Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon has alleged that late Biafran warlord, Odumegwu Ojukwu caused the civil war by announcing a different thing from what was agreed upon at the Aburi Conference which preceded the struggle. Gowon shared the first-hand narration in a small version of “General Gowon’s War Memoirs”. He opened up on some incident that occurred just before the nation was plunged into a three-year civil war. He said in the memoir; “The purpose of going to Aburi was to try and find a means of coming together again and know ourselves and try to co-operate and work together in the interest of the country. And so, we went there with no set position but to be able to discuss generally and work together to restore the trust and confidence that we used to have in the army which unfortunately was broken by the event of January 1966 of which I was the only lucky beneficiary to be alive among the senior officers from the same school, from Barewa College. The coup plotters happened to have come from Umuahia Government College. For me, this is quite interesting. And of course, I went to Sandhurst with quite a number of them like Alex Madiebo and Pat Anwuna. They were together at Sandhurst but they were not part of those who did the coup. “At the Aburi Conference, Ojukwu was the only one who came with set papers and a list of demands, what he wanted to be done. And every demand was read from that particular paper. And it was written on a pink paper. And during our staff college training days, if you have anything written on pink paper, it means it is the S-solution, the staff-solution answers to the subject that you are discussing. And so we joked about that, his solution to the problem. With the rest of us, myself and the other governors from the West, from the North, from the Midwest at that time, I said let us go there with an open mind to discuss the issues or whatever it is with a view to bring us all back together. Because as at that time Ojukwu had really cut off from the meeting with the rest of us all this time and even after Aburi. “After the Aburi meeting, we scheduled a meeting to discuss the agreement that we reached at Aburi and to bring out a decree that would really represent the decision that we took there but Ojukwu would not come to that meeting. Instead, he came immediately after that meeting to Benin to meet with David Ejoor to know the outcome of our meeting which he deliberately absented himself from. And the outcome of that decree was honestly to give Ojukwu practically everything that he wanted in order to have him back to the team so that we can work together to try and solve the problem of the country. My stand was this: You cannot undo what had already happened. I mean the crisis that we’ve had from that coup to all the killings that took place in the northern part of this country at that time. Those things you cannot undo but at least we can now work together to try and get to the bottom of it and deal with any perpetrator and try to ensure that it does not happen again in the country. "This was the essence of that decree which if agreed to would have given us that opportunity. The only thing that I added was a clause—the non- secession clause. From the intelligence gathered at that time, we knew that there were plans by the Eastern Region to break away. And that was part of the reason Ojukwu had not been coming or agreeing to our meeting all the time. "We had sufficient intelligence that this was what was going to happen. And so, I added one clause which is that there would be no secession. It was on that score that they rejected that decree but I can assure you that the decree represented the honest view of everything that was agreed to at Aburi which gave Ojukwu practically everything. As the head of state, if any governor refuses any decision that I thought was for the good for the country, it cannot be carried out. I had the veto power as head of state but I had to forego some of my powers for peace to reign.” The former Head of State also disclosed that he attended the Aburi Conference in Ghana sick, as he recalled how Ojukwu announced a different thing from what was agreed upon at the peace conference convened by Ghana's first President Kwame Nkrumah. He said; “Unfortunately for me at that time I was having a very serious attack of malaria fever. But I went through the meeting all the same. The decision we took was that when we come back, I am going to make a statement to the nation before any of the governors make any statement concerning Aburi. But still, the fever was there and I was down. As such, I was unable to make any statement on that day or the following day. Whereas Ojukwu when he came back, he went straight to the radio station to say that he got everything and we even agreed to separate. So I was woken up in the early hours of the morning by the governor of the Midwest who asked: “Have you heard the news or the comments by Ojukwu over the air concerning Aburi?” “No,” I replied. “What did he say?” And then I was told what he had said. So I asked the Midwest governor: “Was that what we agreed upon?” “No, that was not,” he replied. “But Ojukwu has gone ahead to announce a different thing to his people and to the whole world.” Gowon also expressed belief of the civil war being predestined in spite of all effort to prevent it. The former Head of State said; “Today, with the benefit of hindsight, I believe honestly that that was fortuitous. God probably meant it to happen so that at least that agreement we got into in Aburi would not strangle the country. Which meant that Ojukwu could have easily decided to secede. And there is nothing that you could do with it because we had agreed to everything at Aburi, except of course when I put in that clause. That was the only additional thing that I added. “Well, they can say that at Aburi, Ojukwu won the argument but as far as I was concerned, I was honest and sincere in dealing with this thing. There was no cover up in our decision and my feelings towards finding solution to the problem which required honesty and sincerity as well as carrying along all your colleagues in the interest of the country. Once that is broken, I am afraid I know my duty, I swore allegiance to defend the unity of the country, the sovereignty and the integrity of my country. And as a soldier, this is what I am supposed to do.” https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2020/1/biafran-war-ojukwu-announced-a-different-thing-from-what-we-agreed-on-at-aburi-gowon-opens-up-50-years-later-2.html |
Political/social analysts have supported the moves by Nigerians mostly youth groups agitating for the return of former President, Goodluck Jonathan, as early permutations on the successor of President Muhammadu Buhari begins. Mr Oribo Einstein, political/social analyst, and Comrade Wisdom Ikuli, also a political analyst, were of the opinion that the 2023 Presidential election will be about personality and not on party basis. The duo who spoke in a telephone chat with DAILY POST argued that beyond the agitation for his return, the former President has the legitimate and constitutional right to contest. Mr. Einstein stated that though Jonathan denied recently that he wasn’t nursing any ambition for the 2023 presidency, he (Jonathan) doesn’t need to nurse before becoming. He further stated that Nigerians have come to see that the only way to salvage the current situation in the country is for the likes of Goodluck Jonathan to come and manage the affairs of the country. Einstein said that whatever thing that happened in 2015 was for that time, it was the people that also told him to step aside and give someone else a try, so if they feel the person there is doing his best and they need someone to continue so be it. “The country needs a democrat and a patriotic citizen like him. If the international community are taking advantage of his personality, so do we ignore those facts. Whether its a rumour, in every rumour there’s always an atom of truth in it. Even if he never said it and the people feel like he should, we will also support the move and mobilise because the South-south region had just a single term. “Sometimes people don’t nurse ambition, it is the citizenry that always call on them for service, and if Nigerians deem it necessary that he should come, we will join hands to plead with him that he shouldn’t hesitate. And for his party(PDP), they should take advantage of his plea, whether he is from the minority or not, I think that has nothing to do this time around because it is even the Northerners that are clamouring for him to come. According to Comrade Ikuli, “I know so many youth groups already forming alliances and other Nigerians that are prevailing on him, mostly from the North, while the people of the Niger-Delta don’t even know what’s happening.” Ikuli emphasized that its not optional based on their argument that every region had a two tenure which is eight years, so it was ideal for the South-South to also complete their tenure before moving to another zone, adding that base on that the Southeast has also agreed that they should be allow to complete their term before shifting to another zone. He said the pressure is on him (Jonathan) to contest based on his past records, noting that when you throw yourself on the people it becomes problematic but when the masses long for you it’s better. “Jonathan should come and continue from where he stopped, that is the argument. For me, I go with the school of thought that he should come and complete his tenure. Nigerians have always supported and clamoured for him, and for the party(PDP) they should put their house in order because 2023 will not be about the party but about the people. What played out in Bayelsa where it was a partyless system will happen again because Nigerians will take the centre stage, and bring in anybody they so desire. Meanwhile every efforts put in getting the reaction of the former President through his media aide, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, didn’t yield any positive result, as he never responded to text messages or phone calls. https://www.tori.ng/news/139847/2023-presidency-analysts-give-reasons-goodluck-jon.html |

The Spokesperson of the Discos responsible for the distribution of electricity across Nigeria, Sunday Oduntan has asked Nigerians to stop calling them NEPA. Oduntan who appeared on TVC's 'Your View', debunked claims of a 78% increase in electricity tariff as he pointed out that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is the independent regulatory body in charge of regulating the power sector just like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulates banks. He further revealed that more than 95% of what is used in Nigeria's power sector are imported which is why there is a proposed increase in electricity tariff. Oduntan added that if the exchange rate is okay and there is reduced importation in the electricity sector, there will also be reduced electricity tariff. The Discos spokesperson also told Nigerians to stop calling them NEPA because it shows they don't want change, have not noticed there is a change and also don't want electricity. Twitter has announced it will test new ways to
limit online abuse by offering users control over
who can reply to tweets. “We want to help people feel safe participating in the conversation on Twitter by giving them more control over the conversations they start,” the company tweeted on its official communications account. “We’ll be experimenting with different options for who can reply to Tweets in early 2020.” Company officials gave details of the move at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday, the speciality website TechCrunch reported. The strictest option would prevent anyone except the original tweeter from responding to a message. Users could also allow anyone to respond, only people the tweeter follows or mentions, or just people mentioned in the tweet. “We thought, well, what if we could actually put more control into the author’s hands?” said Suzanne Xie, head of conversations for the platform, according to TechCrunch. “Right now, public conversation on Twitter is you tweet something everyone in the world will see and everyone can reply, or you can have a very private conversation in a DM (direct message).” According to Xie, there is “ an entire spectrum of conversations that we don’t see on Twitter yet,” TechCrunch reported. Online abuse is a serious problem for many social media platforms, including Twitter. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2020/jan/09/twitter.jpg https://www.tori.ng/news/139074/twitter-seeks-ways-to-reduce-online-abuse.html |

In the motion, the claimant sought an order of the court committing Runsewe to prison for contempt of court order made on December 15, 2017. The judge said sentencing Runsewe to the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) will serve as a deterrent to others who abuse office and disobey court orders with disdain. He ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest Runsewe with immediate effect and hand him over to the NCS pending when he retraces his steps. Here are a few tips on what to do when you find out that your man has a side-chick. Cheating is nothing new; and as sad as it is to admit, one still has to concede that its occurrence has now become so commonplace that it no longer shocks anyone. Men cheat, women cheat. Boys cheat, girls cheat; married or not, old or young the tendency is ingrained in everyone's DNA and many seem to have chosen to explore theirs as wantonly as imaginable. Despite the rising popularity of the belief that women cheat more than men, it is still men who bear most of the cheating blame;either because they get caught the most or because they actually do cheat more than women. What happens when men are caught cheating In any case, one of the most recurrent themes when men are caught cheating is the reaction of their partners. When women discover that their boyfriend or husband has a side-chick, the reaction very often is to go after the woman in what is nothing but absurd, unjustifiable rage. Of the two people, only one person promised to be committed to you and it is from that person you should demand answers. "It is just sad, " says Nosa, a young Lagos professional."Women who go after the other woman instead of their husbands or women have got their priorities wrong," she concludes. And she has a point. Your husband's side chick could possibly be under an illusion that he has no one, and could be just as shocked as you that there is another woman [you] in the picture. Whatever frustrations you have and fury you hope to express should be directed at your boyfriend, who promised and led you on to believe that you are the only one; before going on to promise the same to another woman. Instead of fighting the other woman, you should be strategising on dumping him or finding the best way to make him pay for doing you dirty. https://www.pulse.ng/lifestyle/relationships-weddings/why-your-mans-side-chick-is-not-your-problem/swnywdw |
Osun State Police Command has said it will begin enumeration of obscured churches across the state. This followed the alleged murder of a female student of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Miss Favour Dailey-Oladele, by a self- acclaimed pastor, Segun Philips and her lover, Owolabi Adeeko, in Ikoyi-Ile. Addressing reporters yesterday at the command headquarters in Osogbo, Police Commissioner Johnson Kokumo said the state would not be safe for criminals. Said he: “As part of our proactive measures, we are embarking on enumeration of churches in bushes. “We will be proactive in our activities in ensuring that the churches as we have them in obscured places, bushes and the rest of them, are real churches and not shrines or homes for ritual killing. We will want to know their parent’s churches. We will look into the membership of the church, their parent’s churches.” Kokumo noted that “no person is a member of the church at Ikoyi-Ile in Osun State where the horrible killing of the final year student was carried out.” “The purported pastor is using the place as a criminal hideout for ritual purpose.” He warned criminals in neighbouring states to have a rethink before embarking on a journey of incursion to Osun State to commit crimes. The police paraded 41 suspects for offences. Eighteen suspects were paraded for alleged disruption of Osun State’s New Year party, 16 suspects for possession of marijuana, two suspects for kidnap, four suspects for armed robbery and one suspect for vandalism. https://thenationonlineng.net/ritual-killing-police-to-begin-enumeration-of-obscured-churches/ |
Emmanuel Addeh in Yenagoa Antonio, the six-year-old son of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Water Resources, Nengi Talbot, has been freed by his abductors after 16 days in captivity. It was unclear if any amount was paid before his release, but the police in the state claimed to have rescued the little boy without paying any ransom. Antonio was forcibly taken away on December 22 by four gunmen, who invaded the commissioner’s residence at the New Commissioners’ Quarters in Yenagoa, the state capital. The assailants were said to have broken into the house of the commissioner at the quarters located in Opolo and demanded money from him, but when he allegedly failed to give them money, they reportedly seized the boy and took him away to an unknown place. However, the police said the special police crack team, Operation Puff Adder, freed the victim. The state Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia, who received the abductee at the command’s headquarters in Yenagoa, said the boy regained his freedom following sustained efforts of the police, who were on the trail of the kidnappers. To avoid easy access to them, Anozia said the kidnappers were moving the victim from one creek to another. He explained that the police adopted high level of intelligence and professionalism to free the boy unhurt. According to him, all the suspects involved in the crime were arrested and would undergo further investigations for prosecution. In his comments, father of the victim commended the police for their efforts, stressing that the police never demanded any money throughout the period his ordeal lasted. The police commissioner, who said the father paid no ransom to get his son back, described the experience as traumatic. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2020/01/08/six-year-old-bayelsa-commissioners-son-released-after-16-days-in-captivity/ |

Fanta Boy Ekwem from Umuchu, Anambra state, took to a popular Facebook group on Monday January 7, to bitterly lament how his younger sister ''insulted and fought him'' back earlier today after he demanded to know why she did not wash his clothes as he instructed. https://alexis.lindaikejisblog.com/photos/shares/5e132871b3ba6.jpg According to him, the sister is not 'fully married' as the fiance has only done introduction and paid her bride price. He stated that she still lives in their family house and will remain there until her fiance concludes the final traditional rights on Easter day. Sharing a photo of himself wearing a shirt allegedly torn by his younger sister during their fight, Ekwem wrote; I don't normally bring up my family issues online but I have to do this for you guys to judge it, because everybody who were here when it happened was on her side. She is married and so fucking what? Am just so sad this morning, this thing that happened today won't end just like this I swear. We have four girls in our family two out of the four girls senior me, and I senior two, one of the girls who I senior got married(the guy just did introduction and small something on her head) she is still in our family because the guy is yet to finish up the traditional rights according to the igbo culture. So yesterday I was going out I bring out my Dirty clothes as you can see it on the pictures, I told her to wash the clothes for me so that today I will go back to base with them. She didn't talk to me I left. I came back in the night and went to bed I didn't ask of the clothes I told her to wash. This morning I woke up around 6AM to park my things so I can start going back to Lagos, I called her to come and give me the clothes she washed for me, she didn't even talk to me. I said okay let me go to the back yard to check if she sprayed it there. I met my cloths on the same spot I left it for her to wash yesterday. I asked her why didn't she wash my cloths for me, she didn't talk to me again, I told her to leave whatever she is doing this morning to wash my cloths for me or else I will deal with her. Immediately I said that she started running her mouth. Saying things like..."don't you know that am married now(imaro na m alu go di) why will you tell me to wash clothes for you, now is not that time please don't disturb me(all these was what she was saying). I said to her "which kind yeye married you marry? she started insulting me, a girl I senior with a year and 6 months talking to me this way? I got angry and hit her, I couldn't believe it she fight me back and tore my cloth. Am crying not that she beat me but my people were siding her, everybody was against me, why will I tell her to wash clothes for me. I should give her some respect as a married girl. You guys should judge this, not that she is fully married to the man, she is still in our house the man is coming on Easter to finish up the traditional rights.....Look at my cloth how she tear it. https://facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=121580716007177&id=100044657477255&refid=17&ref=opera_speed_dial_freefb&_ft_=mf_story_key.121580716007177%3Atop_level_post_id.121580716007177%3Atl_objid.121580716007177%3Acontent_owner_id_new.100044657477255%3Athrowback_story_fbid.121580716007177%3Aphoto_attachments_list.%5B121580026007246%2C121580519340530%2C121580579340524%2C121580679340514%5D%3Astory_location.4%3Astory_attachment_style.album%3Athid.100044657477255%3A306061129499414%3A2%3A0%3A1580543999%3A-2835913124763695815&__tn__=%2AW-R

The Minister of Labour and Employment , Dr
Chris Ngige , has enjoined the Igbo to show
mass presence in the All Progressives
Congress . He said the APC was the easiest political platform the South -East geopolitical zone could use to ascend to the presidency of the country . This was coming a day after a close ally of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd . ) , Mallam Ismaila Funtua , said any Igbo who wanted to be President should join the ruling APC. Funtua , who featured on Arise Television ’ s The Morning Show on Saturday , had said , “They ( Igbo ) should belong. They should join the party . They want to do things on their own and because they are Igbos , we should dash them the president ? That was the reason I asked : is it ‘ Turn By Turn Nigeria Limited ’?” “If the Igbo want to be President, then they must belong. If you don ’ t belong, then you can ’ t be the President . That is the issue and we have seen it with MKO Abiola of blessed memory. He went out of his way , he cultivated people .” Voicing the same opinion , Ngige , while speaking with APC members on Sunday in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State , said Buhari had shown enough goodwill to the South -East that the area should support him by showing heavy presence in the APC. The minister had on the occasion shared 3, 700 bags of rice , grinding machines , generators, sewing machines to party members at various levels in the state . Cash and food were also shared on the occasion . Ngige vowed that the APC would take over Anambra State in the 2021 governorship poll as a pilot demonstration of overwhelming acceptance of the party in the zone . He said , “ The roads which my administration constructed in 2004 are what people are still using today . The All Progressives Grand Alliance has failed us. 2021 is my last fight. https://punchng.com/join-apc-get-2023-presidency-ngige-tells-igbo/ |
