Press CenterThe African Hotel Report 2017 - Nigerian Hotels are the most valuable on the African mainland Published 09 October 2017Nigerian hotels are the most valuable hotels on the African mainland, according to the African Hotel Report 2017 that will be released at the Africa Hotel Investment Forum in Kigali tomorrow. Despite the economic problems experienced by the market in recent years that have seen values fall by 16.4% in the last two years, average values are the third highest in all of Africa, behind only the Seychelles and Mauritius, according to David Harper of Hotels Partners Africa, the report’s author. Nigeria is the most significant hotel market in West Africa, with almost 6,100 branded bedrooms across 41 hotels, with 21 brands (and 14 hotel companies) represented in 9 cities. With a population of almost 192m, growing at an estimated 2.6% per annum and with the largest economy on the continent, it is unsurprising that more hotel projects (61) and more branded bedrooms (10,313) are proposed here than in any other country on the continent. “This report shows that the hotel industry in Africa is still a very good investment, despite the cyclical nature of the property market. However, good advice is vital to help ensure you make the most of this very promising investment opportunity and avoid some of the potential pitfalls that can ensnare the less experienced hotel investor”. JoebieII: Cairo Airport won it in 2017 for "its continuous efforts to heighten the airport’s safety procedures" (TAKE NOTE). The awards is given in reference to improvement. It's not necessarily an award for the best in safety. Let me say it for the last time.
That does not mean, you are now better than Cairo Airport in 2018. You just got the recognition for your effort in improving safety. oga I don tire oh.. love truth na. Past glory. We are talking about 2018. It's better because infrastructures are considered before giving that award. Now, it suffices to say, Nigeria would have been in the better position to host the AFCON if we bidded for it. |

JoebieII: Or should we change the argument to the timing of when the infrastructures were put in place? Nigeria would still lose BADLY.
They already have an automated people mover in place in Cairo Airport. And that is great. What you called a downgrade to a light rail network to the airport. Still baffles me Oga! You brought past glory to suit your argument. I have been to the best airport in the whole wide world and I can tell you they have different means of transportation within the airport but the ultimate is the rail lin that will move you into the centre or nearby city after helping one to bypass traffic congestions. You don't know anything eventhough you have travelled allover the whole wide world. |

Go to the year in question on the Luxury Hotel award site, type Egypt, then type Nigeria. You can do that for 2017 as well.
Modified You can also use the category as your search term, that would return all the hotels that won under that category. you can also use the type (e.g Continental, global etc) as your search term. Just play with it for some time and come back. No Egyptian hotel won in 2018. Hard fact. |

JoebieII: You mean even with the link I gave you, you couldn't do a simple search with "Egypt" under 2018 awards?
The ACI award was given to Cairo International airport for the same reason -- the strides you have made in improving safety measures. I could be better than you in safety, but I was in the same place the previous year. just because you made drastic improvement from your previous state you can be given the award. Just a little bit of sincerity on your part will end this discussion. I have done hence my conclusion. They don't have. Prove me wrong with captions of 2018 written boldly on whatever snapshot you get on those hotels. Oga! If you don't know mellow. ACI safety award is one and Abuja international airport won it ahead of Cairo international airport in 2018. Meaning, it's better than Cairo international airport dwelling on past glory. Accept this fact and move on. Chikena! |

I also listed the nominations for 2018 in another post. They didn’t win any but were in contention in most hotel categories. What does that tell you? How many nominations did a Nigerian hotel get? How many Nigerian hotels were nominated? Are u paying attention to the categories in each case?
You are still on this ACI case. Okay, did you read the description of the award Abuja airport won? It’s not neceaaarily the best airport in terms of safety but the best improved airport in safety. Are u telling me u didn’t get what I said earlier or you are simply pretending? Show me. I know Egypt 'hotel' didn't win any of those awards in 2018 else show me. Like you said, anything 2017 down na past glory. For your information, Safety award is one. Winning it means the best in safety. Currently, Abuja international airport is better than Cairo international airport. Fact. We are not talking about past glory here.

Joebie: You had said Nigerian hotels are winning awards ahead of Egyptian hotels. That’s a lie. More Egyptian hotels have been intentionally recognized till date. There is a reason for the categories. Meaning you are making comparisons based on the category of the hotel. Fraser hotels can serve certain purposes but not all purposes. But the fact that the the hotels in Egypt covered a wider range of categories that clearly paints the picture of who is clearly ahead in terms of hospitality. Same can be said when we move to other infrastructure. Your earlier statement was very misleading. Congrats to Fraser regardless (But what happened in 2018? Past glory)
Only small people take arguments personal and resorts to personal insults. It is clear who has an issue with self esteem from our long argument.
The Cairo international airport which u have been trying to downgrade is the 2nd largest airport in Africa and has gotten multiple norminations in the World Travel Awards. We dey talk of airport that has been in top standard for over a decade now. What reputation does Abuja airport have besides winning the best airport in terms of improvement in safety? Make we talk truth. We are still trying to get things together. These countries are ahead of us.
https://www.worldtravelawards.com/profile-306-cairo-international-airport Since you are quick to tag Fraser hotel 2017 award past glory, is it not convenient to say Egypt's hotels are past glory? If not show me any Egyptian hotel that has won world luxury hotels award, world travel awards, etc in 2018. Let see if you will still grasp for straw. As it stands, Nigeria's hotels are winning these awards ahead of Egypt's hotels. Gbam! Note; I don't want restaurant or food categories awards. Comparing ACI award with WTA is like comparing FIFA categories awards to CAF categories awards. Fela say 'no bi saaaamu category ooooo.. cati..go..... category...' ACI award is the zenith in aviation industry. I say you no sabi anything. Abuja won the ACI award in 2018 ahead of Cairo international airport. |

Joebie: Here we go.
Now let’s go over to the official site not a Nigerian paper reporting a hotel’s claims
https://luxuryhotelawards.com/winner/the-12-annual-world-luxury-hotel-awards-winners/?sorts%23winners-table%5Bhotel%5D=1
Now do a simple search by typing the country. Your celebrated hotel will be returned as the only hotel from Nigeria that got an award. Now look carefully at the category and the region in question. Does the region say Africa as a whole? See snapshot below. Do a similar search for other countries and tell me what you found
The award type is regional. If you are confused by that search other countries
Cc Mickael2 You are just grasping for straw. Give it up. You don't know anything. Seven Stars Luxury Lifestyle and Hospitality Awards, and World travel awards are different from world luxury hotels award. Transcorp Hilton won these awards at the regional level for the third and fifth year running respectively. Like I said, give it up. You are embarrassing yourself.

I dunno why some people will just conclude that Nigeria doesn't have the facilities to host the AFCON. its nonsense... We have hosted the afcon,U-17 and u-20 world cup,all Africa games and many other sport events within the last 20 years.. We have the facilities . But getting our stadia ready to host this afcon within 6 months plus other things involved in organising the tournament will be difficult... We are in an election period. There's simply not enough time. Even the South African FA didn't receive the support from their government when they decided to bid for the tournament cus it's also an election year there and their economy isn't really good ATM...
So,given the current state of event in Nigeria,we can't host the tournament.. .. The thing just dey pepper me for mind. How can dey just assume Nigeria doesn't have the facilities to host AFCON? Anyway, I just wanted them to know we can host the AFCON based on the facilities on ground but if we say we can't due to the upcoming election, no wahala. I partially agree. |
