Today, I went to island as I promised though for another purpose. However, I managed to search for the ministry of communications house. The first place I went to was NECOM house. I asked the security guard I was looking for Communication building but the guy told me that was not the place. . Now, I have it at the back of my mind that Communication building is different from NECOM house hence the search began. My guy, the communication building I saw was not more than 7 storeys. However, I noticed most of the buildings have changed names from what they were called previously. Probably, they must have had tenants or landlord. Anyway, I don't know the actual name that Communication building is called presently. Therefore, it could be hard to locate but until then, I will strike it out from the list of skycrappers Nigeria has. So that our lousy neighbors can dream of having a chance to surpass us in numbers of Skyscrapper built. Pictures I snapped on my way to NECOM. Beautiful.

Initially, it was meant to be a 16 storey but was modified to 20/21 storey. Well, the heights will determine if it qualifies for Skyscrapper. Weldon sir.

How are you rich 2 million barrels of oil a day x $60 is 120 million us dollar a day divided by a population which is 180 million you find out each nigeria and less than 200 naira per day. Please can you stop fooling yourself the only way nigeria is surviving is a few of the nigerians abroad which are sending money back home the second biggest income for nigeria is money remittance and you cannot keep on on a parts of money remittance because now most of the nigerians in other countries are now building houses in those countries. That is why nigeria's economy is now tumbling because they nigerians abroad are no more sending money back home they are building lives abroad and staying abroad. Next time you want to fool yourself look around you look how many are rich how many are poor you will find most of those rich people about 90% of them is their children abroad supporting them. How did Lago state pay salary without government allocation during Obasanjo's regime? Where you born then? |

NairobiWalker: The problem with you is that you rely on what somebody says than what is actually on ground. Just the same way you claim a building exists but can't show us its picture or which street it is on other than telling us a foreigner told you so. Now that those places you mention are planned on paper and are recognized as planned areas while a city like Paris just grew into a city naturally, are those places better planned than Paris? Have you heard of Baron Georges-Eugene Haussmann? He did the planning or you call it redesign. It was not built like Nairobi. |

rvp20183: You're talking estates in Lagos - Eko City is 5Kms sq - I am talking Nairobi - something close to Abuja.Nairobi has always been planned. The rest are details. Nigeria cities are so un-planned - they are slumpolis. You can basically build anything anywhere anytime. Lagos is different from Lagos state. That you should know now. There are many cities in Lagos state and Ikeja happened to be the capital. It is a planned city on its own. EAC is a planned city on its own and still part of Lagos state. Victoria Island, Lagos Island and Ikoyi are what is known as Lagos. They are planned too. Yaba and Surulere are also part of Lagos. Lekki is a planned city on its own and it's is still part of Lagos state. There are other places like Badagry, Ikorodu and Epe. These are cities in Lagos state. They stand on their own. I hope you have learnt something. The only place we have highest concentration of slumpolis in the whole wide world is NAIROBI. |

genieluv: Simply true. For instance, not until I came across this thread did I even know the importance of pictoral views of cities. ***** I have come to the conclusion that Nigeria may be seriously lagging behind in terms of development, but it seems like we definitely have more developing urban areas per population compared to other African countries except South Africa. And this definitely occured due to the early proliferation of Nigerian states. Do you think this military era proliferation of states was good for us? >>>> For me, I think it was good but we would have stuck with the first 12 states only. As this would have given us 12 very powerful and better developed cities today compared to the dozens we have now (many of whom are shadows of their past selves). The bolded is undiluted fact. Nigeria has so many developed areas that are even better than capitals of some African states. All things work together for good. However, I think we need to restructure the country. Places like Jos should be raking in millions of dollars from tourism, mineral resources and weather but due to some restrictions, Jos or plateau state is not living up to it's potential. I think when that is done, there will be competition that will spur city development. |

Lazy Kenyans say EAC has just 2 towers.
What Kenyan whites can never achieve
They think its a child's play reclaiming land and developing it.This reason makes Lagos the most planned city in Africa.
Nairobi CBD is poorly planned and they compare with a CBD that has its Arena totally planned.
Continue to show us more
Don't forget to expose that wrought of a CBD poorly developed by their whites Honestly, Kenya is not near Nigeria in terms of development. Nairobi is way below the pecking order compared with planned cities in Nigeria. The early they accept this simple fact the better for them. |

rvp20183: Nairobi is a well planned city. There have been lapses as the city grew rapidly but generally Nairobi remains a planned city. The first masterplan I think date to 1948. Then next major update in 1973. The 1984. The I think 1993 and recently there is new masterplan.
The nearest you have to a planned city in Nigeria is Abuja. The rest are pure mess. From the article I read, Nairobi metamorphosed from a mere train station to a town. It was not planned. The 1948 plan was only for the CDB area but was badly implemented while the whole remaining parts were left to develop naturally. Bhuhahahaha! No wonder, no part of Nairobi is recognised as a planned area. Unlike, Nigeria that has many areas recognised as planned areas. EAC is planned. Ikeja is planned. Lekki is planned. Victoria Island is planned. Ikoyi is planned. Festac is planned. Banana island is planned. All these cities within Lagos state are recognised as planned cities. Bonny island is recognised as a planned in Rivers state. Abuja is planned in FCT. Centenary city is also planned in FCT. The world knows about this undiluted fact. Poor Kenya. You don't have one single planned city. Even the one planned by the colonial master covers CBD but wasn't executed. |
