TravelRe: Honesty and Contentment: My Experience In Zimbabwe. by freeman67: 5:27pm On Aug 18, 2020
The truth is that Nigeria still have many truthful and trustworthy individuals but the noises that comes with the sins of the dubious ones are louder. I can not blow my own trumpet but I will tell you that I have met someone here on Nairaland, we both live in Nigeria but have not seen apart from WhatsApp pictures and voice calls. We have had transactions now for over 6 years. The transaction started from about N10,000 - N15,000 and it has gone far beyond that. But I have never had any reason to go look for him to get back my money.

I will send him money, he will send me goods without noise. So the generalisation of bad behaviour on all Nigerians is not fair..

Thank you very much.... Any hint on the capital preservation as regards the money market fund with united capital please?
To me everything is all right with United Capital for now. The only thing I have not tried with them for now is withdrawal. I consider speed very important because I may need to make other investment decisions sometimes. StanbicIBTC has been my best for that even though they frustrated my moves yesterday.

Good day guys, it's been long since I last posted here but I've been following up with the thread and I've gained a whole lot, thanks to everyone.

I'm about to go into money market fund with a few millions and my two options are united capital and fbnquest, which among these two have better customer service response? As that is very important to me. Also hope my capital is preserved with money market funds?

PLEASE I will appreciate response from anyone that is using either of the two management mentioned above. Thank you
For customer service except you go physically to their office and be given an account officer, FBNQUEST customer service will stress you more. I have dealt with both United Capital customer service is more responsive.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: How I Almost Got Scammed Over A Civil Defense Job by freeman67:
I would have tried to give out all the hints to make you decode the scams here but I discovered that scammers are here looking for how to perfect their skills. They can not achieve through me.

I will still give some that they will never be able to beat.

First of all, for all the Job seekers here please be aware that employment letter is very vital in all government establishments. There always have screenings from time to time and you will have to present the original in hard copy so they hardly send it through e-mail. It is usually printed on a particular type of paper too depending on the MDA/SERVICE. The e-mail will not give you the type of paper required. Presenting any other unknown to the system can make you a ghost/fake employee.

Secondly, Appointment Letters for services/security agencies are issued as you are about to pass out of training. Though Civil Defence use to issue letters before training but I think they have now stopped it.

Thirdly, I believe if you are interested in a job you will have to do some homework about the Job. I do not think Civil Defence have a training centre in Kano indicated in what the displayed. There are red flags all over. Just that over excitement did not allow him to notice before then.

Fourthly, except the job was sold to you, nobody will ask you to pay money before resuming. I do not think there is any government agency that will ask you to come pay before training..for what? They can only tell you to come with specific items you will need and maybe make you spend money in the course of your training (Things like canvas, shorts, t-shirts, buckets etc. For the security guys) you would have gotten a preamble to this from NYSC.

Finally, we are now in a technologically advanced world. Just downloading true caller app alone can help you identify a scammer immediately his calls enter your phone. No matter how rich a scammer is he can not buy different SIMs for all the people he intends to scam because he is not certain of who exactly he can hoodwink among his intended prey.

You also will definitely not be the first he is scamming with that no. So someone he tried earlier would have already stored his details. There is no scammer that has called me since 2018 to date that I did not discover his identity immediately. Some I decided to waste their credit so they won't have enough to call other people while others I insult outrightly..

I have tried to refrain myself from talking so as not to increase the hard work of Investment One representatives on this thread but then let's not try shut complaints... We have been bringing complaints and issues of investment here for solutions let alone investment heard of from here.

Lots of people have complained here about StanbicIBTC, United Capital, FBNQUEST and the like. Even without representative customers with better experience have explained things to them. If you have a particular way to deposit and make the money enter his account immediately you let him know. If you deposits take more than a day or two to be credited, you let him know.

Except on very rare occasions you don't make deposits in bank and start going mailing them or calling customer service to credit you account. Most times your customer service personnel are even clueless when faced with challenges.

Please advice your firm appropriately.

RomanceRe: Do I Tell My American Patient He's Being Scammed By A Nigerian Romance Scammer? by freeman67: 10:10pm On Aug 13, 2020
ALEX182:
So I have this American patient who I recently came across. He's a fat dude who is like in his late 40s but has a very jolly and likeable character. I introduced myself and we got talking afterwards.

After a while of chitchat, he asked me where I was from. I told him to take a guess and he said said, you sound like you're Nigerian. I told him (regrettably) that I was Nigerian. He started smiling and told me that he had a Nigerian girlfriend and that we both had similar accents.

He then started telling me recent occurrences that had befallen his girlfriend in Nigeria. He said the lastest story was that she was in Abuja and as she was on her way to the airport in a taxi, the taxi had an accident and she was seriously injured and had to be rushed to the hospital. He said that the hospital demanded money before treatment started and he had to hustle about $4000 and send to her in order for treatment to start.

He said that after a week of her being in the hospital, they wanted to discharge her despite her still being in pain. Because she had exhausted all the $4000 on treatment, he said the hospital had threatened to discharge her on the streets and he was trying to borrow more money to see if he could send it to her so they could continue with her treatments.

He furthermore told me that the girlfriend said that she was a Nigerian American citizen who was currently stuck in Nigeria due to her passport having expired and also due to Covid lockdown at airports in Nigeria. He said she had asked him for $300 to renew her US passport from American embassy in Nigeria.

Another thing that he told me was that just before covid struck, there was a similar pandemic which happened in Nigeria early this year and that his girlfriend had contracted the disease and he had to send her $2000 for treatment. Right now he said he's broke but is waiting for like $2000 disability check from the US government next week which he will send to her as soon as the money clears.

As he was telling me this tale, I was so angry with Nigerians and how they take advantage of people in love to scam them. I wanted to swear for the scammers angry

I'm at a dilemma here. Do I tell him that he's being scammed by Nigerians or do I continue to be professional and just ignore it. Because I don't want him to think I'm involved with it because these oyinbo people can turn everything on your head and accuse you that is your people in conjunction with you that are scamming him. They are that crazy.

The good part of me wants to help him but I'm hesitant that it may turn out bad for me. Please matured responses.
What are you still waiting for. God will bless you for burning that kind of cable. Please let your knowing him count by freeing from that bondage and if possible reconnect him to a real Nigerian woman.

Please is it possible for those fund manager like Stanbic ibtc asset management, fnbquest Asst Managament,Investment-one and their like to vanish with investors fund or should the SEC just merge them similar like what happened to skye Bank
Hahaha... In this world nothing is impossible.. However, the situation you painted above is very unlikely to happen.

Why? It is very unlikely because fund management is regulated and also structured in a way that the money is not just kept in one hand. There are custodians which in most cases are a separate body entrusted with that.

As explained on Wikipedia;

Custodian is a specialized financial institution responsible for safeguarding a firm's or individual's financial assets and is not engaged in "traditional" commercial or consumer/retail banking such as mortgage or personal lending, branch banking, personal accounts, Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and so forth. The role of a custodian in such a case would be to:

-Hold in safekeeping assets/securities such as stocks, bonds, commodities such as precious metals and currency (cash), domestic and foreign

-Arrange settlement of any purchases and sales and deliveries in/out of such securities and currency

-Collect information on and income from such assets (dividends in the case of stocks/equities and coupons (interest payments) in the case of bonds) and administer related tax withholding documents and foreign tax reclamation

-Administer voluntary and involuntary corporate actions on securities held such as stock dividends, stock splits, business combinations (mergers), tender offers, bond calls, etc.

-Provide information on the securities and their issuers such as annual general meetings and related proxies

- Maintain currency/cash bank accounts, effect deposits and withdrawals and manage other cash transactions perform foreign exchange transactions

- Often perform additional services for particular clients such as mutual funds; examples include fund accounting, administration, legal, compliance and tax support services

True, it's just entertainment. Personally, I have never seen the attraction. Didn't follow the last one. I intended following the current one purely to see what the fuss was all about but i have still not watched a single episode Maybe it's because i am not a fan of reality TV. Prefer to just watch a movie or series. I still don't understand why Nigerians love it so much to the extent of recharging thousands just to vote. I would have preferred a music talent show like Project Fame having that much popularity. At least, the contestants are showcasing a talent.
Yes, it is for entertainment. A reality TV program that showcases how lots of people behave when there are to cohabit with other people. There are instances where 2 people both agree and do something silly on Int'l TV. There instance when 1 will want and the other won't. Those things are not all they do anyway. The show try to amplify the talent of participants too but the most amplified thing are the silly because scandals sell news more in this our generation. .

It goes a long way to tell how exposed/degrading things get to in this our generation. All things that hitherto was private and now getting public including human body parts.

Very true that a some serious minded people and people with high moral will not fancy that sort of entertainment because of some of the things portrayed in the show. I believe the producers have boundaries for that.

It is however, very glaring that lots of people like because the price for winner( which will come from the program sponsor and contribution of the voter/viewers) and the number of DSTV subscription during the period of the show keep increasing. It seem

That thing is plainly silly

To the topic, I am glad we are moulding a generation where women come forward to speak up whenever they fall victim to those animals in human form

Before now, the girl child would often keep quiet when they were raped.

Our society must take rape cases seriously because we cannot have a country where it is not safe to be a woman.

On the part of the ladies, they must avoid those tendencies that encourage rape.

1. Avoid late night movements
2. Go with a male or in group if you must walk in the night
3. Avoid skimpy dresses (it sounds controversial but it worsens the situation)
4. Stop carrying your shoulders. Greet people in your street. It costs you nothing. grin
5. Be mindful of the guys you visit, especially those you met online
6. Stop runz

More importantly, step forward if you become a rape victim

Do not be shy and feel that you will be discriminated against
Well said, however all the above is not actually the problem in this particular case.

It's very unfortunate that boys that are supposed to protect their community girls were the one that did this rubbish.

She reported where is supposed to be her place of work but her 419 Oga has already vanished with people's fund.

Some of the youths took laws into their own hand by abducting them. As if that is not enough, the went further damage the psyche and womanhood of the girls.

First of all, It shall never be well with her 419 Oga for putting them in harms way. Also, God will continue to punish those foolish boys for acting their perverted mind on the girl.

Happy New Month to all fellow investors. Pls lets talk about this new duty stamp charges. 100 naira was debited from my account this morning, but it was 50naira last month, though more money was paid into my account in July.

How much have you paid for duty stamp charges so far?

How is this duty stamp charges calculated?

We have about 80million active bank accounts in Nigeria, Just imagine FG debiting about 50 to 100naira from each account every month. FG could be saving up to 7 to 8bilion naira every month. I keep wondering, if not for corruption and mismanagements, we ought to have enough money to build many of our infrastructures without borrowing or mortgaging the lives of our unborn children for loans from China or IMF or World Bank.
It is not even meant to be deducted monthly because that will create issues. Stamp duty should be charged immediately after the transaction. About 2 months back Access Bank debited all kinds of amount from various account for accumulated Stamp Duty Charge and they were forced to revert it.

Stamp duty is to be charged on any electronic transfer or deposits that is more than N10,000 made from a bank to another bank or by a third party. They may be considerations for business accounts; that I am not sure of. However, for personal accounts it is charged per transaction.

Bread prices increased immediately after the lockdown was partially relaxed in Abuja so there has been intent to increase price

In Nigeria citizens have always look for ways to rip off their fellow citizens in any situation be it good or bad.

I remember vividly that farmers were the first to be considered in relaxing lockdown. It now means the consideration was of no effect.

They were considered for closing the border and Nigerian rice that was selling about N13,000 went straight to about N20,000.

Price of fuel was reduced from N145 to N123 during the lockdown but transport prices was increased. From Zuba to Area 1 was jacked up from N250-N500 even while flaunting the instructions of the number of people to carry.

It depends on the angle you want to be enlightened on. In the city where I am, market was opening everyday before the lockdown. However, these days market only open 3 times in a week. That's partial closure. As casual and relaxed as everything seem to be, it is still not normal yet. Restrictions are still there in banks and other corporate offices.

Banks like GT, Eco and StanbicIBTC still choose branches to open in the city where I live. If you plan to go to the banking hall these days, you can not scheduled programme on the same day because you may end up spending the whole day there. It doesn't use to be so..

Today I saw people being tried by a mobile court for walking around without face mask. Cars too were stopped and passengers tried. So lots of things are not back to normal yet.

Yes the cheques are fine but in addition, you will need to get a lawyer to draft a friendly loan agreement for you. Please note that the amount to be indicated on the agreement as the borrowed sum should be the total of the loan and interest then the mode of repayment in agreement is where the amount to be paid monthly on the cheques will be indicated.

That said, before you finally give out the loan you should have an idea of what he is investing on. Also, incase of any eventuality(death for example: God Forbid) how do you get the money back.. Will the investment continue to fund the cheques account monthly on its own or the cheques account have a way of getting funds itself till the repayment. They should be be at least a trusted third party aware of the transaction too.
