Personally, I believe if Nigerian immigrants want to join the US military, they should be committed to permanently residing in the US. At least, that would create a greater sense of dedication to the American cause.

If the goal is to obtain the foreign degree and head back to Nigeria, then I don't see the need to join the US military.
thanks for your contributions

Missy89:
To add to what CFCman said, when you enlist and get the lowest rank, you will have a slightly higher pay-grade if you have a college degree(even if it is from overseas) You can choose to be an officer after you get your citizenship thou. The timeline is usually very short if you join the military. Less than a year I think
I appreciate ur contribution..some people say service to another man's land is useless but I think service to humanity is all that matters.. I'll try my luck with the marines

I'm not in the military, but I once met an Army recruiter, filed some application forms and sat for the ASVAB exam intending to join the Army Reserves. I later jettisoned the idea.

I also interacted with some US military veterans on campus, and in class. They are quite friendly people to chat with.
nice...what's your say on young Nigerians joining foreign military rather than fighting for their own nation .. Do you think is right ??
CelebritiesRe: Eniola Wright Graduates From US AirForce Academy by Faculty14(m): 9:45pm On Apr 22, 2016
CFCman:
You can only join via enlistment. First, you would sit for the ASVAB exam, which is the entry exam for prospective recruits.

Then you'd be shipped off for boot camp, before being sworn-in as a Private - the lowest rank.
thanks man
You and Missy greatly contributed to these thread
Are you both in the military?? wink

You cant be a cadet if you are not a citizen. Cadets are usually US citizens attending US military academies (Equivalent of Nigeria's NDA) or ROTC programs in US Universities to become officers. You cant be a cadet but you still have a path to be an officer thou. But you might have to enlist as a non commission officer first
thanks for the reply
I have mad love for the u.s marines
The Nig military makes it very difficult to be enlisted as a military man
You need super connection to pass through
I have plans for Canada and u.s marines

It's limited to US universities.
Ok
So what are the criterias for joining the U.S marine corp as a non citizen??
CelebritiesRe: Eniola Wright Graduates From US AirForce Academy by Faculty14(m): 8:03pm On Apr 22, 2016
CFCman:
Also, if you received a Bachelors degree from an accredited 4-yr institution, you would be eligible for the marines Office Candidate School. I believe it's a 6-week program mixed with boot-camp.
an accredited 4yr institution in the state??
Or even in your own country..for example can a Nigerian from OAU apply to join as a cadet in the U.S marine??

That means personnel was low during the time of attack else how can one explain untrained ragtag guerrillas dismantling a military base? Is there an insider or what?
don't think personnel was low
If I could remember clearly I believe the commander of the base in monguno was court marshaled or dismessed
These boko boys might be untrained but the've got guts! ..they attacked d base in large numbers..numbering up to a thousand.. Their will to fight and die for their cause makes them extremely dangerius and brutal..back then some of the sojas take to dea hills by mere seeing the bh boys approaching..I have a soja frnd hu ran away frm d front lines and has vowed never to return..
But thank God things have changed now..is no longer game as usual for these BH BOYS ..our boys are doing a good job

You and tit are saying the same thing albeit in different ways. Do you know what it means to sack a military base? Hmmm... No be yams. Somewhere, somehow there was a sabotage. Can point my fingers to anyone but it the compass points to *lips sealed*
i do know what it means
And it did happen..the MNJTF base in Bama and and a base in monguno was ransacked once in 2015..also military base in baga was almost overun in 2014 before they were repelled
Other similar military outpost and smaller bases have being ransacked before by boko haram before they were all recovered mid Lst year.. Bh still posses most of the stockpiles the looted then and the above pics shows some of them
Some of the videos are available on the net you can check them out

We tried purchasing old stock of AH-6 Cobras x USMC IsrealiCUSMCsannd46 Sea Knights under GEJ's watch. The Americans blocked the deals, hence the spat btw us and them. The Chinook wouldve been a lovely addition, and so would the Blackhawk, but the Mi-17 is equally very rugged, although its safety record is a concern. Anyway, we can expanded our PUMA fleet
that will be nice

The aircrafts you've mentioned are FIXED WING (fighter jets). Army avaiation around the world only do ROTARY AIRCRAFTS (helicopters) only.

@ OP, I dont think the Rooivalk is a good idea as it will create a logistical nightmare for the military. Why not go for variants of same Mi-35 Hind Attack Helicopter used by the Nigerian Air Force? It combines the role of Attack and Transport very well.
why can't we go for cobras or black hawk choppers for transport and also chinooks
Is their a law prohibiting us from getting this platforms or is it the price.. Is it so expensive??
I wish we get such platforms

He has done his part besides this video looks old
I tink someone dig this from their archive and is trying to cause confussion..boko haram is now Isis affiliate and there latest videos depicts those facts
Boko haram videos always has ISWAP bodily written with a green and black flag before any music or rubbish talk begins

Going through comments and is surprising to see how nobody seems to see the part of the report which says that 6COPIES of the Koran was discovered from the dead BH members
I used to think people say boko haram are not Muslim..
I remembered there was a controversial video Lst year circling the net which shows some captured BH members unable to recite the Koran and many pounced on it claiming BH and Islam are not related.
Why I'm I saying all these..the issue here is that before we can defeat BH we need to go back to the root cause of the crisis and not politicise the issue
The only way BH can be defeated or subdued is by going back to the books..Islamic cleric and high chiefs in the Muslim world should address this issue.. These guys believe that what they are doing is right and just
But its upto to the sultans and the emirs and other highly placed Islamic clerics to come outside and re address this issue
Did they Koran ask Muslims to fight non believers??
Did it call for a holy war?
Is converting of non believers done through force??
Such issues should be addressed

You don't jail people like that in modern world. Justice is slow. And if these people are not even given bail conditions, it is people like you that would still be crying "rule of law".
I know that you are not happy that these people are being charged to courts, but just sit down and observe, one by one, they will find their way from federal high courts to supreme Court and finally to jail. It may take time, long time for that matter.
from federal high court to supreme court and then what??
The case dies down..We hear nothing about them

When the silly commandant did the same when he was a cadet, what moral right does he have to expel them. They see you as nothing but bloody civilians, wonder why another case of a lawyer beaten mercilessly by two soldiers in Lagos for not walking fast enough did not make front page. I still believe that your attitude towards our uniformed fellow Nigerians speaks a lot.

Agreed we have a lot of imbeciles tainting the sacredness of the uniform but we still have to give those who are repping a chance.

I assure you that girls career is over. I know how the NDA works. I have seen people kicked out on the night of Pop. People with big names attached to them

We need to know our rights and also understand the individual you are dealing with may not be your intellectual mate and is used to dealing with petty folks.

Answer them properly and they won't bug you. Speaking from personal experience.
hmm tanx boss for the clarity
I must admit it pains me a lot when I see innocent civilians been treated like trash by uniform personnel tho some might be guilty for whatsoever crime the committed..the police should handle such issue not military men
P.s I have mad love for the Nigerian armed forces, I even follow one of the biggest military thread here on NL..a thread by Henry 140 and a frequent user of beegeagles blog
I wish more could be done concerning civil/military relations in this country.
