GOD BLESS AMERICA

The country that i love and keep close to my heart, a country that your dreams can come true if you are hardworking, a country where you can attend any college or university without a penny in your pocket throught loans and scholarships.

Whao, its amazing this thread is still alive!!!!!, i joined this thread in August 2010 because i was interested in coming to the U.S for graduate studies and potentially become a citizen of this great country...this thread is part of my success story today, the likes of OJAP, SEEDORD, FEMILANGY, FEMI2020 are part of my success story, my strategy was watch, listen and dissect information from this thread and mold it to my benefit, and that worked for me when i went to the embassy for my student visa interview...( check dec 14 2010 for my interview details on the thread).

With that been said, my journey in America has been a success story with a lot of hardwork, optimism, and dynamism. To cut the long story short, i have two masters now and work as an Information Analyst with one of the biggest banks in the world, i never came here with any large money, i was just optimistic, hopeful, looked unto God . Yea, America is not easy like people say (FOR LAZY PEOPLE), but if you are ready to study hard, beleive you me, you will be ok and not lack.

The purpose of my long epistle is to encourgae you guys....(the ones that are really ready to come study and become someone in life), do not let anybody discourage you, follow your heart and passion, i am a living testimony, i landed at JFK with 70 dollars in my pocket in dec 2010 but as of today i make almost six figures/annum working as a SQL DEVELOPER, i never knew anything about I.T while in Nigeria, but because i was determined to be a change agent for my generation, i strived hard, focused on my masters and through the Grace of God, i dont lack anything because am highly contempted with what i have.

P.S

THIS IS A GREAT THREAD, IT CHANGED MY LIFE AND SOME FRIENDS' LIVES, DO NOT COME TO THE THREAD WITH THE "I KNOW ALL MENTALITY" RATHER, COME HERE TO ASSIMILATE INFORMATION. THANK YOU ALL AND BEST OF LUCK.

Whao, am really surprised and at the same time happy a life impacting section like this is in existence.I work as an Analytics Consultant in one of the top banks here in the States,SAS is our main analytical tool though we use Microsoft SQL Server, OBIEE(Oracle0, SAP Business object, Crystal Reports.Analytics is the fastest growing IT sector in America at the moment and the demand for professionals is crazy here. Am really happy this section was created on Nairaland.

IF you know you are capable of acquiring professional skills like SAP,ORACLE,SQL,BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND OTHERS THAT WOULD BE GREAT.I CAN BOLDLY SAY INDIANS ARE THE ONES IN CHARGE OF ALL MAJOR ORGANIZATION HERE IN YANKEE IN THE IT AREAS.WHY SETTLE TO BECOME A BARBER OR MECHANIC IF YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THE BRAIN TO LEARN THESE SKILLS.ALL YOU NEED IS GODS GRACE,HARDWORK(READING A LOT)AND BE CONFIDENT.

Nice and Informative Post. Please if you are coming to Yankee, just like the moderator said....acquire some skills that are IT inclined..with that the sky is your limit.Sensible nigerian guys here in Texas are making as much as 7k dollars/month because of these skills they have.A white man will pay you the right money if you possess the skills needed.Am a good example by Gods grace and have only been in Yankee less than 3 years.

phizzle14: please a friend of mine came from nigeria in jan.n she stays wit me,,she was removed from status last month n she doesnt have ssn,,please guys i need advice for her

Phizzle....ssn is not what your friend should be thinking right now!!!!.Officially she has a grace of 5 months to be reinstated back through her school

International Office.Yankee is all about having a plan A and B.Before i came to the states, i knew my money will only last for two semesters(jan-dec) for

tuition. Before the end of my first semester i was in a relationship with a sweet and educated lady and some few weeks before the end of my second semester we were

married. When the spring semester for 2012 started in January of this year, i couldn't register because i owe the school so i called them and told them i was married

and have filed for adjustment of status based on my marriage to a USC.I FILED IN FEBRUARY AND I HAVE MY GREEN CARD NOW.I will be going back to school in fall and

sallie mae already approved my application for student loan.So if your friend lacks fund which is understandable, what she should do is to get married to a USC and file for adjustment of status or else she will receive a Notification To Appear before an immigration judge from ICE!!!!!.I quite understand how your friend feels at the moment coz have been in that situation.

Hello house and happy new year!!!.I have been emngrossed with settling down here in yankee oh,its not easy but we go survive.

I want to thank the founder of this thread once again because the informations i got here really played a major part in me securing my F-1 visa last december.

For the Fall 2011 applicants, all i will say is apart from praying, you guys should take time to read the thread from the very beginning before you go for your interview coz t

the informations you guys will get will really equip you guys intellectually and this goes a long way in getting your visas.I wish u guys best of luck!!!

N.B, for those looking for schools with tuition in the range of 5000-7000dollars,i will advice you research about schools from

TEXAS
OKLAHOMA
NEW MEXICO
LOUISANIA

Apart fromt the fact that they are less expensive compare to schools in the east coast of america, scholarship opportunities are avalaible most especiallly in texas

universities. Also i will advice if the Fall Applicants can have one or two certifications just to add to their resume because this goes a long way in making scholarships

easier to get in Texas universities(talking from experience oh).

Ojap, how far will be coming to california during summer oh so get ready.

If any of the Fall Applicant needs assistance concerning their application that pertains to the aforementioned states,

Best of Luck!!!!

@ seedord, had my interview in lagos.

there were four consulars,3 men and a black american lady, later, the chinese conducted interview after she was through with biometrics.

@house, my personal opinion, try as much as possible to avoid the ladies coz i was able to deduct that the male consulars are applicant friendly and they

give applicants chance to talk and remember use professional terms when explaining.chikena

@ house , i need the cheapest airline to dallas, help your brother.
Travel / Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by femiap: 8:03am On Dec 14, 2010
@ house, am not really good at narrating so pardon my errors or whatever, lol

i was interviewed by the man i was trying to avoid because he denied an undergraduate lady and a very old lady right infront of me.

but as the saying goes,"if God be for me,who can be against me".

Plss to all spring applicants yet to go for their interview, the consulars are not interested in whatever documents you bring

all they r interested in is what you say and how you construct what you say

He never asked for any standardized test or where did you finish from because i never gave him the chance through my answers to his question

out of the 9 or 10 student applicants for 10am appointment i think 5 werre given.no master student was deny sha to the best of my knowledge.

like aroy said, pls speak professionally!!! it makes d interview easier.

and for masters s apllicant, pls try and dress like adults coz the way you dress is the way you will be address.

i wanna thank everybody in the housee for their posts and prayers and support.

@house,

VO:good morning

ME:good morning sir

VO:i can see you are going for an MBA programm

ME:yes sir

VOsadholding my i-20,vo started talking to the next vo while they were both staring at the i-20 but i strained my ears so i cld grab watever these oyinbos were saying and i heard something like my son, engineering*me thinks vo wants his son to attend the school*
WHY DID CHOOSE UR SCHOOL

ME: Sir,since am aware i will be investing some months of my life and my dads money,i considered some factors which include, history and tradition of the school,MBA teaching method because am more inclined to the case study method of teaching, the course content of the MBA,as i was about explaing that ,the vo cuts in and says, there r different types of MBA,executive, full time per time so which one r you going for and i said full time.

VO:what do you do

ME: i work in a stockbroking firm as a business development executive

VO:for how long?

ME:2 YEARS

VO:are you paying or the company is paying

ME:my dad sir

VO:DOES HE HAVE A LETTER TO THAT

ME:yes sir*me gave him the letter

VO:SO DO YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO STOCKBROKING WHEN YOU GET BACK

ME;Sir i know i will be more marketable to employers when i come back there increasing my earning powers so i wont have an issue getting a job, actually i have had discussions with some banks and some consulting firms because sir,i see myself as a business development consultant in the next 6 years, *vo nods head.

VO: do u have any statement from the bank to show me

ME: gave him my dads statement of account

VO:whao, you ve got some funds to cover all the expenses

ME:YES SIR

VO:sir,i will be holding back your i-20 and your passport, by this time it was as if my ears were blocked with concrete, all i was saying was yesir thank you sir

VO:SIR,thats a great school you r going to,do have a wonderful experience.

@james2020, pls do not go the embassy with an I-20 stating your course as ESL

Am talking from experience way back 2001 when ESL was stated on my I-20 as my course of study.

Went to the embassy five times and was denied though i told them i was admitted for computer science.

What you can do is to get in touch with the school and tell them you need an I-20 with your course of study stated there or else you wont be granted the visa.

@house, i applied for an expedited visa interview on 21st of november and my mail was replied two days ago informing me to come for my interview on

the 13th of december.

For those looking for date, send a mail to lagosstudentvisas@gov.state or abujastudentvisas@gov.state including the following information,

Name of school, expected date of resumption,MRV receipt number, passport number, sevis number, appoinment daate you booked on vfs website, course of study.

@djunit, am still rolling on the ground with laughter over your statment about if you r to come to naija, lmao!!!.

@house, it took me 4 months to get a university with a tuition fee of 10k dollars, what am saying is if we carry out our research well, there are cheap schools in america most escpecially texas.Another thing you must consider is the town or city where the school is,my school is a town of 8,635 people and because of this i knew instantly accomodation will be cheap compare to the new yorks,LAs,bostons and so on.as a matter of fact,am going for MBA full time and my tuition fee is 10k dollars(i was even told it was 8k dollars during Fall 2010) while my room, board and the rest is 7500k,but like i said i believe in research,i have browsed the net to check out the cost of 2 bedroom in the town and to my amazement 90% goes for 600-650dollars per month and am planning to get an apartment with a friend which means i will be paying 300dollars per month for accomodation
Am divulging this info to help peeps on this thread that will be applying for admission later on, dont be deceived by those big name universities or the cities they are,the main thing be say make we get the pali from yankee come back naija con dey use am chop your employers.

@naggy, i have two friends that went to the US for their masterss this august and we all played the visa lottery together,so basically i dont think it affects you F1 chances.
@dantecmu, Dude i dont think you are in the position to advice anybody to apply for visiting visa instead of student visa because of money issue.Nobody is saying the educational journey will be easy but with hardwork and positive mind things go better.
This thread was created for us to encourage each other in relations to studying in the USA,if we all want to get yankee visiting visa we know where to go.
Even if ojap was bragging as claimed by you,as a man you shld have kept it to your humble self because this young man needs encouragement and motivation not bad mouthing.I dont have anything against you oh but just want you to know ojap trust the peeps on this thread for him to share his issue, and remember problem shared is half solved!!!!!!

@ojap, just be positive, its not easy to be a man,how much is your tution fee for the whole master program?
@house, for those considering studying in the US,there are schools with tuition of less than 1.8million,just do your research very well and also for peeps like me,i made sure i got a school in a state where work is easier to get and tutiton fee is very very low compare to other states!

@superbrain, pls i need your view about this issue, a friend of mine applied for the spring 2011 and his currently waiting for his I-20.He later found out his elder brother in yankee just filed for immigration visa on his behalf,so he wants to know if that will reduce his chances of getting his F-1,also if he is asked at the embassy if he has a relative in the US should he say yes or no.

@Ojap, Love your spirit bro, i strongly accept the points superbrain gave, also i believe you telling the consular there r some oil companies around the area where you can carry out research while in school propbably made the consular feel you wont come back because you might end up bn employed by the oil companies.I will strongly advice yo take along a study leave like superbrain said.Cheers bro!

@ House, we spring 2011 applicants lets come out and rub minds oh because 30 good heads are far better than 20 good heads oh grin
