TravelRe: Promise & Fail: Student With Kidney Disease Faces Removal From UK by Focusmind: 7:18am On May 30, 2024
People should stop using UK's education system as a route to Japa. The truth is, 99% of students are actually planning to stay over after their studies. Reason why Indians, Nigerians, Chinese and Bangladeshi people are in majority, because most of them are just economic migrants, with education as the easiest route to japa. The Universities in UK are selling immigration and not education. If the lady in question have letter, evidencing that her professor promised her funding before coming for the PHD program, she should tender it. Nobody sponsors himself or herself for a PHD program overseas. Ph.D abroad is very selective and Professors must take you as a student first, before the Registrars processes your admission. Moreover, funding covers only tuition and research expenses and not living expenses - this one that she is also complaining of inability to settle her accommodation. Did the professor promised to take care of her accommodation as well? I hope it is not format, as we Nigerians are never short of format to use once there is a removal order.
Foreign AffairsRe: IDF: We Have FULL Control Of The Philadelphi Corridor on the Gaza-Egypt Border by Focusmind: 9:28pm On May 29, 2024
Palestine would have been more developed and progressive if they had accepted Israeli authority from 1949. Trust me, Israel would have deployed their human capital to help develop Palestine. But since Palestinians sees Israelis as enemy, there won't be peace. It is better to live in peace and prosperity under Israeli occupation than to live in poverty and misery under Hamas rule.
PoliticsRe: Renewed Hope or Dashed hope?: Rate Tinubu's Administration In One Year by Focusmind: 9:08am On May 29, 2024
Lets give him one more year. The demands of being a president could be overwhelming. People should not just criticize him, but offer concrete advise. My main concern is his health. He doesn't look strong and energetic to superintend over huge demand of his office. That is why some of his aides would be messing around and not doing their jobs. I don't know why APC just ignored the Star boy, the former VP, Osibanjo. He would have fared better and manage the country better as a President. The truth is that, he was much liked by people across Nigeria than any of the contestants from LP or PDP or NNPP or APC.

My advise to the President is that, he should work towards exchange rate stability, rein in inflation, improve security and power.
PoliticsRe: President Tinubu Receives Tony Blair In Abuja (Pictures) by Focusmind: 6:05am On May 29, 2024
The president should ignore this " jobber". This has been the Hallmark of former British PMs. While in office, they won't assist you on anything. But once they leave office and forms one NGO or join one international agency, they will be looking for developing countries to partner with, and milk them. Tony Blair, David Cameron, Gordon Brown,
they are all the same. Looking for mumu countries to fund their NGOs and interests. Nigeria should not partner with him on any nonsense NGO or contribute a dime. He should go and meet Sunak or the British people to partner with them. By the way, is it just a former prime minister that the president and this large entourage received and hosted? It seems people are not busy in the presidency. I hope they won't fly this visit as an achievement. Tony Blair can't visit Nigeria without any " benefit-in-kind".

Emmmm, who tricked Ado Bayero out of that palace?
Very vital question. The man should have maintained his stand if he knew that there was a judgement restraining the Governor from removing him. Having vacated the palace, the chances of him returning is remote.
FoodRe: Can You Buy This 20k Bread In This Present Economy? by Focusmind: 7:44pm On May 27, 2024
Is it better than "bokku supermarket " bread? People don dey queue to buy that bread like shoprit bread.
TravelRe: 3 Burnt To Death As SUV Collides With Truck In Lagos by Focusmind: 7:37pm On May 27, 2024
Another one even happened inward Marina this morning. Multiple collisions as you descend the bridge off Apagbon, involving a tanker loaded with compressed gas and four other vehicles. Thank God, all survived.

Many of the comments here are from kids unborn at the time. I remember the movie like yesterday. Nigeria was really backward in thinking. I’m surprised the military regime at the time didn’t put a halt to our young industry.
That movie was the first erotic movie I watched. Nollywood was booming then and people were always anxious to see the next release. I watched the movie then with my sisters and it was so awkward watching that scene then. Honestly, It was shocking that the military was just aloof and unconcerned about the movie industry then.

Try jam them in a supermarket. You will be wondering if this hard economy is not affecting them. The way they stuff their baskets and shopping trolley with groceries and consumables will shock you, especially those ones that comes to mall with their olosho girl friends.
SportsRe: DNA Test Reveals Kayode Olarenwaju Is Not The Father Of His 3 Children by Focusmind: 2:53pm On May 25, 2024
Some men could be careless and less observant. You can't carry your child in your hands, looked at the child, watched the child made her or his first steps, watched the child cried, laughed and exhibited certain traits without seeing some of your features or that of your family in that child. This only happens to men who are not involved in the growth of their children.

Congratulations on his recovery!

But quoting all those Biblical verses after using scientific approaches is tantamount to deceit. Why are Nigerians so full of deceit? angry angry

If prayers are that effective, wouldn't ambulance be taking people to Church rather than hospitals? angry angry

Pastors will fall sick and go to hospital for treatment. Members will fall sick and go to pastors for healing. Who is deceiving who gan self? huh huh
You dey mind Nigerians. If you talk now, the religious fanatics will call you names. For me o, science over religion; reality over hope; Truth over deceit; hardwork over prayers

EducationRe: Favour Ugwuka: EBSU Student Commits Suicide After Failing A Course (Pix, Video) by Focusmind: 5:48pm On May 23, 2024
Nigeria's higher institution system is nothing to write home. I can't even believe that I passed through the system. Lecturers exhibiting wickedness towards students and treating students like trash. Mehn, I felt what it meant for one to pass through a higher institution during my masters in UK. I saw the commitment of my Lecturers, department and school towards my development. I was treated with respect, likewise other students.

Is Keir Starmer, the Labor leader ready for the post of PM?

Sunak may still have an upper hand. UK is a conservative enclave.
EducationRe: Nigerian Students In Teesside University Ordered To Leave UK by Focusmind: 1:59pm On May 22, 2024
I pity them. However, they should not accuse the university of being "heartless ". The university must have given them warning and notices and even agreed on payment terms with them. Institutions abroad follow due processes in doing things. Sadly, default would still happen. The university will have no other options than to remove them. You can't work to fund your studies abroad but some people won't hear. They will always want to believe one fairly tale of how someone was able to work and pay his fees. Twenty hours pay week is insufficient to muster the kind of money that would pay your tuition fees and living costs.
HealthRe: Margaret Oyibo Atayi Allegedly Commits Suicide Over Failed Marriage by Focusmind: 10:15am On May 22, 2024
The family of the lady just wants to heap the unfortunate incidence on the husband. She may have been having a challenging marriage but I doubt if She committed suicide because of that. Something else must have happened to her and the lady's family wants to use the opportunity to deal with the husband, whom they felt is not a responsible man.
FamilyRe: Lady Refuses Husband To Packout Of Home After She Called The Cops On Him (video) by Focusmind: 6:42am On May 22, 2024
I don't understand this comments from some people that, "She still loves him". Listen to what the man said, that since he married her, he has not had piece of mind and happiness. How could the woman have loved the man and still unable to make him happy? Marriage and love is all about making the other person happy.
PoliticsRe: Makinde Celebrates Tobi, Daughter’s Graduation From Yale University by Focusmind: 7:52pm On May 21, 2024
The money he spent to train his daughter in Yale University can comfortably turn around some department in LAUTECH or refurbish some secondary schools in Ibadan to high standard. Yale is not a small school. You pay close to $60k in that Ivy league school.
PoliticsRe: Obidients Must Stop Engaging Reno Omokri On Social Media by Focusmind: 1:47pm On May 20, 2024
Also, blame some ignorant obidients for entertaining the man on twitter. Obidients are fond of replying every messages, even from a lunatic. They should cultivate the habit of engaging less on social media.
PoliticsRe: Minimum Wage: We Won’t Shift Ground On ₦‎615,000 Demand, Says Labour by Focusmind: 7:52am On May 19, 2024
Labour's demand is unrealistic and unreasonable. That would make the inflation even worse. But I don't blame. Nigerian government are known for profligacy and waste. You can't keep telling your citizens to make sacrifices while keeping retinue of aides and advisers with huge salaries.
Foreign AffairsRe: In Canada, Bodies Go Unclaimed As Costs Put Funerals Out Of Reach by Focusmind: 6:45am On May 19, 2024
Oyibo and data. I like how they use data to analyse everything. Once you don't want to do anything or reason for doing it, it would be noted and at the end, responses and data are analysed. Thousands of unclaimed corpses are littered in Nigeria morgues without their kith and kin knowing where their loved ones are. There are thousands of unidentified corpses brought by police and security agencies.

TravelRe: Ghanaian Man Told He Is Not British After 42 Years In UK by Focusmind: 6:27am On May 18, 2024
Gerrard59:
Interesting. I look forward to see how this generation of japa folks would do theirs.
Some of the current ones are still in touch with home. Remember that some travelled abroad purely on economic reasons and not because they didnt like home. The problem would be their children. Some of their children may never knew their homes, grandparents and cousins in their lifetime. I have some that have taken the difficult path of bringing their children to school in Nigeria just to get to know Nigeria and their home town. One will be sending his 13 year old son to stay in my house as he would starting secondary school in September.
TravelRe: Ghanaian Man Told He Is Not British After 42 Years In UK by Focusmind: 6:33pm On May 17, 2024
I don't understand why some of these older Africans don't like going home, even after working for years abroad. We have one that has been in UK for 47 years and has not set foot to Nigeria and our village. His brother recently died and he never bordered. My mum said when his parents died in the 90s, he didn't come. His only brother just died last month, and was recently buried, he didn't come home
BusinessRe: Naira Depreciates To N1,540/$ In Parallel Market by Focusmind: 10:14am On May 17, 2024
What is happening, bikonu? Just as we thought that the naira was having the best run in weeks.

Transacting in foreign currency now is becoming more extremely expensive.

Imagine those that bought dollars at N1100/$ early last month. They would have cleaned out big time at this current rate.

This is the reason why people would continue to trade in currency. It seems more profitable than running a business

Someone that bought $20000 at N1100/$ makes a profit of N8.8m just within six weeks if he decides to sell the dollar at N1540/$.

I hope there is no government hand in the manipulation of this currency rate.
PoliticsRe: Donald Duke, Peter Obi & Barth Nnaji At Dele Momodu Leadership Lecture by Focusmind:
Barth Nnaji: One of my respected mentors in Cheveron told me that Professor Barth Nnaji was his former lecturer at the University in US. Very astute and well respected during his University days. That the man was always researching and producing papers in learned journals, working with professors across the globe in energy and electricity. I like professors that are committed to academics, not handouts and low quality book sellers.

What do they want from him? He is an old man for God's sake. The kidnapers has mate their Waterloo. I pray for his quick release.
Ransom, of course. Do you know how much would be paid to free that high- calibre priest? It is like kidnapping Father Mbaka or Bishop Oyedapo.
CareerRe: Nigerian Soldiers Weep After Comrade Killed In Attack by Focusmind: 9:02pm On May 16, 2024
I don't know why our soldiers always look like a ragtag army. They should always be well kitted like army set in battle. They usually don't look glorious and intimidating in war zone like sambisa. Please take a look at other armies around the globe, especially in Europe, North America, Asia and Middle East. You will see a soldier in full glory with admiration. Not polo - wearing, slippers or canvass - wearing soldiers with ancient AK47
PoliticsRe: Onitsha River Bank Modernization By Gov Soludo (video) by Focusmind: 12:12pm On May 16, 2024
Ttipsy:
Look at how the newly constructed Niger avenue looks like where they rear pigs

Pls onithsha pple can do better!
Decency and decorum seems to be scarce words in Onitsha.

Same thing we see in some parks in Lagos, where touts and mad people have taken over most of the parks and green areas

See the modern oshodi bus terminal that Ambode built, the place is now fully habited by Agberos and people selling one thing or the other. Nigerians are far from keeping public places neat, tidy and maintained.
PoliticsRe: Onitsha River Bank Modernization By Gov Soludo (video) by Focusmind:
These are things that should have been done since if previous governors of the States had the foresight.

Onitsha has the qualities to be a top and modern city because of the structures and how industrious the people are. But sadly, previous governments have not been alive to their responsibilities to modernize that city. It is a marvel and beautiful coming into the city at night from Asaba end of the head-bridge. The skyline of the city would be obvious, showing the alignment of multitudes of high rise buildings that gives the city a look of a thriving, prosperous and bustling city.

Kudos to Soludo! He should build a boardwalk around that Marine and make that place a recreational center which the city lacks. All the internal road works of the city needs to be rebuilt and put an efficient and working street lights.
BusinessRe: World Bank Blacklists 58 Nigerian Companies, Individuals Over Corruption by Focusmind: 12:00pm On May 16, 2024
Nigeria and her people. Companies and individuals will collect mobilization and payments to deliver on a job, but will abscond after collecting money. These are the main issue. Despite the vetting and disclosures that organizations like World Bank and international agencies demands from contractors before awarding contracts to them, lots of contractors would go and forge those documents to get jobs, which they will later abandon after collecting money.
