Pumpkin34:What a brilliant summary! |
tuscani:I like your "definitions" of these two terms. |
johnmartus:Bros, Abeg shift! Please come up with a better suggestion. Which programmes do they have for the youth. How many youths have been engaged or involved since the elections. The youths will probably be remembered again just before the next elections. |
opeaceo:@opeaceo I agree with you. But you have to realise a lot of those young folks are under the control of "demigods" also known as "god fathers" Your ability to perform in office is a function of your abilities and how you came to that office among other factors. The fundamental issue is in the political process, poverty and lack of political education among the masses. Until the masses are able to vote based on conviction and not monetary considerations the kind of people we need at a time like this will not present themselves for office. You and I know that a hungry person will rarely be interested in planting iroko tree, cocoa that can guaranty the future, at best he will be interested in potatoes and maize. These folks prefer it that way because it guarantees their hold on power. |
DankemzI:This is a fat lie! Do not defeat yourself. Purge yourself of the Stockholm syndrome. Nobody is talking of revolt, we are talking of the youths launching themselves in the political firmament come 2019. Ain't you tired of the same "gerontocrats" holding the youths captive in their own country? Folks that started handling power in their 20's telling folks in their 20's, 30's and 40's now they are useless and not able, and should wait for a tomorrow that never comes. “The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.” The "cabal" or whatever it is have one vote each, and guess who do their dirty work; "the youths".19th century American abolitionist leader, Frederick Douglass It will never be enough until you say it is enough. See what Trump is doing in the GOP race, initially few took him serious, but now they are trying to put banana peels on his way and the guy keeps getting stronger. |
ayusco85:I support you. However, if you have the opportunity to travel, I will encourage you to travel but not really for green pastures but for "green education", because it is freaking green in Nigeria only that the endemic challenges obscures it from many. Trust me, you need it to enhance your world view. You can not compare one thing or one experience. Being in Nigeria you know things are bad/wrong, being outside you get a fair idea of how bad it is and how it can be. An efficient exploitation of these experiences will enable you believe more in yourself, set your priorities, calibrate and measure your progress, without waiting for "America". |
Op, your head dey correct! I have been thinking the same way. On my own I have decided that if I am in a position to vote, I will not be disposed to voting anyone that has reached retirement age in the civil service (i.e. 65 ). Come 2019, for me anybody born before independence 1960) is not getting my vote for any elective office. Let the sit behind and give "advice" These guys have been using the youths and telling us we are the leaders of tomorrow but will not give the youths a chance. They just use them during elections, and let them shout on each other over them on-line and offline. |
It was interesting reading this, and I think it will be nice sharing: http://journal-neo.org/2016/01/24/whats-really-going-on-with-oil/ Enjoy the analysis, conjenctures and scenarios. |
mployer:Really?? Are you serious ![]() Yet the banks pay out at the official rate (about 199 NGN) when you send money to Nigeria by Western Union or Moneygram and then turn around to "sell" the money in settlement of their customers' dollar transactions at 300 NGN or more. With this practice, I was amused that they (the Banks) were wondering why customers were not rushing to deposit foreign currency in their domiciliary accounts when CBN reversed itself. They did not understand that people are cautious since they government introduced capital controls, because of the fear that one day the government may grab all FX in domiciliary accounts or ban it entirely forcing folks to accept Naira at a rate stipulated by them. It will be interesting to see the volume of Diaspora remittances for Q1 and Q2 2016. |
genuinechimere:You are suggesting that the government tax Nigerians abroad so that they can have money to buy more BMWs? Besides the United States that newly introduced this policy, pray tell me which other countries are doing the same? Are you also aware that an increasing number of US citizens are giving up their citizenship because of this? It is these silly flash ideas that are not thought through that are and will ruin things. Just like the ill conceived directive banning banks from accepting foreign currency into domiciliary accounts that was reversed just a few days ago. I laughed when I got messages from Banks about the reversal and was spooked to read a few days later that the Banks were surprised people are not forthcoming. What about the governments of the countries Nigerians are living requesting from our government payment for hosting and "taking care" of her citizens. |
@OP Do not join this conspiracy of silence against your brother. Information is power, let your brother know, and make his decision with full information about the family he is marrying into. A lot of folks are mixing up giving your brother access to such important information and forgiveness. If I am your brother and later found out you hid such information from me, I will be very disappointed. It is up to you to tell your brother, while it is up to him to do with the information whatever he pleases. Do not let him shoot in the dark. If issues crop up in that marriage tomorrow, and this info gets to him by then, you relationship with him is most likely to be ruined. There is a reason why the elders make enquiries prior to marriage. |
Ballmer:Check this: https://exchange4free.com/ I have experienced their services, and I tell you their rates are very much better and yje sender does not have to pay transfer fees. |
Who is still doing Western Union and Moneygram? Oga, you need to upgrade to better service providers with competitive rates. |
ffo:I have it and the following in soft copies: a) 2016 Proposed Budget Details b) 2016 Appropriation Bill c) 2016 – 2018 Medium term Expenditure Framework Those that are supposed to lead us should stop embarrassing and traumatizing us! Those that want can download their copies here: http://yourbudgit.com/?page_id=159 #Thebudgetcannotbemissing #wehaveourcopies If care is not taken we will still be in this budget "ish" till June 2016. A car that is running late is not good to have accident. After loosing momentum for 6 months, now they are telling us cock and bull story, and how the shot the bird and the mother flew away! So they want to tell us since the documents came to them they did not distribute it, they have not started studying it to get prepared for reasonable and critical inputs? They just parked it in a cartoon or drawer? |
ffo:I hope this turns out to be a joke! On a serious note, if it is the 1800 page document they are looking for, I have a soft copy of it. They should just ask Nigerians to help them, and I personally will be more than willing to give them the soft copy and if need be, print the whole 1800 pages for free for them to pick up. I crave to see a reason for hope, but unfortunately I am yet to see one! |
@OP I had to do this fast. See the corrected version. You should have started by introducing yourself. I did that for you in the version below, Insert your department at the dotted space and remember to append your signature. Dear Professor Smith, I am Nis Cole, a student in the department of ................................................. . I respectfully write to request for an override permission on Financial accounting 101 in which I performed poorly last semester. I am hopeful that your kind permission will help me acquire a better understanding of the course materials. If given the chance to retake the course, especially as this is the last time Financial accounting theory is being offered, I am determined to put in my best. Thanks. Yours faithfully, ............................................... Nis Cole |
@OP You did well! I think its time to form a Nigerian version of Scam-baiters. By keeping him busy, wasting his time an airtime, you reduced his ability to reach out to more gullible people. Another issue is that it seems law enforcement in Nigeria is a bit behind. With the SIM registration in place this should not be happening. CBN, the Banks and the police should have created a number to forward such messages to, which is followed up, and scammers picked up. You can not imagine the number of the vulnerable folks (less literate and poor) these guys would have wrecked. Such experiences can make such folks run away from the banking system, a move that it contrary to CBN and the Banks' goals. Unfortunately I am very busy, when I was less busy, if you dare send me such scam mail, I will punish such scammer by subscribing such email to receive informational alerts that will keep the fella's email box hopefully so busy, he will have more work sifting to access the status of his "traps". |
iconSAGE1:If it is wedding you are talking about, to me that is a fat lie. The truth is that the most important is that the parents of the girl gives her away to the husband and blesses the couple. Even if they ask you to give a token of 1 kobo you are married. The people "family" that "own" the woman are the ones that can give her out in marriage. All the other ones, church etc. are actually ceremonies. That is why before these ceremonies they will want to know you have settled with the girl's family. |
Only one? ![]() Ok! we have heard! |

dovelike:Lady, they are talking about real life and you are talking of what happens in american films? :-Abeg, tell them short fused ladies that anyone of them that intends to physically abuse a guy, should better confirm the guy is not a real man, because "unreal men" tend to kick any asses that kick them first without regard to sex. ![]() |
My predictions for 2016? On the basis of what I see and the benefit of hindsight, I predict as follows: 1. Economically 2016 is going to be a very hard year for many (as hard as rock). 2. Many will lose their jobs and/or sources of income. 3. As a consequence crime rate is very likely to increase. 4. We are very likely to get "essential commodities" re-emerge into our national vocabulary again as a lot of these disappear from the shelf. (this will be a totally new experience for the "indomie generation". For those old enough to remember the experience, they should be properly guided). 5. Import licences or something like it may appear as government tries to ration scarce Forex. 6. Our GDP growth will be lower than both the government "optimistic 4.7%" and the Brentwood institution's projections projection of 3.6%. 7. Power supply will not stabilize during the year Caveat : If you do not agree please do not insult. You may wish to present the basis for your disagreement/reservation or optimism. The next 365 days will tell. Very importantly, I do not make any claims to divinity or "special revelation" for these predictions. Just predictions! Predictions based on what I see!! Alas! How I hope these never come to pass!!! |
linearity:Your second option of peer to peer transfer is feasible. But the problem is, with Naira on this dive most guys will want to wait to see how low it dives to hedge against exchange risk except the need is urgent or you are family. Secondly, with the BVN deadline most foreign based Nigerians not visiting Nigeria this season are most likely to be unable to operate their Nigerian based accounts from 31st January, 2016, and hence will have less appetite to have anyone pay in Naira they can not deploy for hard currency that is most likely to fetch more Naira in the short term. To me it makes no sense to bar foriegn based Nigerians from operating their Nigerian based accounts. A wiser approach would have been to instruct the banks to do enhanced KYC with international passport, Resident/Green card, Proof of foreign address or Utility bill (and if necessary letter from Nigerian Embassy in country of residence). On the basis of current regulation, I see reduction in diaspora remittances to nosedive in Dollar terms in Q1 and Q2 2016. |
bayulll01:Sir, you still do not get me or you are interested in useless arguments and do not seek enlightenment. Foreign cards can be used and have been used to transact in Nigeria including Naira withdrawals. I talk about what I know. I have used them in Nigeria. In fact using them to transact in Nigeria benefits the Nigerian banking system, the Nigerian economy, and our foreign currency reserves. How do you think some countries survive mainly on tourists' spending? What concerns your foreign bank with your transaction cost, it is simply passed on to the customer. When you make transactions locally, does your bank pay the cost of transaction (COT) for you? May be its folks like you, with limited knowledge of how things work, that will finally and completely mess things up. I have tried to educate you but you seem too handicapped to understand. ![]() Since it seems we are not communicating, I have decided to heed these words: Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. —Proverbs 26:4 Don’t argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. —Greg King Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. —Mark Twain Good bye! ![]() |
Toks2008: ![]() Many people are wearing masks, you need time, smartness and some patience to see the real person(s). Without this incident, you can imagine the speed the Dad will have used to give her away to you in marriage if you had asked for her hand in marriage, thus outsourcing their family problem. Of course they will be waiting for your tales of woe with their daughter (knowing you will surely come when you see) and the carefully prepared with standard palliative answers that does not touch the problem but turn your life to a nightmare (e.g. be patient with her, she will change, no marriage is always sweet,). Sharp guy, Congrats you just smartly dodged a bullet! |
docspikkey:Sir, Please take a walk and never look back. I understand what you are seeing. What you are seeing is her real self. This is a preview of the future. You will be ignoring these ominous signs to your peril. This babe will bring out the beast in you. Run before get turned into something else. She is comfortable enough with you to let you see her default setting. If she can not change now, she will never change when you ring that finger. It will only get worse. If you can not get her to see these as an issue now, you never will after. Some can seem to "understand" your view, but very soon slip back to default setting. Do not let it get to you, your standards are reasonable. Without mincing words if what you said is the way it is, I support your braking up for good 100% |
drnoel:How do you fund your Dom account when banks are not accepting cash deposits only wire transfers to Dom account ? You are not allowed to travel with more than 5,000 USD I think. Let me make a hypothetical but "real scenario" so you can appreciate the quagmire. At this moment, it does appear that if I have 10,000 USD cash, and want to travel, my bank wont accept the deposit into my Dom account, and It is apparently illegal to travel with all. So the viable option is to travel with less than or up to 5,000 USD. Since Naira denominated cards now appear out of question, I only travel if the 5,000 USD can fund the expenditures of the business trip, if not I stay back, airlines do not get to sell tickets, income from the airports decline, I lay of some workers and start trying to survive on my capital. Expect to see the full effects of these policies by beginning of Q2 2016, by then the guys at the top may start trying to press buttons to roll out reactionary measures .... but it will be "good" steps being taken 4-6 months behind. I know these are difficult times, but the management of things leave much to be desired to me. Somebody is not running the full scenario and appreciating the interconnected cause and effect relationship of things. As things are, these policies are annihilating the SMEs. |
bayulll01:Sir, it is very obvious that you are either too dense to understand these matters, simply not well exposed at least to international "ish", simply deluded or uninformed. Let me answer your questions, perhaps you can now be educated a little on these matters. 1. Can you bring america master card or visa and use it here in nigeria. Yes Sir, you can bring your American, European etc. Mastercard, Visacard etc to Nigeria and use it here. In fact it should be possible for a tourist to spend weeks in other countries without touching the local currency if all service providers are card enabled. When you are doing that your local currency transactions are converted to dollars and the dollar equivalent of your local currency expenditure removed from your Dollar denominated Mastercard. Doing this is equivalent to "importing " Dollars to Nigeria or the country you are making the transactions in. This is the reason informed folks are against the "demarketing" of Nigeria that can make foreigners not come here to spend there hard currency here. 2. Can you open a bank and deposit Naira in america or other european nations ? No Sir, In principle no, because our Naira is not an "international" currency. For Dollar and Euro , you can have accounts in such denominations in many countries. For the Chinese Yuan I am not sure. This is what Naira can become one day, if we are able to get Nigeria and her economy to grow up to its full potentials. I am aware that it I can have a Dollar denominated account in European countries if I do not want to convert to Euro. For Dollar and Euro 3. Can you use america bank master card and shop here in Nigeria, if you can answer those questions first I will help you reset your brain. Sir this question has been answered in the answers to question 1 above. Sir, now that answers have been provided to your questions, you might wish to proceed and "educate" us with your now exposed and magnificent ignorance. |
I was in support of its removal then. I am still in support of its removal now, with even more gusto. I look at the issue as it is. The fuel subsidy thing to me is a very big form of waste. In my own view, It was meant for the masses, but a cabal enjoys it. The fight against corruption should have been directed at fuel subsidy removal months ago. I am of the strong opinion that when fuel subsidy is removed, a comparison of the national fuel consumption levels before and after, is what will truely reveal how mis-directed it had been, and how much we have been losing to the cabal in the name of fuel subsidies for the masses. I never believed the consumption level then, I still do not believe the present figures. |
OlujobaSamuel:Sir, no matter how you spin it we are in deep shit. You might wish to channel the criticisms to whichever table you deem appropriate or more appropriate. We are in a May day situation and you want to engage in altercations over semantics. For over 6 months, a very crucial 6 months the economic thing was left to the CBN to handle in the absence of a finance minister, what did you say? What was you opinion then? Post it let us see? When the presidency was making monetary/ economic pronouncements about Naira, where were you? When shit hits the fan you want to add a spin. Discerning minds know that the CBN is not making these pronouncements in isolation. If the government is at variance with "CBN pronouncements" it has not been made known. And we all have an idea of when these by fire by force pronouncements started. Only a mad man dances without music. Sir, please don't just look, please see! |
NavierStokes:Accidents just don't, it is a sequence of events and actions. I think they goofed when they stopped banks from accepting dollar receipts. The guys imaginary or real they were hoping to stop, we were told packed Dollars, will be able to make huge profits now exchanging them for Naira. That decision and subsequent ones must have negatively impacted diaspora remittances in my opinion. I am waiting for data on that by Q1 2016 With the present situation, I expect the diaspora remittances to "by-pass" the CBN; more peer to peer transactions at arbitrary exchange rates guided by parallel market rates. Some people are saying so we do not become like Greece and Venezuela, but I say we are already there. What we have is a time-lapse in perception for the general populace. After Q1 2016, it will be clear for all to see, when some commodities start becoming "scarce". |
OlujobaSamuel:Please shut up if these economic matters are too difficult for you to comprehend. I guess you are still under your parents "umbrella" and insulated from reality. If you find a topic is way beyond your pay grade (intellectually speaking), you should sit down and get educated. Who was the finance minister 6 months ago? Part of this is the cost of vacillating to appoint key cabinet members. Now we have a finance minister, what guidance do we have on the fiscal policy direction? Still waiting for it to put together. Is it not? When discerning minds were calling for fast and decisive action in tandem with the momentum, I guess you were among the crew insulting. |
