@titiloyeblog.com Candidates of the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination(UTME) have decried technical challenges faced in accessing by telephone, the just-released results. And the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, which conducted the examination, admitted the problem but said it was working in collaboration with telephone service providers to resolve the glitches. JAMB on Saturday directed the candidates to use the same telephone numbers used in registering for the examination to access their results by sending ‘RESULT’ to the code, ‘55019’ Mrs. Bridget Otuagha, a parent, expressed worries at the challenge her son was facing to get his result. According to her, ever since the result was announced, her son had tried without success to check his result as directed by the board. “I am sick with worry about this whole thing. My son has been trying to get his result since Saturday to no avail. “He has been sending this ‘RESULT’ to the said code up until this morning, and there has been no response to that effect. “This is getting not just him, but the entire family worried. JAMB should please see if there is another way to this situation,’’ Otuagha told NAN. Mrs. Florence Ibem, another concerned parent, also told NAN that her son was equally having the same issue, checking his score for the same examination. “Since they released the result, we have not been able to access his score through the telephone number we used in acquiring the registration pin. “After sending RESULT to the said code severally, we only waited to see that no response whatsoever will follow. This is disturbing and frustrating. “Something should be done and urgently too. Even if it is withheld or canceled, I think we deserve to know,’’ Ibem said. When contacted, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board’s Head, Media and Information, apologized to the affected persons on behalf of the board. According to him, the challenge is from the service providers. Benjamin said that the board had received complaints concerning the development and summoned the service providers for a meeting on the issue. “We have just had a meeting with the service providers and they have assured that they are working hard to get the issue addressed and that in no distant time, candidates should be able to access their results without hitch. “We are just trying to ensure that all the candidates deserving of results should have firsthand information of their performance via their telephones. “It is after that, that we will go ahead and post it to our website for candidates to go ahead and print. “We are just trying to safeguard these results from the activities of fraudsters. “We want candidates to know their scores first so that on getting to print them out at the business centers, there would not be anything funny on their slips,’’ the JAMB spokesman explained. NAN reports that of the over 1.8 million candidates that registered for the examination, a total of 1,792,719 of them had their results released by the board. A total of 49, 265 results were withheld for examination malpractice. Out of the number, 15, 145 results are undergoing further clarification as in the case of identical twins and siblings. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/utme-results-inaccessible-candidates.html

@titiloyeblog.com Yesterday, a Ghanaian Pastor, Victor Eghan stated why he thinks Christians who watch Game of Thrones will go to Hell. According to him, 'If you're so attached to Game of Thrones that you're getting angry with me, then who are you worshipping? GOD or GOT? One letter makes a big difference. And that one letter change can make a big difference when you stand before GOD on that day'. Now, Daddy Freeze has responded to him saying, 'It is absolutely unscholarly and downright hypocritical to tell people to stop watching Game of Thrones without telling them to also stop reading the Bible because there is hardly any difference between the storylines of both'. @titiloyeblog.com Facebook sues?South Korean firm for unlawfully using its data Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook is suing a South Korean firm it accuses of unlawfully using data to sell marketing and advertising. Facebook is asking a judge to force the firm, 'Rankwave', to allow it to audit the firm’s activities to see if user data was obtained and potentially sold saying the move would "send a message to developers that Facebook is serious about enforcing our policies. Facebook was investigating Rankwave’s data practices in relation to its advertising and marketing services," said Jessica Romero, Facebook's director of platform enforcement. "Rankwave failed to co-operate with our efforts to verify their compliance with our policies, which we require of all developers using our platform." According to court documents filed in California on Friday, Facebook is accusing Rankwave of using at least 30 different apps to "track and analyse" comments and likes on Facebook pages. Rankwave also had a consumer app that, after gaining the user's consent, would track the popularity of that user's posts. The app would calculate a "social influence score", Facebook said. However, the social network said it had information that since 2014, Rankwave had been using data gathered by its apps "for its own business purposes, which include providing consulting services to advertisers and marketing companies". source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/facebook-sues-south-korean-firm-for.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan zonal office, has secured the conviction of two persons earlier arrested for internet fraud. The duo of Maiku Abdulakeem and Yomi Samson were convicted and sentenced to different jail terms on Tuesday, by judges of the Federal High Court, Ibadan Division. Abdulakeem bagged three months jail after Justice P. I Ajoku declared him guilty of a one-count amended charge of criminal impersonation preferred against him by the EFCC. The convict, through his lawyer, had earlier approached the Commission for a plea bargain agreement on terms that he would plead guilty to the charge and be sentenced to three months in prison. The terms also included the condition that Abdulakeem returns to his victim the sum of $200 (Two Hundred United States of American Dollars) and also forfeit his Techno phone to the Federal Government of Nigeria. After pleading guilty to the amended charge, prosecution counsel, Mabas Mabur, urged the court to convict Abdulakeem accordingly. The commission’s prayer was granted as the court jailed Abdulakeem, declaring that the sentencing takes effect from March 8, 2019, when he was initially arrested by the commission. In addition to the restituted sum, which he was said to have done through the federal government; the convict will also forfeit to the government his Techno phone, being proceeds of his fraudulent act. Samson was not as lucky as Justice Joyce Malik slammed him with eight months imprisonment. He was also found guilty of criminal impersonation, the one-count amended charge for which he was arraigned after sealing a plea bargain agreement with the commission. The amended charge stated that “Samson (a.k.a Becky Wellington, a.k.a Amanda Lucero) ‘sometime in 2019 in Ibadan, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, fraudulently impersonated by representing yourself to be Beck Wellington, via Facebook Account to one Chris and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 22 (2) and punishable under section 22(2)(b)(iv) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act,2015.” The court also ordered that he restitutes a sum of N48, 000 (Forty-Eight Thousand Naira Only), being benefit he derived from his fraudulent act and forfeit his Tecno Spark handset to the Federal government of Nigeria. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/two-internet-fraudsters-jailed-in-ibadan.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com An Ikeja high court on Tuesday sentenced a 36-year-old woman, Stella Gilbert, to death for stabbing her neighbor, Mrs. Stella Godwin, to death during a fight at their residence in Ajegunle, Lagos. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fight was over a bench in the premises of their single room apartments also known as ‘face’me-I-face you’. The fight was caused by an argument over who should be using the bench belonging to their former neighbor. Justice Raliatu Adebiyi sentenced Gilbert after dismissing her claim of self-defense. The judge held that the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. “The defendant, in this case, used a knife on the deceased; by any standard, a knife is a lethal weapon. “The evidence of PW2 (Prosecution Witness 2), the cousin of PW1 (the deceased’s husband), and that of PW3, the female police officer, was that the deceased was stabbed on the chest. “The coroner’s report tendered in evidence by PW4 confirmed that the deceased was stabbed on the chest. “The chest is where the heart is; the defendant, by stabbing the deceased on the chest, a very fragile part of the body, clearly intended to cause the most harm to her. “The death of the deceased occurred as a result of a grievous injury caused by the defendant. The defendant is culpable of the offense of murder,” she said. The judge remarked that a lot of cases in courts were caused by animosity and violence due to individuals living in close proximity in the metropolis. She said that the situation called for improvement in social housing in Lagos State. She said: “From the evidence, the fight took place in a room; though no evidence was given about the size of the room, it could not have been a very large room. “The evidence was that the deceased and the defendant lived in a house consisting of rooms occupied by families popularly called ‘face-me-I-face-you’. “It is worrisome that the level of violence, unnecessary animosity and death, which occur among our citizens as a result of living together in close proximity without sufficient personal space and boundaries, remain unabated. “There is clearly a need to improve social housing and living conditions. “The court hopes that this message will be conveyed to the necessary authorities through prosecutors who have the responsibility to prosecute these cases and should be able to provide vital statistics,” she urged. Following the conviction of the Gilbert, her counsel, Mr Y. E. Yusuf prayed the court to temper justice with mercy. “The defendant has been in detention for six years; during that time, she lost both parents and her brother. She is in her late 30s and unmarried, she has gone through a lot. “She was not harboring the intent to murder when the incident occurred. “I want my lord to temper justice with mercy and refrain from giving the defendant the maximum sentence,” Yusuf urged. However, the judge passed a death sentence on Gilbert. “The defendant, Stella Gilbert, is hereby sentenced to death. May God that grants life have mercy on your soul,” she said. On hearing the sentence, Gilbert collapsed on the dock. Wailing loudly, she said, “Please ma, temper justice with mercy, why me oh, only me…” In her tears, she was led out of the courtroom and had to be carried by a mobile policeman and a prison warden out of the court complex to avoid disruption of proceedings in other courtrooms due to the commotion. NAN reports that during the trial, four witnesses – the husband of the deceased, the brother-in-law of the deceased, the investigating police officer and the coroner – testified for the prosecution. The defendant testified alone in her defense. According to the state counsel, Mrs. O. R. Ahmed-Muili, the convict murdered Godwin, mother of three, on June 22, 2013, at No. 59, Ojora St., Ajegunle, Lagos. The convict stabbed the deceased on the chest and arm with a knife during a fight. NAN reports that murder contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011 and is punishable with death by hanging. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/woman-sentenced-to-death-for-killing.html

@titiloyeblog.com A former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has said he will emerge as the Senate President of the Ninth National Assembly. The senator said this in an interview with journalists in Lagos on Monday. He said he was confident because he had the support of his colleagues in the Senate and the leaders of the All Progressives Congress. Ndume said he was not in the race to bargain for a juicy position, saying he had done his homework. He stated that no party leader had asked him to withdraw for anyone, adding that the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, had explained that the party only recommended Senator Ahmad Lawan as the preferred choice and had not imposed him on the senators. He said, “We have 109 senators and each of them have one vote. If you are contesting to be the Senate President, you have to reach out. But in the beginning, I was cautious because I am a party man. So, when the party said ‘don’t go there,’ I did not. “But the party came out again and said, ‘You can reach out to them now,’ so I reached out to them. “So far, the response I am getting from my colleagues from the APC and other parties is very encouraging. I am in this race to win; I am talking to everybody. I have the telephone numbers of all the 109 senators-elect and I call them. “I have written the party, indicating my intention to contest. Even my national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, publicly said they only recommended Lawan and not that they are stopping anybody. “As I speak with you, nobody has consulted me to say ‘don’t run for Senate President’. Everybody has the constitutional right to do that.” Ndume, who represents Borno South in the Senate, promised to improve upon the performance of the Eighth Senate. He promised to make the Office of the Senate President less attractive by reducing the unnecessary privileges attached to the office. While promising to uphold the independence of the legislative arm of government, the third- time Senator promised to “work harmoniously and inter-dependently with the executive without undermining the principle of separation of power.” The lawmaker said the North-East deserved an articulate representative as Senate President, adding that the region had suffered huge devastation with property worth over N2tn destroyed by insurgents. Ndume, who said if, given the opportunity, he would not compromise the independence of the legislature, adding that his chances of becoming the next Senate President were bright. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/ill-be-next-senate-president-ndume.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com A father killed his newborn son in anger after losing a video game, police have said. Anthony Trice, 26, was at his home in Louisville, Kentucky, playing a video game on Friday. He lost the game and flew into a rage then threw the controller before punching his son named De’Anthony Trice. The blow seriously injured the child then Trice picked him up and took him to the kitchen to prepare the child's milk. He is said to have dropped the newborn onto the floor, before picking him up again. It is unclear whether Trice dropped his son deliberately, or by accident. WLKY said that afterward, Trice took the boy into a bedroom and propped him up in a seated position. He went to the bathroom, returned to find the little boy was in distress and dialed 911, it is alleged. The child was rushed to Norton Children’s Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky, where he died on Sunday, May 5, 2019. The chid's grandma Tonija Michelle showed De’Anthony hooked up to a ventilator before he passed away. Trice was initially charged with first-degree child abuse, with those charges upgraded to first-degree murder after the baby died. Martha Amadi is a fresh graduate of Communication Studies from the University of Benin, Nigeria. She wants to be a Radio Presenter in an International Media Outfit. However, she has heard rumors of machines taking over people's jobs in developed nations and she is concerned that in a few years time, this development will get to her doorstep. In a chat with me, she shared her fears for the future which she summed up in the questions, "Is it really possible that in a few years time, my job may be taken over by these machines?", "How do I prepare for this sort of eventuality?" Welcome to the future of work and the questions weighing heavily on the minds of many, especially students and fresh graduates. The advent of automation technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics has seen the world of work gradually undergoing a major process of change. The major concern for many is "how will this development impact jobs, skills, and wages? When we sought the opinion of a Human Resources Personnel and staff of one of the major commercial banks in Nigeria, Blessing Adejo, she had this to say, "Irrespective of how it plays out, the future of work should remain one that provides security, equality, and prosperity for all. She adds, "Employers must improve career opportunities for today and tomorrow’s workforce while employees must upgrade their skills so they do not become redundant in the workplace". Her position was corroborated by Career Coach, Anita Onakoya who puts it this way, "It might take us (Nigeria) some time to catch up, but there's no gainsaying the fact that machines are here to stay what with AI, Blockchain, Robotics, and Internet of Things (IoT). "However, it cannot take over human responsibilities totally. In order for us to be in the game and stay ahead, certain soft skills such as Emotional Intelligence, Empathy, Communication, Reasoning, Interpersonal Skills, and Adaptability must be imbibed and inculcated". In his opinion, Tech Expert, Solomon Osho believes that it is inevitable for machines and robots to take over the workplace in the near future. He based this on the premise that technology is more beneficial to the workplace as it makes processes and systems faster, more accurate and more reliable than the human intellect has the capacity for. For Tunji Ishola, an undergraduate of the University of Lagos who is an avid soccer fan, he is just confident that machines will never take the place of humans on the football pitch. He insists that machines or robots playing or controlling the round leather game will ruin its enjoyment for fans of the game. Ishola, however, admits that other aspects of the sport that are non-player involved like ticketing, refereeing, and security, could use the help of machines or robots for a smoother operation. With all the information emanating from the various experts, the consensus is that there is a need to prepare for the onslaught of machines in the workplace. Students and Fresh graduates who are not prepared for this future may find themselves out of a job before they ever started one. This is the reality of the day and age we live in and everyone must brace up for it. @titiloyeblog.com The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has warned single ladies to avoid marrying jobless men. Jobless men, he said, have the tendencies to use, dump and abandon such ladies. Adeboye spoke on Sunday at the May Special Prayer and Thanksgiving service by the RCCG Throne of Grace, National Headquarters Ebute Metta, Lagos. According to him, a woman should not marry a man that has no work “if not you will be the work.” He noted it is not sinful for a single lady to politely ask any man proposing marriage whether or not he has a job. Stating that women are conceived as helpmeets, Adeboye argued only somebody who has a job can be helped. Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant General Overseer, (RCCG) Personnel and Administration Pastor Johnson Odesola, said the man is key and the woman has only come to help. “Whatever the woman does is a help. The man is a major director in the house,” he stressed. He stated taking care of the homes does not rest on the woman alone but the man and the woman who has come to help. Adeboye blamed lack of proper home training for most of the ills in society. “I still remember when I was young. My father will tell me that this name is the name of my father. Don’t spoil the name. So I was scared to do wrong. I could not shake the hand of a lady until I was 23. “Learning for any child should start from the home and parents should be their child first teachers. “The wife and the husband are the main teachers who will teach and model godly character to their children,” he stated. In his sermon, Adeboye, urged all Christians to strengthen their faith, saying there would always be a storm in the lives of the believers. Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Otunba Gani Adams, who was at the service argued religion, is never the problem of Nigeria. According to him: “It is sad many people believe religion is Nigeria’s problem, but in truth, leadership, not religion is Nigeria’s problem. “For instance, I am a Muslim by birth. I grew up from a Christian background and as the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and culture activist, I also believe in our traditional religion.” source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/adeboye-to-single-ladies-dont-marry.html

@titiloyeblog.com Nigerian youths took to Twitter and other social media platform to renew the #ENDSARS# campaign due to the death of a single father Kolapo Johnson 36, who was allegedly shot dead by one of the officers of the Lagos State division of the Anti-cultism squad on Sunday, March 31, 2019. According to an eyewitness at the scene of the incident which happened around 5:05 pm at no 1 Beco Street Ontipetesi, Mangoro Bus stop, the victim a football fan was said to be at the viewing center with friends when members of the squad stormed the area to arrest a man because of his dreadlocks. The victim was said to be shot at the back by an officer who was trying to disperse a crowd gathered at the scene of the incident. Members of the squad were said to flee from the scene immediately the incident happened which lead to a protest by a group of boys in the area causing major roadblocks and gridlocks in the area. Aggrieved youths lent their voices to Twitter to condemn the act, asking for justice from the government and also an end the operations of the Special Anti Robbery Squad [SARS] which they also accuse of bribery and harassment. In a statement sent to the punch newspaper a youth Namtira Bwala, 26 said “we as a people cannot continue being scared of the people that are supposed to be our protectors. We are tired of protesting and marching to no end. We need adequate police reforms and SARS needs to go”. A group Amnesty International said “our research since 2016 uncovered a pattern of a ruthless human rights violation by SARS, whereby victims are arrested and brutally tortured until they either make a confession to pay officers a bribe to be released. SARS is a police unit created to protect the people, instead, it has become a danger to the society, turning its victims with complete impunity while fomenting a climate of fear and corruption” Segun Awosanya in a statement signed by a group of youths said “our lives-the lives of all citizens matter and we must continue to demand that the men and women of the police force respect the sanctity of life and the lives of all Nigerians. In light of the foregoing, we restate that all ad hic squads within the police force by scrapped and their responsibilities transferred to discernible structures within police force”. Speaking to a youth Sunday Adesanya he said “to say the government should put an end to SARS is saying the government should put an end to their fight against robbers” He added that the #ENDSARS# campaign is an exercise in futility and that the youth should rather campaign for the complete reform of the unit rather than the end of the unit. “What we need to campaign about is for a complete overhaul of the SARS with properly stipulated guidelines of actions and sanctions for renegade officers and undisciplined ones. The motive behind the creation of the unit is pure to combat incessant robberies and to a certain point it has reduced robberies but unfortunately, the tables have been turned as SARS officers are now out to hunt internet fraudsters, wrongly dressed youths, wealthy young youths, and youths with tattoos” he said. Femi Ekisanya 22 said “SARS should definitely be ended due to the fact that they just harass people unnecessarily, they don’t want youth to drive exotic cars. They should rather face what they are created for instead of looking for innocent youths to harass and take bribe from”. Taofeek Akanji 26, said “we all are clamoring for #ENDSARS# but we all know the truth which is that we need SARS to be reformed and not ended. The only issue I have with SARS is harassment and brutal killing of innocent citizens”. It will be recalled that the campaign #ENDSARS# first broke out on twitter in 2017 and was the trending topic for weeks on all social platforms but the intervention of the then Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo who ordered for the dismantling of the unit and its reform which he said should be intelligence driven and restricted to the prevention and detection of armed robbery and kidnapping quieted the campaign in 2017. In recent development, the spokesman to the commissioner of police in Lagos State, CP Zubairu Nuazu said the officers that were involved in the death of the Kolapo Johnson has been arrested and that the commissioner of police promised to initiate far-reaching reforms to help repositioning the Anti-Cultism squad for effective service delivery, particularly in areas of respect for human rights and proficiency in the use of firearms. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/nigerian-youths-clamors-for-endsars-on.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, Obinnau, Divepen1

@titiloyeblog.com Some 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) candidates have appealed to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to release their results. The candidates spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Bwari. The 2019 UTME commenced on April 11 to April 18 with 1.8 million registered candidates. The board has repeatedly said that it would take its time to screen the results because of the several infractions discovered during the exercise. Madueke John, a candidate said that the long wait for the results has held some of the candidates back, while also causing a lot of tension. “With everything we are hearing from JAMB and other media reports we are getting, we are tensed. “I know I did not do anything that will incriminate me during the exams but the entire process this time around has really changed. “If JAMB, while screening, discovers those who are innocent, why don’t they release those ones and continue screening others, seriously, this is taking forever. “I really don’t know what to expect again, but please, they should just focus on this year’s exercise and release at least parts of the results to reduce the tension.” Another candidate, Henrietta Adams said that the board is undoubtedly doing what it deemed best for the country. She, however, added that it would also do a lot of good if some of the results are released. Adam added that the long wait has caused some of the candidates to be unsure of what may happen at the end of the day. She said: “Even if you are sure you did not commit any malpractice during the exercise, with the way the entire process is going, one is forced to start thinking if one’s result will be held for mere turning his or her head during the examination. “I truly don’t know what to say or expect again, I am just confused if at least some results were released in parts like last year, then at least, one will be hopeful but as it is, only God knows what they may come up with next. “We will continue to wait but please JAMB, do something soonest.” Mr. Joseph Onimisi, a candidate’s parent, commended the board for exposing some of the corruption in the system but advised that parts of the results be released too. This, he said would reduce the criticism of the board by those skeptical of the intention of the board, adding that the entire process may take longer than the board expected. The board had continued to assure that it would release the results of the 2019 UTME as soon as it was done screening the entire results, to cut out those who were involved in one malpractice or the other during the exercise.
