All this so-called prophets, why would they not allow someone rest, every time they come by, they will surely have one vision or another to tell someone, Oga wife thought but kept her cool.

“Woman, how dare you think such a thing towards a man of Jah, do you want to be consumed by the wrath of Jah”

The dreaded fellow said, jumping on one leg. Unlike other prophets, he had no bell with him and he appeared neater his white radiating in the sunlight as he danced around. His barking at Oga wife made the other women to keep mute, a kind of fear falling on them as they watched the man in awe.

“You are all pregnant women here”

The Prophet bellowed out pointing his crooked finger at the sitting women. Oga wife jumped and screamed at the news, not that she had had any medical test but the mere show the man had put up reading her thoughts had got her believing.

“You will all give birth to male children on the same day”

The Prophet continued. This time he gave each woman a piercing look and watched as they all bent their heads down. He smiled to himself, yes, he had delivered the message that had given him sleepless nights, the same message that Jah kept flashing in his eyes till he could bear it no more for it was driving him mad.

“But there is going to be a special one among the male children, one whose name will reach the extreme part of the earth.”

The prophet spoke out, this time in a calm voice, his eyes turned up only the white part showing. This new message caused smiles to break on the faces of the women seated.

“Nurse that child well and make sure he never strays from the right path. Do all you can to make sure he lives.”

The Prophet concluded and turned to leave when Mama stepped out of the room to pick her headtie which she had dried earlier on the line that ran from one end to the other in the compound. The Prophet froze, turned round and looked at the woman who just stepped out, his head thrown behind him as he started an unusual dance, bouncing on one foot and then the other, his dreadlock going round in a circular motion. Soon he was sweating.

Mama had stood watching him in amusement. She had heard all the strange ugly bearded man had said to the women outside. So Oga wife is now pregnant, she was happy for the news even though she knew the chances of it being true was slim. She had already changed into a cleaner dress as she had made up her mind overnight to go visit the doctor. Though she was down casted, her decision she felt will only help the family out. Since the child was not fully developed, she will only ask for tablets she would take and then come home and suffer it out with her husband. She had heard the frightening tale about women that had gone for D&C and never made it out alive or collapse on getting home due to loss of blood.

“Woman, let that child within you live for he is the special one”

The Prophet jilted her with his words which he spoke pointing directly at her and then turning round and making his way out of the compound so fast that it looked like he disappeared.

The other women were taken aback by the revelation, they all gawked at Mama who looked at them back not out of happiness but with a disappointing look. No one knew she was pregnant and now that loud mouthed man her come to say it all. Oga wife stood up slowly but then Mama never waited, she turned round and bolted back into the room which she locked from inside away from the jaunts and jeers of the women outside. She only opened the door for her children when they came back from school and made sure they did not go outside to play with the children in the compound.

She waited pensively for the return of her husband.
