I have always maintained that we Ndi Igbo should concentrate on having Biafra as an Igbo only country(excluding the Ikwerres pls). Y'all should stop being concerned about the well being of these our non-Igbo SS neighbours who betrayed us in the past & who will surely betray us again. Our blood could not have been continously shed all these years for Biafra and then, have these minorities come in to enjoy the fruits of our labor, after we've done all the hard work. Mbanu! Things simply don't work that way. I hate to see Ndi Igbo adding these people into the Biafra equation, thereby attracting unnecessary ridicule and insult to us. Have we ever stopped to ask ourselves, what use these people will be to us in Biafra? To be honest, these minorities will be nothing short of a liability and headache to us in Biafra. An Igbo only country called Biafra is the answer!
@Ezeagu, it's not just a few Ndi Igbo that are talking of Biafra. The truth is that 98% of Ndi Igbo want Biafra. I would also like to know your opinion on this Biafra issue, 'cause you've kind of been on the fence about it.
I believe that anything other than an Igbo country would probably be a failure. I also believe all these Biafra movements are confusing.

But I have never seen a Biafra protest in any non-Igbo land. The name I believe should go too.

First, they will be forcefully converted to Islam. Note that Igbo have been the only major Christian population in Nigeria, and the east.
The Igbo shields the east against forceful Islamization as is happening now in the middle belt.
Once Islamized, they become like northern minorities, at the killing whims and caprices of the Fulani overlords.
Cattle will finish off the rest of the farmlands left after oil pollution.
Soon there will be an Emir of each of those minority clans, and they can do nothing about it.
Stay in Nigeria will be pure HELL for any eastern minority.
Biafra is all about equality, and Christian type of freedom.
Even if this farfetched situation could happen, it should be the decision of those groups to stay in Nigeria. I even believe that it's messy to want a group of people who rejected you to join you when they have never shown any sense of a unified destiny with you. You'd just make the new country a mini Nigeria. I don't know why some people can't leave Ndi Mba Miri alone but are talking for them. It's very irritating, especially with some of the insults like in the comments posted.

PoliticsIs Biafra Igbo? by ezeagu(op): 2:05am On Oct 24, 2015
An apparent minority is pushing for secession of eastern Nigeria as Biafra, while the majority of the Igbo remain silent, and let's be honest, the silence is as a result of a people who would ideally like to be on their own but understandably do not want to invest in many different ways in something that may end up bad in also a variety of ways including a repeat of the 60s. The problem however is that not only is the movement very chaotic at the moment, but there is confusion as to where Biafra is. Many are saying that the whole of eastern Nigeria is Biafra, but I think this is really a mistake the Biafra secessionists are making. I believe that the area known as 'south south' are not as enthusiatic about a Biafra as the secessionists would like to believe. In fact all the major protests have taken place only in Igbo land, and particularly in the five Igbo states. And I'm sure some would say they know someone in Ogoja or someone from Calabar who joined them in protest somewhere, but to be honest these minute amount of people doesn't change the point that overwhelmingly the sentiment about seceding or a 'Biafra' has been and has been perceived as an Igbo thing. Check the names on any 'Biafra' message for example. I have encouraged an idea of an 'eastern' unity within Nigeria here before, but following from the sentiment that eveyone should respect themselves and the autonomy of others, it my deep belief, considering history even before the Nigeria-Biafra war, that the Igbo people, if there were ever a secession, should form a nation on their own, or at least a federation as a country like England in the United Kingdom. I believe the nature and goal of an Igbo person will continue to be misunderstood by anyone and I do not want a situation where an Igbo person will feel they are held back because they don't want to be seen as overdoing anybody.

All of these thoughts were solidifed by the recent writings of Alabo Abiye Akkio-Abbey here https://www.facebook.com/alaboabiye.akkioabbey/posts/10153267949980028 and the replies by people from his community, some I have attached.

How can we develop African architecture, or adopt some good practices to reduce building costs and also introduce some convenience. I am tired of this concrete craze, even for those who are building small houses like bungalows.

I've already suggested rammed earth which more advanced countries are slowly moving to. Also wood and recycled materials like plastics would not only be cheap but would visually break up the depressing cement look of buildings in Nigeria. For example when you look at a house in Nigeria it's just a box of cements, while

These are other buildings/renderings that were built with rammed earth and recyclable materials. It's funny because the idea of using mud and recyclable materials like ceramics is indigenous to Nigeria, but as I've said Nigerians/Africans do not think that anything of their is good enough, but that's simply ignorance and they'd rather build shabby imitations of various conflated European architectures from neo-Classical to Mediterranean.

CultureRe: Should Onitsha Igbo Be Igbo Izugbe? by ezeagu(op): 11:32pm On Oct 22, 2015
bigfrancis21:
Despite the presence of Igbo Izugbe, Onicha Igbo still takes a certain level of placement in Igboland. People readily admit to the sweet-sounding nature of the dialect when spoken. An example in this regard would be British English vs. American English or Nigerian English. Till today, Americans still trip when they hear the British accent spoken. I speak the accent fluently and sometimes in my office I switch to this accent and everybody in my office loves it. The assistant director, a lady in her late 40s, of my unit is British and each time she comes around I tease her in the accent and she loves it.

For the sound of it, Onicha Igbo still takes precedence in Nollywood Igbo music and also Igbo rap music. Too many times, I have seen Igbo musicians or rap artists from the south prefer to sing/rap in Onitsha Igbo or a mix of it with Igbo Izugbe. Truth be told, Onitsha Igbo does have this flavour to it totally lacking in Igbo Izugbe. Funny enough, Owerri Igbo carries more swag to it than Igbo Izugbe.

In Igbo meetings or gatherings, some people may choose to switch to Onitsha Igbo maybe because it is easy for everyone else to understand or for the 'flavour' that it carries. On the other hand, Igbo Izugbe seems to be restricted to mostly literary usage and in Christian musics.

To correct the impression, Igbo Izugbe is NOT 80% Owerri Igbo. The general impression is that Igbo Izugbe was taken from Owerri Igbo which is totally false. The syntax or skeleton upon which Igbo Izugbe is built on comes from Onitsha Igbo. Igbo Izugbe is Onitsha Igbo in terms of structure and southern Igbo in vocabulary. Core Owerri Igbo is hardly understood by a first-time Igbo visitor to Owerri while Onitsha Igbo/Igbo Izugbe is easily understood by any Igbo speaker. Onitshans say, 'A na m eje afia ka m gote ife', Igbo Izugbe says, 'A na m eje ahia ka m gote ihe', Owerri Igbo says, 'E jega m ahia ma zuta he'. Anoter example, Onitshans would say, 'Ife I na-acho a diro', Igbo Izugbe would say, 'Ihe I na-acho a dighi', Owerri Igbo would say, 'he I choga a rihu'. Owerri Igbo is in no way similar to Igbo Izugbe in sentence formation or structure. In other words, Onitsha Igbo was taken and its skeletal structure retained but stripped off majority of its vocabulary and replaced with vocabulary from Southern Igbo. Igbo Izugbe is spoken in the same way Onitshans speak Igbo and not the same manner Owerri people speak Igbo. People should learn to recognize these subtle differences.

Personally, I think Onitsha Igbo would have been left as the official Igbo dialect.
Onitsha Igbo is like a shiny marketable champagne while Owerri Igbo is an earthy brandy. Igbo Izugbe is like a generalised version of the dialects spoken around the areas where northern Abia and Imo meet.

I actually like Eko Atlantic a lot and I believe it's one of the reasons why I like Fashola a bit, ditto the metrorail - albeit I'm not his groupie and I still believe he was mediocre.

However, my only grouse with a project of that magnitude is the fact that they never tried to create an identity for the state. Lagos has no identity and when you're planning something as commendable as this within an axis - you've to plan ahead and make it statement, with an identity, so as not to suck developments away from other areas in the South West.

What am I saying? I'll New York and the Tri-state as an example. When Manhattan was built - the identity of New York became the financial district. After that, a lot of things moved to the two other states in the tri-state. However, with Lagos - those folks lack foresight and planning. And they just keep trying to fit everything into one state, while sucking developments out of the other states - thus making Lagos more snarled-up than it's meant to be.
They're just continuing the trend of Nigeria being a one city state. Lagos = Nigeria to everyone anyway.

the person who opened the thread should have focused on so called development in other parts of Nigeria today because the whole of Nigeria is mediocre at best.

The only relevant industry is the oil industry and I don't see any attempts at truly trying to diversify. That's why threads like this end up derailed, because no one in Nigeria really has much to show in terms of industry outside Lagos and Abuja, the oil industry, and informal import/export.

It is a known detail of archaeology that clothing decays over time especially cotton or other agriculturally based biodegradable fabric unless there are in place special circumstances to ensure their preservation such as entombing which would explain finding fibres at the site of burial of a "king" although Eboes claim not to have kings. That does not detract from the fact that the vast majority of the people especially adult women were all naked when the colonialists arrived. The pictures are everywhere and you just might provoke someone into publishing them AGAIN!! There are words for cloth and thread in most Nigerian languages so it is foolish to believe that clothing first appeared in West Africa just 1000 years ago whether in Eboeland or elsewhere. The point is it was not available for adult females until 100 years ago. Rather than talk or archaeological digs tell us about what fabrics your people used>It was mostly raffia and leaves
So what was found at Igbo Ukwu probably came from Benin after all were there not also beads there that were clearly of Middle Eastern origin and therefore evidence of TRADE.
The fact that the Benin do not allow people to go digging up the graves of their kings means nothing.
You know all you wrote was bullshit, if not, you'd provide older evidence of textiles. Your initial statment was that eastern Nigerians were shrieking unclad, we've established that the oldest found woven textiles in the whole of West Africa was found in Anambra, and now you're replying with all this rubbish about

This is an image of a woman from the Court of Benin from the 1700s, the greatest empire West Africa has ever seen, completely unclad, the image below is of Queen Idia, probably the greatest Queen Mother of West Africa, bare chested herself, flanked by nude women. Below are ancient Egytpian women. Many if not all West African peoples had nude women, even the ancient Egyptians had nude dancing women and their queens were nude as well, it didn't change the fact that these two great kingdoms had advanced technology compared to most of their neighbours. Below those pictures are Igbo women mostly nude with quality cloth wrapped round their waists. The metals and textiles on them have been produced by their people for thousands of years and on their land the earliest textiles were found. Now what the Bleep are you threatening to "publish"?

The nsibidi writing system is reportedly of Ejagham origin and was developed by the peoples of the Cross River, including the Cross River Igbo.

Ajayi Crowther didn't create a dictionary, it was a primer, and more Igbo words were already recorded by Olaudah Equiano in the 1780s.
