Gurus in the house, I hail o.

I have being following this thread, though I have not posted at all.

Can experience garnered before BSc. be counted towards assessment. example below:
AAT(ICAN) 2008
Started relevant accounting work in 2008 (Immediately after the cert.)
Got BSc. in 2014 (Still working along)
Got another BSc. 2016 (still working along)
Becomes Chartered Accountant 2016 ( Still working).

I have worked in 3 different Industries with not less.

Would all these experiences before the BSc. qualify for assessment purpose?. Total years of experience in 9+.

Response would be appreciated.

Thanks

Experience before the qualification you are tendering won't count. What's required is relevant post-qualification experience.

ND is equivalent to Certificate IV in Australia hence you WON'T get positive assessment with ND alone. It requires minimum of HND.

Thanks bro.

This is the confirmation I need. I will proceed with qualification and skill assessment with EA, immediately my IELTS is out.

By December this year, I'd have 8yrs Post-HND experience, and will do the assessment with DIBP.

What's your take on this?

Many thanks.

I think justice has been done to your concern in the previous posts.
Basically, your performance in English test would eventually determine which occupation to choose and qualification to use.
BSc Civil Eng=15points and Experience=0
HND CANNOT give you Professional Engineer or Engineering Technologist status eventhough you will get 10points if you choose relevant occupation that requires Advanced Diploma and experience=10points.

I will advise you should go for your English test before you decide.

Thanks for your response.

I was thinking of nominating civil engineering draftsperson with my ND certificate in civil engineering?? Since, from anzscosearch.com, the required qualifications are; AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma (HND) or Diploma (ND).

if this is possible, I'd claim 15points on work experience, since I have over 10yrs post-ND relevant work experience.

What's your take on this??

Thanks bro.

Abeg, is it possible my assessor could be asking for only a rewritten summary statement or what, because that's the only part of the career episode that got a feedback. Who has been in this situation before? I mean getting feedback under the summary section but not being asked to rewrite any career episode in particular.

Do you rewrite all 3, do you just pick any 1 or 2 to rewrite, or do u just rewrite construct the summary statement only since that's where the feedback falls on?

See screens hot below

Chief bellong, ozymigrant...Sorry I'm back again with my annoying questions. I just need to get it right, with out any conflicting information before facing EA, DIBP et al.

Based on our previous messages, I would like to use my HND for assessment, instead of the BSc. I am a bit confused, I don't want to shoot myself on the foot. I have 7+yrs post HND experience, and out of this 7yrs, 1.3yrs is my post BSc experience, employed as a structural engineer.
1. Do I go ahead with this years of experience, which has job description different from that of a civil engineering draftsperson or do I need to tailor it to match?
2. Also, can I use my 1yr post ND experience as well(i don't have any evidence to show on this experience?
3. If all the above, especially (No. 2) is possible, I will be going in via NSW nomination, with 60points. However, I'd be doing 55points. How do I fair in this regards?

Thanks brother.

Congrats Bro. I really salute your boldness to approach EA for assessment.

The reason why he was assessed as 'Engineering Technologist' was because of his qualification that is not an Engineering degree. Normally, you can only get a 'Professional Engineer' if you studied at least Australian Bachelor degree equivalent with a WELL written CDR of Professional Engineers standard. All Nigerian Engineering degrees are eligible due to the 5 years degree course in Nigeria but where the problem lies is in the area of CDR.

I have seen all manner of CDRs and many positive outcomes. It may interest you to know that Bachelor degree in Science e.g Geology and then a Master degree in Petroleum Engineering with a well written CDR would get "Professional Engineer" assessment outcome. I have seen that. Also, a BSc Industrial Chemistry, two MSc degrees (Environmental and Chemical Engineering) and a well written CDR. Likewise, I know of BSc Food Technology degree and MSc Food Technology degree with a Positive assessment as 'Engineering Technologist'. Surprising too, I have seen a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Engineering and a MSc degree in Environmental Engineering plus a CDR in Environmental Engineering who got a positive assessment as 'Engineering Technologist'.

So, your Engineering degree or what have you plus a WELL written CDR would earn you a 'Professional Engineer status'.

Hello bro,

Nice piece of observation.

Please, I'd like to know what you can say in my own case, I need to get it right before going in for assessment.

I have an ND, HND and BSc all in civil/structural engineering, with core work experience. I have 7+yrs post HND experience, and 2+yrs post BSc experience. With a good CDR, what do you think I'd get assessed for?

Thanks

Thanks for the response bellong.

In that case, if my IELTS falls short of 8points, then I will assess with my HND, by adjusting my job description to match that of a civil engineering draftperson. Otherwise, I'd use my BSc. Do you see anything wrong in adjusting my job description to match that of a draftperson? I have the capacity to defend it, if that's what might be the challenge.

No, with your BSC.

Thanks for the reply, bellong. I really appreciate.

The case here is that if I use my BSc, I will have 25+15+10=50points, which is less than the minimum (60points) required, and even less than the minimum (55points) for nomination. I'm preparing to see if I can hit an 8-point on IELTS(20points), then I will have... 25+15+20=60. What do you think? Any advise?

@frank043,

Your HND will give you 10 points, Bsc 15points.

7+ years experience will give you 10 points and 0 points for 2+ yrs..

You should apply as a civil engineering draftsperson... As noted by ozymigrant, you can work as an engineer or anything as long as you meet the employer's requirements.

Thanks bellong for the timely response.

Actually, I have work experience in core structural engineering, I don't know if my work experience will be fine for civil engineering draftperson, reason being that job description for civil engineering draftperson is beneath that of structural engineering. Please, will it good well If I go ahead to use my structural engineering experience or should I modify the description to match that of a draftperson?

As regards EA assessment, what's the best way to send in my IELTS score?

Many thanks man!

Good morning all. U know dat sweet feeling where u feel pretty and just wanna kiss urself?
I woke this morning feeling dat way; I still do.

23 January 2016 : IELTS (L R W S - 9, 8.5, 8, 7). I immediately requested for a remark of the speaking section.

24 February 2016: PTE (L R W S : 90 85 90 66)

22 April 2016: IELTS speaking bumped to 8. Plus I got my refund.

31 May 2016: CDR submission to EA

17 June 2016: Positive outcome (Engr. Tech)

18 June 2016: EOI submitted

06 July 2016: Invitation to apply

25 September 2016: Uploaded wife's PTE scores. L R W S 82 74 66 81

13 October 2016: Grants received in mailbox, for me, my wife and daughter. IED 9th Aug 2017. Processing team - Brisbane.

I didn't use work experience points. Just d minimum 60 points.

After worrying and fuzzing over nothing, I finally have it. At work right now, but it is a sweet feeling. Still thanking God for it all. I read contents on this forum and expatforum, and it has rili helped. Grateful to everyone for their contributions. I wish us all success in our endeavors. May our dreams come true.

Hello bro,
Congrats again on your smooth sailing.

@bellong @sammywemmy
I have a few concerns:
I have an ND, HND and BSc all in civil/structural engineering, with cognate work experience. I can only claim points on work experience with my HND, cos I have 7+yrs post HND experience. The outcome from EA will definitely be an engr tech. I can't claim points on work experience with my BSc, cos I have 2+yrs post BSc experience. If I don't claim points on work experience, I'd have 50points, if I do, I'd end up with engr tech and 65points.

1. What are the implications of getting PR visa under EA's engr tech? I'm really very skeptical about it, reason being that I have a BSc, yet going in as Engr Tech., instead of structural engineer or professional engineer.
2. Can I upgrade my assessment using my BSc for Structural Engineer, after obtaining the visa?
3. What qualification did you tender? Was your EA assessment for qualification and relevant skilled experience or just qualification?

Kindly disregard any typo errors, please.

Thanks.

Being a female engineer is interesting. Pple look at you differently. Like you are some wonder. There is this respect and regard you get when pple know you are an engineer. You even get privileges easily on the job.
Its a world of men in engineering tho. I am glad its gradually changing.

Most practicing female engineers tend to tacitly leave their responsibilities for their male counterparts, coming up with different obnoxious excuses. This is a first hand account. Clearly what you call PRIVILEGES.

First Class is just a grade, or do you think you are the only female in engineering that I have come across that made such grade? I had them in my graduating class and faculty with more accomplishments. It's not meant to thrill anyone my dear. Jaw-dropping feats can thrill me, not an over rated grade. no offence taken!! if you judge wisdom by the distance traveled by an individual, I rest my case then! I leave you with two cliches though; the older you become, the wiser or more foolish you become.. and a fool at 40 is a fool forever. look at those two statements and try to deduce whatever you can deduce from them. if u deduce rightly, you will see that age is a solid factor for wisdom.

So, it's just distance travelled you are able to figure out? While he's touring the globe, he's meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, negotiating deals, studying, getting exposure, seeing different levels of infrastructure, tasting different mixes of wine and dishes at all levels... I will stick by this man's advice.

How do you define wisdom, my friend? its the quality of being wise. and how does one get wise? Well, so many factors are responsible for a person's wisdom; however, just take a moment to think and you would see that wisdom and age most times go hand in hand.. the older you get, the wiser or the stupider you get.. wisdom and foolishness have a common factor and that's age..

My dear friend, next time read to understand, not just to reply. You emphasized on grey hair as though one without grey hair ain't wise. You can't compare an old man with grey hair all over, who has never left his community and who ain't stupid either, to a young man (without no single grey hair), who has toured the globe. Definitely, the later is wiser! So, if you are waiting for the former to advice you in this 21st century, my brother, you are in that category and will never step out of what you call comfort zone. Any idiot can have a grey hair, so don't tag it to wisdom.

No offence meant.
