It is paramount to make good grades in school.People should not be discouraged to invest their efforts into academic excellence simply because certificate is not yet a prerequisite to becoming a career politician in Nigeria. That a man or woman with pass was able to become a minister does not mean you too will become one with a pass; getting excellent grades boosts chances of attaining peak position. Though nothing is quite cast in stone. |
akoko11:It occured to me eventually..thanks though. |
Though I understand the rationale behind OP's idea..however,I think that such a law would be quite too extreme. There are bound to be a number of people out there who graduated with a 3rd class or pass, but possess sharp intellect in specific areas. The university system itself is frankly not helping matters; some people cannot just do "la cram,la pour",but the way some courses are taught in Nigeria requires a student to be able to cram as much as he/she can. In Universities like Unilorin, you can stay on the queue for 5-7 hours under the scorching sun just to write your CBT exam!,under such conditions, you get too tired to even care about the exam questions when you finally get into the hall, you just want to do your exam and get out as fast as possible to get rest. There are even cases of missing results and disproportionate awarding of marks. By and large, these arent excuses to justify failure, but it cant be omitted. What Nigeria needs is a working system, only then will the unserious ones be weeded out. |
Doriana2:What does 3 pointer mean? |
I get intrigued by the intricate faculty usually displayed in humans. A third class or pass holder will often ridicule and dismiss the academic credentials of 1st,2:1 and 2:2 holders, questioning if 1st class is an achievement and siting examples of successful people who graduated with low grades. While the latter group will always look down upon the former as dunces or under-achievers with little career prospect. It is often interesting indeed. But maybe life is more about ambition....intelligence is measured in academic grades, but ambition is measured in the level of determination. However,it holds true that 3rd class is nothing to brag about. It is what a man makes out of life and circumstance that should be celebrated. That does not mean that a 3rd class cannot make it in life as much or even more than a 1st class,2:1,or 2:2,the chances are just slightly unequal. |
Moheat:Etsako too?....cool Though I dont support what my brother(@crown) is saying,I do understand his point though. |
CROWNWEALTH019:Are you from Edo state?,sounds like etsako to me. |
Emperor007:Many factor could have been involved, the retailer could have stored the beverage improperly or punctured it while transporting; leading to microbial action. Dont blame the company so hastily. |
GenBuhari:The Lake Chad basin has been confirmed to have a large deposit of crude oil. However, the dilemma is that the lake encompasse 4 countries; Nigeria,Chad,Cameroon and Niger. Each country has a share of the oil deposit that fall within its individual territory, but due to the current Boko Haram crisis,Nigeria has been unable to commence exploration in her part of the basin. But it has been reported that Chad has long since commenced exploration, even going as far as to take advantage of the BH/army engagements in Mandara mountains of Nigeria to pass sub-surface extractors and drill oil from the part of lake chad that falls within Nigerian territory. If Nigeria were to build a naval base on Lake Chad,it would signify our direct interest in taking charge of all activities within that region(including oil exploration),countries like France,Chad,Cameroon and Niger who have stakes there may not welcome such percieved "expansionism". |
cstr151:Perhaps it would dispel your doubt if the SANDF elite troopers were to test their strength against the NA Special Task Force fighting BH in Sambisa. |
Nigeria too needs to start strategizing on how to develop our economy geometrically, and then arm up militarily with intent to kick out the western powers from the continent, expand and dominate. But sadly, our people and system are visionless and juvenile. It is truly hard to be patriotic in Nigeria. |
France and her vassals will definitely not be happy with this news. |
seunny4lif:I dont believe Nigerian soldiers are lesser trained than their South African counterparts, only less equipped(grossly so). The boko haram war has so far initiated a widespread training and re-training of vital NA regiments and units,we are now miles ahead from where we were a few years back,in terms of training anyway. Forget the bush war,the last time the SANDF entered an armed conflict was three decades ago(their recent operation in C.A.R was largely a disgrace). What the southies have got on their side is sophisticated hardware and advanced military technology.Their military industrial complex is quite top grade too. |
ZarZar:If we treat all South Africans in Nigeria the way some of your black citizens treat their white counterparts, then all South Africans in Nigeria will be dead already. The fact that you need any form of justification to treat a fellow human being cordially shows how morally backwards and animalistic you guys are. |
ZarZar:Blacks kill whites in your country, many have died in racially instigated farm attacks and homicides. But I dont care about how you people treat each other anyway, what I care about is how you treat my countrymen. Almost every country in the world is prone to having internal bias and isolated ethnic/tribal/racial crisis now and then, even the most developed nations do.But only South Africa has xenophobia, this signifies a society at the pricipe of oblivion. For when the foreigners are all devoured, such a society will then turn around and devour itself inside-out till naught but ruin is left. |
ZarZar:I daresay that we have our issues, but at least,we dont murder fellow human beings in the name of job opportunities, or God save me,something as mundane as "stealing" women! I dont need cosmetic gestures to show my disapproval and sympathy for the unfortunate incident in Ile-Ife; unlike you,we dont shed alligator tears in front of the TV and then turn around to massacre our neighbours in broad day light. |
ZarZar:Yes,the same way you have "mourned" the racially motivated plaasmoorde that keep occuring to farm owners in SA almost every year, with hundreds of thousands killed already?. Spare me the petty sentiments, and fix your rotten country. |
TonySpike:So they should be murdered in the gutters without fair trial? If you have watched any of the videos depicting xenophobic assaults, then you'd appreciate how criminally insane some South Africans are. I think Mexico will respond if american citizens start to pounce on mexicans accused of selling drugs in the US.I think China will respond if her citizens are murdered for bribery, theft and smuggling by a kenyan riot.Russia will surely respond if it citizens are smashed to death for cyber-crime by an european mob. If they are guilty, try them in court and jail them like any civilized country will do,not gun them down in the gutters. Human life is sacred, please, try not to make careless statements about such sensitive matters. |
Abike Dabiri Erewa suggested a more robust diplomatic response, but of course,I percieve that Mr Oyeama is being very relunctant and downright incompetent. How many times does Nigeria want to send diplomatic missions to SA?,this same problem occured in 2008 and 2015,and we could only make noise and send diplomats who ended up achieving nothing. Look at how Nigeria responded to the yellow fever deportation saga in 2014,we immediately deported over 130 South Africans for "incomplete documentation" in a reciprocal diplomatic move that quickly sent signals to Pretoria, forcing them to apologize to us very publicly. That was a strong and coherent diplomatic response. Perhaps, when a high profile Nigerian official is murdered on the streets of Durban, then our government will learn to value an aggressive response. It is indeed a pity. |
MrMaestro:Nigeria alone has the population to field an army of 5 million soldiers in a few years. The UK and France would have to airlift their own soldiers all the way from europe to africa; it would be extremely expensive and risky for them to transport a huge amount of soldiers and military hardware over such a long distance(even with the french military bases currently littering the continent). Another thing is,where will they station their soldiers?,very few african countries will allow UK-France to deploy for full scale war in their territory(even francophone countries will be relunctant),out of the fear of being caught in the middle of a war or even out of solidarity. |
A joint force between those nations could actually prevail against an allied UK-France military in a conventional warfare on the continent. However, there would be many problems: *The demographics between those nations; the distance and strategic location will make synergy between Nigeria/Ghana and Kenya/Ethiopia very difficult *Also military hardware; most african military forces are grossly under-equipped compared to their european counterparts. For any african alliance to prevail(in short to medium term) over such western powers,we'd need external support from opposing powers like Russia and China in terms of military gadgets and funding,at least, with the way africa is currently. |
Probably due to the presence of cyanobacterial bloom, most particularly the species called Spirulina. The consumption of Spirulina is what gives the african flamingo its pink colouration. |
ring7:No major party that has federal ambition will even consider the idea of giving him a ticket. Corruption is a big issue in Nigeria and accepting someone like Ibori to contest in any election will fuel a lot of opposition rhetorics. |
I hope registeration and collection of PVCs will commence as soon as early 2018 to prevent postponement or irregularities. |
I call on the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly to adopts a resolution that will place the Republic of South Africa under strict diplomatic sanction and economic embargo. I call on the AU to suspend South Africa as a member of its body. I challenge the ICC to investigate and prosecute South African public and government officials who have incited their populace to committing wilfull manslaughters. I petition FIFA and CAF to suspend South Africa from international football. I demand as a bona fide citizen of Nigeria that we suspend all diplomatic relations with South Africa, recall our ambassadors and expel their's. All funds belonging to South African nationales and businesses in Nigeria that are to be repaitrated should be traced and frozen. Xenophobia is a plague that must be controlled aggressively, the government of South Africa should be pressured on all sides till it finds a lasting solution to its insurgency. |
CNBC should talk about South Africa's ailing rand, the barbaric upsurge of xenophobia and the mine workers' crisis waiting to engulf the nation in flames. Nigeria will solve her problems, but not by foolishly allowing the naira to float and devalue to between N800 and N1000; can you imagine how inflation rate will skyrocket?,imagine how much goods will cost in a country that is still largely import dependent!!. No one can pressure Nigeria to devalue, devaluation at this point is an anti-socialist fiscal policy that will further ruin the economy and cause a nationwide unrest. Let CBN continue to buoy the naira while simultaneously injecting money into diversification efforts. In the meantime,NNPC should continue ramping up production and the FG should persist in persuading agitators in the Niger delta. |
There is a simple(but slightly expensive) solution to this dilemma....simply relocate the gorillas to a specially constructed reserve or ranch. This way,the super-highway can be constructed without having to neutralize or endanger the local wildlife. |
overhypedsteve:Unfortunately,Africa is not Europe. Yes,there were some irregularities with the gambian election, but according to the gambian electoral agency,it does not change the fact that Barrow won. If gambian citizens so love Jammeh, why arent they on the streets protesting his removal?,why are they celebrating the swearing-in of Barrow? I think Jammeh's claims are over-exaggerated to depict a probably non-existent conspiracy. |
donnie:It is of little consequence what you think of me,I dont care about what name the pastor bears, the point I'm trying to make remains quite valid, our churches need to be more responsible,I appreciate that the doctrine by which many churches operate helps us live a little more righteously, but that is simply not enough. |
donnie:Amusing. We shall see whether I will have such power or not.Do not assume you know everyone tha crosses your path online. As for the payment of religious taxes,it is only a matter of time; people give tithes, offerings and donations to churches, but what do they use it for?,they dont even pay their local pastors and workers well, most of them dont even build more churches with the money(instead,it is the local churches that pool meagre resources together to build their own local church after paying tithes and offerings,if not, they have to make do with rickety tapolene and bamboo stalls),they dont engage in corporate social responsibilities like building roads, schools, boreholes, and hospitals for free. So,what is thier function? |
donnie:Indeed, that is why local parish pastors who do all the work are paid peanuts despite the billions of naira that are accrued into the coffers of these big churches every sunday, that is why the churches build big universities and charge fees that most of their common members cant afford. Yes indeed,I can see how "financially disciplined" and benevolent they are. So,if the government is corrupt, does that mean the church should go rogue too? |
God2man:Government is appointed by the PEOPLE and commissioned by God. God has placed earthly authority in the hand of the government, and spiritual authority in the hands of the church. What this means is that the Government supercedes the Church on earth. Churches must obey reasonable government policies. |
