Definitely, he can not learn now. It is late. He is now a box to box player. However, I feel he is not perfect for the box to box like Arturo Vidal. That was why Conte played him wide some times and had Vidal do the protecting.
I think Mourinho should reduce Pogba's defensive responsibility and give him more license to attack. The time to learn has passed with the heavy price tag on his shoulders.
I say he brings Rojo back into the defence and play Blind and Fellaini in defence/central midfield. Giving Pogba freedom to move from the midfield to attack. This will make him utilize his skills, pace and shot power. That is it. If he allows him that freedom then his skills and shot will be well utilised. |

Talent wise, one of the best in the World. I believed that before he left Manchester United.
Paul Pogba is one player that I had interest in. Followed him from when he joined Manchester United in his young teens.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson felt he was not ready and brought Paul Scholes back from retirement. SAF wanted Pogba to know how to control the midfield with simple passes. Not the wild runs, the mazy dribbles or the breathtaking skills. Do it the simple way. Unfortunately, Pogba was not ready to learn and left. Sad Conte could not pass this knowledge because Pogba still does not know how to keep it simple.
When you watch Pirlo or Thiago Motta play, you feel their presence. Watch Fernandinho against Manchester United. He owned that midfield. It was his world. Drop Pirlo in that position and take out Pogba and Pirlo will take over.
That is what Pogba missed not sitting on the bench and watching Scholes. He felt he was ready. This is something that comes Natural to Mikel. The simple and beautiful way. Even without Pirlo he was still doing it for Juva last season. Bros, the lad is more of a box to box midfielder and not a deep or holden midfielder. That is his style and I don't think he needs to be forced to play shot passes when he is good at long passes. Besides, he was assist master in the Serie A league. So, what does he need to learn again? |

TheGoodJoe: Very easy to tell. Who gave them a debut at Senior level? That will tell you the club they are a youth product of.
Pogba = Manchester United. Sad he did not stay to learn under Paul Scholes. A season of two with Paul Scholes would have made him top notch. Bros, I think Paul Pogba without Paul Scholes is already a top notch. One of the top 10 best player in the world. |

Icon4s: If those players were that good how come with all the years they have been playing professional football they have remained in less competitive leagues? IMHO they cannot make that extra sparkle u are talking about. Not every player would get to play for the Super Eagles. Gone are the days when we will b trying one Anthony Ujah, Joseph Akpala or Peter Utaka all bc they are banging in goals in some less competitive leagues.
Isaac Success who has played in the Seria A, La Liga and now the EPL to me is more fanciful than Kayode hu has only played in Ivory Coast, Israel and Austria.
Clubs aside Success is a more talented player and is currently on a rising curve. Success in my opinion deserves a call up ahead of Kayode and Adi. As for Kehinde Fatai. Mayb most u guys jst started knowing him. He was one of the 3 strikers we took to the 2009 U20. The other 2 were Odion Ighalo and Danny Uchechi. Fatai flopped most amongst the 3. Only Ighalo managed to put up an average performance.
I am not completely rulling out Fatai. He has obviously improved in the Eastern European leagues where he has played almost all thorough his European career but I don't think he has enough for me to say "he is the man we have been waiting for". You mean Anthony Ujah played in 'some less competitive league'? O I see! Werden Bremen is a slovakian club. Pls be informed that Anthony Ujah scored double digits goals in the Bundesliga in his two short seasons. Joseph Akpala nko! He was banging in goals in the Belgian league consistently with the 14 times Belgian Champions Club Brugge. Thank God Lars took him to the World Cup on merit. Peter Utaka was only given 7 caps in National team and he didn't disappoint with 3 goals. You said if they were that good.... they should have progressed to better leagues. Well, let me help you with the history of how they progressed. Kayode Olanrewaju starting playing professional football at the age of 16 years. He signed for Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast which had produced best players in Europe and Africa. The likes of Yaya Toure, Kalou, Gervinho etc were groomed there. From there he went on loan to FC Luzern in Swiss and Maccabi Netanya a second division team in Israel until his 4 years contract expired with Asec Mimosa. It was there he singled handedly helped the club with his goals to gain promotion to the Israeli premier-league were he also became the 3rd highest goal scorer in his first full season in European league before he moved to 24 times Austria Bundesliga's Champions, European winners Cup finalist, 4 times UEFA Champions League quarter finalist and one time semi finalist. He was also the 3rd highest goal scorer last season in that league and he helped his team to qualify for the Europa group stage this season with his goals. Meaning within three years in Europe, he has progressed to play in the European league, expecting to be competing with the likes of Manchester United, Inter Millan, Roma, Ajax, etc. Hopefully, if fortune smiles on him, he will get noticed in Europe with his goals and one bigger club will come calling for his services. What else do you expect from a lad ignored for players playing in China, academic, and bench warmers etc, to play in the National team ahead of him to progress? Isaac Success never played in the Serie A though he was on their book. Isaac Success should not be given National team Jersey just like that without a fight he should prove himself on the field of play. A living dog is better than a dead lion. A player doing well in Europa League should be considered ahead of a player warming the bench of some bigger clubs. 2009 don waka pass tete. Pikin wey dem born for dat time don start to dey play ball wella. If Kehinde fatai does well in Russian league this season, he should be called ahead of Aaron Samuel who also plays in the Russian league. Afterall, Ahmed Musa was invited to the National team while there . Na only em flop? Kelechi Iheanacho no flop 4 under 20 world Cup? |

joseph1013: I'm still trying to find the words to coin the title of the thread, but the objective is simple: This is a thread to discuss the progress of our young players abroad, just like Orkpekyandega suggested.
With the inability of our U17 and U20 players to qualify for the continental, and subsequently global, competitions, the former threads have been rendered inactive. This means that we are poised to miss the emergence of another generation of very promising players in the mould of Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Osimhen, Nwakali etc, but this thread aims to scouts the ones who are fortunate to find themselves abroad and thus distinguishing themselves.
Welcome

Sone Aluko deserves a call-up. Bros, Sone Aluko is a natural left winger. I followed him from his days in Aberdeen to Rangers before he moved to Hull city after he had failed trials with Juventus_F.C. Believe me, he played better on that wing than the attacking midfield position he played for Hull city. In fact, he played better for Hull city on that wing before he diminished on attacking midfield position. Moreover, he is down the pecking order because he is playing in the second division of English league. It will be unfair to call him ahead of those players listed. Even Ramon Azeez is ahead of him now because the boy is not just playing but also influencing his team with goals at present. But statistics this season shows that he has 2 assist and 1 goal to his credit. He also played all his five matches on the attacking midfield position. Good! |

This season we have a lot of players playing in the best clubs and leagues in the world. This season some players move to better leagues. And many of them will be playing in European league. That is good for our football.
I want to focus on the attacking midfield were we have fewer options but I think it is no longer an issue.
Apart from Mikel Obi who obviously is the number one choice. I will list those who can step in to fill the gap.
1, Alex Iwobi - Arsenal - England (UEFA league)
2, Rabiu Ibrahim - Gent - Belgium (Europa League)
3, Josh Onomah (if he agrees) - Tottenham -England(UEFA league)
4, Abdul Ajagun - Roda JC - Netherland
5, Raheem Lawal - Osmanlispor - Turkey (Europa League)
6, Nosa Igbiebor- Maccabi-tel-aviv-fc - Israel - (Europa League)
7, Sodiq Popoola - Metz(ligue 1) - France
8, Sone Aluko - Hull city - England
If you know more, pls do add.

Example; Ibeto cement that was clamped down under Obj for Dangote cement with other brands sited in North to grow...Same Ibeto came back to business under Jonathan...and is having issues again under Buhari...
Dangote seems more a monopolist than a capitalist btw Was Ibeto producing cement or bagging it? The government stopped importation of cements and not Ibeto only. |
