If he's a businessman he should set up an actual business as opposed to a masquerading as a pastor and essentially stealing funds... But then again, this has always been the way of the church (and almost every other religion for that matter) and it's leaders... The Roman Catholic Church preaches humility and charity yet all it's leaders live in unnecessary luxury...same with most other 'branches' of the church... |
I've noticed that there are some people claiming the natural disasters currently killing tens of thousands of mostly poor people is a "sign" from "God" that the end is nigh... Does anyone here believe this and how does this relate to the notion of "God" being an all loving and thoroughly compassionate being? |
I have to say that I think it is a right... |
The problem with Nigeria is highlighted in this post... People calling on 'God' instead of being proactive... |
Elaborate on 'questionable activities'... Thanks... |
'Bad people' still exist within religious communities so why would they not exist in this instance ![]() |
Yeah, but there are guys- guys who are used to getting their own way, who, when they have their advances spurned, at least try and hide their dissappointment...and they tend not to throw a tantrum in public either... |
would the world be a better place ?if everyone genuinely thought that there was only one 'god' (or 'allah') and everyone worshipped that said deity in the exactly same way would mankind suffer an easier existence ? |
Get physically ANGRY when a guy isn't interested ![]() When the tables are turned and a girl spurns the advances of a man, the man tends to accept and move on...but a lot a of women seem to take it very badly when they're rejected. |
I haven't decided anything, these are people who've dedicated their lives to scientific research who are saying that a culture of religious dependence is also one where crime thrives... p.s. Being religious is rarely about God; it's often about people maintaning a self righteous, pious, pompous and often hypocritical image...from my personal experience of course... |
I'm not sure that America is the best example of ethnic diversity, however: The different ethnicities in America were allowed to fuse together naturally, at their own pace. Nigeria is an artificial construct with people forced together by an ignorant and self serving power; 'Nigerians' were united in their distrust of the British, rather than their love for one another, once the British left what was left ![]() The different communities in the America, have a lot in common for the most part (with the exception of African-Americans)...They are all descendants of immigrants or immigrants themselves, who left their homelands to seek a better life. They sought to free themselves of the oppression that existed in the 'Old world'. The emphasis is/was on economic development and freedom of religion. There is also the fact that for the most part most of the US population is of European stock with a common Christian based ethic, if not religion, Nigeria is far more diverse. |
Societies worse off 'when they have God on their side' by Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent RELIGIOUS belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today. Instead of completely abandoning your homeland wouldn't it be better if you found people who have similar views to you and then sought to change things, on a local level or using the available channels... If everyone did this then the country would be in far better shape...I realise that politics can be messy in Nigeria but the only way forward is for people to be bold(er). |
If for some reason you feel that a finger could become trapped, then yes, it makes sense to remove a ring... Or if you're worried that the ring itself could be damaged in some way... |
Before Europeans felt the need to spread Christianity, worldwide, did those who died all suffer the fate of hell ![]() How were these people to know who, or what, God and 'His message' was when they had no access to the Bible or missionaries? Again, what do you guys think happened to your ancestors who didn't know Christ? |
I'm glad to see him gaining the experience (and respect) he deserves...as far as I'm concerned it can only be good for Nigerian football (in the future). |
Like they say... Seeing is believing... |
I'm just asking for facts here; people keep talking about things (that supposedly happened/are happening) without backing them up with facts... Nostradamus said the world was going to end, in 2000... Countless others have said the world was due to end prior and they've all been proved wrong...now of course we know the world will come to an end but the (so called) 'signs' listed are nothing of the sort... |
Well, obviously every day we endure is another day closer to the end; of our own personal life or the Earth as a planet... But all this scaremongering is kind of disappointing, I thought you guys were better than this... People keep saying that the rate of occurance is higher (of said 'signs') can anyone find some stats to back this up I'm pretty sure that cases of murder were a lot higher in the medieval ages than they are now... I'm also pretty sure that there have been times when war has been a way of life in contrast with today's world...(look at any period around the time of the collapse of an empire) Famine was much more of a problem worldwide in say the 17th century than it is now... And in ancient Greece homosexuals were revered, and not simply 'tolerated' as they are today... |
vexxxy, those things have been happening since before Jesus... |
Must I spell it out? Meaning that there have been paranoid scaremongers since the dawn of man kind claiming that we are all doomed to meet a horrible death, en masse...And they've often used the reasons listed as the cause, 'signs'... I'm trying to take this discussion seriously, but in all honesty, it's a struggle... In short, if the reasons listed were really indications of the coming of the end of the Earth then none of us would be here now... |
We've always had wars... We've always had famine... People have been killing people since forever... Homosexuals have been around since the beginning of time... |
So what you are guys are saying is that an all loving, all powerful being created 'evil'/'sin' in order to maintain balance within his little experiment a.k.a earth....good stuff... |
this thread made me laugh... good work rufus (iii)... ahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaaha |
So what are you saying (goodguy)? That 'evil' existed in heaven but was only introduced to earth when when Lucifer arrived? |
Just curious to hear what you guys think... So, who created 'evil'? |
I apologise if I've put you in an akward position Seun... As for you Miss Vexxy...how can you possibly say that either of those statements has been 'taken out of context' (isn't that what dishonest politicians say when they've been exposed?)... There is a lot of ambiguity within the Bible, but those are two of the clearer verses... |
Here's one of many (and I mean, many) contradictions in the Bible... ISA 14:21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. DEU 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. Like Seun said the Bible was written by people who were either powerful or looking to curry favour from those in power...There was very little, if any, difference between politics and religion in ancient civilizations: those in positions of authority claimed to receive their power directly from 'God' as opposed to the people... |
Man cannot not believe. Its innate in us.Please could you clarify this statement... Are you saying that God is innate in us? Or, are you saying the need to 'believe' is innate? Thanks. |
