Yea, he may not be blamed, but he should have ensured that DUE DILIGENCE was done. This process allows for the competence of the contractor to be determined prior to awarding the contract to him.

Was any test done to determine the soil's load bearing capacity undecided

It looks like they wanted to emulate the winner's chapel edifice at Ota but they've forgotten that bishop oyedepo is a trained Architect.

Look at the walls shocked shocked isn't that just block and cement? No steel beams to support the overhead steel work shocked shocked

You didn't really make any point. What does bearing capacity have to do with a column the failed in shear and a steel roof system that lost stability due to MULTIPLE OBVIOUS REASONS?

And how does winner's chapel roof system and blockwork cause the collapse?

Are you a structural engineer?

I guess u have not seen an indoor stadium.

pic 1 below is an indoor stadium, show me where's the pillar in the middle

pic 2 is Winner's chapel auditorium. show me where's the pillar in the middle.

Look I knw this diaster was probably causd by some engineering flaws or use of subsandard materials but it has nothing to do with having a pillar or pillars in the middle. Modern auditoriums don't have pillars in the middle.
No columns needed anywhere within the church.

Quacks provided the structural drawings and quacks supervised it....what should we expect?...that it will win an award??

HOW CAN YOU ERECT METAL OVER HEAD BEAMS WITHOUT PILLARS FOR SUPPORT??

GOD!!!!!!!! THIS WAS MURDER!!!!!

What are you saying?...are you a civil engineer?I guess you are not, cos of the terms you used? Steel roof systems are meant for long spans (they only need supports at their extreme ends), ie if it's properly designed by a professional and experienced civil/structural engineer. Steel sections are very efficient in performing that function, that was why timber wasn't used or ain't used for long spans. I know this cos I'm a civil engineer, and I have modeled, analysed and designed more complex steel roof systems, with much longer spans.

Now, from the pictures I have seen, the concrete quality is BAD! The columns were under reinforced, the steel roof lost stability due to poor connections between the members and between the trusses and the supporting columns, the diagonals' section sizes and also due to the fact that the columns meant to take horizontal thrust and moment failed in shear as a result of being poorly reinforced (the concrete columns where forced to take tension...concrete doesn't take tension, it.will shear). From the state of the construction site, quacks were in charge doing what to have absolutely no professional idea of.

There's no way they would have had some immediate signs of collapse, cos steel fails plastically(ie there are no warming signs), ie if it was even analysed and designed, which I firmly doubt!

May the souls of the dead rest in peace. AMEN.

Career / Re: Employer Fired A Staff And Asked Him To Come Back To Resign Should He ? by frank043(m): 7:09am On Jun 06, 2016
It's simple... Resignation (be it forced or voluntary) is white, while sack is black. One can come up with positive reason(s) for resigning, but sack is all NEGATIVE. It is easier to get a job with resignation than sack. Prospective employers will want to know why you were sacked (ie if you EVER get an invitation), and if you EVER get employed, their eyes will be on you and they will never stop being skeptical. The firm behaved very professional, they don't want to paint him black or reduce his chances of getting a new job cos they can't afford to pay him.

Flying Officer, Flight Officer, Flight Lieutenant and so on

No sir, it's in this ascending order... Pilot officer, Flying Officer, flight lieutenant, Squadron Leader, Wing Commander, Group Captain, Air Commodore, Air Vice Marshal, Air Marshal, Air Chief Marshal and Marshal of the Nigerian Airforce. There is no SSC commission in the Airforce, just DSSC, which starts with Flying Officer.

If truly you are a 2LT, you MUST be SSC commissioned. An RC can not commit the kinda blunder you are committing.

Mind a PM?
Harbioollah:

Yes. After the 5years, you are free to do whatever you like. You will be officially disengaged from service and qualified as a French citizen. Then whatever benefits accrues to a French citizen accrues to you too (Voting, etc). You can choose to join the French military but it's left to you.

There are holidays inbetween but I cannot say how long. About family, forget it. You will be enlisted as single and with no child (even if you have 3wives and 12 children). You can only bring them when you are done with your 5years and attained your citizenship status. They can apply for a short term visa to come visit you though.

I am not in the French Army neither am I in France. But I am moving to France soon for my MSc.

Sir, if you are really a 2LT you should know that it's pilot officer and NOT flying officer. Flying officer is equivalent to lieutenant (army) and sub-lieutenant (navy). No offence...
MrMystique:

Non-Commissioned Officers are the recruits, Commissioned Officer are from 2nd Lieutenant {ARMY}, Midshipman{NAVY}, Flying Officer{AIRFORCE} and above whether DSSC OR RCC

I have one word to say... LIES!!!
cmax16:

Commissioned officer are those that graduated from the Nigerian defence academy, they can rise to become full fledged generals depending on further studies and off course who you know or as it were before now, who's/which successful coup you helped installed.

Non commissioned officers gets into the army through the Nigerian Army graduate (DSSC) employment. Someone who gets in via this route will definitely not rise in the army as fast as someone who went through the full complimentary course at NDA. If you attain the rank of Colonel through this route, count your stars lucky.

I believe this is what the lady was trying to say when she referenced commissioned and non commissioned officer.

@OP, it will be practicably impossible to run a business you will oversee directly and still work in the army...unless of course you have develop and put in place mechanism to make the business run without you being physically possible, a thing I suppose most businesses in Nigeria aren't equipped for.

Not long on nairaland there was a thread that explains the real difference between an entrepreneur and self-employed.

Why do you say what you ain't sure of? I beg to disagree with you ma'am... Your info is false!!!
Xbabangida:
Commanding troops as a 2nd lieutenant? I laugh in Spanish. grin. The war front somewhere in Adamawa or borno is where your bubble will burst as you are a noncommissioned officer. Only the commissioned officer (From Major , colonel , brigadier general, major general, General) command troops and sit inside AC dashing out orders . Your job as a lieutenant is to assisist a captain of a troop in organization and tactical approach during warfare.
Modified: A second lieutenant is a commissioned officer. Only if you attained that from passing through the NDA

INDESTRUCTABLEX:
Good morning guys, I am a graduate from the Premier University and recently passed out from NYSC programme. I have always been into business right from my university days because I crave independence.

While serving, I was also into business. Before passing out, I launched my startup and currently have 2 employees. Although, I studied mechanical engineering, I have no plans to work in the industry, except as a business person utilizing my skills.

Now for the purpose of this post. I have an uncle who has contacted me twice to join the armed forces - police and recently army. He is a politician and has a slot and wants someone from our family to fill the position. I outrightly turned down the police offer but recently army came in and I am having second thoughts.

As a child I wanted to be a soldier but I was an only son. Hell no, there's no way my parents would have allowed me go to NDA. I am 23, ambitious, and still crave independence and financial buoyancy.

I want to find out what the benefits of joining the army are. Specifically as a second lieutenant. Would I be commanding troops? Can I combine it with my business? The latter is my major concern, I don't have plans of touching the salary I get from NA.

Basically, what is my job description, the demands of the job, and the time I get for myself. Thanks in anticipation.

First and foremost, as a graduate, you will be granted the rank of Lieutenant, and not Second Lieutenant, ie if you go for the DSSC, otherwise, you will be a second lieutenant commissioned in the combat cadre. You can do whatever business, so longer as it's a legal business and it ain't interfering with your army job. Let's assume you are commissioned as a DSSC officer, in this case a Lieutenant, you will be a troop commander, and as professional, you will have basic job description of Mechanical Engineers. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers Accountants etc commissioned as professionals will practice as professionals, otherwise, they will be pure combatant officers commissioned into the SSC cadre. Feel free if you need any other clarifications... I have similar aspirations, I'm a Civil Engineer.

OP, I don't see any bridge about to collapse. What I see is a bridge whose pile caps and piles have been exposed due to a drop in the water level of the stream. If rain starts, what you are seeing will get submerged.

A private is a soldier without a rank. Then don't wear any pip (that thing on the shoulder of their uniform, where the rank is indicated)

I'm sorry bro, but you are wrong. Even a warrant officer doesn't wear pip, only a commissioned officer does. Now, a private is a rank, but it's the least rank in the Non-Commissioned Officer cadre, and equally the least in the entire army. When they are on training, they are recruits, immediately they passout, they become privates and ascend in that order.

Naval, airforce and army officers don't go about on bikes and public transport. It's the NCOs (Non-Commissioned Officers) that go about on bikes and public transport. In this case, the young man is impersonating a NAVAL RATING, not a NAVAL OFFICER

This one happened in secondary school ( JSS 2). I fought my classmate the day we vacated and because of that, our principal seized my result. I hid inside one of the class room till 6 pm when the principal left the school premises. I sneaked inside his office and stole my result. He called my dad and told him to ask me why I didn't come home with my result. Unfortunately when my dad came home and demanded for my result I gave it to him....and I took third position then.

During my ND days in fedponek, I will conspire with my lecture to give assignments that will be submitted with textbook serial number, they entire class of 550 students would buy textbook. He would give me 10k for every 100k I account to him. I was his courserep BTW.

One day like that I went to write post utme and my HOD caught me and threatened to forward my matter to rector. I had to beg her on my knees when she was supervising ND1 students of my dept writing exam. It was the worst day of my life. These are the few ones I can remember.

550 students in one classssssss?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... No wonder.
