EducationRe: University Of Ibadan Lecturer Calls Security On A Student For Using A Skateboard by etrange: 6:57pm On Oct 12, 2022

Skating is a kind of sport. But it should be used on pedestrian walkway and not vehicular way. I believe the lecturer is knowledgeable and won't act ignorantly. Normally, youths can be adventurous at times.
So you're sure she was skating on the motorway? It's funny that the same person advising others to learn to ask questions is using the expression "I'm sure" just to blame the student. Dude, she skating on the motorway is only a probability regardless of how high you think that is. There's nothing in the video that could make you sure of that, certainly not the assumed knowledge of the lecturer.

1. Complicit has no bearing of being hardworking - I already admitted that questioning her presumed hard work was an extension of my beef with IE, which she runs.
2. Being hard-working, which seems to mean so much to you, is not always a virtue - it can be positive or negative. That accountant that stole N90b in Abuja was hardworking. Very hardworking.
3. Being "hardworking" is not a given because you're in a high office - you can get simply placed there because your father or godfather owns the majority shares in the company.
4. Point 3 having been made, I'm in no position to say whether Soetan is hardworking or not. I merely questioned it as per point 3 and because of my beef with IE.

I know you still won't get it though. OK, Madam Soetan is hardworking. You can sleep well tonight.
You are blabbing at this point. I never said she was a good or a bad person. I only said she was hardworking. I gave you a brief history of her academic/professional background. Even those placed by thier fathers in good schools and good work places still need to work hard to hold it together especially in public offices. Complicit or not, hardwork has nothing to do with morality. You can question her morality all you want, the fact is that you quickly quoting me to challenge her hardwork because, according to you, she's complicit is a goof especially for someone that claims to have excellent understanding skills. You goofed, all this to and fro is you being too proud to accept that. Nawa o

Rubyjade:
Thank you for your prompt response. It's the IT department
OK. I appreciate the fact that you're very skeptical about sharing relevant details so I'd work with the little details I have.

Similarities:
They're both IT roles, they both in Lagos. They're both on the Mainland. They're both very good companies from the way you describe them.

Work culture:
One is multinational, one is local. The multinational wins simply became of the associated exposure and the assumption that multinational firms have healthier work culture. SOP's are more standard. Processes are clearer/well spelled out. The experience will help if you decide to move out of the country later.

Job role/org hierarchy:
One is in a tech firm while the other is the IT department of non tech firm. The tech firm wins not just because it is a tech firm, but because it fits more into your career especially if you plan to diversify your skills in future. The IT guys in non tech firms have some advantages in the sense that one person does a lot of things and thereby getting rounded knowledge. However, there's usually a limit to where they can get to in the org. hierarchy because tech is not the primary service of the firm. You hardly see an IT director in a non tech firm. Instead the IT manager would be reporting to the Finance director or something like that. Meanwhile, those IT guys in tech firms are usually specialists, but they do go deep in thier areas of specialization. Besides, they could get as high as directors for obvious reasons. The stress levels are comparable.

Pay:
You didn't say who pays more, but normally, many non tech firms would pay you more at the beginning. Thier income isn't directly tied to your activity. If the sales are good, they could pay more even if your job tasks haven't changed (this may not be the case for you seeing that your own tech firm is also huge/international). However, in the long run, working in the international tech firm would pay more. First reason is that they go higher up the ladder. Second reason is they they could easily join the non tech firms and get heavily paid as specialists (easier than joining tech from non tech on the basis of the fact that tech firm culture/methodologies take time to acquire). Third reason is that the firm is international. So even if you move abroad, it'd still be a good name on your CV and this would help your bargaining. Finally, specialists are rare and highly sought after.

Conclusion:
I think I'd go with the international tech firm. I'm not a seer, but I'm speaking with the experience of someone who's been in IT for a decade and who has worked in many organizations in multiple countries/continents.

Good luck!

I cannot disclose the name of company, hence the reason I gave a bit of information. However, company A& B comes with Travel allowance, HMO, Pension, Group life insurance, performance bonus, NHS & thirteen month.

It's good to know what these companies have in common, but we need to know thier peculiarities. What position they're offering and how that position fits into the organizational hierarchy as well which one pays better all come together to help you decide which one to go for and what can be sacrificed.

We can't because we are always fond of calling out others. We like to point fingers instead of taking responsibility.

The question people are not asking is that was she skating on pedestrian walkway or on vehicular way? I am sure she was skating on vehicular way before the lecturer met her. If she's guilty in the aspect of skating on vehicular way, then she should calm down because she has no case. But if she was skating on pedestrian walkway, then she has every right to skate there. Let's view this issue more logical.
@bolded: You're being logical and you're saying you're SURE? How can you be sure? Doesn't that make it obvious you just want to support the lecturer? I watched the video, the lady was saying "this is a sports and I know what I'm doing". The man would have mentioned it if skating on the motorway was the issue. Apparently, he just sees skating as dangerous.

@red. Yes, why not? You have to know someone to have an issue with them. Separate concerns my foot. The company she leads does bad things - she's complicit. She's not leading it right - she's probably "working hard" at mismanagement or, at least, sanctioning bad corporate practices. grin I hope I've annoyed you enough for today. I guess she's your aunty or something. Pele.
From "I didn't say she ain't hardworking" to "it's not her I have issues with" and now "she's complicit". When you see someone with no life achievements, it's easy to tell.

I admit red. It's true my question undermines her hard work. But blue shows you have very poor comprehension. An objective reader would see my anger is at Ikeja Electric and may ask me "wetin dem do you?" I don't know Soetan. I was being sarcastic towards because I have beef with the company she heads. IE scams people and if Soetan is its CEO, I don't rate her. That's my position - deal with it.

I wonder what NL profile you're talking about that is not impressive. People keep impressive profiles here?
If you were this CEO, and you read that comment of yours, would you be like "oh no, he's got no issue with me, just the company"? Your issue is with the company, yet you quoted me when I called her hardworking just to let me know she isn't hardworking? Oga, biko, go and rest. If you had any professional achievement yourself, you wouldn't have undermined that lady's commitment to her career just because you don't like the company. Your inability to separate concerns is a proof of your lack of bureaucratic knowledge.

UK and scam!!! There own is to collect and once they see that you have started benefiting proportionally from the system they themselves created, they will instantly change the rules of engagement in the middle of the game. Lots of migrants Nigerian families would be stranded in the UK in the next five years to come.
Public policies are generally not retroactive. Those already there will hardly be affected. Besides, it's not uncommon for a new administration to change policies. Sometimes for good, sometimes for bad. Remember there was a time UK graduates were asked to go home immediately after schooling. The policy changed again to give them time to get a job and people started enjoying it without noise. Canada just increased the number of working hours for students and people are enjoying it in silence. It's only when the policy doesn't sit well with us that we start calling the country names.

You're lashing out. I hope everything is ok?

1. I did not say she's not hardworking - I asked a question and then put the company she runs (the scamming and no-so-well run Ikeja Electric) on the spotlight.
2. You don't know the position I occupy - being on NL proves or disproves nothing.
This was your comment:

"What makes Folake Soetan hardworking? Because she occupies a big position?"

You asked two rhetorical questions that undermine her hardwork. You obviously don't see how attaining the position of the CEO of such a company means she's hardworking. We're not kids, so don't play word games. You only brought in the so-called scamming just to oppose the idea that she's hardworking. What you failed to understand is that that does in anyway diminish her hardwork and ambitiousness.

I don't care about your position. She has her profile on the internet for all to see. The only profile of yours we know is your Nairaland profile which you not even very impressive. Being on NL may not prove anything, but your comment proves a lot. Nobody who understands what it takes attain such positions and the responsibilities that come with them would come out to ask "What makes Folake Soetan hardworking? Because she occupies a big position?"

What makes Folake Soetan hardworking? Because she occupies a big position? The company she runs, Ikeja Electric, is a corporate scavenger that relies on time-tested 419 and blackmail tactics to scam Nigerians of their hard-earned money.
Go and occupy that big position nah since it doesn't require hardwork/competence.

As a graduate of Harvard Business School, Folake Soetan is the Chief Executive Officer of Ikeja Electric Plc, the largest electricity distribution company in Sub-Saharan Africa. She began her career in the Aviation Sector working British Airways and Virgin Nigeria as the Head of Sales. She joined Sahara Group in 2009 and worked in one of its key entities, SO Aviation in Ghana as the Vice President, Downstream - West Africa and led the expansion of the downstream market share beyond the shores of Nigeria and into Ghana, one of the fastest growing economies in Africa.

Yet she's not hardworking. It's you jumping from one Nairaland thread to another that are hardworking.

Obviously, Africans love to sexualize women, and unlike the popular belief, this isn't cause of thier dressing or anything, it's just the men's outlook. A hardworking woman like this is not an exception. And please, don't tell me it was a genuine interest cause he obviously knew he wasn't going to get her by asking that dumb question on the internet. He never said he was a vegetarian. Killing wild animals is different from eating farm animals because we don't have control over the reproduction rate of those in the wild. The possibility of finishing the chicken in Nigeria is almost zero because we breed them. We can't say that for wild beasts. And like the person said, if the population of these wild beasts gets so low, it will have a rippling effect on the ecosystem. Hope you get it now.

Did God create any region called Nigeria? Did God create geopolitical boundaries? Was the family of Jesus not migrants? Why even bring God into this?
