PoliticsIs Nigeria Holding Back The 'South East'? Health Stats by ezeagu(op):
I was kind of thinking the average for Nigeria is really below average in Igboland so here are some statistics I've found online, these are some summarised graphics which are expounded on in the linked reports:

Am still waiting for an answer Ezeagu? Let me put you in your place, so that next time you wouldn't carry that your useless hand again to draw a useless map that would include your village.
You're actually vexing for nothing. The map is a speculation, and a good one at that. Nothing here says that Anioma or even any other part of Igboland wouldn't be part of Igboland, only that there are areas that are historically not as tied to 'east' as an Imo and an Abia for instance. To deny that is just to stick your head in the sand.

Looser political ties, not "losers".
PoliticsRe: So If Biafra Is Formed? by ezeagu(m): 11:29pm On Oct 28, 2015
I was thinking about this. Not to sound ethnocentric, but the 'south east', Igboland, actually buoys some of the human development statistics of Nigeria, counter balancing much of the north.

This is just a speculation, it's good that people are coming out to confirm their identity.

We don't know yet those of our kith and kin who would want to go with us. We should not be swayed by propaganda, championed by those who are hostile to us.
My point is that part of those hostile people are in the greenish areas of that map.

Then i guessed right; was another Nairaland gossip as usual.
I don't rely on nairaland gossip. I know a few of those communities very personally and where their political leanings are. People who argue about those lands are usually oblivious to the culture and history of those areas that are considered Igbo land sometimes. Consider the level of identification between people in Kwale and Owerri for example, despite the short distance.

Ngwaukwu1:
Your map is essentially based on arbitrary boundaries created by others for us. The boundaries were imposed on us by hostile tribes and there lackeys who view us as vanquished people. A generation ago our fathers were forced into a fratricidal war, in which they were outgunned and the outcome of which was that they ceded part of their ancestral lands to those who saw themselves as the victors of that war.

But we that have grown out of the rubble of that war, built lives out of the ashes and now stand proud, some of us a lot better off than the so called victors, do not agree with the boundaries. My brother we have seen the pictures of the war, the swollen and protruding stomach of our starving fathers, grounds littered with the bodies of the innocents slain just because they wanted to go their separate ways, and we the descendants of the survivors must make up our minds that no more shall we live as vanquished people. No more, shall we bend our backs and turn our cheeks in humiliation, allowing others to decide who we are and how we must live.

When the time comes, every piece of our ancestral lands on which the blood of our fathers and uncles and brothers and mothers were spilled; every piece of that land, will be reclaimed. So my brother, put away the map you have drawn. For though it is not your intention, that map insults the memory of over 2 million of our flesh and blood that were slain by the same people who see us as vanquished in war, and carve the boundaries of our inheritance for us.

My brother, put away this map, biko, and go back to your drawing board.
This isn't about the father lands that were fought for, this is about the lands and people who want to be in an Igbo world.

Those areas have known to have people who deny being Igbo and aren't as politically aligned with other Igbo people.

Let me take it town by town. How could anyone who said he's current with the ethnic politics of Nigeria doubt the resolve of Anioma towns as Asaba, Igbuzor, Ewulu, Akwukwu Igbo, Ogwashi, Nshiagu and their allies? Or Obigbo in Rivers state. The chances of the native of these towns voting yes to join a new country with their kins east of the Niger are even higher than some communities in the South East. This prognosis is highly misplaced. Did you personally conduct a field study of these commiunities or you just wrote drawing from the comments of a faceless forum?
The map is rough, but also very conservative.

What would a sovereign Igbo country look like today?

This map gives an idea of the 'solid' areas of Igbo political unity and the greenish areas are the looser or more questionable areas. In terms of connectivity, the Imo River is actually links the 'solid' areas of the community to the ocean via Ibeno.
CultureIs There A Need For A Standardised Igbo? by ezeagu(op): 8:28pm On Oct 28, 2015
A carry on from the last thread maybe, is there even a need for a Standard Igbo? Do people really use it for communicating to other dialect speakers in non-formal situations. People have fund ways to communicate without having to learn Igbo Izugbe, or Standard Igbo, but there's a suggestion that one form of Igbo needs to be the main Igbo, why is this?

Okrika people used to sell fish at Borokiri to Igbos, Ikwerre and other upland people. They come in canoes to sell and would paddle back to their villages. Over time they established camps along the coasts but the land inside remained Ikwerreland.

Dude, you guys should stop already. I am an igboman but I am shamed by the actions of you Biafra Lunatics.

You claim you are fighting for your sovereignty; so why force your identity on people that wouldn't want to be associated with you? Ikweres have said time and again that they are not igbos, we should respect that and move on. That they speak a version of igbo language doesn't make them igbo. Anyone can pick up any language, learn it and stick with it.

Please stop already.

TonyeBarcanista:
Is it not clear that the Eastern Railway at Diobu was formerly known as Iguocha and NOT the entire Portharcourt City? This is easy to comprehend.
Can't it be inferred that Iguocha, other Ikwerre farmlands/towns and Okrika Fishing camps makes up portharcourt? Is this not clear? So when did the whole PHC become Iguocha? Is Iguocha, a town in Diobu(as at then) now Igbo owned or Ikwerre owned?
For the upteenth time, PHC is not Iguocha or Igweocha and has never been. Parts of Portharcourt? Maybe but if the Ikwerres wants it renamed(their parts), it is between the RVSG, Ikwerre people and Okrika people
HopeAtHand
naijapips02:
why trade word with the zombies? they didn't see Diobu there, abi? So because the rail station was called iguocha, all PH is now igboland?
"Hughes found that the creek opposite Okrika Island was the continuation of the Bonny River and following it up he came to the literite cliffs on which was established a village Iguocha, and so Port Harcourt was born."

I swear, posts like this make me hate this fuc/king country all the more!

It becomes clearer by the day that there's a grand conspiracy right from when the war began to date to rewrite the history of Ndigbo and whittle down our influence in the area formerly known as the Eastern Region!

After now some fools (including some efulefu Igbo) will come up to me and ask me to join them in cheering for 'one Nigeria'!
Not only is the original site of Port Harcourt (not the Okrika parts) Ikwere land, the whole city exists solely because of the railway that carted away coal from Enugu city.
PoliticsRe: Frederick Lugard, 'Iguocha', And Historical References by ezeagu(op): 8:19pm On Oct 27, 2015
Let me just add that I believe the original name has actually been further distorted to 'Igwe Ocha' from it's Ikwere/Igbo name 'Igwu or Ugwu Ocha' meaning shimmering cliffs.

Frederick Lugard's, Governor-General of the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria, letter to Lewis Vernon Harcourt, 18 August 1913.

I have the honour to enclose for your information charts of the estuaries and rivers in the neighbourhood of the proposed port and terminus of the Eastern Railway at Diobu or more correctly Iguocha... In the absence of any convenient local name, I would respectfully ask your permission to call this Port Harcourt, and I anticipate, that, in the future, it will be one of the most important ports in the coast of West Africa...

Everyone in Nigeria is a prophet it seems.

Nigeria is not big enough to be split into 5 countries. 3 will do but 2 is better. Remember, not all dreams come to pass. Prophets saw dreams and visions of Jonathan winning the 2015 presidential election, but it all failed.
Liechtenstein, Singapore, Andorra, Kosovo. But then again I don't know how economically viable Nigerian parts are.
