Moley22: People have done ESL successfully nau but there are several other schools you can apply to, Paying for ESL and university tuition is no joke(abt 4000cad asides your tuition) You can even get a school furthering your desktop publishing diploma which I think might be cheaper Yes that's true, ESL program costs 3500CAD aside from tuition fee of 8,800CAD. Thank you so much for your advice. I'll look around and see if there is any school. Most schools in Canada like colleges strictly accepts students for only fall semester. |

jnyuwa02: I think what others did not point out, I should point. The denial is not only based only on finances, it also based on home ties that would induce your return to Nigeria and also purpose of visit. The VO clearly pointed out that you have limited travel history of going and returning. They also said they are not sure you would be a genuine student. So its possible if you tackle finances as other have advised, it would take care of the purpose of visit concern in a way, but it wont take care of home ties. You need to address in your SOP and provide why you think your would return to Nigeria. Employment offer; landed property and how that would compel you to return; other financial or professional investment or interest in Nigeria would go along way in addressing the VO's concern. You should also take the extra step to obtain a non conditional admission letter. Tell the school you have been educated in English all your life and if possible for them to issue an acceptance letter that does not require you to complete ESL. Nigeria's official language is English and most students from Nigeria are not required to do ESL. That would go a long way to address purpose of visit concern. The more you paint yourself as a serious student, the more serious they will take you. You have spoken well @jnyuwa02. Well my employment letter(Job) and my family member can serve as my home tie, together with Landed properties. MUN has refused to waive the ESL program on the ground that i was taught in English language throughout my high school education and obtained a B grade in WAEC. They said that students from Nigeria are to sit for IELTS exams and acquire a minimum overall score of 6.5, reading and writing 6.0 each. I once wrote IELTS last year and obtained overall 6.0, reading and writing 6.0. They refused that i should rewrite the IELTS exams or go for an ESL program. I can see many schools waving ESL program for students from Nigeria. I'm surprised at MUN. Do you mean the ESL program will bring a red flag in my next application? I await your response shortly. |

Austinpee4: Most people have spoken well in your case and i just want to add one or two things.
Undergraduate sponsorship would usually require very high financial commitment and the onus is always on the applicant to ensure this is translated well to the VO.
1. Like others have mentioned, sponsor will have to commit financially atleast for your first year expenses and tuition.
2. 3rd party sponsorship will show that aside you, other financial needs will be met(family).
3. Explain convincingly why he/she is sponsoring you and why he/she decided to expend such funds for a 4 year program plus the ESL program in Canada and not Nigeria since it will be cheaper and economical for a 3rd party who didn't bare you.
So aside all the financial strength displayed, the sponsor and you must show that all the financial obligation will be met with ease and without strain to other obligation of sponsor. Establish these things and you should be okay in the reapplication. All the best. Thank you very much for your suggestions, you have spoken well @Austinpee4. Its now my duty to work out for the above listed requirements which you have mentioned and that of the other gurus in the house. Once more I'm grateful, Austinee4, Canadian Nurse, Bbclue, Guzenaira, MAZI 1 of Ottawa for your candid response and contributions so far. You guys are doing a wonderful job here. CanadianNurse: did your 3rd party sponsor pay your fees and transfer money to your account for living expenses and cover all the vital clauses in his sponsorship letter? He didn't pay my tuition fees, and also he didn't transfer my living expenses into my account as a proof of commitment. He only stated he will be sponsoring me throughout my stay in Canada and a sworn affidavit was backed up with it. |

maziude: Boss,
If this is all your note says, then you really dont have a problem tackling it. But then this CIC we are talking about, their mata dey weak person.
It all falls on the documents you submitted and what you have in your SOP. How did you link your sponsor? How did you show your finance? Are you fully sponsored by your sponsor or partly? Did your sponsor make any commitment at all, Like paying part of your fees or even transferring portion to your account? What is the content of the sponsorship letter?
The travel history is just jara. The main point is your funding which is linked to your sponsor.
I no kno weda you get me sha, but that is what i understood from that note.
Mazi... MAZI of Ottawa!!! I hail you boss. My Sponsor is my maternal uncle. He was my only sponsor, I never added a co-sponsor. Yes I made this mistake myself he didn't transfer money into my account as a proof commitment, either did he pay my tuition fees and transfer living expenses into my personal account as my upkeep. More so, He submitted his bank statement with inflow and outflow of 93Million and available balance was 700k. In his letter of sponsorship he stated i was his nephew from his sister side. He will be sponsoring me throughout my stay in Canada and also a sworn affidavit was back up with it. In regards to my SOP, i indicated that he was my maternal uncle and he was the one that saw/sponsored me throughout my secondary school education. Lastly, i never added any identity of my mother like photocopy of international passport /drivers licence and a birth certificate to proof truly he was my maternal uncle. |

CanadianNurse: is this message from your CAIPS? (GCMS) Yes. That was the only note on my GCMS note. Sorry it appeared repeatedly. It was a mistake. The rest of the write up was only indicating my datw of submission, date of birth, biometrics, visa payment fees, school, province, etc... which was aligned on a straight line. I thought the Visa officer will point out the ESl program which was a pre-requisite to my undergraduate degree program. But they didn't. I submitted my ESL acceptance letter attached with my conditional acceptance letter into undergraduate degree program as instructed by MUN, after completion of ESL i can enroll into my undergraduate program. 1-)Financial status and personal assest 2-) Travel History The purpose of visit wasn't emphasised on the note. |

CanadianNurse: What does your CAIP notes say? After careful review of the application and supporting documents provided. Applicant appears to have limited travels which could demonstrate a history of having travelled and returned. Is being sponsored by third party, Limited evidence of relationship on file and evidence of personal financial establishment is weak. I am not satisfied that applicant will havd sufficient available funds for tuition and upkeep during first year of studies in Canada. Based on the evidence provided I am not satisfied application is a genuine student who intends to complete course of study in Canada and should depart at the end of the authorized stay. REFUSED.!!! This was the only note on my application. |

- I didn't pay my fees - I didn't add any land documents e.t.c as home tie because I couldn't find, plus I did not understand how my parents properties could serve as a home tie for me. - I'm a pharmacist going for an MBA at MUN - I have four younger siblings (parents dependents) - Did not notarize my letter

My tuition is about 8000 CAD
Documents submitted
- all cic forms - My blank passport showing only U.K. Visa refusal - Letter of explanation - Sponsor (mom) passport showing all her visas ( she travels a lot for business) - Sponsorship letter from mom company stating she's the MD - Personal sponsorship letter from mom stating she's my mom . - company SOA ( the balance was 3m at that time) (history also shows plenty international transactions) - Letter from bank stating she's the sole signatory to the company account - Moms personal SOA (5.5m) - Letter from bank stating she's a know customer blah blah - Company CAC - One CAC document that shows my dad, me and my siblings are directors of the company ( my nick name was used in that document though) *home tie - My French language documents (I speak French) - Pictures of my blog website and social media page (I have a pharmacy blog and a social media page for it) *home tie - Degree certificate - Transcript - My certificate - Screenshot of a response mail from cashiers office saying payment for tuition begins on the first day of classes - GMAT test result
In case you are wondering what was in my LOE . I just said I wanted to run a business and since I've seen so many fail, I want first hand knowledge. Also compared Lagos to Newfoundland in terms of start ups. Then I listed the supporting document I was going to attach ( barely a page)
Think that's all. So happy everything worked out because I had doubts.
Major key : I prayed more than I've ever prayed in my life ( okay except my final year in Uni) please put me inline. Do u mean you didn't pay for your tuition and CIC never cared to request for tuition fees payment receipt while your application is still in progress and you were given TRV? |

thesoj: @Frankrobbn1, please take @maziude's advice. I don't think the circuitous route of switching from a visiting visa to a student visa is advisable. Given that you don't yet have the visiting visa, your current approach requires you to convince Canadian VOs twice; this two-step process appears to be a more difficult task than the one-step version (i.e. improve your IELTS and apply for study TRV).
I also in general would not recommend that anyone apply for a visiting visa with the intent of switching to a student visa. If denied, it gets exponentially harder to be approved when you come back home to apply from Lagos (cos you've basically shown the VO that once you got to Canada you didn't plan to respect the terms of your visiting visa -- exceptions are if for an extenuating reason you absolutely had to stay in Canada, but this is rare and you'd need convincing evidence) Thank you Bro. I'll work towards achieving a higher score this time in my IELTS result. Thanks for your contribution all through. |

maziude: Hello boss,
I aint @Thesoj, but if the school gave you an option of writing an English test (IELTS), why not re-write it and save yourself the troubles of worrying how to convince the VO. I believe if you do this and get the unconditional offer, you will have less issues to worry about and less permutations to do.
Just my thought though... Thank you so much bro. To Re-write IELTS is the only way forward me now and obtain the required score for my course. Thanks for your contribution. |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Frankrobbn1: 12:59am On Jul 25, 2017 |
thesoj: In order to benefit others (and for other gurus to fact-check my answers), please ask your question(s) on here. Also, due to time constraints I am unable to respond to most PMs at this time.
Do you have travel history to any OECD country (basically any country in western Europe, North America, Japan, Australia, etc)? If so, then why not just get an unconditional admission and then apply directly for a student visa? Why do you want to go the route of applying for a visit visa to see your brother as a path to getting a study permit? Are you certain that it'd be easier to obtain for a visit visa to see your brother? What is your current activity and when did you finish your last level of education?
Answering these questions may make it easier to help. If you've already answered these questions in the past, please paste the link here and I'll provide any additional thoughts. Thanks! Thanks Thesoj, Well I don't have any travel history. Still making use of my virgin passport. The only way i can get an unconditional offer is to rewrite my IELTS exam again. My last result i scored 6.0 band but unfortunately for me the school requires 6.5 band. So this was the main reason they gave me a conditional offer. Actually, I applying for a study permit for a short term prerequisite program won't be acceptable by cic, so i decided to use a visitor visa after completion of the ESl program, I can now apply within Canada. since it was started in the cic website. I came to realise that it will be much easier if i go through that path in applying for study permit within Canada. Since I ve completed a short term program in Canada. Seen the answers that were given to some other people going for the same program, they were advice to provide a strong home ties in their country, with that you can convince the V.O . I graduated from high school 2013. I obtained a diploma award certificate in desktop publishing 2014. With the certificate I was able to secure a job in my one of my uncle company as a system administrator. I worked there from 2014 till date. I hope to hear from you soon Thesoj |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 12 by Frankrobbn1: 10:57pm On Jul 24, 2017 |
thesoj: Oh I think I better understand your question. You are not applying for a visa as an ESL (English as a Second Language) student. You are applying for a visitor visa to visit your brother, and then you intend to enroll in an ESL after which you'd apply for a study permit.
If you do receive the visitor visa, you can indeed enroll in an ESL program (or any other educational program less than 6 months).
I know that while on a visit visa to Canada you technically can apply for a Canada study permit (to a Canada Consulate somewhere in the US); I'm not sure if I'd recommend this option. It is up to you if you wanna go this path. Given that you would be applying while in Canada with your PR brother, you would need to make a very strong case to the VO for why they should issue you this visa. If I were the VO, I'd assume that it was your plan all along to not go back to Naija even before you applied for a visit visa.
Now as someone mentioned a few pages ago, it is indeed true that Nigerian citizen visa applicants are usually treated better when they are applying for a visa from a third country (assuming they are legal residents in said third country, e.g. on student visa, work visa, etc). Just keep in mind that your application may raise some red flags to the VO, given that you left Nigeria to visit your PR brother and upon reaching Canada decided to not go back home. This may create the impression that your intent was always to go to Canada and not return home.
It's a toss up. Your call. If you were my brother and your visit visa got approved, I'd advise you to use the visit visa to Canada, and then come back to Lagos to apply for a student visa. This act would show the VO that you respect the terms of your visa even though you have family ties to Canada.
My two cents. Once again, I am not a VO and every applicant is viewed differently by the VO, depending on the applicant's context. Thank you so much Thesoj, you have indeed spoken well. Please i have some few more questions to ask you. Can I pm you? |

thesoj: While I am not a VO, it is extremely unlikely for a Nigerian to be given a visa for an ESL program. You are likely to be refused for "purpose of visit", particularly since you can study ESL in Nigeria or any other African country. It is almost unjustifiable to apply for a TRV or study permit with the premise of going for an ESL program. Not sure what convincing argument you can make to the VO for this purpose. Thank you for your response Thesoj. well i was given a conditional acceptance letter that's stated that after completion of ESL program, i can now gain a direct admission into my undergraduate degree program. Do you mean if I should apply for a Visitor visa based on that I'm going for a family visit since my brother is a permanent residence of Canada and he sends me an invitation letter. When i get to Canada i can now enroll into my 12weeks Esl program after completion of the program then gain a direct admission. I can now apply for study permit within Canada. Do you mean it's not possible, i won't be given study permit if i should do that? please reply as soon as possible. thank you |

Austinpee4: Happy Sunday guys!
May this new week bring more good news of approvals, positive updates of our applications and ultimately give the hopefuls peace of mind! A great week ahead. Hello Austinpee4, Osmeigho, Canadian nurse, jnywas02 and all other Gurus in the house. From the information I got from several blogs and colleagues. I was told that i have to apply for Visitor visa inorder to enroll into my ESl program. Which after completion of the program, I'm eligible to apply for a study permit within Canada without possibly going back to my country. This rule strictly apply to visitors going for ESL or short term program which is a pre-requisite to their undergraduate degree program. I was told that i can't be given study permit for a short term pre-requisite program from here. It's also noted on the cic website here number 3. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=483&top=15That visitors that completes a pre-requisite program or short term program is very much eligible to apply for study permit within without going back to their country to apply, while other visitors that never studied a short term program in Canada are to apply at Los Angeles. Is Nigerians Al's eligible to change their status from Vistor visa to student visa after completion of short term program Please I want to know if this information above is true. Thank you as i hope to hear from you soon. |
