For all the structural engineers on here, if you need any information whatsoever, please ask them here. That way, others can benefit from it, while we also have valuable comments from other structural engineers in the house.

I can't respond to individual enquiries, cos some of the questions and concerns are somewhat similar and they are building up.

Thanks.

Thank you for the response ☺️. Structural engineering.

Great! I'm also a structural engineer.

I don't know your level of experience, I don't know if you are already here in the UK and I don't know your circumstance. However, I can confirm to you that structural engineers are in HIGH demand across the UK.

Don't hesitate to revert should you need further information.

Is there any civil engineer working in the UK on here or anyone in constructions and knows about how civil engineering works in the UK. I will appreciate a response. Thank you.

Is it possible narrowing down and be more specific...? Civil Engineering is VAST.

Meanwhile for current students applying for Tier 2 jobs, one major tip in getting/negotiating for sponsorship is informing/educating the potential employers on the fact that they dont need to pay for Immigration Skills Charge if sponsoring an applicant switching directly from Tier 4 to work visa and subsequently after.

This saves about £1820 for a 5yr sponsorship for a medium or large organisation and the only cost to be incurred is the COS of £199.

Many thanks for your breakdown, fatima04. Please does this also apply to a dependant of a tier4 visa holder negotiating for sponsorship?

Good afternoon house!

Please I'd like to confirm from those already in the UK if our local dollar (GTBank) card works over there for payment such as hotel bills, COVID-19 tests, etc.

We intend using our card upon arrival, since cash payment are usually not preferred.

Thanks ALL!

Please kindly assist. While filling out the form for dependant (partner), what visa type are we to pick? I was expecting to see partner depandant visa. We won't want a situation where they will stamp 'NO WORK, NO BUSINESS' on the passport, just like someone experienced here.

Please see the attached image.

Many thanks.

That's the Partner dependant link I used.

Hi Preshyi, please did you use the same email address for all applications (yourself and dependant)? Also, was the decision mail sent to just your email?

Let's make some noise biko!!!!
Biometrics: 8th July (priority)
Collection Email: 14th
Pickup: 15th
For my Dependant(Husband)
Biometrics: 9th July (Standard)
Collection mail: 15th
Pickup: 16th
We paid for priority for only myself but his own was processed exactly 5 working days. I guess it's a total waste paying for priority for dependants cos its processed same time with that of the main applicant. Atleast that's what happened in my case.
God bless whoever created this page and everyone that contributes here, I did the application all by myself with information gotten here. God Is the greatest!!!
Sheffield we are coming!!!!

It is not for walk-in. You pay 42,000 naira for each member of your family for the Walk-in service. This is for your Biometrics. The GBP 55 is for Using the VI facility. It's called the MUP fee, you pay that along with your visa application fee, it is also charged per head.

Thanks fetomowo! This is clear...

The £55 is not actually for walk-in. It is melt for using TLS VI Centre service and it is per head. The Walk-in service charge is 42,000 Naira per person.

TLS Ikeja Centre will not charge you the 55 British Pounds, but only for other devices like Walk-in and the likes.

Many thanks for this, TosinKate!

Please I'd like to confirm if the £55 for walk-in service at TLS VI centre is per head or for the entire family, say for a family of three.

Bnimz & ideamaster have succinctly summarised your question.

I only want to comment on this part of the post. I cannot question an individual's experience but for whoever migrates to Australia legally as a permanent resident will not under any circumstance call his Nigerian friends to beg for money. The worst that will happen is for the person to live off government welfare and not be calling an arrogant friend in Nigeria to rescue.

Chief bellong, I hail thee bro!!!

Millions of thanks for your ever sincere guide and invaluable advise flying all over nairaland. Really very grateful.

It's high time those of us here really call to mind why we do wana migrate, as majority don't have any clue as to why and still remain in the dark after migrating.

I'd be sharing your words here with those that need to understand why they would wana take that giant stride.

As my migration process advances, I'd be reaching out to you for some particular clarifications.

God bless you bro.

I want to do a quick calculation. I am using the minimum wage in Australia which is $19.49 but to make it look more realistic, I would apply the 25% casual loading which would make it approx. $24 per hour.

Many thanks ideamaster!

This is so so detailed that I had to read it over and over and over to ensure I properly digest it. I could never have come up with this quality of argument.

Honestly, I'm very impressed and touched at the selfless efforts you all are making to ensure that we over here can take that bold decision to migrate, as we all know migrating and leaving everything behind ain't an easy task.

I understand the guy's points though there are a few exaggerations... There is no tax system in the English-speaking world that reduces $100,000 to $40,000.....

However, with that aside, we do have to admit that things are more expensive... But then you earn more money too...

Many thanks Bnimz!!!

Like bellong said, you have said it all very well succinctly.

I can now further break it down to some junior colleagues that yearn for such info, being that this is coming from the horse's mouth.

Thanks again.

LONG POST ALERT!!!
Hi all... bellong, bnimz, tyosho, et al... Trust we are all well and keeping safe with family?

I believe I won't be de-railing this wonderful thread, as it was set up for the primary purpose of life/living in Australia.

I have always being pro-migration, and have never for once thought on the contrary. With the way this government is going, I don't see any decent future in sight for myself and family! Have already begun the process, though slow, cos I needed to sort out somethings.

The below was culled out from someone's breakdown of living abroad, I believe in the US. I'd appreciate if we can discuss this in more details and not making generic statements, as you all already are resident in Australia can be specific and truthful to the later.

"Abroad people call me every weekend asking me to send money (not bragging). Many of them are frustrated over there. They work long hours including overtime but the government takes federal, state, city, social security, medicare, medicaid and disability taxes. On top of that, when they buy biscuit, they will still take sales tax. They pay exorbitant rent; those who "own" homes are locked in a loan repayment for 30yrs of which they still have to pay annual taxes for their house. Phone bill can cost over $60 per line, cable $120, internet $80 and they still pay tax on top of it. Burger and chips with soft drink can easily cost you $16 plus tax.

Sure some folks are making over $100,000 theoretically especially healthcare workers in expensive states like California and new York, but by the time they deduct all those taxes from their check, they are left with just $40,000. Then they still have to pay more taxes on every thing they buy. That's not life. It's like a rat wheel, oscillating but not making any progress. I have a cousin who was in the same situation in America, after 10yrs working as a social worker, he returned home and we started up a business. He still regrets all the years he spent slaving away in America. Today, he travels the world on vacation and visiting places he didn't even have time to visit when he was living abroad. It's not too late for Nigerians living abroad to return home; you can make it big here with less stress and you will extend your life span"

Yea, NAF is cool, with nice personnel welfare package.

Joining cos you wana get back at someone or a group is NEVER the way. I'd have just said join cos of patriotism, but again, Nigeria ain't a country worth dying for.

Thanks for ur reply bro it's really appreciated

I'm bout opting for a career in the Military dunno if you can advise me on some things

One thing you should know is that these are perilous times for one to join the military. I declined joining cos I figured out eventually that as a civil/structural engineer, the military won't offer me that sort of specialized expertise and exposure required for one to attain a consultant status. Mind you, I had the wherewithal to join, but I bluntly turned it down and ain't damn regretting it!

Get to know more about the military and see if their lifestyle and tradition suits your persona, and aligns with your discipline growth-wise, else you'd really wish you hadn't.

Note: The military is a very nice institution, and for the fact that I chose not to join shouldn't deter you from pursuing your dreams of getting commissioned.
