People tend to do business with someone who dresses well. Sorry, but that's the real world, not the fantasy that is Nairaland Ok if you have any serious business in a bank or hospital and the thing that bothers you the most is the workers wearing a t-shirt then I don't think you are there for serious business. If Mark Zuckerberg walked into your place of work for an investment proposal would you turn him away for not dressing like a Hugo Boss model? As long as you are neat and the clothes aren't revealing I'm not going to put such shallow value judgements on others. |

Or you would like it if your banker or doctor or lawyer dressed anyhow when transacting business with you?
Zuckerberg or no Zuckerberg, dressing well still carries better influence If my appendix was about to burst the type of shirts my doctor wears would be the least of my concerns. Mark Zuckerberg illustrates that your value is isn't determined by what you wear but what you can give to people. |

nlPoster: Lineage is typically traced paternally in Nigeria. Exceptions are what I mentioned earlier. Individuals could adapt it to a different format if they prefer but in general, the child is descended from the father unless circumstances or personal decisions dictate otherwise.
Yes, I probably quoted you for your comment about Yoruba women but you've mentioned Yoruba men dating SE SS almost two or three times when responding, I can't be following strangers around to know who they're dating when it's not my business and I have other things to do with my time.
If I am paid to monitor their love lives however, that might be different because at least I'd be getting some financial incentive for pokenosing .
Eguns I believe speak Yoruba but are not Yoruba. See Nigerians see things as black and white too much, same thing with lineage and tribe. Eguns have been living and mixing among Yorubas for about 500 years now. Not just the language but their culture, chieftancy titles, food, music and wedding traditions are indistinguishable from most Yorubas. How this relates to me is you tried to say I'm not Yoruba based on narrow metrics when I'm more Yoruba than not. But it's okay. |

nlPoster: If you're Nigerian, you'd know lineage is traced through the father unless there are different circumstances such as you were raised in your mother's culture and dont have much affiliation with your paternal ancestry.
So if your dad is Egun, shouldn't you know you're Egun, or what are the cultural norms there as per identity?
You keep mentioning Yoruba guys who are dating non Yoruba women, what has that got to do with me and why do you keep emphasizing it? Am I responsible for who Yoruba men date? I must have double posted, but I'll answer anyway. I personally don't support 'lineage through the father only'. I thought marriage was the joining of two houses so you can't have one without the other. Although not everyone I met believes this, some think since the mother grew the child and spent most of the child's formative years together she claims it for herself. Eguns have totally assimilated into Yoruba culture having lived here for hundreds of years, just that some people don't accept because of variation in names also because they think Yorubaland ends at Badagry. Go to the border towns and aside from accents there isn't much difference from other parts of the country. If you don't believe me all those men in boats fishing on Lagos lagoon are eguns. I thought you quoted me for my comment about Yoruba women . |

Yoruba guys dating and marrying non Yoruba women is not really news to me, it's not unusual since the men can marry from wherever they like.
The Nigerian trait is to boast about "conquering" women from other places, which for some weird reason is seen as taking over or getting a foothold there.
And, technically, you are not Yoruba since your dad isn't? Is your dad partly Yoruba as in one definitely Yoruba parent or he has some Yoruba ancestry. For me personally it's not about conquest or whatever, non Yoruba girls have just frustrated the interest out of me. My paternal grandfather is not Yoruba, my grandmother is though of the Egun variety. So if my mother is fully Yoruba and my dad isn't does that make me a spirit? |

nlPoster: Yoruba mostly meaning?
And yes, many Yoruba men prefer SE and SS women, there seems to me more of them on nl for some reason (probably because the site owner also promotes it).
Personally, I think people should go with their preferences unless it's indicated otherwise. I also don't like situations rife within the black community irrespective of origin where the genders curse each other out anyhow. Eg:
https://www.nairaland.com/3963939/wow-never-knew-yoruba-women Mom is Yoruba dad is partially Yoruba, non Yoruba last name. These things are just my experience, I've seen it too many times. Ask most of those Yoruba guys that go after South East and South South girls they will tell you the same thing even Davido agrees . My own personal issues are with Yoruba women, when black people start their gender wars its most likely due to insecurity. |

Although I agree with you Yoruba women have a lot of stress. I'm Yoruba (mostly), and I must tell you me and Yoruba women are like oil and water. I just find them so hard to relate with at first, they seem to have this kind of proud, loud behaviour that makes them hard to talk to and most can be so rude, even the quiet ones can be rude. we really need to learn from our Yoruba counterpart Are you sure? Me I am tired of Yoruba women, their stress is too much. |

BluntBoy: I believe that you can read, and can tell the difference between fertility rate and conversion rate?
Pew Research estimates that 40 million people are expected to convert to Christianity between 2010-2050, and 106 million people are expected to leave Christianity during that period (resulting in a net loss of 66 million). [3] This is in contrast to most other religions, including Islam and Hinduism, where the number converting in is roughly similar to the number converting out. http://www.pewforum.org/2015/04/02/religious-projections-2010-2050/ Note that in Muslim majority countries conversion from Islam is often illegal or socially frowned upon. There's also the fact that in Christian majority countries being an atheist isn't a crime but in Muslim majority countries it can be a death sentence. There is more legal and social pressure for people in Muslim majority countries to stay Muslim. |

chigoziri2403: I first met her in Jos, I asked her for a fling, she refused, after much persuasion, she agreed, when she came to my apartment, she met one of my friends with benefits, she left and bluntly refused my advances after, I gave up.
Fast forward, met her in Abuja, we exchanged contacts. She was still extra sexy, she is built the way I like women: slim, small breast, flat tummy and huge ass.
She asked me for financial favour via whatsapp, I gave her. Her Whatsapp status are her videos dancing seductively without bra.
I stopped viewing them, one day she sent them directly to me, but later claimed it was meant for another person, I am greatly tempted to ask her for sex just once to get her out of my thoughts But here is the problem, she was once friends with my wife before I got married, and they had a big misunderstanding that's before I met my wife, they have mutual friends, lots of them, I don't want to ask her for a fling, and she ends up telling her friends who might tell my wife, her seduction is too much.
WHAT DO I DO? How about don't cheat on your wife? Although you and I have the same spec of women you better be honest with yourself and your wife. You can't be dipping the same swallow in two different bowls of soup, better pick one or stop eating. |

KingSatan:

If she is from the South South, South West and South East and her only proof of education is a university degree, please forget it.
The way thos regions are going about marriage and marital rites, I fear for the future.
Just as how Imo State, most especially Owerri ladies are living with a stereotype now.
You see their ladies, old and unmarried. Better still, they switch to cohabition. All because of cultural modifications.
Parents see their female children and goods to be sold.
Ever wonder why parents in those regions give their children out to ritualists, kidnappers, armed robbers without hesitation?
You can find that in the North.
PS I am not a Northern but living with them for over a decade, I see that they have utmost respect for their marital institution.
Aboki can marry without having so much money. As long as he has a verifiable means of income.
On the day of Nikah, the bride's parents will settle her according to their financial strength. The news about Northern women that murder their husbands seems to go against this. A woman with little education or independence will try to stay married for the simple fact that she will starve without a husband. What else do you expect from people who force children into marriage. The stuff you typed about ritualists is just wrong. |

If you have a loved one in the service, you would appreciate what they're doing for you and this nation That is a big lie, those are just the ones off the top of my head that were recorded, what about the ones who threatened others to keep quiet about their crimes? The military is the main cause of Nigeria's hardship through decades of coups and looting, I doubt any of them truly care for the average citizen, just look at the way they treat 'bloody civilians' who dare to challenge them. They even beat up an NYSC official because he enforced camp rules. I have seen and my friends have seen what our 'gallant soldiers' do to defenceless civilians and watch as other 'good soldiers' help them cover up their crimes. Even the fight against Boko Haram police is pulling their weight while the army blindly attacked the police. Wasn't it this December that the army was collecting money from civilians then they abandoned the towns they were meant to be protecting because the Governor Of Borno criticised them? I can not appreciate an organisation that fosters such contempt for the people and laws they are supposed to be defending. |
