deenee: The concept of private equity is relatively new in Nigeria and was popularized during the privatization of federal agencies, deregulation of the telecomms industry and consolidation of the banking industry. PE investments in Nigeria cut across various sectors-infrastructure,agriculture, transportation and haulage, retail and hospitality, financial institutions, real estate, healthcare, tech, media and telecomms etc. Major players include Actis,ECP,ARM Capital partners,ACA,CBO Capital Partners, Alithelia Capital, ACM etc.So if and when the deal invested in goes bust or doesnt go well.....is there any sort of guaranteed returns for those that have invested in the Private Equity coys? |
torkaka: no be small thing! infact the vows on bokoharam alone don take west africa qouta! If I was to get a dollar for any vow made by GEJ.. by now I would have been a multi millionaire!! Whenever boko haram strike, the president nowmally makes vows to bring them to book, no boko haram member is brought to book yet for the many killings of nigerians. When the presidential panel that looked into the reasons for the pre election crisis submitted their report the president vowed to implement the report as HEAVEN WILL NOT FALL, that vow is not yet fulfilled after some 8 months. The house of representatives submitted the subsidy probe and the president vowed to bring those behind it to book, yet nobody is answering any question. What about the more than 500 vows by the president on his facebok page during the 2011 general elections? Have any one seen the light of the day? capital NO. The president should stop disturbing our heads with vows, vows, vows, vows, vows, we want actions. We want to see those responsible for this inhumanity arrested, prosecuted and if convicted sentenced to a very long jail term. |
tenry: @ Feelamong thanks bro. You ve indeed educated me today. Does Gtb have this package? I mean putting d money on call and also can I get the auction in Gtb? Lastly, how do I know my banker? I will appreciate it if I can get your mobile number for further discussion cos I'm presently pursuing my Masters on a full time basis and I wanna secure d money pending the completion of my programme to decide d business to venture into.Well am sure GTB should have the package...If they dont have it then vote with ur feet! You can hit me up on feelamong@gmail.com. |
Don1Dee: @feelamong, what is the meaning of the bolded? Plus 13th is next week aberrating the two weeks time you're asking people to wait b/4 they can bid in your first sentence above, could that b a typo error or...? Thnx.Sorry abt the mistake on the date...it should be 2 weeks before the next auction...the next auction is actually on the 20th of june and not 13th! Yea..in banks there is something called CALL DEPOSIT. This means that you place your money at an agreed interest rate with your bankers (Usually more than the normal rate for savings account but less than the rate for fixed deposits)....the main advantage here is that you do not agree for any time frame so you have the right to wake up the next day and ask for ur money back without any form of penalty on the deposit interest. All it means is that you can call for your money at anytime!! |
tenry: Thanks bro,pls what do u mean by putting the money on call? And pls how ll I knw when the next aution is out and finally, how much ll be given to me on 1million for 90 days.ThanksYea..Put the funds on call. There you will have the right to take it out at the shortest notice. My bankers usually keep mine on call at 4%P.A The next Auction is in two weeks time ie. 20th of the month precisely. for N1M at 13.5% for 91 days, you should be looking at an upfront interest of N32,532.50...after making adjustments for the Tbills charge of 0.125% |
Fhad: This my story is very sad that i will never want any of you to fall in there traps. It happen That i received a cash very close to N10million from a transaction on behalf of my company. After i notified my Director about the payment,i was told to keep the money in my custody pending the time he comes back to the country.so i deposited the money in to My Gt bank account.Sorry bro.. next time just be more careful and ask a alot more questions before keeping ur money with bankers...Personally I always ask people to make friends with knowledeable bankers, lawyers and doctors. I say friends cos they will always give you the friendly advise without the thought of making money/reaping you off due to ur ignorance. Now next time, just tell them you want to keep the money on CALL!! that way you get to earn some interest and also not pay any charges to the bloody bankers!! All you pay to them is the 10% witholding tax to the FGN which is only calculated from the interest earned!! |
tenry: I fixed 1million naira at Gtb since march and tomorrow is the pay back day.Pls can I still bid for the Treasury bill tomorror? If yes, how ll I go about it? Your urgent reply ll be appreciated as I'm planning to visit my branch tomorrow.Thanks.Bro.. U mised the train this time around! Usually I place my Bid on Tuesdays...the bank then takes it to CBN on wednesdays and by thursday afternoon the result of the Bids is announced. I will suggest that you liquidate ur fixed deposit, you put ur money on call for the next 12 days and bid for the next auction. |
whatelsedo: @feelamongYou missed the train Bro....From what I was told by my bankers; I have to bid on tuesday, cos they go to CBN with our bids on wednesdays.. Try the one for next two weeks time! |
This retarded president ought to have been impeached if we were in a developed country!!! I think the best thing for him now is to sack all these so called advisers around him! Always goofing!! |

http://af.reuters.com/article/nigeriaNews/idAFL5E8H60T420120606 NIGERIA MARKETS Nigeria's naira extended losses against the U.S. dollar on the interbank market on Tuesday, weakening to a 5-1/2 month low as foreign investors continued to pull out of government bonds. Nigeria's all-share index drops to a six-week low, as local funds switch to bonds for higher yields and offshore investors sell off their naira positions to repatriate funds abroad. nL5E8H58B1 [/b] |
miss naija: Which bank has the highest fixed interest rate in nigeria.I need urgent advice pls.I have some money with me to fix before I spent everythingwhat are you still doing with Fixed deposit when you can get a better deal in Treasury Bills? Talk to ur bankers on Tbills now!!!! if they canot help you just send me a mail to feelamong@gmail.com |
For us locals, this is our chance to key into the Tbills market especially as most foreign investors want to wait and see if Sanusi will allow Naira to devalue further (naira is already going for N162) On a personal note, I dont give my bankers any free money, they must pay for my funds being with them....what i do is to place all monies I have on call at 5% p.a and the rest I place in Tbills at 13 -15% p.a. All i leave behind is the one i need to go by daily in my current account maybe about 50k. If I have any need to pay a bill or for cash more than that amount i keep in my acct, I just call my account officer and liquidate some of the money on call into my current account to pay the bill. |
The foreign investors are only doing what they have to do...especially when there is fear of devaluation of the local currency due to the dwindling price of crude oil in the international market. They will first stay on the side line hold their dollars and be sure that the currency has been fully devalued after which they will come in back. they do not want to bear the risk of currency devaluation during the exchange back to dollars when their Tbills mature. As for local people like us, what difference does it make? If I put my money in the bank and Naira loses value, am losing value of my Naira. But for those who can wait, the idea is to convert the money to dollars, after the naira has lost the expected value and maybe trading at N200 to a Dollar, then we convert back to Naira and play once again in the Tbills Market. |

Am aware that the minimum anyone can invest in the Nigeria Bond market is N50M. My bankers who are primary dealers told me this...Is Lamberth stockbrokers a primary dealer on Bonds? please do clarify or are they investing people's money in another dodgy business while telling them that its the Nigerain Bonds that they are incesting the money on? |
Himalayas: @feelamong, Can someone invest with USD and get dividends in USD considering the volatility of our local currency. For instance I opt to invest 10000USD and collect my returns in USD.Am not sure you can invest in dollars....from what i hear; the dollars when imported into naija will have to be converted to Naira before you can invest. Then at the end you will convert back to Dollars to move the funds out. (but since you intend to move out the funds after; you will have to get a capital import certificate from your bankers out there. |

The Nigerian Navy personnel in the Maritime Guards Command, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has intercepted and arrested a vessel, MT Floris carrying 185 tons (about over 200,000 litres, suspected to be illegally refined Automative Gas Oil (AGO) on board. The vessel with an 11 man crew was intercepted while the officials of the agency were on routine patrol of the Lagos anchorage at the weekend. A statement issued by the agency and signed by its Deputy Director and Head, Public Relations, Hajia Lami Tumaka said the Naval personnel attached to the Maritime Guard Command, NIMASA, were suspicious of the 200 ton vessel when in the course of routine checks, its captain could not produce any papers stating the product it was carrying, point of loading and discharge destination. It stated that during questioning at Maritime House, the Corporate Headquarters of NIMASA, Apapa, Lagos, the captain of the vessel, Mr. Martins Odedele confirmed the illegality of the transaction, but claimed that he was an emergency captain and so was unaware of the illegality of the trip until he got to the location. “I have been in school for about a year now and just came back last week. I was asked by the owner of the vessel to be the emergency captain and was given the coordinates to get to the location which I accepted in order to get some money for the family’s upkeep. “I never knew it was an illegal transaction until we got there and it was too late for me to disembark as I had to captain the vessel back to Lagos. I was going to disembark and go away before your men arrested us”, Odedele said. The captain who said the vessel is owned by Jowal Dreams Marine Limited also confirmed that it was the owner of the company, Hon. Joshua Adewale that sent them on the mission. Efforts to contact Adewale as at press time were unsuccessful. Further investigations revealed that the product was loaded at Akassa, a community near Brass in Bayelsa State obviously from an illegal refining facility as the density of the AGO and its flashpoint are well below standard. Odedele and the Chief Engineer of the vessel, Mr. Alex Ebinum have been taken to the Naval Base in Apapa pending further investigations while the vessel and the other nine crew members are being detained by officers of the Maritime Guards Command at the Lagos anchorage. It was gathered that the tide of illegal refining activities has been increasing with its attendant loss of revenue to the government. Investigations show that these illegal refineries get their crude by bunkering oil facilities and this illegal business continues to flourish because there are ready buyers. The apex maritime regulatory agency, however, said it was poised to stem this tide by ensuring that all illegal activities in Nigeria’s maritime domain are checked. It added that it will continue to enforce its mandate with the aim of curbing illegal and criminal activities in the nation’s waters. By the provisions of the NIMASA Act 2007, the agency is responsible for the administration of maritime safety in the country has powers to arrest ships, non convention vessels and small crafts suspected of carrying out illegal activities. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/nimasa-intercepts-vessel-with-petroleum-products/117125/ |
http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/markets/bond-market/38853-fg-to-raise-n138bn-in-treasury-bills FG to raise N138bn in treasury bills The federal government plans to issue 137.97 billion naira ($862.58 million) in treasury bills ranging from 3-month to 1-year maturities at its regular bi-monthly debt auction on June 7, the central bank said on Friday. The bank plans to issue 32.97 billion naira in 91-day paper, 45 billion naira in 182-day bills and 60 billion in 364-day bills next week on Wednesday. Nigeria, Africa's second biggest economy after South Africa, issues treasury bills regularly to reduce money supply, curb inflation and help lenders manage their liquidity. The short-dated debt of Africa's top energy producer attracted higher yields across the board at the last auction on May 23 compared with the one earlier, due to concerns on rising inflation. |

efismikoko: Oga feelamong I tink business day made a mistake for the 1yr it shld b 14.30yea.. well spotted. You are very correct!!! It should actually be 14.30% for the 1 year tenor! |
efismikoko: This is real good newshttp://af.reuters.com/article/nigeriaNews/idAFL5E8GP4YQ20120525 Nigeria sells 126 bln naira in T-bills, yields rise LAGOS May 25 (Reuters) - Nigeria sold a total of 126.32 billion naira ($791.35 million) in treasury bills ranging from three months to one year at its bi-monthly auction, with higher yields on the paper than at the previous auction, the central bank said on Friday. The bank on Thursday sold 30.64 billion naira worth of the 91-day paper at a return of 13.50 percent, up from 13.19 percent at the previous auction. The 45 billion naira worth of the 182-day paper was issued at 14.14 percent, compared with 13.87 percent at the previous auction, while the bank issued 50.68 billion naira worth of 1-year paper at a return of 13.30 percent, lower than the 13.94 percent at an auction on April 10. Total subscriptions stood at 307.28 billion naira, a sharp drop from 513.42 billion naira demanded at the last auction, reflecting declining interest by offshore investors in short-dated debt instruments, traders said. High inflation and the declining value of the local currency is leading offshore investors to sell down their local debt holdings and repatriate the funds, putting further pressure on the local currency, dealers told Reuters. Nigeria, Africa's second biggest economy after South Africa, issues treasury bills regularly to reduce the money supply, curb inflation and help lenders manage their liquidity.
