Ibadan critical to our development plan —Federal Government LATEST NEWS By Tunde Ogunesan On May 19, 2019 MINISTER of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has said that Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as a city, is critical in the development agenda of the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government. He said this was the reason the Ibadan Airport was penciled in by the government as part of projects for rehabilitation in the industrial revolution agenda of the administration. Sirika stated this while addressing journalists in Ibadan, on Saturday, after the inauguration of the recently-built terminal building at the airport at Alakia. The minister, who arrived at the airport at exactly 3:05 p.m., in an aircraft marked 5N-BVR, was received by Senator Soji Akanbi on behalf of the people of Oyo State; manager, Ibadan Airport, Mr Victor Akinselure; and other staff of the airport. Chronicling the political, socio-economic, and historical development of the city, Sirika went ahead to inaugurate the terminal building, while paying glowing tribute to the heroes of the city. He was accompanied by the Managing Director, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Saleh Dunomah; Director, Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET), Professor Sank Nashir; acting Permanent Secretary, Mr John Eboigbe, among others. “The importance of Ibadan and its environs, the rich history, culture and tradition, the trade and its commerce and the size of the population of Ibadan make it too important as a city to be ignored. Emefiele’s reappointment will ensure sustainable rice production ― RIFAN “The Federal Government, through the ministries of transportation and aviation, is conscious of this. Therefore, we undertook this project to rehabilitate the airport and try to recreate activities around it to take it past its previous glory. “We cannot grow bigger or run faster than our fathers. Therefore, we will not abandon these cities for their historical significance, population, contribution to the development and growth of this country, socio-economic activities, trade, politics, tradition and culture. “This city of Ibadan, indeed, is a pillar city in West Africa. It is central, just like Kano. We revere this city and against this background, the ministries of transportation and aviation decided to rehabilitate the Ibadan terminal building and some other associated works, including perimeter fencing,” he said. Addressing journalists, the airport manager, Akinselure, said with the inauguration, Ibadan Airport was “ready to fly,” urging the Federal Government not to relent in its effort to ensure the standard of the airport increase and it is put to full utilisation. https://www.tribuneonlineng.com/212765/amp/

I REARED CHICKEN TO SPONSOR MY EDUCATION – LASU BEST GRADUATING STUDENT, OLA-GBADAMOSI OLADOTUN written by Damilare Salami May 16, 2019 Ola-Gbadamosi Ridwan Oladotun, LASU best tudent , 2017'2018 The overall best graduating student for 2017/2018 academic session with 4.88 CGPA at the Lagos State University (LASU) Ola-Gbadamosi Ridwan Oladotun, has narrated how he reared chicken to meet his personal and academic needs while in school. He said it was difficult for his father to pay his first tuition fee of over N280,000 when he gained admission into the university in 2013. Oladotun, who finished from LASU’s faculty of Engineering emerged best overall graduating student together with one Nneka Karen Enumah of the faculty of Science as they both graduated with CGPA grade of 4.88. To assist his father financially, Oladotun, in his valedictory speech at the 23rd convocation ceremony of the University, said he decided to invest the cash prize he received at his secondary school Speech and Prize Giving Day in the production of 150 broilers, which he successfully raised from day old chicks till maturity during the 2013 Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike. “I remember using bandage to wrap their broken legs and a sipping straw to administer drugs on one of the birds not because I cared about their health but because I was desperate about making the desired profit. The return on the investment was used to cater for my personal and academic needs,” he said. Narrating how the journey began, the Engineering graduate said, “I attended Federal Government College, Ijanikin Lagos where I finished as the best graduating student in 2013. “My flair for Physics and Mathematics was at its peak, driven by my inquisitiveness to unravel what was behind the functioning mechanisms of structures and systems. “So, I decided to study Mechanical Engineering. Though, paying the tuition of LASU Engineering students as at 2013 (N284,750) was a big task mindful of the fact that two of my younger siblings were getting ready for tertiary education and my father had the onerous responsibility to shoulder all of the financial demands from all of us. “Meanwhile, my late mother, Mrs. Aishat Adejoke Ola-Gbadamosi who would have supported him died while I was 12 years old. Eventually, my father was able to pay the full tuition, while l had to take charge of other associated expenses.” His Matriculation Day, according to him, was a bitter-sweet day for him; while he was basking in the joy of being a university student, the thoughts of how his father was going to pay his humongous tuition fees for the remaining four years of his studies never eluded his mind for a seconds all through the ceremony. Then, he took a decision that changed his story for the better. “I made up my mind out of sheer determination to obtain a very good CGPA because I knew with this; I would be able to apply for undergraduate scholarships offered by several companies. “I made good my pledge and I became a beneficiary of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas, MTN Foundation and Federal Government Scholarships amongst other grants which were utilized in paying my school fees and other sundry expenses,” he narrated. He called on government to create an environment that will attract more of foreign investors and collaborators in the field of Engineering. This, he said, will enable the country to have the right manpower to drive its industries and in the long run improve the gross domestic product capacity of the country, while reducing unemployment simultaneously. “Equally, Nigeria will experience youth’s application of information and other technological means to solve humanity’s problems rather than using existing ones for cyber bullying and other crimes,” he added. Earlier in his convocation address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju A. Fagboun, noted that for the first time, the University graduated 57 first class students. While he tasked the graduands on the challenges ahead, he advised them not to entertain self-doubt. http://www.citypeopleonline.com/i-reared-chicken-to-sponsor-my-education-lasu-best-graduating-student-ola-gbadamosi-oladotun/

*RE: RCCG MINISTER COMMITS SUICIDE* The attention of the leadership of the RCCG has been drawn to reports of the death of one Mr. Michael Arowosaiye said to have committed suicide in Abuja on Tuesday May 14, 2019. The report which has been trending on the social media and has also featured in the newspapers, said the man decided to take his own life after going into depression. While the RCCG leadership sympathises with the family of the deceased, it has become necessary to clarify the mis-information and absolute falsehood in the report. The said Mr. Michael Arowosaiye was not a minister in the RCCG. He was a singer and a keyboardist in one of our Youth Parishes in Abuja until 2017 when he left for another ministry. His movement to another ministry notwithstanding, Michael, through his elder brother who is presently one of the coordinators of the RCCG Youth Choir, continued to get invitation to minister in RCCG programmes. He had accommodation problem in 2018 and though he was no longer in the RCCG, a family in the Mission gave him the Boy’s Quarters of their house in Sunnyvale Estate in Lokogoma FCT, which was where he lived till the unfortunate suicide incident. It is therefore untrue to refer to him as a Minister in the RCCG. It is also misleading and absolutely incorrect to create the impression that RCCG does not care for its Members and Ministers. The RCCG is in the forefront among organizations with robust welfare package in Nigeria. *Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi* *_Head, Media & Public Relations_*
