FamilyRe: Brother Battles Married Sister Over Landed Property Citing Igbo Tradition by ezeagu(m): 4:54pm On Mar 04, 2017
Mindfulness:
Look at this greedy i.diot. She bought the land and you think it belongs to you? You are a crook.
And then they say that 'despite civilization' some rules still apply. Are you telling us that these rules are barbaric? grin

Morons!
That "civilisation" thing is just the way ignorant Nigerians talk when they mean modernity.

The bold is criminal, no brother will do such a thing. It is very bad and not igbo customary tradition. No igbo customary court will enforce that. Is he her father? The point that they are trying to make here is that, if she bought ancestral land, then she has erred. The article does not specify the location of the land, i am guessing that the author is being mischievous.
Yeah, I guess that's where the meat of the matter is, the story doesn't look real to me though, but I thought it would be good to explain anyway.
FamilyRe: Brother Battles Married Sister Over Landed Property Citing Igbo Tradition by ezeagu(m): 1:10pm On Mar 04, 2017
unstableaswater:
U can only reform things that are not working or broken. People that visit the east say it is sparsely built, that is becos daughters marry off without land.
If u give them land, they will build on it and return to occupy it with their children. The entire east will become compact like yoruba land. I dont see anything wrong with igbo customary law on inheritance. This story we read here is either fabricated or distorted.
Women buy land in the village and east and nobody confiscate them. They have not told us the whole story or wat is actually going on here.
Even if we must give them free land in the East as reform, then it should be in the township and Cities in the East, not ancestral land, we use that to keep records of patrilineal lineage.
Yes, obviously when it comes to ancestral land the ancestral tradition holds supreme, but my understanding was that the brother here was going with anything that the lady bought while in her fathers home, so even if a plot of land was bought in Enugu township, I think for today that is extreme considering the liberalisation that's already taken place.

FamilyRe: Brother Battles Married Sister Over Landed Property Citing Igbo Tradition by ezeagu(m): 11:59am On Mar 04, 2017
In today's globalised view, yes, this seems extreme in terms of women's liberties, but if you try to understand the tradition first before commenting obvious things you feel you have to comment you will start to understand the reason such a tradition exists. Igbo culture is patrilineal and the villages marry women outside, this means that most Igbo villages are primarily based on decent from one man although some people join sometimes. This means that married women in the community are always from outside the community and naturalized in the place. Daughters and their properties and co are under the protection and guardianship of the father, they are like this until marriage. Since daughters only marry out and their possessions and co will be inherited by their children who are part of the mans family, the tradition in the past made sure that family lands do not fall into the hands of foreign communities. Also the woman's husband is naturally supposed to provide her with things such as land for farming and housing in the past.

Today there has not been a reform made probably because it benefits men, but there obviously should be a reform seeing as we do not live in a time where women are completely or mostly uprooted from their birth families and we aren't in the time of communal warfare.

Lemme be honest with you..

yorubas have seen civilization more than any other tribe and will never compromise on standard and safety. Innoson can keep welding motor parts as if it's wheel barrow he's producing with no prototype or models.

Sooner or later those companies he's stealing their concept will sue him, then he'll know whatsup

I trust abok.iis, they fear ibo pass anything.. they'll rather trek than board any vehicle made by ibos
The majority of your people still live in slums and backward hamlets so what is this civilisation you're on about?

These are Ibos. They have a unique hair styling, facial feature and bone structure, including body adornments as the guys in next picture holding human hands severed and ready for boiling when they were caught by British missionaries.

This is no rumor or myth.
Only if you'd spend this much time you spend on googling Belgian-Congo genocide pictures on trying to figure out how to get Illorin back, ah well.

No, it is not inferiority complex, migration from northern Africa shows that Hausa/Fulani are related to Arabs while Igbos shows similarities of Jewish negro traits which is also found in Ethiopia black Jews. Yoruba on the other side migrated from Sudan.
This is a proven fact from archeological studies.

PoliticsRe: Will Nigeria Ever Become A Developed Country by ezeagu(m): 2:26am On Feb 13, 2017
Litmus:
The question is a false one since there is no such thing as a Developed Nation. All nations are developing. If you mean will Nigeria ever attain the standards of some of the more advanced Nations of the West currently, then the answer is Yes all things being equal. By then, those Western Nations will have progressed to more advanced levels, all things being equal.
It only seems like Nigeria is advancing but only a few generation behind the west because of foreign innovations and things left behind from the colonials, but that's not the case, if it were then Nigeria would already have steady electricity and pipe borne water, something that was standard to most industrialised countries well before the generation Nigeria thinks it's trapped in (1970s).
CultureRe: Japanese Culture Share So Much With Igbo Culture by ezeagu(op): 6:30pm On Feb 05, 2017
igbodefender:
@OP
Kudos for this educative thread. The obvious ancient cultural linkages between Igbos and Japanese need to be investigated.
That's the complete opposite objective of the thread. As written in the opening post, the thread serves as a demonstration as to how any two cultures in the world can share similar characteristics, norms and values despite being hundreds to thousands of miles apart and having no shared history at all. People can use these similarities to form any kind of k-legged theory of origin or relation between some unrelated groups.

It's a direct response to all the far-fetched 'origin theories' surrounding Igbo people, whether it's Jews or Hebrews or Israelites or Israeli's or Egyptians or the "Ancient Biafra Kingdom". I can do a similar compelling comparison with Ancient Greece, some native American groups and people in Papua New Guinea, unless you're a follower of the late Catherine Acholonu who touted Igboland to be "Eden" then you'd see the how this exposes the problem of unsupported origin theories.

A lot of people on this thread seem to have just jumped into the thread without reading the first post.

Kanu may not be very smart, i agree. He is not playing the game well. There are thousands of highly functional igbo social engineers and great political thinkers in ivy league universities of europe and america that would turn his movement into something much more than a child's play.
But he is smarter than a lot of Nigerians including you. Atleast, he is smart enough to know when he sees a hopeless situation. That is much more than i can say for the overwhelming proportion of Naijerians including you.
Anybody chanting one naijeria is not intelligent, or may even be suffering from a sort of psychosis. Atleast only a psychotic individual would be chanting one naijeria in the midst of intolerable social entropy and madness.
The moment i see any individual telling me one naijeria either online or offline, i just lose interest in whatever the nitwit has to say.
Those people will not waste their time because this movement makes no sense without any sense of plan or a sign that the Igbo political climate has changed to where a Biafra would not simply be a mini Nigeria. Igbo people are in Nigeria supporting the like of Orji Kalu, Uba, Diezani and the likes. We don't even know what the proposed Biafra is comprised of, now the leader has randomly turned hasidic.
