Mpeace: I don't really know much about Meritrade, but with Morgan you must be ready to call and call and call and sent emails, text messages etc from time to time. Inshort I know what I went through to open my acct with them, and at the end of the day, I had to open another acct with a smaller broking firm for peace of mind. Before Morgancapital and Faithfuls decend on me, note that I am not a competitor, am just one of those that feel things can be done without having to do followups and complaints. I think Morgan is either a little bit overhyped or cannot cope with the volume of new accts.
I am really surprised at the negative comments about Morgan and her customer service because my experience has been totally different. Infact, the promptness of their service to me have made me do over 85% of my transactions with them. When I was making enquiries about account opening via email, they were the first to respond. When I sent in almost at the same time the account opening documentations, the were the first to open (I think it took less than 60 hours). About a month ago, I had to liquidate some positions across two stockbroking firms, again they came first in effecting sales and transferring the proceeds to my bank. My experiences shared here happened between May and early September.
I will not forget to to say that their reduced brokerage fees have been cool too.

Disclaimer: I am neither a staff nor shareholder of Morgan. Infact I am yet to step into their office. Most of my transactions have been over the internet with me at a distance of over 6000 km from their location, the closest being over 500 km from their office (once). This is neither an endorsement nor advert, just my experience!

kokomuolo: This is one of the most interesting thread i have read in recent times. My ribs are cracking especially my bros wey put bag for "boot' of plane.
Sha mine was in 2006 on official flight from Lag to Abj. I traveled with my senior colleagues on Virgin Nig. I was excited as a first timer feeling like Obama. My first shocker was the take off; i couldn't get a grip of myself i held my colleague's hand with my eyes tightly closed and asking myself 'who send me message?' As if that was not bad enough there was turbulence as a result of bad weather. O boy u need to see me moving my body in rhythm with movement of the plane and guess what? I fell off my seat. Come see laf for plane. i turn comic relief. For 1 month i no talk for office.

Then in last Dec i traveled with my 3 yrs daughter who had been singing with 'mummy i want to enter aroplane' She couldn't wait to be searched at the boarding terminal as she quickly ran up the stairs. As she got in she started complaining ' mummy mummy the plan is not moving! mummy tell the driver to start it. Then came the take off. the song changed, mummy the plan is singing, mummy hold me i am scared. mummy should i pray? i want to wee wee. make una come see another round of laf for plane
The last paragraph got me cracking up with laughter!!!
EducationRe: Most Expensive Private Universities In Nigeria Unveiled by Excellent7(m): 3:54pm On Dec 22, 2013
futurewise11: my german class mate refer me to this section and i need to chip in that its a big shame on nigerian leaders and some religion leaders.how will the common man benefit from govt if not through education.all sector of the economy is destroy to make there private investment(university, generator importing companies) viable.

its totally absurd that some europeans see us as a true giant of africa, beleive me its a total fallacy.some religion leader get all this resource to build school from church/mosque(tithe,offering,donational) only for them to turn it into money venture without considering the common man/woman in the church all in the name of religion.my people please open your eyes.how many people can afford all these outragious school fees?when ever they have headache, backpain, dysfunction manhood they run to germany, why cant they provide standard medical facility in our country with our resources?
God really save that senator that come to my school hospital for treatment the other day.

come to europe as a student, expecially countries with free education (like finland, germany, denmark etc)you will know that nigeria is backword academically.my point is they destroy govt university to make there investment in private university survive chikena.
@ futurewise11, please remove Denmark from the least of countries with free tetiary education. In Denmark thing have long changed, foreign students without scholarships pay about 50,000DKK (around 1.6M NGN) per annum as fees.
I do not know why it sort of "annoys" me when public university mainly Federal University students say the are paying school fees. It should be appreciated that education in the federal universities are heavily subsidized. I doubt that the amount paid as fees in these schools can be enough to run them for 30 days out of 365 days in a year.
From confession of students, people finish a 4 to 5 year university course "paying' less than 100,000 NGN (750 USD). Compare this with the US where graduates come out with greater than 25,000 USD student loan liability on their neck.
Quality education does not come cheap. We should appreciate what we have and encourage our government to improve on the quality of our public education, so that bright kids from poor homes can get good education, while private university cater for the needs of those that can afford them.

PoliticsDoubting Authorship Of Letter To Obasanjo??? Why I Gave Up On My Dad – Iyabo by Excellent7(op): 7:11am On Dec 19, 2013
It appears Iyabo wrote the letter after all!
Both Vanguard and Iyabo appear to maintain their stand!!

Why I gave up on my dad – Iyabo Obasanjo

*Obasanjo to VANGUARD: “You’re bloody idiots”

LAGOS — With echoes of the open letter to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from his daughter, Iyabo, reverberating nationwide, the daughter yesterday gave reasons she gave up on her father ever changing.

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo spoke against the background of mixed reactions from Yoruba elders and politicians on the import of the letter which she said was the last communication with her father.

Obasanjo-Iyabo

The former president himself was furious when approached by Vanguard, yesterday, as he hurled invectives at the newspaper. The exchange between Vanguard and the former president ran thus:

Vanguard: Sir, we tried reaching you all through yesterday, to no avail, over the letter written by your daughter, Iyabo, to you.
Chief Obasanjo: You are a bloody idiot, you have published the paper and you are now looking for me, you are an idiot, don’t call me again. When Iyabo finishes you in court…. (hangs up).

Senator Obasanjo nevertheless flayed the orchestrated attempt in the social media by a network of associates of her father to separate her from the letter.

Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun State, who was cited in the letter, confirmed the meeting between him and Iyabo in Massachusetts, United States but distanced himself from the plot allegedly cited by her father to empower her with the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the next round of elections.

Besides, Aremo Osoba, several prominent Yoruba elders spoke on the development among whom were Afenifere leader, Chief Rueben Fasoranti, Afenifere bigwig, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, Chief Ebenezer Babatope and Hon. Femi Kehinde, a former member of the House of Representatives.

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo had written an open letter to her father accusing him of being a liar, manipulator, wife-basher and hypocrite who was desperate for a third term despite his denials to the contrary.

Details later…

Frenzied activities in the cyberspace to deny the lady wrote the said letter, but from latest news Iyabo seem to have actually written the letter, as she owns up and attributes efforts to deny/discredit the letter to concerned associates of her father.

Since you are disputing the quoted section of the constitution on this thread which I have not confirmed, can you kindly enlighten us on the constitutional provision on this matter from the relevant section of the book?

PoliticsRe: Fundraiser For Oshiomole's "Widow Victim." The Widow Must Not Die! by Excellent7(m): 3:39pm On Dec 01, 2013
Living Soul34: I feel we are taking the sentiment about this woman too far! Off-course, Oshiomhole's out-burst and temperament gave him away yet does exonerate the woman (widow)... Widowhood is not a licence for breaking the law...That the governor goofed does not rule out the fact that the broke a law... I'm sure that Oshiomhole did not set out that day to go about abusing widows but to make sure that his people abide by the law, so even as we blame Oshiomhole for his choice of words we should not forget to blame the woman for breaking the law too... From the way we are going i fear that we may start recommending presidential awards for apprehended arm-robbers if only they are orphans... If we are passionate about alleviating the sufferings of widows and other down-trodden in the land let's come up with a well thought-out program for that and shun this sentimental and political campaign of calumny under guise of helping Oshiomhole's victim of " You are widow, go and die" or whatever we call it.
Hello Sir, you got it all wrong and twisted! Watch the video again! I do not think the woman broke any law!! There was no proof to me she was selling on the streets. Her wares were in the cartons and she explained she was standing where they wait for transport, but in their over-zealousness and "eye service" nobody cared to listen. In desperation and in need of justice, she humbly knelt down appealing to Ceaser (the governor), only to be verbally abused to "go and die". Haba!!!
The governor goofed big time.

Its so pathetic how everything takes a political turn in Nigeria. How many of you lots ever helped a single widow in your life before this incidence? Same PDP that turned Edo State into a junk yard has turned philanthropic and philosophical after rubbing the state blind. Nigeria truly is a Satire. huh huh huh
Hello, I have not heard of any retraction, or apology, but I am aware of a justification of the action (anger).
It's a pity that some folks are out to play politics with this incident, but I know that majority are acting out of pure human empathy, that was denied this woman.

Can't you see no one gives a damn about the woman's tribe or religion?
She said her late husband was a policeman and knowing how itinerant the police personnel can be she can come from anywhere in the country.
PoliticsRe: Fundraiser For Oshiomole's "Widow Victim." The Widow Must Not Die! by Excellent7(m): 3:10pm On Dec 01, 2013
soul_glo: So the struggling widows in Benin city that follow the rules and not break the laws can now live with the motto that breaking the law pays. Why will people ever do right. Her neighbours that have problems of their own will definitely take home the message that it does not pay to do what is right. What is the point of suffering doing good when I can be rewarded for doing bad things. This is definitely a teachable moment. Both for the common man and the leaders. The only message you people are hell bent on sending is that breaking the law pays.
I guess you did not watch the video. From watching the video, I came to a personal opinion that the woman was not selling anything by the roadside. The wares I saw were still in cartoons. I believe within me that the woman was standing waiting for transportation before the over zealous folks swooped on her.
Check my posts, and observe my stand against rewarding lawbreakers. In this case this was not the case.
The things seized meant so much to the woman, that she was kneeling appealing for justice from the governor, only to be asked to go and die! That is inhumane!!

FamilyRe: Should I Commit Suicide,pls Advice by Excellent7(m): 7:09pm On Nov 23, 2013
Hello OP,
Number 1: Remove the issue of suicide from your mind. It is never a solution!
Number 2: I guess you you can speak your mother tongue fluently, Now think of English men and woman that do mess up in grammar!
Number 3: At least you are good in asking questions, take it from there. Fluency in a language is acquired by practice, so to not let the mistakes you make keep you from speaking. Make an effort to speak. Make friends you can confide your challenge to, and encourage them to correct you when you go wrong. A few people you can speak more in English and not feel embarrassed or judged but lovingly corrected.
Number 4: From your post, I can observe that you are well able to articulate your thoughts fairly well. Your problem seems to be speaking. My guess is that you are most probably an introvert, and too conscious of making mistakes and consequently too scared to try. Stop that fear! Break-forth and speak!! By speaking you get fluent!!!
Number 5: You can not imagine how many talented people I have come across around the world, that suck in English. On a lot of occasion educated colleagues have polished their oral and written English skills "on me" by preferring to interact with me in English and asking me to correct them id they are wrong. The downside is on me, as I do not perfect my other language skills (that is the language of the country I am in at that moment), as fast as I should.
Number 6: In this day of internet and technologies that offer some level of anonymity, you can have phone pals that do not speak other languages you speak, warn them you want to learn to speak English well, and you practice with them.
Number 7: If I may ask what course are you studying?

Pink!:
On a side note, I don't know why folks keep complaining about paying to use the trolley. All the airports I've used/passed through, I've always paid. How in the world would the trollies be maintained if there's no charge attached to it.
Let's be reasonable in our complaints pls.
@Pink! Please no offence intended, where have you been travelling that you had to pay to use trolleys in all the airports you have used? Your posts seems to suggest you have only travelled within Naija.
My experience is rather different, as in all my extensive travels, I have never had to pay for trolleys except in Naija. I guess it is same experience with most other travellers hence the complaint.
About your question on how trolleys are going to be maintained, I want you to know that this is covered in the taxes paid in your ticket. If you ever check the breakdown of your ticket fees, a very significant chunk goes as taxes. So when you pay for your ticket, you paid for use of airport facility like these (trolley, restrooms, escalators, conveyors, luggage carousels) etc.
And on the side of the airlines depending on your ticket type you can have access to their lounges in between flights on long layovers. I once did a mental calculation that suggested an airline spent more on me than the cost of my ticket due to a delay from there side that made me miss a connecting flight. They apologized, provided transportation to good hotel in town, took care of dinner at hotel, upgraded my ticket for the flight the next day. Was I happy? yes I was seeing the efforts made! Do I expect same treatment in Naija with any of our airlines? I don't think so!
For your information the international standard is that if your flight is delayed by up to six hours the airline is to provide lunch/dinner etc, more than this accommodation comes in except in emergencies (force majeure)
Honestly, a lot of things need attention in a lot of sectors on the side of regulators and operators. Being able to compare notes with what obtains in other climes is bound to make one appreciate how bad the situation is.

It is very unfortunate that this ongoing diatribe gives us random samples of the picture of the mindsets of the people who have once headed (FFK) and are heading (Stella) our aviation ministry.
I neither agree with FFK who as exposed as I deem him to be, in 2013 believes air disasters are caused by blood sucking demons/witches nor the minister that was reported to have unwittingly equated air accidents and perhaps incidents witnessed in the country to in my understanding; a force majeure ("An event that is a result of the elements of nature, as opposed to one caused by human behaviour"wink by saying they are unpreventable.
I guess FFK should make a memo to the president to appoint a "crack native doctor, pastor or Imam" with proven ability to exorcise ("cast out demons"wink as the minister of aviation. Nonsense!! I guess that this guy thinks malaria and HIV are caused by demons in 2013!!! I think that people that do not have positive contributions to make should follow the silence is golden rule and stop assaulting our sensitivities.

With this exposed mindset, thunder fire the devil that will even think of making me near any of our airlines!
In the light of this I think both actors should not be proud of their "mis-yarning".
PoliticsRe: Governor Aliyu Bans Old Boats In Niger by Excellent7(m): 4:43pm On Oct 06, 2013
Funny reaction to me! Another knee jerk reaction!! What is the definition of old boat in this context.
I think a better response would have been to introduce/enforce compulsory issue of life jackets to all passengers and elimination of overload of the boats. I wonder why precious lives are wasted due to preventable causes. I do not think a life jacket will cost much more than 10,000 NGN on bulk purchase and give many years of service. Facilitating and/or subsidizing the availability of these to transport operators will go a long way to saving precious lives.
