The topic is so good it was posted twice simultaneously. Yeah, bitterleaf, fortunately, happens to be my favorite soup (to go with pounded yam of course). If you've never tasted bitterleaf soup garnished with snails, dried fish, fresh fish with pounded yam, then I'm sorry you've either not 'eaten real food' or not truly from Nigeria. No two things involved! 21 Likes 3 Shares |

davodyguy: It is not Photoshop bro, believe me when I say that. I've witnessed it live and direct in Edo State to be precise. Especially in those rural areas where they harvest cassava in large quantities - you will see their husbands riding the bikes while the wives sit on the large sacks of cassava. And on a weekend when the children are at home, they go to farms with their mothers and the mothers ride the bikes while the 'brave' kids sit on the sacks. I always leave my mouth wide open each time. Trust me, it is very real. 7 Likes |

Literature / Re: Dear Contemporary African Writer, We Read; We Don't Just Read You by Fairgodwin(m): 6:14am On Jul 07, 2016 |
I love the way this post was written. But in any case, all the points raised are valid, very valid. I really wish something very drastic, in the positive, could be done about it, in fact, as a matter of urgency. I love African Writers, especially the contemporary ones like you said; but the problem is, they are now very few. And I sincerely advocate everything you pointed out, especially in the area of the availability of their works. READING IS LIVING!! Good morning Nairaland. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

Whenever I see females achieving something so remarkable especially in the academics, it gives me great joy in their behalf. I wasn't so proud or happy with the way my school was run until a female VC emerged. She practically changed everything and I still feel so grateful to her for I was able to graduate just at the right time with the right set. God bless this woman and of course, my former VC and every female lecturer/professor out there. 3 Likes |

I still very well remember all of them. And I remember back then we used to call it 'Reader' and not 'Textbook' How can I ever also forget one of my favorite modules, "A stranger comes to town: in the picture you can see Mr Sada, he's a farmer who lives in Sapele. He plants corn, cassava and groundnut." And "Agbo lives in the town of Lagoon, which is not far from Ibadan." Oh my God, some sense of nostalgia right there. Back then we were great 'readers of Readers.' The joy and glory of education can neither [ever] be lost nor overemphasized. I love you education, you're my family. 19 Likes 2 Shares |

I'm very proud of all my fellow Nigerians who have been earning great results, especially first class, from this Cyprus University(ies). (But on another hand, e be like sey this Cyprus school(s) love Naija students so much o, because e be like sey dem just dey dash dem first class anyhow oo.) But on a more serious note, Nigerians have got the brains. We're feared all over the world - not just for the bad reasons but even for the good reasons too. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I NEVER did! For I was one of the most responsible boys in the whole of the secondary schools I attended and besides, I hate stains so much and more importantly, my uniform (the shirt) was white and I just wouldn't want it to get stained for a second. I had a very solid reputation all through my school days (University inclusive) so much so that I wouldn't let even the least of embarrassment come/happen to me. 2 Likes |

And therefore, they killed her dreams of "living in an urban area and having her own business" - good dreams it certainly was - but it's not yet too late though, because she's still young and thank God she's met as well as embraced Jesus: it is going to be well with her, certainly. My dear 'forumites,' cases like this abounds each day everywhere in our country, sadly. But we just have to keep appealing to the government, praying to God, and also playing our parts as individuals with good hearts and intentions (just like the good Samaritan woman who took her home according to her narrations). Nigerians, you and I can actually do something, however insignificant, before waiting for the government. You and I are the government! Like the late Dora Akunyili said (in her campaign of sensitising Nigeria during her time as information minister) , "good people, great nation," so please my fellow Nigerians, let's truly be that 'good people' to our fellow citizens irrespective of tribe or affiliations. May God never stop helping us [Nigerians] Amen! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Reading is my biggest hobby and when I see good writers, especially of African descent, they make my heart and even the whole of me, melt. Wole Soyinka I love; Chinua Achebe I love; Elechi Amadi I love; Camara Laye I love; Ngugi wa Thiongo I love and you, Ngozi Chimamanda Adichie, I dearly (be)love. Congratulations to you ma'am. 53 Likes 4 Shares |

Oh my goodness, may his gentle soul rest in peace. I remember reading his book, The Concubine, when I was pretty much younger (African Writers Series). He was one of the finest African writers - the man from Aluu. He lived a very quiet and modest life. Once again, rest in peace Dear Mr Elechi Amadi. 17 Likes 2 Shares |

This picture again? But Nairaland, why, why, why? I think the lady is a mechanical engineer, so she's showing her expertise - nothing wrong with that. But the only problem I wholeheartedly have with both the photo and the man is that, he should have at least given her a helping hand no matter what, not just sit there like it's some roadside mechanic working on his car - such a pitiable eyesore. It clearly tells you the kind of marriage that lady is into. I know it was supposed to be hilarious but sincerely I don't in any way find it funny. I get upset each time I see it, irrespective of the number of times. 28 Likes 2 Shares |
