blueAgent:I just sent a Wikipedia article in the same text, every other thing can easily be researched. |
Macsjebs:The Bible is written in Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek. Many words in each of those languages do not exactly translate well to each other which is why there is great debate about what the author actually means in some Bible verses. It is not a complete book as the parts about the childhood of Jesus were mysteriously left out and there is a 300 year gap from the writing of the book of Macabees to the start of the new testament. The Hebrew Torah was also heavily modified in the second temple period due to the adoption of a monotheistic belief system rather than the previous polytheism before the Babylonian exile which is why we have names like 'El Shadai' and 'Elohim' for God who's real name is 'Yahweh'. The reason the Bible exists in the form we are accustomed to is because early Roman Church fathers came together to select which books would be known as 'canonical' meaning they were important enough to be added to the Bible (which is Greek for the book). Other books were deemed heretical and suppressed or destroyed and the people who preached them were persecuted. It wasn't until the development of the printing press and Martin Luthers protests that the bible was widely read by more than just the wealthy class or those affiliated with the church. |

OChimex:Again which god? Is it Ymir, Jupiter, Olodumare or Bharma? |
OChimex:Which of the thousands of gods have you tested and found to be true? |
OChimex:If I drop a stone at your empty coconut head isn't that a visual representation of gravity? Stop reasoning like a kid, those things you said can easily be demonstrated through repeatable processes which is why it is considered science rather than wild assumptions or the supernatural. |
buygala:You do realize that the process of macroevolution takes a long time to manifest visually. This sort of timescale which means you and I will be long dead before we see any sort of noticeable change. Your line of thinking is similar to assuming you never had a childhood because you see yourself as an adult now. The signs are there but people lazily assume that a monkey will give birth to a human. Below is one example of natural selection, which is an aspect of evolution, due to human activity https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppered_moth Another aspect is bacteria that have evolved resistance to current antibiotics. As an example of human evolution people today are much taller than they were 500 years ago, the development is sickle cell anaemia as a form of malaria resistance and the ability of humans to digest milk. |
We all knew this ages ago, how is this news? ![]() |

Such a sad and avoidable death. |
fortran12:No thank you, I am done subscribing to such irrational belief systems. |
fortran12:You just said it, these acts do not occur in nature and are therefore fictional. It's like asking me for proof that Jack and the Beanstalk is not a fictional story. Using occams razor which is more likely talking animals and transforming sticks or tall tales written to deceive people? fortran12:This is why no reliable scholar takes it's miraculous claims seriously, I could write a book claiming Obansajo is actually a giant lizard in human skin but that does not make it true, any book that claims something to be true while others claim otherwise should not be taken seriously. fortran12:But you said God created man perfect, if that is the case then a perfect being created in the image of God should make perfect decisions obviously not fall for the tales of a reptile they just met. You can not claim something is perfect while glossing over it's imperfections. Your second claim is also ridiculous because God is apparently the author and finisher of everything, therefore everything that happens is a direct result of his action (or inaction). fortran12:What wrong things? We prayed, we went to church, followed the rules did whatever the priest or pastor said. We believed God was omnipotent, that he had no limits, that he sees everything but when we asked why God allows people who did nothing wrong to suffer we had no answer. fortran12:The sun is there for us to see yet God the most important being in all existence insists on being invisible. God insist on being hidden and open to whatever interpretation, God allowed thousands of different religions to spring up yet only showed himself to one group. Everyone else who lived and died at the other side of the world without even hearing about the Christian or Jewish god is now damned because God was shy. Only a mad person says the sun isn't real yet there have been thousands of religions throughout the world and thousands of gods, how are you so sure the one you conveniently happen to worship is the correct one? fortran12:God made everything good, so why did the devil revolt, why did man get easily decieved, why even allow the (supposed) devil into the garden of Eden in the first place? Was he not good enough, or was God not in control when he made him? Or did the devil make himself? It's like I created a program that makes all computers go faster but they explode after one hour of use. Or if I made a delicious meal with a little bit of poison inside. If I did either then I would be put in prison. I can't claim credit for the meal or program then say the death of my guests or destruction of computers is because of the food and program. Even still the punishment of death and suffering of their descendants for eating a bloody fruit is massively disproportionate, its like cutting someone's hand off for not returning your pen. |
Moety:We have it we just don't test everyone we see, stop being ignorant. |
fortran12:It is clear you don't read the bible or you just listen to the parts your pastor talks about. Balaam started talking to his donkey when it would not move (Numbers 22:28), Aaron turned his rod into a snake to eat the snakes of the Pharoh's advisers (Exodus 7:10-12) the whole point of miracles are events that defy natural understanding. Maybe Jesus (or whatever the author claimed Jesus said) in Matthew 19:26 was flat out wrong then. The more you write the more you prove my point that the supernatural occurrences are human misinterpretations fortran12:God created man perfect but apparently didn't create them with the ability to say no or tell when someone is trying to deceive them? The conflation with the devil and the snake was made after the fact hundreds of years later by different authors with a different agenda. https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-topics/bible-interpretation/how-the-serpent-became-satan/ fortran12:Right from Genesis the bible contradicts itself (http://contradictionsinthebible.com/category/genesis/) this is because the bible is written by men with different agendas thousands of years apart. https://m.news24.com/MyNews24/The-Problem-of-the-Bible-Inaccuracies-contradictions-fallacies-scientific-issues-and-more-20120517 Your second point is also very laughable, I like most other people who have dumped religion on Nairaland and beyond were once Christian, Muslim or whatever. When we saw that prayers and supernatural claims were not provable or simply didn't work we started to question what we were told and read about other perspectives then came to the conclusion that religion was simply a massive scam. Just think the main reason most of the world is either Christian or Muslim is because they traveled round the world first and violently suppressed other religions and offered to 'help' others on the condition that they convert. If you were born in Rome 2000 years ago you would worship Jupiter and Apollo, because you are born in Nigeria after the British took over you are a Christian. If God appeared to everyone round the world and not just in Israel to a few thousand people then there would be no doubt as to his existence just as there is no doubt that the sun exists. If this happened there would be no other religions not even Islam just Christianity but this didn't happen. fortran12:God created everything meaning that he also created the devil knowing that he was evil therefore every evil caused by the devil is also his fault. If I build two cars one that travels very well and one that has no brakes, should I only take credit for the first car and take no responsibility for the second car that I made when it kills someone? |
namiji2598:There are jobs in Lagos but the state is overcrowded so the jobs might not end up paying much, some don't pay at all and others have silly qualification requirements just to stop others from applying. Some people are fortunate that their jobs are enough to live on but most are not so most people end up doing a side business or have a partner with another source of income. |
namiji2598:He is in Lagos |
It is well, sha if anything happens to the church members they should not blame it on 'the enemy'. |
fortran12:So you mean to tell me that there is no Christian in this world that has prayed for their?amputated limbs to grow back? To those that did how did that turn out for them? fortran12:https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+89%3A11&version=ESV https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+2%3A1-25&version=ESV fortran12:Humans by nature do not resurrect from the dead, walk on water, turn rods into snakes, talk to animals and make the blind see. These things according to the bible happened yet God can't grow back amputated limbs. fortran12:God created the tree (for what purpose I do not know) and also created the snake, the snake is not the devil and was never referred to as such in the Bible, that is Christian revisionism. The snake God created deceived the humans God created, who had also never been told a lie before. Come to think of it both God and the snake were correct to a point in their claims the humans gained knowledge but it made them mortal. Also what is the point of going through the complicated process of having a messiah appear to just a few people rather than just appearing to everyone at once? Why only reveal yourself to just one tribe in the middle east who will then make a contradictory series of books explaining what you are in different languages so nobody is ever really correct? fortran12:You are still not getting the point, God created everything the way he meant it to be so as a result the consequences of their nature are his fault. Man didn't create viruses that serve no purpose aside from killing host cells and replicating God did, Man might have eaten a fruit but how did it affect the other animals created before man? If the snake was going to upset the perfect balance why create it in the first place? Why can God receive praise for all things good and never receive blame for all the bad things that result from his creation? I swear the yoruba traditional religion makes more sense than this Judeo-Roman imported religion. |
Godblessbiafraa:I know people abroad who have it, stop being an ass this is the same way ebola spread out of control in Guinea, because people either thought it was fake or blamed the disease on healthcare workers. |
