The market have been deregulated. Tinubu do not have the power to decide the price of fuel for filling stations owner.

Petrol Stations should work on converting to cooking gas and CNG stations. There is no much profit in petrol stations especially if it is private ownership. They practically now in same status as random retail businesses you see around.

Thought it will benefit exports more since foreign currency is earned ... But, imports, one will spend more Naira for goods in dollars( or similar 'hard' currencies). Just like now will favor remote workers more.... Truth is for a child of God, all 'weather' of the economy favors him/ her.

No, as exchange rate is high currently, exporters are making a killing.
Example, Musicians and digital content creators and services are categorized as exporters.
Students traveling to school abroad or medical & holiday tourists are categorized as importers.
The former are currently enjoying huge revenue remittances while the later are spending more to access the oversea services.

Hmmm..... Let them make the Naira to rival dollars head to head

These will not benefit exporters but will benefit imports, cheap goods, and unemployment. It’s like back to square one.
Wait, I thought economics is a compulsory subject in secondary school? So many Nigerians are completely delusional regarding some basic economic and financial policies.

Car Talk / Re: Subsidy Removal: Mechanics Decry Low Patronage As Motorists Abandon Vehicles by frowland(m): 4:59pm On Jul 09, 2023
Greystone:
It’s true.
Upper week I drove my car to my mechanic for an engine oil and filter change and the mechanic’s garage had only one car being worked on. A large place that used to be a beehive of activity.
I asked the owner of the place why the place was so empty. He said that since subsidy was removed, majority of people have stopped using their cars.

Na Wahalla+Shege Pro Max Nigerians dey see now

Economics is double edged - It’s called scale of preference. If you think burning petrol and going to mechanic is a good thing then you have no idea about management.
Think of burning petrol and mechanic visits as taking your hard earned money and throwing it into fire 🔥. Then think of NOT buying petrol and NOT going to mechanic.
Weigh both options above 👆🏼 and choose wisely.

Is this dividends of democracy?

Yes it is 100%. Spending money to ‘burn’ hydrocarbon is waste. It’s like throwing money into fire. Use the money you are supposed to burn 🔥 in your car to better your live instead. Drink 🍺, merry, have fun around your neighborhood.

Business / Re: Fabrics, Fake Human Hair Top Nigeria’s N1.4trn Import From China by frowland(m): 4:32pm On Jun 29, 2023
tommy589:

It should be ban if you want to conserve Forex for meaningful purposes and encourage local manufacturing. The damage done to our economy by these importations is better experienced. But government needs to provide enabling environment for our industries to flourish and be competitive

Years ago I was at the area of the last factory (textile) I worked. It was an industrial estate of over 60 textile factories,if not even 100,operating three shifts. Not a single one is operational again due to importation from foreign countries. I am talking of just one industrial estate out of many in the country

Look, anything you ban makes it way back through black market as long as there is demand for it.

Kill the demand and kill the market. While your position is ideal, it is not realistic as our borders are porous with corrupt customs officers all over the place. Won’t work.

To generate revenue and as well drive local competition, you have to place a higher duty on the imported items. Outright banning of items like wigs and attachments will encourage smuggling and government loses while the importer keeps making his profits.

Jack up duty, cost of goods will go up because marketers must make back their money.

They will add it when selling to customers.
Final consumers will be the ones to suffer

Talking about human hair and attachments. How is that any of our problems? Anyone who wants to buy such luxuries should be ready to pay for it.
Business / Re: Fabrics, Fake Human Hair Top Nigeria’s N1.4trn Import From China by frowland(m): 12:00pm On Jun 29, 2023
tommy589:

It may reduce but won't stop it. For decades luxury mint cars have been on 100% duties

Ban it for a year and let's see if life won't go on

Ban will encourage smuggling and loss of revenue through black market. Best is to jack up the duty even to 100%. Let it fall under luxury items. If you decide to import then that’s a huge revenue to the govt. win win.

Ps animals fighting are not legal and shouldn't be encouraged, but if such situations ever take place, who will be the last one standing?

Please can this make Front page for a louder audience?
