@All Please folks take it easy on this guy. Some are already calling the guy names, saying he is stingy, he has not started........etc. Nobody has asked about the guy's income. Last time I checked even barrow pushers' wives still have children. @OP You asked for advice, you will get it. Do not allow yourself be harassed. All fingers are not equal, I know. Men are in sizes and life is in phases. First let me congratulate you in advance on the new one coming into you family. Pregnancy is not a disease! It is not a curse!! It is a blessing !!!, and an integral part of the cycle of life. Luckily, it does not just happen, there is usually a 7 to 9 months' notice. Your darling wife can not tell you because she does not know the prices, I guess this is your first child. Even if it is thirty thousand Naira you have now give her to get the things that amount can get, starting with the most vital. If you can afford more, that will be great. Gradually, you will get most if not all of the things in the list before her due date. Do not wait or delay until you think you have all the funds. It's gradually gradually that the snail whilst carrying its own house reaches its "destination". By careful planning a man of limited means can get a roof over his head. Once again congratulations in advance ![]() |
sonOfLucifer:All textiles burn, but there are standards on the burning rate and other requirements before you can use in certain applications. All textiles ultimately get "wetted" but in some applications water will just run off the fabric without soaking it. This is same for building materials were safety regulations require introduction of retardants to slow burning rate to increase chances of escape. It is not always luck that folks walk away from accidents with minimal or no scratches. It is a conceptual design approach in which safety is designed, i.e. "infused" into a product at the design stage. Have you ever bought a product with long time warranty or guaranty? Why do you think some manufacturers are able to give long duration warranty like 5, 10, and even life-time and still stay profitable in business? Sir, In some climes the material you can use to produce personal use items are strictly regulated. In case of accident with proof that the manufacturer's choice of material is the cause, the producer may be liable. In some places anything goes due to lack of regulation and standards. All bulbs "die". However, I once used a bulb that lasted over 10 years. You will not believe it! That was in Nigeria. But now you can find yourself replacing bulbs every three months. This is the reason why SON has a lot of miles to go. |
sonOfLucifer:In addition, I want you to ensure there are no flammable vapours/gases around especially in this time of fuel scarcity. Do not store fuel in containers in your house, ensure that duvet does not get close to your generator. Such items should have passed through quality checks, but considering where you bought it I have serious doubts. Static electricity can start fire easily, and this can be difficult to trace. Be very careful, that thing you got in your hands can be deadly! |
Guy, stop beating yourself or letting yourself be beaten. You are perfectly right. How can someone lie about that. How many more lies are waiting to be revealed? If you had taken an oath based on what she told you, you would have been a dead man right then! I advice you to thread with caution. This is obviously a very red flag, and concerning the way the lie was revealed to you, be very careful about your plans with her. Things usually do not happen for nothing. We usually ignore them to our peril! |
@ OP Is this a joke or what? Do you want to hear it from our mouths that you are on your way to getting the greatest "mugu" of the year award? Chai!!! So the foolish ones are still been born? I beg you, locate your senses and run away from the girl for your good. There is not and never was a relationship here, you are being scammed big time. Do you go to the ATM if you do not need money or things that need money? So tell me the reason for her to call you, when she does nor need money. I will not ask you not to continue being an ATM. In fact call her now, and ask her if she needs some cash, until you go broke! May be only then you will get some sense. |
MTN should rush and pay up because delay is proofing dangerous. ![]() Who knows what will be the actual fine in the ext two weeks? ![]() I have a question, what would have happened if MTN had already paid the earlier lower fine? On a personal note, I do not pity MTN one bit. Anyone remembers the moment you see a recalcitrant bully having his/her ass kicked. Hope they learn to follow the rules after this. |
Shit might be about to hit the fan soon. The apparently trigger-happy Turks might have rewritten the rules for air space incursions to "shoot down after 17 seconds". The Soviets feel betrayed and have just positioned assets to handle things. As it is today, the Russians are legally invited by the Syrian government, and anyone doing things in that airspace will be wise to pre-inform the Soviets. With the hasty and silly Turkish move Putin is fully justified in moving assets that apparently gives him control over the airspace. The Turks should be wary of entering or being in the Syrian airspace for more than 17 seconds. This is some kind of respite for the Kurds, Turkey have been pounding from the air. |
@OP Is this a joke or what? How much do you have in your savings from your 80K per month job that you are spending on a leach like this? How steady is your job in this challenging economy? If you lose your job tomorrow, have you saved enough to live on for the next 6 months, the next 1 year, while searching for another one? You want to pay a girl for going out with you?? When did "relationship" become a service ? What has this babe given you since these 4 months, and what exactly are you paying for? She is even demanding about half of your expendable salary and you are here asking what you should do? Where do the breed these kind of males? Why are you doing this to yourself and to your destiny? OP, stop allowing yourself to be scammed in the name of a relationship. Run away from her and not look back. At this rate you will soon be carrying gun after depleting your income looking for who to rob to meet her demands. Please OP, it is confirmed you have been a mugu all his while, please do not allow yourself to be crowned the greatest mugu of the year by spending a further kobo on this "razor-blade" girl. |
Guy run as fast as your legs can carry you. Somebody wants to obtain you. OBT things loading! Imagine a babe making such expensive promise on your behalf and you want to sign on to it? ![]() This babe wicked oh. She want to use your hand to collect the chestnuts in the fire oh! Guy receive sense!! Please do not bring us shame. Do not confirm yourself a mugu or maga. Na beg I dey beg, you hear? You wan make I pray for you? Ok. Any and every device to obtain you, to defraud you, to "mugurize" you, to "magarize" you, to make you shell out 90K for a promise you did not make, in this critical time t,when salary is not sure, when even jobs are not sure, when even fuel is scarce, in the name of love, in the name of lust, in the name of anything, lai lai e no go work!!! OP, can I hear you say Amen!, with your friends and well wishers, ![]() This prayer wey I fire for you now, e no easy oh! |
odeotito:I agree with you that MTN has been acting with impunity. They should find the money and pay till the last kobo. I will be very disappointed with the Nigerian government if they do not follow through on this. MTN did the crime let them pay the fine! You do not come to a country and do business anyhow without respect for laws, for customers and for national security. This is not the first time a corporate entity has been fined, and will not be the last. Ask BP in US how much they were fined in USA for the oil leak, not to talk of the amount they were forced to pay fishermen etc. and for clean up. You will also see how much fine VW will be paying in different countries for the emission scandal. Even in Uganda MTN will be paying sh5billion in Uganda for sending unsolicited SMS. This shows they have not been good corporate citizens! There is even the chatter of how they have neen moving funds around to perhaps "dodge" taxes. Instead of all this nonsense people are talking, I think we should be standing behind our government to send a signal that we expect companies to abide by rules in doing business. I use this opportunity to call on SON or the concerned government agency to look into the case of rampant industrial accidents involving amputations of workers' limbs by companies using equipment without safety guards in place or disconnected. The way some corporate citizens behave in Nigeria they can not try half of it in their home country(ies). caveat: I have had a dose of MTN ill-treatment. The line I bought about 10 years ago for thousands of Naira was blocked by MTN without any warning despite the good credit balance on it, and against the rule of waiting for a period recycled sharp sharp and thus causing my sensitive information to be sent to the new customer they sold the line to. Unfortunately, until next year I am seriously engaged outside the country, but hope to dig it with them. In the meantime I have stopped using their services or calling anybody with their lines if their is an alternative network number for that contact. I have also encouraged family and friends to communicate with me with other networks. You do not treat me badly and I continue patronizing you, not when there are alternatives. |
@OP Why are you bothered? Since the slaps went both ways, it could be the new mode of greeting in the legislative chambers. ![]() |
tochinoyi:@OP "Wetin you still dey do with them? Dem tie you for their network? No be person wey barber see and wey siddon for im chair im go barb?" I do not encourage folks to continue patronising entities that do not care about their patronage, especially when there are options. You have two choices, port to another network or simply get the SIM for another network. When they see themselves loosing market share, they will sit up. |
anataala:I am so disappointed with CBN. I got their address from their website and sent them a mail twice. You know what? The mail was undelivered! A central bank in the year 2015!! If you are in anyway connected to the institution, tell them to wake up. How does somebody communicate with them? if information on their website is not reliable. |
andyanders:Sir/madam, please stop trying to rationalize this bad treatment. Reading these experiences here is already making me feel so bad. No child should be treated that way. Unfortunately, this is rampant. Sometimes people make me wonder if they are really human. |
In times like this, this might be of help to someone: http://nairametrics.com/these-are-8-ways-to-tell-if-a-stock-is-doomed/ |
Plenty red on the board. Seems Mr. Market is not moved by the ministerial list. Seems the bears will be around for a while. Some "good news" might be needed to change this formation. Unfortunately I think the economic numbers for Q3 will not be able to do that. |
I do not envy this guy, his job is not easy in times like this. I just hope you are right, Sir. But, I will rather believe what I am "seeing". Let the economic data for the 3rd quarter come in first, then we can see how far.... |
@OP You are one smart girl! You are dealing with a guy who sees nothing wrong in borrowing to feed people that are not hungry. Someone that does not mind eating his tomorrow today just to impress. A guy that goes with the crowd. This flag is as red as they come. Ignore it at your peril. If you are my sister, my sincere advice will be, walk away and never look back. Such mentality as he has leads to financial ruin. No matter how things are at the moment, do not become a "lion" (mentally strong) that signs up for an army commanded by a "sheep" (fool). I guarantee you it will be extremely frustrating. |
Ugoobuz:Sir, Please next time do not quote the spammers and advertisers. It gets the distraction permanently entrenched on the thread. Just get their asses kicked out of the thread by clicking the report button citing contravention of Forum rule no. 6 that states; "Don't post adverts or affiliate links outside the areas where adverts are explicitly allowed." |
Honestly on this one I do not seem to have any opinion at the moment. At least until I get more information from persons well grounded (experts) in matters of our laws and constitution, as I do not pretend to be. However, I have a few questions, even as I am mindful of the fact that a "precedent" (example) had been set by Pa Obasanjo in this matter. Is this right ? Is this legal ? Does it have a constitutional backing? The last time it was practised what was the effect? .....on the sector?.....on the economy?........with respect to corruption? Will the president be obliged to send his name to senate as minister? .....undergo senate screening?......and take an oath as a minister to function in such capacity? As the years go by I wish that our democracy and democratic institutions grow in depth, stature, and wisdom. |
montezz:That's just cool! What a good memory!! Your Dad was truely and well educated!!! "To live in the hearts of those we live behind is not to die." |
9jatriot:I concur with you, Sir. For clarification; HUET means Helicopter Underwater Escape Training and SAS means Survival At Sea These are some of the safety training requirements for personnel to be deployed off-shore. |
IamAtribalist:Actually, it is not a Nigerian thing, It's sort of a global thing. In some climes prevailing circumstances have made it more obvious. I was in a country and a friend pointed to some frail old men in wheel-chairs, and told me a good number of these folks were top guys, and their issues started when their marriage collapsed and their women grabbed their resources. Some of them could not get over it! Check out divorce in a lot of the west, it leaves the man stripped of his resources. It was in the news sometime when a guy had to continue paying upkeep after divorce for a child that was not his own the lady passed on as his. The courts said no, the guy has to continue paying. (Please see the links at the end of my post) In the light of this scenario, some rich guys opt for pre-nuptial agreements to limit his potential losses, but you guess what, some babes will whine that it is not "love"! Sometimes a guy just pays and is even denied the chance to see his child. This is happening in "civilized" climes! So I agree with you that resources is the major thing. If we have those kinds of laws in Naija, knowing the way our people tend to overdo things, plenty wahala go dey for guys! http://fox2now.com/2015/02/18/judge-orders-man-to-pay-30k-in-child-support-for-kid-who-is-not-his/ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3010327/I-went-without-electricity-days-didn-t-eat-Fury-man-forced-pay-child-support-13-years-girl-s-never-met-despite-DNA-test-proving-s-not-his.html http://dailycaller.com/2015/02/19/judge-outraged-at-man-ordered-to-pay-30000-for-a-kid-thats-not-his/ |
IamAtribalist:Sir, what you have said is nothing but the truth. It takes courage to say things the way you see it. I hope that guys read you correctly. Women are after resources and resource control from my own observation of people and incidents/events. Little wonder Solomon had a 1000 women to himself, and at this time there must have been matured guys without any. Most of the time the trouble starts when the man's resources is lost or threatened. I wonder how many ladies will opt to settle with a "poor but good man" and desires he gives her "his time" |
IamAtribalist:Bros I salute. That's a mature and experienced guy talking. Listen to him! I can see you are well versed in feminine "hieroglyphics". ![]() |
shaxxjesse:I understand, that was why I said you should not look at the monetary advantages. Look also at the time value of money. Look also to the fact that your funding from your school does not come with a "bond", so you are not obliged to serve them for some years. You finish your PhD free of debt free, free of any of any "attachments", and free to start a career wherever you wish. Furthermore, the TETFUND is not really a bird at hand, how sure are we that the programme will be sustained in the next 2, 3 or 4 years. |
My genuine advice to you is to move straight on to your PhD. Please hit with the hammer while the iron is hot. Make use of the opportunity that you have now. Finish your PhD and then you are free to start a lecturing career. With 5 publications you are not doing badly. Since your school is sponsoring you, it is somehow as if you are having "a TETFUND" funding. Do not look at the monetary difference, look at the time difference; working for 2 years before being qualified to access the TETFUND thing. |
abdulfuntai:Hello! Please can I get a copy of your marking scheme, since your are now marking Nairaland comments. I am responsible for what I post, but you are responsible for what you understand. It is very obvious that you are hard of understanding and most probably a product of the skewed double digit admission system. I made it clear, I was interrogating some of the criteria, but in your challenged comprehension you might have been expecting an essay, and chose to pick on my post instead of making your contribution to the thread. I just checked your profile and understand that you are looking to start or have started your NYSC and if so, you are posted to a school and may be handling primary or secondary school kids in English. I also guess that this could have been way beyond your dreams and so you think yourself qualified to start grading Nairaland post. I would have spared time to teach you some types of literary expression, but unfortunately I am at the moment very busy in real life. I looked at my post and except for some question marks, I missed putting, I conveyed my thoughts. I guess you never came across it in the literary circles that you can make an issue clearer just by asking questions and not answering it, so that the audience get involved by answering the questions and drawing their own conclusions. I looked at your profile and your posts and observed that in 2015, you most probably a graduate of your sound academic system, cannot take screenshot from your phone, challenged in handling your business on the NYSC portal, have never made any reasonable post since you joined the forum and have turned the Forum to your "go to" site for problem solving. When next you see a thread if you do not have any reasonable comment or contribution to make keep off. You can never compare one thing. You have to have two things before you can make comparison. Finish your service, do your GMAT or whatever and have a taste education in other climes, then you can be in a position to compare. |
@All I think the OP has fire on his hands and is asking for help and not an analysis of his person or his error. If someone does not have an advice or suggestion, not commenting on a topic is not a bad idea. @OP Take things easy. I think the babe is way beyond your league streetwise. First things first! Do not discuss this with your Mum yet. First thing, establish that the child is yours before getting yourself worried. The chances are high the child is not yours, before you find yourself squatting on another guy's shit. The babe's motive in keeping this info from you, if she was sure you are responsible is a very grey area. Secondly, no matter what, do not accept any responsibility until you have proof the child is your own. Now to a possible solution: You mentioned you are in Europe and this can make it easy for you to get a DNA proof. You may buy a DNA pack with service on ebay. You can get this for about 100 Euros. Send it to her to collect the samples from the child's ear, mouth or a few stands of hair with the follicle. She sends it back to you, then you send it to the lab, and they send the result straight to you. "Trust but verify" Do not assume or presume when you can know. Do not allow yourself to be blackmailed emotionally or otherwise. With proof the child is yours you can talk with your family and step up to the plate with respect to the child's welfare. I got some link for the test kit with processing fees included: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/DNA-Paternity-Test-/281800379341?hash=item419c9c8bcd http://www.ebay.ie/itm/PRIVATE-DNA-PATERNITY-LAB-LABORATORY-TEST-KIT-99-99-ACCURACY-FATHER-CHILD-/220369462712?hash=item334f0b25b8 |
FranklinRich:We are most probably already in recession "waters". I think we have had two quarters with/of decline. The 3rd quater ends next week. They should be talking of how to get us out of recession. The funny thing about recession is that by the time it is official you are already in it. |
myjoy08:Sir corporate governance is not a little challenge oh! In think it is a major challenge! Imagine how far the year has gone yet the no financial news for this year. Even some for last year is being still expected. In situations like this, "bad news" can be better than no news. What metrics are investors and speculators supposed to employ to gauge their risks? |
