Christianity EtcRe: How Did God Reveal Himself to You? by exu(op): 3:38pm On Sep 09, 2005
I know I have a liver because it has been scientifically proven, several times...that was a bad analogy my friend.

However, the only thing we know regarding God is that his existence is a possibility...therefore all the claims made as to God's benevolent, omnipotent character are, at best, guess work...

Just because it's recorded in a book does not mean that it's true...
Christianity EtcRe: How Did God Reveal Himself to You? by exu(op): 11:20am On Sep 09, 2005
People keep bringing up the 'Bible', but as far as I'm aware wasn't the Bible written by manhuh

Isn't everything man made, by nature, error strewn (according to 'God's word')huh

P.s.
Do you guys ever ask yourself who it was/the type of people who wrote the books that make up the Biblehuh

Also, the position that religion/religious leaders held at the time the Bible was writtenhuh?
Christianity EtcRe: How Did God Reveal Himself to You? by exu(op): 11:31pm On Sep 08, 2005
Some interesting answers: Knowledge of 'God' from the day you were born.

Without meaning to cause offence, if that were true, there would be no need for organized religion, people would know the truth.

As for 'God' being all around us, well that may or may not be true. But we all know that the world is not all good, and yet 'God' created everything, including those deemed responsible for the evil we see.

When did you accept in your heart (and mind) that your idea of God exists?

When did you realise what his characteristics are, and how did you know?

I'm just curious.  Thanks for reading.
FamilyRe: Your Child Says, "Daddy, Mommy, I'm Gay!" by exu(m): 12:09pm On Sep 03, 2005
you can't stop your child from being gay...

if they are and you keep drumming it into them that it's wrong/disgusting then they will only end up hating you, or themselves, probably both...

a good parent loves their children no matter what...

a good parent teaches their children to learn to live with differences within people...
Christianity EtcRe: When a Pastor Uses 'Gods Money' For a Life of Luxury by exu(op): 11:29am On Sep 03, 2005
it's true, i'm not a fan of religion in general....

personally i find it funny that people tend to look down on traditional beliefs when they, at least, appear to have some natural logic to them...

but as to my comments and questions on christianity i'm only looking for the truth...which is what religion should be about...

i mean, doesn't anger you to see people misappropriating funds so blatantlyhuh
Christianity EtcWhen a Pastor Uses 'Gods Money' For a Life of Luxury by exu(op): 11:18am On Sep 03, 2005
As many of you will probably be attending church tomorrow, I myself will not.

But i'm curious, when the pastor asks for collection to help him do 'the Lord's work' and then you see him leave the church grounds in a large luxury car...and then drive on to his large luxurious home does that make you feel a tad bit silly? uncomfortable evenhuh

Just curious, because i can remember going to church in Calabar (5 years or so ago) and the minister had people dancing to the altar so as to give to 'God'...this happened several times during the service...

Just curious to see what, in your opinion, is the glue that holds Nigeria together, specifically the northern and southern regions?

What do you think it is that holds Nigeria together?
HealthRe: Smoking in Public: Should It Be Banned? by exu(m): 1:26pm On Aug 29, 2005
@ guardian, the non-smoker shouldn't have to tell the smoker to smoke elsewhere, it should be the norm...

if people want to pollute their own bodies then that is their choice...

PoliticsRe: Family Planning and the Nigerian Government by exu(op): 12:01pm On Aug 28, 2005
you guys seem to have misintepreted my use of the phrase 'family planning'; what this means is when people (couples) sit down and discuss how many children they plan to have, so as to avoid hardship and chaos...

china, is not what i had in mind when i mentioned 'family planning'; a term that usually implies that the 'family' involved plans (as peter did mention) how many children they should rear, and not the government...

peter, you said that nobody could love your family like you but there are a great number of people who are in effect living beyond their means by having more children than they can afford to look after, which leads to suffering and difficulties for all involved...if a father cannot afford to send all his children to school is that 'love'huh
PoliticsRe: Separation of Religion and Government by exu(m): 11:03pm On Aug 27, 2005
personally i don't agree with the idea of organised religion, simply for the fact that every religion, bar hinduism, says that the next religion is inferior, this in turn breeds the hatred that you see throughout the world today...

people also forget that most religions came about at a time when 'politics' wasn't as it is today...religion was politics, it was a way of dividing the people, oppressing people and generally keeping the people in their place...

religion and politics should always be kept separate, no one should ever have the beliefs of someone else enforced upon them...

p.s.
i can't believe that someone attempted to use israel as an example of a functioning 'religious' state...

israel was founded as a 'jewish' homeland, to the detriment of the 'native' arabs, who were not jewish; this has created one of the world's biggest problems (for those of you don't watch the news)...
PoliticsFamily Planning and the Nigerian Government by exu(op): 6:59pm On Aug 27, 2005
Is the government currently doing anything to actively slow down the ridiculously high population growth in nigeria??

Are people being encouraged to plan how many children they can have based on their means and the needs of the greater communityhuh

this thread made me happy (it's always good to see people proud of their nigerian heritage), and sad (i don't speak any nigerian languages) at the same time...

keep up the good work...

Clearly the separation of church and state means nothing.

@exu

In this temporary world, there are lots of questions we need to ask but there could be only few answers that we need to know. GOD is enough ! All I know is I believe in the Bible and I believe there's a God... Have you ever thought why Jesus Christ died on the cross ? Think of it now ! You might be one of the lost sheep... and He is waiting to return to His care.
yes the world is temporary and there are questions that should be asked...

you say that 'God is enough' but for me only the truth is enough...but who/what is 'God'huh How do you know who God ishuh Is it because someone told you that 'this is who He is', and you believe themhuh there are too many inconsistencies within the christian message (especially) but also islam (from what i've read) to accept either as the truth...

from where i'm standing religion is a man mad construct full of inaccuracies and mistakes, like all things man made...a series of lies made in order to cover up more lies...

i apologise if i've offended anyone but questions should be asked...
Christianity EtcRe: Why People Believe the Bible and Other Holy Texts? by exu(op): 6:45pm On Aug 25, 2005
the bible praises the people of berea because they did not just accept the word from their leaders but sat down to verify the veracity of their suggestions.
that's great but there are a lot of people who follow religion like headless sheep, simply because someone told them that 'this is the truth'...

just wondering if you knew if the very existence of jesus christ has been proven...as far as i know 'jesus' is just a collection of legends made into one supreme man/god type character...

i realise that there are some people who will denounce me as the 'enemy' or the 'evil one' but these are questions that everyone should ask...
Christianity EtcRe: Why People Believe the Bible and Other Holy Texts? by exu(op): 4:12pm On Aug 25, 2005
that's great (not that it even vaguely answered my question) but if these texts and the messages they convey are lies (for want of a kinder word) then isn't dangerous to society and to the children/vulnerable/needy members of the community who have these view points enforced upon themhuh

i mean it's not like these scriptures were written in places where there was no culture of documenting events...yet there is a complete dearth of corroborative data for a number of the important 'events' recorded within the 'holy' texts...my question is whyhuh?
Christianity EtcWhy People Believe the Bible and Other Holy Texts? by exu(op): 12:32pm On Aug 25, 2005
A question about the bible, the koran and other 'holy' texts, and I guess mankind's religion in general.

Why do people believe, almost without question, the things written in said books and reiterated by preachers or pastors ([some of whom may be] charlatans) the world over to be the 'gospel' truth?

I don't mean to cause offence, but ...
