adelawry: A solid background in maths is sure a factor that can help you excel in engineering. But that you have a strong background in maths doesn’t guarantee strength in these courses. Mind you, the thermo in Chem engr slightly differs from that in Mech engr (which is the easier one). They are NOT abstract mathematics ooo. In fact, you need plenty of real-life understanding of thermodynamic systems to excel in those courses.
If you do your search well, you’ll be able to find a few schools that you stand a chance. Check out University of Illinois, chemical and biomolecular engineering. Good luck in your search!
pompeiimagnus: If you took undergraduate courses on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc. you could gamble on 1 or 2 chem. engineering applications. Look at the University of Utah. Just make sure to check the prerequisites carefully. If you decide to focus on chemistry, I'd suggest you look at energy storage. This is an exciting area due to the transition towards cleaner energy. I'm an engine guy though....
Thermodynamics, yes. Fluid mechanics not so much, unless rheology of polymers count Sha. However, can't they use other materials to determine this thing, correct me if I am wrong but 90% of Thermodynamics and Fluid mechanic is abstract mathematics, which won't be a problem for someone will a good mathematics background.
Mosminic: I also studied Industrial Chemistry and wanted to apply to Chemical Engineering graduate programs as well but the chances were slim even though I took quite a number of Chemical Engineering courses during my undergraduate study. Try Ohio State University though. But try also to find another branch of Chemistry you're more passionate about. Industrial Chemists tend to like Analytical Chemistry and Nanochemistry. Just take your time and make your research properly. Your profile is strong. Cheers
Yeah, you are right about Nanochemistry and material. I will check out Ohio. Thank you
sonofakin: Since it is like a Plan B, you can try University of Alabama. Earlier this year, one of their Professors tweeted about looking for grad students
sonofakin: You are a smart guy so please be smart with this issue. A lot of schools offer Chemical Engineering, check like 20 of them particularly the prerequisites. If you don't meet up with the prerequisites, it should tell you that you might not qualify in most schools. If you end up applying, you might be denied or asked to take those prerequisites at your own expense.
Thank you for this response, I will check it out. I really desire to sneak 1 or 2 of Chemical Engineering into the mix
solastar2: From what I noticed this year, funded Chemistry admission is easier to secure than Chemical Engineering. Also, the number of schools offering MSc and PhD in Chemistry is more than that of Chemical Engineering. It is better you stick to Chemistry at least for now. It seems to be easier pathway right now. My opinion though
Thank you for your response, it's not like I am making a switch completely to Chemical Engineering. 90% of my application is for Chemistry Ph.D. I just want to risk adding 1 or 2 chemical engineering program since I won't mind doing it if offered.
Walesherbey: Hello, I also did industrial chemistry and wanted to go for chemical engineering but the school I mailed said I will have to take some prerequisite course of some graduate courses and the courses will be paid for which can be expensive but if you're seeking a fully funded degree I would advise you stick with chemistry as you will get good funding. This is all I know tho someone else can know better.
Thank you for your response, it's not like I am making a switch directly to Chemical Engineering. 90% of my application is for Chemistry Ph.D. I just want to risk adding 1 or 2 chemical engineering program since I won't mind doing it if offered.
Good day bosses, I know the discussion going on now is about interview. I hope I get a response for this though.
So little story, I am a graduate of Industrial Chemistry (B.Tech 4.05, GRE: 324;3.5), currently serving, I am looking to apply to 2 or 3 Chemical Engineering program and I am having difficulty finding a safe school to pitch my application since I don't have an Engineering background. Please can the experts in the house help out with a suggestion?
By the way, all the program I am gunning for is a Ph.D. plus for my GRE, my Quant is 166 and during my undergraduate, I did 5 mathematics courses and I had distinction in all.
I think Rohr should be sacked, he is not the right man for this team. Lots of errors but the most annoying is Kevin as a RB.
Plus, Okoye is shit. None of the goals is his fault but watch him again, Everytime he is approached he is very shaky. Uzoho is definitely better than this guy.
Musa should retire please. Let the Young guns do the work, we will give you a tag of legend don't you worry. Just retire first.
The field is also shit, don't ever use it again. Ciao
Please can the house recommend schools that waiver TOEFl for Nigerians. I studied Industrial Chemistry and I am going for a PhD in Chemistry. I have written my GRE with a score of 324 and I will like to get schools that waiver TOEFl for Nigerians please
My Opinion Zaidu and Okoye impressed me. Balogun, Ebeuhi are very solid. Paul, Agu should never be invited again I will like Tijani to start next game, his few minu6shows potential. Eze and Kali are very disappointing, Iwobi was good but also stranded. Again Paul should never come near the camp. Set piece is really a problem for the team.
Overall, both team played rubbish but thumbs up to sanusi and Okoye
fairheart: This date is ideal for Fall 2021 applicants, especially students who deferred from last fall. For Spring 2021 applicants, you either contact Lagos consulate or wait. I am confident that more dates will be released once the first batch of students are interviewed tomorrow 9th of October.
So this bring students having their interview tomorrow to mind. Remember the interview rules: 1, As you approach the consular counter, relax yourself. Make sure you do not go in with tension as this will impair your mind from speaking flowly and confidently. I always say on this thread: interview is merely a conversation between the consular and the student--to assess your credibility for the F1 Visa. So, do all you can to be in a relaxed state.
2, Establish eyes contact with the consular. As you deliver your response to the questions, look into his/her eyes. Have a neutral countenance.
3, Listen! Some of you have not learned the art of listening in your everyday lives. Don't go to the embassy with this attitude! Listening is very, very important in having a successful F1 interview. As a student, if you can't listen, you can't grasp what you're being asked. By listening, I mean make sure you hear what you're being asked. Don't interrupt the consular if it is not necessary. There have been cases of students who did that and got refused as a result.
3, Speak steadily. Don't be fast if you're not used to going to interviews. By steadily, I mean not so fast, not so slow. Be in the middle. Give each response as smoothly as you can. Answer each question concisely. No story; don't talk about what you were not asked. The consular probably have other students to interview and there is no time. If everything goes as usual, this interview will not be more than 5 minutes.
4, Be yourself. This is where confidence comes in. In fall 2019, I coached a dude from this thread. He stammers but he didn't show this during our mock, but when he went for his interview, he was refused. Then he tried the second time, and was refused again. I was really baffled, but he told me he couldn't speak well during those two interviews because he was somehow scared, and so he stammered most of the time. So I suggested that if he will be applying again, he should tell the consular before the interview starts that he shutters. It is not your fault that you stammer, so tell the consular you stammers! As a human being that the consular is, he said he understand and that it is fine. This's his third attempt. This time, he wasn't even asked much questions, and his visa was approved. Predstan knows this guy. So, be confident and be yourself. This is a human-to-human conversation!
5, Going with the confidence thing, wear what you're comfortable in.
6, I look forward to some good news tomorrow. All the best!
Fairheart, do you know any platform I can tender my GRE result to get some financial support? The NYSC fund I dey use is not enough, since it only drop monthly and I am trying to go for PhD which mostly close by December. Application fee and TOEFl are real financial burden for me now and I will like to know if there are ways I can make this dream of mine come true.
Admitwithschola, I saw a post about you and your friends helping guys with 320+ GRE score by returning some of the fees. I will like to ask if that offer is still up. I have written my GRE, and I had 324, I wouldn't mind getting help to finance my TOEFl because my NYSC allowance I am currently using for it is kind of stretched thin now. Any Nairalander who also will like to help me in any possible way, I will be grateful, thank you.
His body position was all wrong for this goal, he kept his hands low for some seconds restricting his ability to fly
Very Akpeyi-esqe
That's extreme. I can't really see why you fault him for the goal, reus is like 5yards out and the keeper is terribly open. I am sure you will also be part of people who critize mbappe for losing from a distance farther than that. It takes miracle to save this kind of ball or a terrible striker which Reus us definitely not.
fabyom: Stop giving false information. That was his elder brother, Akinkunmi Amoo not him.
Guys, are you reading this? If it's true, please stop spread apocalypse stories which can be detrimental to the young man's career. About age falsification, when I was in secondary school, they call me old man because I am tall and already have a old face. Now at 22, I look like my age mates, some of those who look small in high school now looks older. I think a lot of factors is involved in age ascertainity, if you are to predict my age in secondary school, you must likely going to say 25 when I was 15. Now, that I am 22, you will be predicting 21ish.
I just watch some of osihem u17 sets soccer on YouTube, never knew they had such a huge controversy about their age. The comment section is basically polluted by criticism of Nigeria U31
Please, in analysing and making our points let's be guided abeg. You may not prefer Victor Moses but he is not a shitty player at all. Show some respect man.
And yes, I saw your next line saying "he is a good player and all" but you also labelled him shitty in same sentence. Abeg, make una take am easy.
You quoted 3 words in a whole statement. I never said his footballing skills is not good, he is a good player. I specifically talked about his antics, the dives and selfishness.
Yes, I said he has to play as a wingback, Moses was a nobody international until he started playing in the defense, why should a defender that played almost 70 games as a defender comes to the national team and play 10 games as an attacker? please make it make sense.
Now, if he wants to come back, no problem but never should be put upfront again, if he desires to play, then he should stick to his club position.
He has something different to offer Abeg and it’s clear ,you can say what you like and always talk down of him ,I won’t repeat my self
Keep on dreaming of Bukayo saka ,how good is he as a winger ,no be left back e don turn permanently
I don’t need you to agree with me that Moses has something different to offer
Let's talk bro. Moses is shit, he is a good player and all but his antics are not good for national football. He dives like a fool and extremely selfish. if He is to come back, I have no problem with that. However, never should he be put up front, he should play at full back position if he can adapt. we have better, stronger and more willing players up front.
Victor Moses should only be allowed back to the team if he will line up at the defense. Bukayo Saka too is not a winger, if he can can't play as a full back for the team, he should go and cut his teeth in the English squad
pdjohnson: Hello there are many schools that will admit you into a PhD directly from a bachelor's degree. In fact most domestic students admitted into a doctoral program are admitted based off of a bachelor's degree. While a stellar cgpa, more work and/or research experience can be very helpful. It's more important to know your research or have a well defined research interest and ensure that the programs you're applying to fits well with your research interest. I'll name a few programs that do this n/b most programs that I'm aware of allow direct admission into a PhD from a bachelor's honours.
You might be considering the fact that these programs are top programs (and yes they are at least in the top 50) and you may also feel like you may need several good publications and stuff. While all this maybe some what helpful, do not let it deter you from applying. You might be shocked at the outcome.
Please feel free to dm me as regarding your specific questions
Please also check Harvard MCO department Oops what about Cornell.
Sorry I've been very restricted to programs in the biological sciences because that's my interest.
I hope this helps! Cheers.
P. S. Though can be helpful, having publications, a masters, perfect GRE scores, a stellar cgpa and stuff is not at all required for admission into PhD programs in the US. The question is: can you talk research??
This is a detailed explanation but I don't have any publication. I studied Industrial Chemistry and ideally I would have prefer to go for health informatics for my masters but then, funding is the first thing. when I say funding, I meant fully funded program, so that makes my specialization flexible for now, I don't know what you can advise me to do?
Good day, Scholars. I will like to go for masters program in Chemistry next year because I am currently serving. Please, can you recommend schools that are known to provide fully funded scholarships?
fairheart: They are many, though I don't have the list. Google is your best bet. It is not that I don't have any school that will admit for PHD without GRE, but you can't really depend on one school. I always say finding the right school that meets your admission need and academic goal is the most difficult in the process. For once you find the school and you are sure, everything will fall in place.
I have posted some google search strings on this thread before, look for it, and edit according to what you are looking for. But don't expect finding ideal school an easy task, especially without GRE.
And why don't you want to write the GRE? How many years of work experience do you current have?
Do every school provide full funding for masters programs? I am planning to go for Green Chemistry and I really don't have money to be serious.
kemmystree2015: Info systems in Northwest Missouri is under schools on of computer science. Although the program content emphasis on financial sector etc, is that still okay? On the other hand information Technology is under business school in emporia state University
I am sorry about this question. I am just curious. Let's assume you applied for a course for your masters with funding and you got your Visa. Can you change your course when you get to the states?
The reason is that I desire to study a course but if I want to be honest with myself, I don't have enough profile experience in that course to convince the embassy.
So, if I go ahead with my undergraduate course and I get to the states can I change my major to something else entirely?
Muleriders: Not at all. I have a new friend here on nairaland coming to southern arkansas University this coming fall (hopefully she'll get her visa) for master in computer information system (data science option). She also had chemistry undergraduate degree.
You are not alone. And trust me, you will be fine.
Can I pm you? It will be good for me to have people with my situation around
