A UK-used Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus costs less than 120,000 but will greatly enhance the quality of your pictures.

If you are an Apple fanboy then getting an equivalent iPhone costs between 70,000 and 150,000.

It will make a world of difference.

The phones maybe dated but the picture quality is not.

I went for the first one and they gave me 20000MB (20GB) data bonus valid for 7 days. That validity should have been at least 1 month.

After 9 months my 1TB data plan reduced to 3GB, so today I will renew the 1TB plan and see how long it will last me this time around.

I also got 20000MB (20GB) data bonus valid for 7 days.

I have zero intention of derailing this thread but I suspect the brand you have refused to mention.

Let me share with you why I have zero plans of buying another product from that brand.

Money is hard to earn, I want my money to work for me, the least years of service I should get from a fridge or freezer is 10 years, anything else is unfair. At 390,000.00 that is 39,000.00 a year, at 490,000.00 that is 49,000.00 a year. Forget the upfront cost, at those prices, you are getting a fair bargain.

Here is what a former assistant Chair, Department of Electrical Engineering at Wright State University between 1999 and 2009 said about that brand on Quora.

General Electric no longer owns “GE Appliances.” The entire manufacturing complex, in Louisville, KY, is now under communist ownership by a Chinese company called Haier. Haier-Qingdao purchased GE’s appliance division in June 2016.

Haier felt the U.S. consumer would balk at purchasing communist built appliances. As an attempt to disassociate “GE Appliances” with its Chinese ownership, they pay General Electric a licensing fee to continue to use the name “GE Appliances” and to stick the GE logo on each of their products. They do not advertise, nor attempt to make public, their ownership of GE Appliances. But if you pull up the GE Appliances website you will see in small print that Haier is now the owner.

Word is slowly getting out of Haier’s ownership of GE Appliances, so they started a new campaign and place “made in America” stickers on their ier is known forsappliances. If you go to Lowes or Home Depot, you see these on their machines.

It is true most of the larger appliances are still made at the former GE plant, at least for now. Haier is talking of slowly phasing out production of their appliances from Kentucky to their manufacturing facilities in China due to the great reduction of labors costs.

If you are not familiar with Haier, they became famous for selling the cheaply built compact (mini) refrigerators at discount stores such as Wal-Mart. Haier is known for several things, but quality is not one of them.

Whirlpool Corporation is a U.S. Company based in Bento Harbor, Michigan and has manufacturing plants in the U.S., Mexico, South America and Europe. Nine of their major appliance plants are in the U.S. In fact, the dishwasher plant in Findlay, Ohio is the largest in the world.

All brands of appliances have reduced quality over the years, from my perspective. Whirlpool still takes pride in their machines, parts are easy to get and they are relatively easy to repair, as a rule. I would stick with Whirlpool myself. I have a new Whirlpool refrigerator and it is virtually flawless.

As mentioned Haier was not known for quality, and as they phase out U.S. production of appliances to China, the quality of GE appliances may suffer even more. If you purchase GE Appliances you are sending profits directly to communist China..

By the way Whirlpool products appear under several trade names: Kitchen-Aid, Maytag, and Jenn-Air to name a few. Often the core mechanisms are the same with just a different logo on the machines, or a few different features, for each of the brands.

Postscript: Would it make sense to assume that Nigeria would be a target of such cheap devices that are not meant to last as well?

Pls does anybody know of a very good brand of chest or upright freezer?

A popular local brand I got few years ago just packed up. I decided to visit their showroom to get a replacement but to my astonishment, I discovered they are now selling generic China made products rebranded with their own brand name.
They obviously decided to throw their reputation and quality to the gutter for monetary gains.

You may want to consider Panasonic Chest Freezer in particular
CH150 Panasonic 150 ltr Chest Freezer whose price range is between ₦90,000.00 and ₦120,000.00.

If you don't mind spending much more then get their 500L or 750L tall fridge/freezer combos, the 500L will set you back north of 300,000.00 while the 750L will set you back north of 400,000.00

But then you are assured you spend good money to buy a product that is guaranteed to work very well for the next 7 to 10 years without issues.

The truth is that the Nigerian economy is in reverse gear, and very few of us can afford to buy based on quality, the majority buy based on price, so the sellers supply/market what will move

The mix formula that has been used by generations of builders to plaster our walls is the reason why nearly all Nigerian walls have water ingress.

This is another reason to buy or make the highest quality blocks that one can afford because in the end it boils down to how much water can it absorb and still hold/keep the house together.

Good morning Sir, at the bolded your mix ratio , I have read on this platform where someone use stone dust instead of plastering sand.

I did more research, M15 cement mortar is recommended because it contains the least fine aggregate aka plaster sand.

I will share the research in a bit.

In my opinion, the capillary action of the water also occurs through the plaster.

You may may a very dense plaster mix from the ground to the level of the water proofing barrier properly done as suggested by the experts including the whole ground floor.

This damp issue is manifests on the surface of the wall. Even though the blocks are more porous, I think there are several layers of mortar used to bind the bricks to slow the capillary action of the water through it.

My personal experience, I eliminated plaster sand when plastering internal walls.

My walls were very coarse to the touch and to sight, but my paints adhered like forever. There were no patches and no peels to date, and if memory serves me right, I did this in 2017 so this is 2022, some 5 years later this position is true. I painted it like that initially and felt like who cares, after all I overcame the patches and peels internally, in a house that has been fighting that for several years until I made that decision.

I considered it a badge of honor that a non-engineer achieved what the entire building industry seemed unable or unwilling to tackle.

That said, if you want a smooth wall, then do screeding afterwards. Same effect achieved, but now you have walls that water can't do damage internally.

You may spend more but you will have peace of mind.

Now I need to experiment by using the same mix to my external walls, observe and report.

I also did not economize on cement for plastering when doing the mortar mix, the formula is somewhere on this forum.

I am posting an article to this link to help homeowners and builder realize that when you build, if you want the house to last, you must do everything in your power to slow down water.

This is science and physics at work. You need to understand how things work first before you can change the effect on your build.

One more thing, I have read that capillary action is so powerful that it can raise water by up to 1m up your walls, so this mix does not have to be for the entire wall, it needs to be at least 1.5m and you are safe.

I did that for half the distance between the ground and the ceiling or about 153cm/ 5ft. I left the rest of the plaster from that point to the ceiling as is.

Talking about boomboxes, this reminds me of my dear Bose Soundlink BT speaker. I have tried to find an equal to it and believe me I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement after spending fortunes on two popular names - Anker and well, Sony dissapointedly.

The Bose was highjacked by my little sister who I can't say no to.

What drives your speakers? Curious? You could import the exact speaker you want. I am waiting for Black Friday to import these Sony SS-CS3 3-Way 4-Driver Floor-Standing Speaker - Pair (Black). I will be driving them with a Kenwood KA 907. There are more expensive speakers, but at this point in time, I have zero justification for spending more than $1,000 on speakers. I prefer to spend more on a high-end integrated amplifier.

We are not saying the other inverters don't work, neither are we saying the other brands of blenders don't work.

We are saying for how long will they work?
We are also saying what extra features do they have?
We are also concerned about the quality of the workmanship and engineering that goes into the product.

That is the driving factor in the final purchase not just the price.

Let me give an example.

Can you compare high-end high fidelity audio equipment like Accuphase or the now discontinued Kenwood with the boom boxes sold in our markets today?

The sound reproduction is not the same. Yes both will play sound, but the difference is as clear as the difference between night and day.

This is also why even those discontinued Kenwood models fetch top dollar today.

Well, it's not just about the brand names, especially when dealing in the Nigerian market, but also the availability of the real deal.

As far as these electronics are concerned, there are "products made for Africa" which are always below par what they produce for the US and Europe. This is especially common for TVs like LG, Samsung and Hisense. I have LG TVs purchased directly from Fouani (LG direct rep in Nigeria) and also a year old used imported from Europe. Mehn, you need to see the clear cut difference. In quality, the Europe model trumps the one from fouani many times over.

So my question to you is if you got these Panasonic and Daikin ACs from Nigerian reps which will in effect mean you're likely offered "Made for Africa" model or you had them imported as Europe models?

Agreed, that it is not about the brand name, but the source of the brand, my research led me to the direct representatives. I got it from the direct representative, and got it installed by a certified installer.

My Panasonic was made in Malaysia, we have have made in China and made in Indonesia. My Diakin is made in India.

That said, I am trying out Daikin having been thoroughly impressed by Japanese technology in Panasonic. Need I say I got a Panasonic blender that has lasted over 15 years and works as new, never been repaired. Daikin is also Japanese.

I am sorry if I caused any confusion by using cheap instead of affordable.

My first AC brand was Panasonic, the second AC brand was LG, the experience was as clear as 7up. Panasonic is way better.

The third AC brand is Daikin, I picked Daikin because based on my research it is as good as Panasonic if not better. I just got it today. My reason for sharing is that I researched the brand, I researched their technology, I studied comparisons between Daiken and Panasonic, before I decided that Daikin is worth my money.

I try to make purchases a logical as opposed to emotional decision. I was at their shop last week, got data and then got home and studied those and more before deciding. I did them same before picking my 1.5KVA Homaya. I did the same before deciding to go for the 8kva Schneider. Now I am about to do a comparison between Schneider and Victron.

There are certain bells and whistles that attracted me to Schneider, and I gather those bells and whistles are in Victron but not in Deye.

I agree that Deye is more affordable, but for some reason I don't love the brand as much.

Maybe I should research Deye more deeply, but for now my mind gravitates towards Schneider and Victron based on features and not pricing.

Your concerns are noted. That said when I wanted to buy an AC, I got Panasonic because of their reputation for quality, last week I wanted to get another AC, and did some more research and two names popped up, Panasonic and Daikin.

Needless to say there are other brands which maybe cheaper.

But quality to me is more important than price.

I am interested in Schneider and Victron precisely because of the bells and whistles. I want more than a barebones inverter.
