L0velyn:What will happen if the government start demanding an annual financial audit of all religious organizations?,you need to understand that the reason why many churches run roughshod and are financially reckless is because no one is regulating them, the church is not an earthly authority and therefore,it is subject to the government. |
God2man:One of the tennets of Christianity,as taught by Christ is to obey the earthly government while we are on earth. Yes God appointed them, but they must yield to government regulations that are reasonable, because christ beseeched us to do so. If I had my way,all churches and islamic organizations will be providing annual financial audit to the ministry of finance to account for how they spend the money donated to them by the masses. In fact, religious organizations will be classified under separate "non-business commercial entities" and taxes would be introduced. They should be able to contribute to our national development, not only spiritually but financially. |
donnie:Laws must be followed, and frankly, there is nothing wrong with this FRC law; it only ensures transparency and accountability. The reason why there are many materialistic churches and imams today who dupe their members in the name of religion is because their was no government regulation to whip them in line. You should also remember that christian politicians are part of the people who made this law,it isnt a presidential decree,so it has nothing to do with "witch hunting". |
Anas09:Funny that you now realize that my opinion of you doesnt count, after accusing me of devil worship and twisting the scriptures. Anyway, its true enough that my opinion of you is inconsequential, and vice versa. |
Anas09:Do enlighten me about the "perversions" I did. Since you are such a pure fountain of knowledge, flowing straight out of the crystal sea on which dwells the throne of God; all men must take greedy gulps from your gushing spring of spiritual gnosis so as to discover the key to salvation. Why,you must be such an indispensible mortal asset in the hands of the celestial powers. |
Anas09:I'm shockingly unaware that I "twisted" the scripture anywhere in my posts. Perhaps you should point out the where I did so. |
Anas09:I would like to correct the notion that I'm a devil worshipper, though it amuses me that you think so. As for your opinion, well, suit yourself. |
Anas09:I bear no ill will, neither am I a devil worshipper like you have promptly concluded.I'm a christian who views matters of religion very objectively. I percieve that you lost your sense of decorum because you felt my post was antagonistic, but in truth,I would hardly waste my effort on such a mundane task. Of course, opinions are free, even for lunatics. |
OLAADEGBU:It was a war of ideology; the catholics felt that the protestants were heretics, while the protestants saw the catholics as oppressive and hypocritic. At a point,it became political, the pope had great influence and power over the thrones of most european kings, that power was being threatened by the growing protestant movement as some european rulers began to sway towards the protestants due to the desire of the royal families to reduce the powers of the pope in their territory. Naturally,Rome responded rather violently and the protestants were motivated to take up arms too. |
Scholar8200:I guess the fear and terror that the disciples felt when they saw jesus walking on water was due to the fact that they were devils?....and when peter, james and john cowered in great fear after beholding the tranfiguration of christ(along with moses and elijah) on the mountain, that too was due to the presence of devils lurking around. Oh my....we really need to contemplate the nature of the spiritual world. |
Anas09:And you are wondrously elated that he is contemplating suicide....you must find it very amusing, right? The nature of man is such that he takes hold of righteousness, and make of it a mirror for his own ideals, thus relecting his intents through a veil of godly benevolence.Out of religion,he fashions the cruelest weapon. |
Scholar8200:The power of God induces fear,I mean raw fear. Let us review the philosophical indoctrinations that we have contrived in our haste to "speak" for God. |
KingEbukasBlog:The word "they" and the phrase "challenge their belief" seemed to indicate a subtle application of an unofficial collective noun in your sentence that could be translated to mean athiest. |
KingEbukasBlog:It amuses me that you assume i'm an athiest,a most erroneous conjecture,I assure you. I did initiate a debate, but it seems that I will recieve no perspective of intellectual substance from the "knowledgeable" christians here. In our quest to rationalize our fundamental ideology, let us take heed lest we fall into the snare of the hypocrisy we claim to oppose. |
4everGod:I fear you mistake my intentions good sir,I have taken much liberty in perusing Nairaland's dusty religious archives in hopes of sating this little debate of mine. However, none of the threads I have encountered(yours included) have been able to answer my question both intelligently and with spiritual accuracy. What I discover is some christians giving roundabout essays that seem to curiously alternate between calling the first light jesus and later concluding it is infact the sun which would be created in the future. Then the athiests waltz in and point out the many flaws in those arguements, and then everything descends into a verbal brawl. |
I think the point people are debating here seem to be whether the universe was caused or if it is simply an uncaused eternal entity. Now,christians will say that the universe was caused by a first entity who dwells outside space and time, which is God.This claim however has a curious effect of triggering rigid skeptism from athiests who counter it by postulating that the universe is uncaused, and therefore there is no God. Now,I will endeavor to restrain myself from this controversy, lest I get confronted with the business end of a verbal assualt. However,I have an interesting question to ask,for educational purpose,so permit me to slightly derail. According to the bible,"in the beginning,God made the heavens and the earth",but after discovering that there was darkness upon the deep,he conjured light. Now,we know that this "light" predates the creation of the sun(according to the bible, earth was created before other planets and heavenly bodies) The question is,if this light wasnt the sun or moon, what was/is it? |
Anas09:Do you not fear God?,does that mean God is "negative"?. It is the power of an entity that induces fear, not the nature(good or bad). |
OP,there was a point where I too wondered about Nigeria's virtually non-existent tools of economic diplomacy,I eventually concluded that, like many other aspect of our nationhood,we have neglected in using economic diplomacy and international relations as soft power to protect our interests. Nigeria has been governed by backward brains almost since independence; no vision,no ambition,no order,no stability and no intellect, only selfish politics that bears little coherence. Anyway,as for South African economic interests in Nigeria; I have realized that it would be unfair to summarily accuse them of exploitation.Of course, dont get me wrong, they are indeed a bunch of thieving nicompoops, but really, what corporate venture isnt?. To be fair, all these SA companies are operating in Nigeria's very harsh business environment where they all have to generate their own stable power all year round and contend with our abysmal infrastructure. In the end,it's we consumers that will suffer it because they have to make profit. |
kahal29:Which of the agencies do you work in? |
I totally agree; even if we diversify through agriculture,we will have to face economic factors like value of our currency which would determine the cost of our exports abroad,we will have to contend with countries who have relatively cheaper exports. I think we should focus on industry, all other sectors will experience a boom. |
Nigeria seem to have set a new cascade in the history of African democracy. |

Power is the ability to exert control/influence over the activities of any society. Power is attractive because it provide a means for an individual or a group to exhibit direct controls over the affairs of the society. Some see power as a tool to express ideals which they feel are in the interest of everyone else, while some see it as a pedestal for self aggrandization. In my opinion,it is necessary to seek power, especially when you have something to offer or you are dissatisfied with the status quo; power is the only way to broadly exert change or transformation, either it is positive or otherwise. I dont believe that power corrupts people,in my opinion,it is the person wielding the power that makes corrupt use of it.Power is just a social tool, not an entity or tangible force, therefore, power does not corrupt man,but it is man that make corrupt use of it.However, power can influence a person's personality or fundamental ideals, but not to the point of complete change; that part is an individual issue. |
Jayceon:Which South African Navy? |
Jayceon:Eiyah....sorry That same Nollywood is worth billions of dollars and contributes heavily to our GDP.. Sorry if your little weasely butt got hurt. |
Jayceon:Do you mean SA actors or SA films? Because SA movies are nowhere to be found in the world movie benchmark; only SA actors who work minor roles for Hollywood. Or do you think Hollywood belong to your arid zulu wasteland? |
Jayceon:SA has movies?,that must be new! If you go the the cinema, you'd see high-class Nollywood movies, some of which features Hollywood and Bollywood actors. But of course, you live in south-west township where electricity is a luxury. |
TonyeBarcanista:I know these things,I am only stating technicalities Such as,he has a dual citizenship, and was married in a court in the UK where homosexualim is not a crime; if he is arrested by Nigerian authorities, the UK will have to step in even though such an act is prohibited by Nigerian law,.What happens in such cases of parallel national laws? Its mere consideration of the technicalities involved. |
Jayceon:Kuvuki depicts the exact society of your sprawling zulu cesspit; Stop talking nonsense,if the village where you live had a cinema, you'd have seen how superb nollywood movies are, especially newly released movies.Stop watching cheap african magic that shows 10 year old movies. Now,you say you are best in sports, where are the banana bananas? ![]() |
Blue3k:Yeah,its quite obvious how backwards and uncultured she is; I detest bigots. These same girls will be hugging and cuddling each other in public(many of them even pleasure each other in private),yet they will be the first to raise eyebrow at gay people. As for guys, isnt it ironic that they demand anal sex from their girlfriends, yet they will carry the biggest club when they spot a gay guy?,what exactly is the difference between them?,by social rule, any form of anal sex is a taboo,at least, that is what many people like to parrot in public. Nigeria has the highest number of people watching gay pornography on the internet(verified google data),and yet everyone denounce all form of gay affiliation, who then are the people watching the porn? Hypocrisy is just to much in Nigeria. |
TonyeBarcanista:Perhaps,I knew you'd bring up the matter of association, marriage and the likes. But he wasnt married in a Nigerian court, neither does he have a "gay group" stationed anywhere in Nigeria; these are all technicalities anyway. |
TonyeBarcanista:You cannot prosecute and convict a person who was never caught in the act; its a technical issue. |
