Sir, I've checked the wattage. My calculations shows it's 1014.9 Watts altogether.

I'm surprised at the wattage of a few of the devices: Zbook laptop 200W (charger), I don't know it should be this high.
Also, LG 70" UHD 4K is 20W, I was expecting this to be higher. So I'm confused, maybe I'm not checking the right info.
Someone said that the wattage is suspect, so get a watt meter so you can be accurate.

About the fridge and freezer, they have starting current and running current. In plain English, when you turn on the fridge or freezer, it draws more current to start operating than it draws to keep operating.

That starting current draw can be 3 to 10 times the running current draw.

So let me repost what an internet resource I stumbled on said:

"As a general rule, the inverter you choose needs to be rated at 5 times the running current wattage of your refrigerator. In most cases, this will make sure the inverter can handle the running power of the refrigerator, and the surge power required to start."

So make sure you get these facts:

1. Continous power rating (Watts)
2. Surge power rating (Watts)
3. Input voltage (Volts)

Before you can conclude it is appropriately sized for your application

Do you have a mail trail? Initiate a mail trail to them with full details, receipts etc and copy CPC. Consumer protection Council. You can Google them. They are Nigerian and they actually work. Or they did years back. Haven't tried them recently.
You are out of date brother.

It is now FCCPC, no more CPC

Hi y’all,

I want to warn members and the general public from buying from energymall.ng especially solar panels.
[img][/img]
I bought 4 units of 350w solar panels at 77,000 each for a total of N308,000. They showed me the original Felicity panel as sample and then shipped me fake 180w panels. I hope those panels are up to 180 sef.

Find picture of said fake panel nameplate below. All effort to reach them after has proven abortive.

It’s difficult doing business in Nigeria if people are looking to rip you off at any chance that they get. If only someone had posted their experience online, I wouldn’t have fallen victim.

Please do not buy from energymall.ng they will scam you
Would you need help recovering your money?

Sorry about this.

I think this vindicates the move to tell how our experiences with vendors went, whether we ended up buying from them or not.

Please preserve payment documents and any other communications with them.

Let me share something one of the world's most popular security experts once wrote:

"Learning and honing any skill takes time. The length of time depends on your level of focus and interest, but this can be greatly influenced by the quality of learning materials. I believe that someone who is motivated can learn about anything on a near zero budget if they are willing to devote time, attention, and dedication. Materials such as paid courses, and even this book, simply do the research for you and accelerate the learning process. Therefore, a good learning strategy takes advantage of the resources you have available.

For those with a tight budget, you should expect to do a lot of research and self-learning. However, there are many benefits to this. Autodidactic learning is the process of figuring out something or solving a problem on your own. Conducting your own problem solving can make you a stronger investigator. Performing investigations and gathering intelligence are often exercises in problem solving. When we are given all the answers, we do not strengthen those important areas of our brains. The beauty of open source intelligenc is that it builds upon itself. We are learning to get better at conducting online research, which is a skillset that we can use to locate new techniques for improving our online research. "

So once again, it is all up to you!

So let me break it down.

You see these certification organisations have made it look as if those trying to break in into the cybersecurity industry can't and won't do without them and hence create a standard that literally doesn't exist but because they have a first mover advantage, they become a standard for themselves and for others.

Let me use CCSP for example. (ISC)² borrowed most, if not all of the body of knowledge they used in developing CCSP from CSA's CCSK.

If you go to their site, they even acknowledged it. It all about money making venture for them. Tell me why should someone keep paying maintenance fee for a certification he/she wrote?

Do a side review of CCSP and CCSK, you will be shocked to the marrow. (ISC)² just switched some things here and there and made it seem the exam is a tough cookie to crack.

Do a review online too. Check Quora. Check LinkedIn. If you have a CCSK, you can still apply for jobs with CCSP. The main thing is that you have the experience to back it up.

See hustla, I'm not discouraging you but there are many ways of breaking into this field without breaking too much sweat, although you will still sweat to learn and spend money smiley.

I hope my useless sense will make sense to you. Shalom brother.
I have zero certification.

BUT

I bought books, set up labs, and spent the time and networked as my life depended on it.

I have made millions

So it is all up to you.

You can be anything if you set your mind to it.

You made a lot of sense, maybe I will do this one since it is maintenance free!

Greetings to the elders,
I was here about two years ago..., think I'm finally ready to join the solar team. How do I get the best setup at reasonable price?

The house is a 3 bedrooms apartment with an home office.
What we intend to use the inverter for are as follows: 3 laptops, 1 LaserJet printer, 1 refrigerator, 2 TV sets with decoders, about 10 bulbs.

Other loads such as pump and heaters will be powered by generator when needed. The printer too, may be removed from the list.

Please I needed all the help I can get.

Thanks in anticipation.
Can you get the wattage of these devices?

The more accurate the load, the more accurate the determination of the most appropriate inverter setup

And what purpose would that serve? Another 3 pages of arguments?
From the story you told, the guy only blocked you which led to him missing a trade. Not like he defrauded you or insulted you. Right?
Your gain, his loss. So why stretch it further.
Because people are asking for reviews.

Reviews on products and reviews on sellers.

It would serve that purpose.

It can be done without adding to the length of the thread. The poll is open for 48 hours. If those in favor of the release exceed those who are against it, it will be released, and vice versa.

It might also help vendors to realize that when you operate in the public eye, you may need to be circumspect in your dealings with clients and potential clients.

It might also steer clients towards more reasonable vendors.

Cc samnaija.

Any tubular battery that requires topping up once a month is either being charged poorly, with less than 14.3v or isnt carrying any serious load or isnt being cycled regularly...ie rarely goes above 20% DOD,.....2 to 4x a year is normal topping regime.

Too frequent topping like once a month accompanied with battery getting hot to touch is a sign of a dying battery
Thanks for this, will share it with my brother.

And we will then determine what next to do based on this feedback

What's your experience if you care to share?
Here is my experience, I have decided not to share the name of the vendor, not that with a little bit of digging and adding 2 to 2, the vendor cannot be identified.

I contacted one of the most prolific advertisers of solar panels, inverters and batteries on nairaland.

I was given pricing.

I then delayed in concluding the deal.

In the meantime, the advertiser reached out to me a few times to inquire about the deal. I did not respond.

When I was finally ready to deal, I sent the advertiser messages, but the messages were not delivered.

I conducted some tests that revealed the advertiser had blocked me.

I smiled.

I then said what nonsense!

In my line of business, clients and potential clients can ask for quotes and only buy 9 or 10 months later or even a year or more after, I never ever think of blocking them because they did not buy right away or did not respond to requests for the status of the potential order.

I then started looking for those who sell the same thing locally ( I am based in Abuja, the advertiser is based in Lagos).

I found one, but he said he didn't have it in stock, but pricing was perfect. I told him oh great.

Will buy next week.

I went to his office around 4pm and he complained that the equipment isn't in his store, that it is in the warehouse, and that it would take some time to get it, I said I would wait, he said its late that I should come back on Monday if my memory serves me right.

I sort of got the vibe that this guy does not have the equipment and is sourcing it from third parties.

So, I then started doing the same thing he did, went to the vendor site, got the list of authorized dealers, worked the numbers until I got the guy whose bread and butter is inverters, batteries and solar panels.

I ended up getting it cheaper than the cost of buying it from Lagos, and without the need to pay for shipping from Lagos.

If I wanted to buy from anyone, I would buy from those who have contributed immense intellectual capacity to this thread.

Why should I buy from someone who is only interested in come and buy from me, but when the potential buyers are asking questions, they don't answer.

It is pretty obvious, who is in it for the money and who is in it because they love the field.

If I wanted to do something this technical, I would get the vendor training and certification to back me up, any other thing, it is clear this is a way of making money and not something those advertisers do because they love the field, in fact, they will drop ship as soon as they can catch the scent of the next big thing that can bring money.

Tubular /flooded batteries is fine, it depends on how heavy you use your system determines how soon you refill with distilled water. Some systems is twice a year, while some is once a year to top up batteries.

There are guages on the batteries that signify which cell needs distilled water.
Don't know it is because of the weather up north, but my brother uses Tubular batteries and has had to refill more than once in a year.

Good morning all,
Please I am planning to go green and need your input on which is a better option between flooded and AGM/SMF batteries as I plan on getting it.

With the proper maintenance (battery rotation, equalization, etc) which amongst the 2 will last longer (I can't currently afford to get a new 24v lithium bank).

Proposed set up.
1. 1.5kva 24v luminous hybrid inverter
2. 4x 350W panels
3. 60A Techfine or Powmr MPPT CC
4. 24V 200AH to 305AH battery bank.

Any other other advice will be very much appreciated

Thank you
Flooded? be ready to be buying distilled water, and maybe also be ready to use a hydrometer to test the state of the acid

The other type AGM/SMF - not SMF means Sealed Maintenance Free, that is what I went for.

I got Quanta. I am buying Deka next. Those seemed to be the best that money could buy locally.

I also have 2 No. 1.5 KVA inverters, Schneider brand. But since there is a partnership between Schneider and Luminous and Schneider bought into the brand, I want to believe the Luminous must be that good.

I don't yet have solar panels, so no comments on the MPPT. My alternative charging source is my generator.

My batteries are 12V 200AH. Why buy any less? It means reduced backup time.

My setup is a 24V 200AH x 2.

Can't comment on how long it will last, cause my setup is not quite a year old

I have 4 fangpusun products en-route straight from manufacturer..all costing about half or a third the cumulative advertised prices of some sellers here.

Please big sellers should pls be more humane in their price listings, because once one can smell that buyers are being exploited on a certain product they lose faith in other items advertised.

That is largely true and it is because many "dealers" here are just middle men trying to make a living on enthusiasts who don't want to go to the market. I almost paid for 300W flame solar panels here until my local installer got them for me from Alaba for about 10K lower. What they do is to advertise goods in other people's shops as their own. It is the reason why they also try to put people under pressure to pay fast as the "stock is small". I personally would have preferred that this place is reserved for hobbyists and enthusiasts while marketers and middle men set up their own thread.

Add an email to your nairaland signature and I will give you all the information to help you bring down the cost.

I am willing to share the information, but if even venture capitalists (non-Nigerians) say that there is information that they can willing to put online and information that they would only share in person you have to understand that I am not trying to hide anything from you, my concern is with the method of passing on the information.

Anyone who attended the talk "How to apply and succeed at Y Combinator" which was delivered by Dalton Caldwell, YC Partner and Head of Admissions on Monday 8 August 2022 at 12 GMT-4 will appreciate where I am coming from and where I am going to.

If you decide to share it online after I share it with you privately, it is entirely up to you.

I was simply trying to avoid the grey market.

Contractors will understand this, say that suddenly, some company or agency decides they want to award a contract for the supply of 2000 Toyota Camry's.

Two kinds of people will bid, those who have always sold Camrys can support the buyer if they have issues with their vehicle.

There are those who can how they can make a quick turnover by selling 2000 Toyota Camrys, they have zero support structure after sales. The client is on its own.

When I deal with clients I go all out to provide them support after sales, so I cannot expect any less.

I would rather do business with the first set of people than with the second set.

Buying cheaper than advertised market pricing turned out to be an unexpected side effect.

Please where did you get both at wholesale price?
Can you do a google for authorized distributors of whatever brand of battery you wish to buy?

The same goes for the inverter.

Next, find out the minimum order quantity to qualify for wholesale pricing. If you can buy that quantity yourself, you got yourself a bargain, if you can arrange a group to buy the same thing.

It is not my intention to destroy livelihoods by sharing the name of the distributor for the kind of inverter and battery that I am using.

You know very well that some people advertise those stuff here. It is not my aim to put them out of business.

It may be easier and less error prone to do this calculations at the single battery level.

So each 12v 150Ah battery holds about 1,800Wh and the max discharge at C10 is 180w per battery while at C20 is 90w per battery.

I do not believe any of these basic lead acid batteries can indeed sustain C10 discharge and maintain the cycle life so you are better off with;

A conservative C20 discharge of max 180w-200w for your two batteries to give them a chance to live very long or an aggressive C10 discharge of 360w-400w for the two batteries if you don't care too much to max out the life.

If you incorporate solar and your system properly sized, you may have headroom to run larger loads during the day directly off solar without depleting the battery.
So basically, how does one run all the loads or larger loads directly off solar when they say you need a battery bank to provide reference voltage?

Secondly, you raised the issue of properly sizing the system, that means using an MPPT not a PWM right? Can you provide additional pointers if the point I just raised is moot.

so this is the thing - and this is why i said you may nit have EXHAUSTIVELY reviewed the ISPs plans. swift has unlimited plans, and unlimited night browsing plans

by that i mean - the unlimited night browsing plan is a capped plan in which your night browsing is not measured. it is different from the unlimited lans - i know this because i have tried them in the past, and the max speed i got was 300kb/s.

so if i am using a swift free night browsing plan - from 11pm to 8 am my downloads are measured as part oif my subscription, and the speed is not throttled. this is actually why i switched back to swift. i started with swift years ago, moved to spectranet which is cheaper, but spectranets free night browsimng plan was DELIBERATELY difficult - it was between 1 am and 7am. this meant that even with setting up dopwnloads etal al, i would usually have to wake up at one am to be absolutely sure my downloads were running. then , out of the blue they starterd throttling - and that was when i went back to swift

the other reason why i opted for an oem router is because most of these huawei and zte routers, in addition to being locked to a network, have poor management features. i wanted a device that would let me block some websites from source, track exactly who is abusing the netwrok in the house , maybe even impose limits on users. these MNO routers, the last time i checked are limited on these features.

zoom, teams, google meeet all have ow bandwith settings under preferences. you can set your video to SD rather than HD.

if you really want to know EXACTLY where your data is going, install glasswire. you will immediately see which apps are eating data and you can regulate them accordingly. you cam also install on every pc in the house. in addition to this, you can track users internet usuage on a lae model TP link router. i will however advise that if you plan on buying a tplink, buy from abroad or from a fairly reliable seller. i keep hearing there is nothing under the sun in nigeria with regards to dodgy/refurb/firmware modified items.

glo is fairly reliable as a telco, but as an ISP . . .

the issues are nmot limited to my home, they are literrally everywhere. it is so bad that as i said, if for instance i am going to kano, i immediately switch to MTN for data. Glo is really weird because it just has multiple dead spots. there is a hospital in my area. once you go to a point in the hospital, glo simply stops, but MTN works fine. and the start stop of glo is really really terrible.
Seen,

this is a placeholder comment, to be updated when I can find sometime to respond to the issues you raised.

i actually prefer to simply buy an oem router /modem so i can switch at will. no need to any router locked to a network
you will also note that i DELIBERATELY cited some locations where ISPS are based

also, your list is far from exhaustive in listing out plans.

most of the ISPs have a free night browsing tier - not all those 4gb free night browsing etal - UNLIMITED free night browsing

i am a heavy user, and i do not do netflix etal- i download my tv shows and movies from the high seas. i also update AAA games - which can slap you with 30gb updates.

that 1tb plan will die very quickly if you are downloading prey in 2160p

if you are a light user, no problem - you may enjoy the MNOP plans. but if you are a HEAVY user, you will run out of data frequently, especially now that most of us have our kids sharing data plans with us.

as an aside

Glo has no business being listed. their MEGA plans come with mega unreliability

the other day they actually called me to tell me of their new plans - and i told them why would i upgrade an already unreliable service. they started telling me that it was because my Sim was not 4G. then they had to backtrack.

Glo is so bizarre that on my ipad mini 2nd gen the network is limited to 3G. i actually thought this was an issue with the ipad - until i put in an MTN sim and lo and behold, my ipad had 4G.

i finally bought an airtel sim yesterday because of this.

within my home, glo nework fluctuates. it fluctuates outside the home as well. it is so bad that when i have important online meetings and (i am out of swift data)i immediately switch to MTN which costs more but is RELIABLE.
You said:

I respond thus: what I have chosen to do is to buy a router/modem per network excluding Etisalat because to a large extent it seems that Etisalat is a VMNO.

You said: also, your list is far from exhaustive in listing out plans.

I respond thus: I agree with you.

You said: most of the ISPs have a free night browsing tier - not all those 4gb free night browsing etal - UNLIMITED free night browsing

You said: i am a heavy user, and i do not do netflix etal- i download my tv shows and movies from the high seas. i also update AAA games - which can slap you with 30gb updates.

I respond thus: I am a heavy user, my 1TB plan now has less than 100GB left, and I will now subscribe to another 1TB once it is out, I just want to know how long I can use it, so I can plan for my usage better. I subscribed to it on 1/1/2022. I have Airtel as my backup. I plan to add MTN as my backup of my backup soonest. I also often do 12 hour long Zoom meetings back to back (that is today and tomorrow) did that first week of August, will do another next week. Check out how much data Zoom videos consume per hour. That does not include at least 4 other 2 hour Zoom meetings every week guaranteed.

You said: that 1tb plan will die very quickly if you are downloading prey in 2160p

I respond thus: In respect of your paragraph 5, I do a lot of Netflix, sometimes me, sometimes my guests, I am also heavily into YouTube for educational purposes. I have grown too busy for games, but I relax by watching movies.

You said: if you are a light user, no problem - you may enjoy the MNOP plans. but if you are a HEAVY user, you will run out of data frequently, especially now that most of us have our kids sharing data plans with us.

I respond thus The problem with everyone in Nigeria doing unlimited data plans is that they throttle the data. Read the fine print.

You said: Glo has no business being listed. their MEGA plans come with mega unreliability

I respond thus Glo can sometimes be unreliable agreed, but at some point, Airtel was unable to stream Zoom videos at all, I don't know why. I had this experience and so did my friends, but Glo did. Last two Sundays, Glo couldn't download a 1GB file, but Airtel did in 10 minutes. I think unreliability is common to all the networks at different times. When I used to travel the whole country, the network that was literally everywhere was Glo.

I remember when I was at Bwari and noticed poor network connectivity, I informed Glo and they came and upgraded the equipment so much so that when I visited Bwari again, I had 4G reception and better speeds, maybe you should make a case for your area.

I don't use Smile that much these days but I will agree that they did provide a more reliable connection than Glo when I did.

To use radio, the MNO must visit your site and do inspections and tests to confirm that they will have line of sight with their base, and you will sign a agreement for at least 3 months of service.

This is what embassies/hotels, etc use, so if you are a truly heavy data user in Nigeria, you have to use radio

Agreed that the likes of Swift, Spectranet, Smile exist.

I don't necessarily agree that they do.

I have used Smile so let me compare and contrast Smile with Glo.

Sample Smile Plans
Data Value 125GB, Validity 365 days, price 50,000.00
Data Value 200GB, Validity 365 days, price 70,000.00
Data Value 500GB, Validity 365 days, price 100,000.00
Data Value 1000GB, Validity 365 days, price 120,000.00

Equivalent Glo Plans
Data Value 138GB, Validity 30 days, price 20,000.00
Data Value 225GB, Validity 30 days, price 30,000.00
Data Value 525GB, Validity 120 days, price 60,000.00
Data Value 1024GB, Validity 365 days, price 100,000.00

What we usually do is buy the target plan, then buy smaller 30-day plans to extend/stack the validity to as long as we want. That way you will spend less than you would spend on Smile.

That said the unlimited data plans based on radio are truly unlimited, no data cap, the data caps apply to the data plans based on mobile numbers, but the advantage of the data plans based on mobile devices is that at least with glo, you can share the same plan with up to 5 numbers from the same network. Does Smile and go have something similar??

The other advantage of the reach of the MNOs, which the likes of Smile and co can only dream of.
I hope this helps.

I am also of the view that the cost of devices to access the network is higher than the MNOs.

What of cost of data.
I have been thinking about this for all these cameras that you can view over the phone and co

How much data will this consume ineba daily or weekly basis
All the networks have a 1TB N100,000.00 plan (mobile).

All the networks also have unlimited data plans based on radio with defined speeds and SLAs from as low as 1mbps to STM-4 speeds (stationary).

And soon we shall have Starlink from Elon Musk, equipment costs $99, data prices yet unknown but we have heard it will come with unlimited data.

Use ratio 1:2:3 for the concrete floor with 125-150mm thickness for medium to high vechicular loads.
Very good advice.

Failure to follow this is why many driveways need to be rebuilt every year

Plus the lack of usage of rebar

Copied from an internet resource in support:

What is the best concrete mix ratio for driveways

To withstand the weight of vehicle traffic, choose a concrete with a strength of 4,000 pounds per square inch for your driveways,
Regarding this, what is the best concrete mix ratio for driveways, one of the best and highly recommended concrete mix ratios used for concreting driveways is 1:2:3 (1 parts cement, 2 parts sand, and 3 parts aggregate), this will produce approximately a 4000 psi concrete mix. The strength of this mix ratio is ideal, commonly used, standard and good for driveways.

I worked this route before so I had to share

For SPDs the Midnite SPDs for AC and DC applications are top tier.

Schneider produces some Acti 9 SPDs as well which are more budget friendly.

Whatever SPD you choose, you just need to match the mcov and clamp voltage ratings to your equipment.

Again you probably shouldn't use an 100k SPD to give additional protection to a 300k inverter.

For the ultimate protection you would need SPDs and voltage and overcurrent protection on the mains input, SPD on the PV input and SPDs and overcurrent/shortcircuit protection on the inverter AC out.

The costs of protection stack up pretty quick and you may need a risk assessment of your site to decide where best to put your protection dollars.
Based on some of the statements above quoted, I conducted further directed research and found this https://blog.se.com/power-management-metering-monitoring-power-quality/2013/03/19/how-to-choose-the-right-surge-protector/

Expertt, hope this helps you some more.

Basically you need at least 2 SPDs and 1 MCB

SPDs
1. Mains in aka grid power coming into your premises, think of it like a bridge between your entire house wiring and grid power
2. PV in aka your solar power supply, think of it like a bridge between your entire house wiring and your solar panels

MCB

1. Inverter out aka the power your inverter is supplying before your equipment received it, think of it like the bridge between your equipment and your inverter

However, SPDs work with earthing, which I believe is best left to an electrical contractor to install, because the excess current needs a safe return path

Little wonder then that @Niyi rightly makes the point that complete protection will be expensive!

That is why there was a poster that said this is not a DIY thing, but even if it isn't, if you don't gather some knowledge, you will be lost communicating what you want to your electrical installer or even determining if he is doing a good job for you.

The risk assessment part might be best reserved for professionals, but like the adage goes no knowledge is worthless
