So says an old adage which is as true as ever. But our present Government has so imbibed the prejudices of Britain that it appears to see the very Devil himself in any foreign currency other than British or American.

Every vestige and every channel of the undue influence of Britain and her allies in and on Nigeria should be totally eradicated. This, in my view, can be done in three significant ways
FIRST, by the widening of the circle of our international friendship, and in particular by the immediate establishment of diplomatic, cultural, trade and other mutually beneficial relations with Soviet Russia, China, and Eastern Germany.

SECOND, by the progressive but accelerated termination of our undue economic dependence on British and other Western Agencies and Business concerns.

THIRD, by the translation or transformation of Nigeria into a Republic, and by the initiation, at an early date, of steps to this end.
The foreign policy of Nigeria should be independent, and should be guided by the following principles…In respect to the world in general:
a) The promotion of economic relations with all nations of the world.
b) Co-operation with all nations of the world in so far as they respect the ideals for which we stand.
b) Respect for the sovereignty of nations and non-interference in their domestic affairs.
c) Attraction of foreign assistance (capital, technical skills and training opportunities for Nigerians) on the most advantageous terms.

1.There are no files or papers with him to suggest that he is delivering any speech.I dont think he is not intelligent enough to address a business community without a written speech..
2.If Fayose assignment is official..how come only one underage guy followed him...where are his commissioners or assembly members.
3.That hall is very big...can anyone address such number of people without a microphone?
4.Study the crowd...everyone was busy doing one thing or the other...it looks more like a waiting room or a conference hall sitting people on recces.No one was concentrating...not even the Nigeria Kindergarten that followed him.A lot were even backing him.
5.The posture of fayose is akin to someone standing behind the pulpit for pix...not to talk

Fayose is a fraud.He is not suppose to be in the meeting.Aluko never saw Fayose in the picture.According to another report by Punch...Aluko decided to rush out of the meeting when he found out that Fayose came in and used SMS to call the press.While Aluko was rushing out ,Fayose followed him ,arranged that Alukos wife be ceased and stylishly forced the man to face the press.

A fresh twist crept into the reconciliation between Governor Ayodele Fayose and a former Secretary of the Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party, Tope Aluko, on Tuesday, when the latter denied reconciling with Fayose.

This came barely 48 hours after Fayose and Aluko jointly addressed journalists at the VIP section of the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, on Sunday.

Last year, Aluko alleged that Fayose, with support from former President Goodluck Jonathan, rigged the governorship election held on June 21, 2014.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Lagos, Aluko, however, alleged that he was under duress when he addressed journalists in company with Fayose.

He added that the event was stage-managed by Fayose and some PDP chieftains to look like a reconciliation.

He said, “I received a call from two senior members of the party. One of them is a serving senator and the other is a former governor. I was told to come to the Eko Hotel to meet with them and I went in company with my wife.

“We were halfway into the discussion, which they tagged as a ‘Peace parley’. It should be noted that no reference was made to the 2014 (Ekiti) governorship election and the aftermath, including my revelation to the public about the way the election was rigged in favour of Ayo Fayose.

“I was shocked to see Governor Fayose walk into the meeting at this point. I won’t want to bore you with the drama and the face-off that ensued between me and Governor Fayose at the meeting.

“It is worthy of note that it was at this point that my wife barged into the meeting to inform me that she noticed the presence of pressmen downstairs, saying, ‘there is a problem’, but Fayose interrupted her and said, ‘Madam, there is no problem’.

Aluko said he stood by all the allegations he had earlier made about former President Goodluck Jonathan assisting Fayose to rig the 2014 Ekiti governorship election with the provision of security operatives and funds.

He also said he played along after sensing that his life might be in danger, but he refused to disclose the source of danger.

Aluko declined to mention the names of the PDP chieftains, whom he said invited him to the hotel.

He added, “My wife insisted and said she overheard them saying that they were called back through an SMS from Governor Fayose, saying ‘come back because T. K. Aluko is around’.

“At that point, I became enraged and decided to leave the place but I noticed Governor Fayose rushing after me downstairs in a Gestapo manner. My wife was already fidgeting and was almost crying, and suddenly, I could not find her around me.

“Immediately, I realised that I needed to obey to Governor Fayose’s instruction of facing the press because of the safety of my family.

“One fact remains clear, at no time did I, Temitope Aluko, refute anything I had earlier said before Nigerians and the whole world about the manipulations that characterised the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.

“You will also notice the several counter allegations by Fayose and his media team that none of them has refuted all I have said, rather, the attack has been on the messenger and not the message.”

Apologising to Nigerians for being naïve, Aluko said, “I will like to apologise to all Nigerians that, perhaps, accepting the invitation was a tactical error.

“However, I wouldn’t have accepted to attend the meeting in the first place if I had known that Ayo Fayose would be in attendance. I only chose to attend in order to honour the party leaders’ invitation.

“Finally, I need to emphasise that all that transpired at the Eko Hotel on that fateful day was an organised propaganda to stain my image and malign my integrity.”

But a statement from the Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the state government would not dignify Aluko with a response.

Olayinka also described Aluko as ‘a perjurer and an unstable character, who speaks from both sides of his mouth’.

He said, “As far as we are concerned, the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, which would be willing to accommodate even Judas Iscariot or the notorious armed robber, Lawrence Anini, (if he were to be alive), could keep Temitope Aluko in its fold – that is their business.

“We don’t want a Judas in the PDP and anywhere near the government and that has been made clear.”

A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Soludo, has accused former President Goodluck Jonathan of running the apex bank during his presidency the way former Ugandan President, Idi Amin, ran his country...
n an interview in the current Business Edition of The Interview, Soludo said it was regrettable that in spite of the bank’s statutory independence, it continues to be a victim of high-wire politics, often “electrocuting” the bank’s leadership.

According to him, “imagine a scenario where a president can order the CBN to create an intervention fund for national stability and CBN literally ‘prints’ say, N3 trillion, and doles it out cash to the Presidency to prosecute an election campaign or for just about anything he fancies. It is a scary thought.

“We are going down a dangerous path that ruins the economy. I don’t know any other country where such is tolerated, except perhaps what I watched in a movie about Idi Amin and his governor of central bank.

“Recent revelations regarding the ‘arms-gate’ (revelations involving former NSA Sambo Dasuki on $2.1 billion arms scam) and the apparent abuse of the CBN as ATM by the presidency should get reasonable people thinking.”

The local government election conducted in Ekiti State on Saturday recorded an unprecedented low turnout of voters.

Unlike the 2014 governorship election and the general elections conducted earlier in the year, voters stayed away from the local government election in virtually all units, wards and council areas visited by reporters.

Only the electoral officials, security officers and agents of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were present at all the polling units opened for voting at the election.

The presence of only PDP agents at the election was contrary to the claim of Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) that five parties are participating in the election.
The five parties on the ballot are PDP, United Progressives Party (UPP), KOWA, African Peoples Alliance (APA) and Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).

In Ado, the state capital, Ikere, Ikole, Otun, Ido, Ifaki, Omuo, Ise, Igede, Aramoko, Okemesi, Ayetoro, Iworoko, Iyin, Efon and Ilawe, voter apathy was apparent with residents staying indoors while other were seen drinking at beer joints .

Some presiding officers confirmed the low turnout of the electorate at their units with the polling officials and security agents idle.

The directive of EKSIEC that voting should commence at 1.00 pm after accreditation, expected to have taken place between 8.00 am and 12 noon was violated in many polling stations in the state capital where voting had commenced as early as 10.00 am.

In Ado Ward 9, Unit 008 opposite Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), only 20 voters have been accredited out of 1,450 voters registered at the unit at about 11.30 pm.

At Unit 006, Ajitadidun Ward 9 in Ado, only 16 voters have been accredited and voted out of 1,471 whose names appear on the register as at 11.41 am while 18 voters out 1,046 have been accredited and cast their votes as at 11.49 am.

At Unit 016 Ward 5 in Okeyinmi area in Ado, only 11 voters have accredited and voted out of 626 registered voters as at 11.17 am.

EKSIEC Chairman, Justice Kayode Bamisile, absolved his agency from blame over early voting recorded in many parts of Ado and absence of agents of the four other political parties cleared to participate at the poll.

Speaking on the poor turnout, Bamisile said: “It is very easy to take the horse to the river but you cannot force the horse to drink water”.

Governor Ayo Fayose described the council poll as free, fair and credible contending that the turnout was ‘impressive’. Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Fayose also commended voters for turning out to cast their votes.

He said: “The information we are getting have been impressive. The turnout was impressive. In some places, the turnout were very impressive , while people came out late in some areas. But the turnout has been impressive.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) hailed voters for boycotting the local government poll saying “ the people behaved honourably for staying away from the election boycotted by all political parties except the PDP”.

Berating Fayose for holding the election despite pendency of the election case at the Court of Appeal, the party also accused the governor of wasting N300 million of taxpayers’ money on an election that would not stand the test of legality.

Meanwhile, the gubernatorial candidate of the Accord Party in the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State, Kole Ajayi, a lawyer, has condemned the weekend local government election.

He said the poll was fraudulently organised by Fayose, who understood that the exercise was patently illegal, but still went ahead to conduct the poll after allegedly voting N300m, half of which would be misapplied for selfish reasons.

Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress are working assiduously to remove him from office.

Fayose, however, says he’s ready for them, stressing that the people of Ekiti are with him in spite of the federal government’s plan to use the military panel to upturn his election.

In an interview with Vanguard, Fayose said: “Ekiti people gave me free mandate to govern them. I am the first person in Ekiti to be governor twice. I am the first Nigerian and Nigerian politician to defeat two incumbent governors at two different attempts.”
“I have records when they talk they say I wore particular type of cloth what is their business. The people that I govern are very happy with me whether I wear tattered clothes. They are hypocrites, they do something else in dark corners and another one in the open.”

“They made attempt to make my swearing in impossible but the people rose against them, the went to ensure I was impeached but the people rose against them, they made attempt to the Supreme Court to stop me they were stopped; they are at it again, they want to use military panel.
The international community, the Americans phoned to congratulate me personally and they wrote, it is on their website where they recommended Ekiti election for all elections in Nigeria, the conduct, the handling by the military. They recommended it for the 2015 elections.”

Furthermore, Fayose said he’s not afraid for his safety, hence the absence of security operatives in his convoy.

The governor said he has the protection of God, and as such, any government that tackles him will ultimately fail.

“My brother, forget that one! This year I am 55, I will be 56 next year. If I die today, I have five sons; they will do a big party. People will console them that your father lived an exemplary life, he was governor twice.”

“They will still move on and enjoy my wealth. Those things we fear most happen to us eventually. I am not a coward, life is not about how many years you live but what you stand to represent. Within or outside Ekiti, I don’t use siren.

I don’t carry policeman or DSS about, I don’t need them. If you come you are only wasting your time because I have nothing to hide, there is even no money for anybody to steal.”

“I stood to fight all through the eight years and as God would have it look, I left October 16, 2006, I came back October 16, 2014. That is instructive that God is with me. The very day the Buhari-administration faces me, his government will come down.

Any government that confronts me will come down, it will not stand the test of time. Why would you muscle everybody because we are opposed to you. I am in PDP and will never go to any other party.”

Fayose also made a snide remark at former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, whom he described as having lost relevance in the scheme of things.

“I am Ayo Fayose, I was governor without a godfather, I was there for three and half years before Obasanjo took me out. I am back now but Obasanjo is an expired man today, and I am still making impacts.

He is expired, he goes to Aso Rock to go and beg every week, prostrating. How many times did Buhari visited him when he was president in Aso Rock? Buhari did not step Aso Rock throughout not even in Council of State meeting.”
