESULAALU, thanks a lot,for your contribution,I appreciate it so much....yes like u said,if he eventually turn up at the consulate unannounced, that its going to be a 50-50 success(I strongly agree with that)

Now concerning my own appeal here in the UK,yes part of my refusal was a general copy and paste decision. However I am the sole carer living with my brother with severe learning disability (a British citizen) one of the secretary of states decision in my refusal stated he (my brother) could be taken care of by the social services here in the UK ( well we all know you cannot take a person's right of choosing who he wants to care for him)

We have already sought for a legal representative all in preparation for Jan 3rd 2014, we also have loads of documents ie. Medical records, disability assessment, witness statements etc.God willing, everything will go well.....and just like you said I can now apply for my husband as a dependant on me to save us all this trauma. The reason why he didn't exercise his full right of appeal here, was based on the fact that both my refusal and his came in almost the same time, considering the financial involvement ie. getting a lawyer for both cases, we had to come to a decision that we face my own first while he returns to Nigeria pending when things pick up. Well by Gods grace it will all come and go. thanks a lot,God bless

I can imagine how it must have felt getting refusals at the same time. I know there are quite a couple of pro bono lawyers who would have been able to assist and that would have saved you the stress of worrying about money at least for some time. Good thing you are on a good path already and I wish you the very best by God's grace. I don't know if it would be possible but if it is your brother's contribution perhaps in writing or even appearing in court would have a massive impact as well. Even they know social services would not be able to provide round the clock care a constantly present family member would be able to offer so don't mind them. God be with you and all the best.

Yea justwise,we know, are u saying it wouldnt be worth trying....he went to the consulate some years ago, when he lost his uncle based here in the Uk,he was granted audience and was interviewed, after all said and done he got his visa given that same day (like I said we are just thinking hard,as he cannot afford to miss our sons 1st birthday, already he has missed his growing up,he had every course to stay back with us while in the UK,but decided he goes and explore the IT sector in Nigeria since his own application was refused(maybe he would have remained) #sad#.

Hi Babyscot, if you dont mind me suggesting something. Whilst it would be worth a try for your husband to show up unannounced to at least explain the situation on ground, I would also advice you to see the possibility of it turning out to be a success as 50-50.

Reason is because his entrepreneur visa was refused and now trying to apply for re-entry or visiting visa as the case might be might and will of course raise eyebrows, the belief will be that he will not return back to Nigeria which is obviously very understandable because he does have family(a wife and child) in the UK already. I am very suprised he did not exercise his appeal rights when his entrepreneur visa was refused(except of course he wasnt given right of appeal which I want to assume you know the clause that applies to rights of appeals and no right of appeals).

On the other hand you would have realised that the first 3 or so paragraphs of your own application which you submitted,I want to assume you submitted the flr(o) would have been quite similar to those that have been refused because most family cases refused now have the basic cut and paste refusal reasons ( ''you have not spent X number of years in the UK, you have not lost ties with your home country, EX1, FM appendix or whatever it is called etc and they would have said you are not eligible and do not meet the criteria. Then would have summarised the main reason for your refusal in just a flimsy paragraph).

I would suggest you to please ensure you get a legal representative, dont make the mistake of trying to represent your self at the FTT. Am sure you have done your spade work on legal representation, you need to get someone who can argue and present your case well due to the nature of your case. Get as many evidences as possible, witness statements from friends and family, church, colleagues etc. The HO representative will either not show up or show up with the aim of running you up the wall, be calm and articulate. I wish you the best with that, now the point I have been trying to drive out so far is work hard and pray hard towards winning your appeal. When that is done and you have been granted, your husband can simply switch to dependant status which will in turn save you a bucketload of stress.

Take care
