Ibo land will never prosper the way you people are configured. It is a mental thing. A wall. Look at the emptiness in this exercise. Very pathetic. You have pulled a map , drawn lines and insulted Akwa Ibom people and maybe some Ogonis. What do they put in your food that make you reason like soulless robotic automatons?. Please get serious and stop parochial rubbish. I wish your evil ugly named Republic still birth. There is no place for it in God's creation and you know it.
Are you from any of the communities near the Imo River?

Ok so you want to dredge past Ijaw and Akwa Ibom land with monstrous environmental consequences for the indigenous people of those areas so as to keep your poor landlocked Biafra supplied.
Even the way the thread started is just typical. Just popping a map and drawing lines and voila Biafra port.
Everything simple because the other ethnic groups are stupid and they escorted Ibos to this world only to minister to their fulfilment.
If your house is not on the wooded banks of the Imo river, then kindly buzz off now.

It would require cooperation with Rivers/Akwa Ibom as well.

Would you let your child be taught maths, science, literature, etc in Igbo? Some Ghanaian minister is suggesting that English instruction hinders locals in education. Would you be okay with sending your child to school that does that in Igbo with English subject presented as a foreign language?

Considering that the cost of building Super Highways and rail tracks is much cheaper that that involved in building artificial shipping lanes, and you begin the get the general Idea. The only other thing needed after building a port on the banks of the dredged Imo in Ukwa East is a 32 km Highway. Very short distance and direct. That is about 18 minutes on the road for cars..... And lets say 25 minutes on the road for heavy duty vehicles

Any attempt and dredging further inland than that will be pushing it. The Thames is not the Aba River, my brother.
It's a canal, not a river. The canal frees up traffic and can be used for small trade and alternate transport.

A Canal links two bodies of water, What will be the water body at the opposite end of the Aba canal? The Aba township surely doesn't look like a sea to me cheesy
I have given you the best choice available. Now, All you have to do is build a partnership with AKSG and RSG to get this done, if you lots are rilly serious about it, that is.
What do you mean? There's enough drainage in the area and enough rivers to channel into the canal, plus the Imo River is linked on the other side of Aba as well.
BusinessRe: Can The Imo River Take (large) Ships? by ezeagu(op): 6:32pm On Oct 30, 2015
Perhaps the Aba River can be made into a canal.

is it only ibos that are living along the coast line of dis imo river?
The river bank is almost all mangrove and forest.

scholes0:
They can't create a new river from the Aba river, because the feeding headwaters from higher ground further inland will continue to contribute the same volume, either the Aba river channel is widened/deepened or not, it will just become a very wide gully similar to the grand canyon (Wide and deep but waterless). you get the drift?
The best thing to do is dredge the Imo which already has enough volume to Ukwa East Local Government, and then convey goods from there into and from the Aba metropolis via 4*4 (Or less preferably 2*2) Highways. Rail can also be considered later.
I see what you mean.

By my calculations the closest area of Abia state to the mouth of the Imo Estuary is about 40kms or 25 Miles
Egypt built and completed the second Suez Canal of similar distance: 22 Miles within A YEAR (Aug 2015-Aug 2015), with the help of International contractors for a cost of $8.4 Billion.
So yes, it is possible..... cheesy
I also factored in the bends in the river. This is definitely possible. I believe this should be seriously considered by some "south east" (Igbo) investors and basically creating a new river on the Aba river which is like only a stream now, can you imagine a port in Aba directly connected to the coast.

Deltagiant pointed out that the Port of New Orleans is reached through a river that's in a port that is further away from New Orleans, than some towns are from Abia State. I'm wondering, is the coast and the river itself suitable enough to take large container ships or even bigger to deliver goods directly to southern Abia State. There can be a proposed port around Azumini and an artificial lake similar to the Volta in Ghana plus river widening could be part of a proposed project if parties are serious enough.

Politics'Stateism' Among Igbo People by ezeagu(op): 1:32pm On Oct 29, 2015
I have noticed that these 20 year old states, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, and even Delta and Rivers have become great stumbling blocks towards unity among the Igbo people. People have come to take these states as their ethnic identity, even though these arbitary boundaries were only created by Nigeria 20 years ago. I have noticed this 'stateism' is especially heightened among Anambra and Imo individuals for whatever reason. It would be better to fight or bicker over authentic ethnic identities that have existed for hundreds of years like Urata or Aniedo or EzeChima clan, than to fight over imposed divisions. Let's remember this so that these very recent and illusory divisions do not become the downfall of an ancient people.

If you show that South Sudan's human development was even close to Igboland's then maybe this is a valid case study:

There's also the fact that informal economy is not taxed. Anambra State alone could feed the whole of Nigeria off of trade I believe.

But in your map you excluded some Igbo clans. Like I said, we have a history in Nigeria, and as such trying to draw a map of "Igboland" from Nigeria will be ALWAYS fail and produce inaccurate maps some of which our enemies use against us in future.
You should be deeper in thought than this.
The map is not failure, it's a speculation about areas and their political ties. We all know where Igboland is.

Sir, please tell us WHEN a referendum was conducted in the areas. Once you produce the result of the referendum, your map will start to make sense if the result is reflected there.
For now, your speculative map is doing damage to even Igbo aspirations.
I wonder why some of you guys can't think along these lines.
I'm not looking at a non-Igbo culture based country.

carnegiefan:
I shall continue to say that any attempt to carve out "Igbo nation" from the map of Nigeria will be mistaken because of our history.
These maps do more harm than good.
It is like drawing a picture of God. You will be wrong no matter how hard you try, even if you have met God face to face.
Wisdom demands that we desist from trying to "draw God".
It is easier to draw the map of Biafra and simply add or subtract from it, WHEN THE TIME COMES, not now.
I don't understand what you mean. If you're talking about the IPOB mirage of "Biafra" which is consequently a mini-Nigeria and of which it's non-Igbo members have severally renounced, then this isn't the right thread.

Donarozzi:
Ezeagu, I cannot believe that you drew the map of Igboland and shaded out some portions questioning whether or not they would agree to join the Igbo country (Refer to your first map on this topic, and please make the right corrections immediately). The integrity and wholeness of Igboland is non-negotiable. Igboland is one indivisible entity. In the event of a referendum, the entire Igbo people will participate irrespective of their geopolitical regions. So, a referendum is based on the indigenous Igbo people and Igboland, and not on geopolitical regions. Secondly, Igboland is incomplete without Bonny and Opobo islands. So, make further corrections to your map by including Bonny and Opobo. Thanks.
Bonny and Opobo people identify as Igbani from what I have seen.

Chiwude:
Let it remain a speculation. Do you even know the gravity of damage that map has caused, in the psyche of our blood brothers from the so-called South-South. I think its time we start conducting a paternity test in the South-East to know who is who amongst us. The bulk of your thread has always been divisive since I joined nairaland. The same goes for Afam4Eva and the two musketeers Chino and Abagworo who shamelessly expose their dirty linens in public.
Unu bu ndi n'enye ndi Yoruba, ike eji akpa dike n' etiti umuigbo. Unu ga kpachakwara anya, tupu egbe eli'gwe gbabuo unu ncha ebe ahu. Tufiakwa unu, umu ogbanje.
Worse has happened before, this is not the worst thing to happen to Igbo unity. At least we can have people from those sides come out and say where they stand once and for all. And my threads aren't divisive, they simply tell the cold hard truth. Posters like Abagworo are much more realistic about Igboland than many that throw insults online all the time and think that is nationalism.

Of course this isn't all of Igboland combined as a large chunk of the Igbo indigenous lands and people are in Delta State and Rivers State, but what do you think, coupled with the high education attainment of the "south east" (a chunk of Igboland), is Nigeria holding Igboland back?
