We’ve Gone Beyond Tribe, Religion, Fulani Group Counters Miyetti Allah On Peter Obi … says Miyetti Allah doesn’t speak for all Fulani in Nigeria! … ‘we won’t be blinded by the politically-sponsored statement!’ A Fulani professional group, Coalition of Fulbe Professionals in Africa, COFPIA, has distanced itself from a statement by Alhaji Alhasan Salah, National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, which claimed to be against the candidature of former Anambra State governor and the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi, in the 2023 presidential election. They said Fulani will no longer be used for violence and extortion, as tackling the country’s issues and election matters have “gone far beyond religious and ethnic sentiments”. COFPIA enjoined Nigerians to disregard any statement from Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, saying the group did not speak for Fulani ethnic group or represent the Fulani in any way. Alhasan, who is the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, had in an interview with a national daily, said the Fulani nation would not support the candidature of Obi. Alhasan had described Obi as a tribal bigot, someone who hates the North and, by extension, the Fulani tribe. He said the leadership of the group had instructed every Fulani in the country not to vote for Mr Peter Obi, because “Obi is a tribal bigot and represents the Biafran interest which would not favour the Fulani nation in Nigeria.” The National Secretary-General of the Fulani socio-cultural group, had noted that “as far as Miyetti Allah is concerned, Obi is out of the options of persons to be voted for in the forthcoming elections.” “As far as we are concerned, we know those we cannot vote for. You see one that they call Obi or OBIdient, any Fulani man who votes for him must be questioned because he may not be a true son of the soil. “Obi represents the Biafran interest. So, we know those we cannot vote for and those that cannot be president of Nigeria. He is a tribal bigot,” he said. Alhassan claimed that when Obi was the governor of Anambra State, he “destroyed the businesses of northerners and chased plenty Hausa and Fulani people from entering Anambra.” Fulbe Professionals react: Meanwhile, the Fulani group, operating under the umbrella of Coalition of Fulbe Professionals in Africa, picked hole in Alhasan’s claim. The Fulbe professional group, in a statement, Monday, by Prof. Mohammed Gidado, its National President and Hajiya Mairo Modibo, National Secretary, countered Miyetti Allah. While the group acknowledged everyone’s right to freedom of expression and opinion, it reminded “them that they don’t have the right to speak for the entire Fulani in Nigeria, especially when they have not lived up to expectations.” In a statement to this effect, COFPIA said Fulbe people all over Nigeria “will not be bound by that politically-sponsored statement of Miyetti Allah. “Our attention has been drawn to a sectional, unpatriotic, ungodly and senseless statement credited to one of our brothers, Alhajji Hassan Saleh, the National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, the most controversial Fulani group in Nigeria, which no doubt is responsible for the bad name Fulani nation has been branded with in Nigeria. “The Fulbe all over Nigeria will not be bound by that politically-sponsored statement of Miyetti Allah anymore. “The Fulani people are wise now and cannot be used as tools of extortion and religious sentiment any more. “We will enlighten our people to vote for competence and capacity come 2023. We will never vote for any candidate who has nothing to offer. We have gone far beyond religious and ethnic sentiments. “We will vote for a president that will tackle poverty, and acute hunger that have held our people hostage for so long. “We will vote for a president that will fight insecurity with every commitment and unbiased mind, no matter who is in involved,” the statement read. The group said, “Our respected tribal group, Miyette Allah, should channel their campaign to redeem the bad image they have created for Fulani people in Nigeria rather than casting aspersions on Peter Obi, who has demonstrated capacity to rescue Nigeria from the current hopelessness. “We wish to also make it categorically clear that we have not endorsed Peter Obi or any presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections and we are not Peter Obi’s mouthpiece. “But it’s wrong for our people to continue to brand Peter Obi as a tribal bigot and that he doesn’t like the North. “Available data has shown Peter Obi as an ardent nationalist that believes in the unity of Nigeria. “We, therefore, call on our brothers in the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, to only speak for their group, rather than misleading Nigerians that they are speaking for the entire Fulani people. “They lack the moral, spiritual, and religious rights to speak for the entire Fulani people in Nigeria, especially when they have reduced themselves to tribal bigots that has no regards for other tribes and faiths. “Nigerians have taken position in the forthcoming election to vote for the best man for the job and cannot be distracted by any selfish agenda and blackmail. “As campaigns start, we shall mobilise and enlighten Fulani young and old in every RUGA and town to sensitize our people so as not to be deceived by Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and its like,” the statement added. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/08/2023-fulani-group-disowns-miyetti-allahs-statement-on-obi/amp/

Some people said they would be cured of disease if they sleep with me — Lady with albinism shares story A lady with albinism identified as Chizaram Onyemaechi, has recounted her experiences during her childhood. The Abuja-based disability advocate, in an exclusive interview with Punch Newspaper, revealed that she hails from Umuahia Local Government Area of Abia State but was born and raised in Lagos. According to the lady, she started taking note of the sad ordeal she faced in her childhood because people always tried to remind her that she is different. When she was younger, she couldn’t go out to play with her age mates because she had difficulty in seeing objects which is at its peak during the day. She was also warned that if she continued exposing her body to the sun, she might die of skin cancer as she lacked melanin. She was asked about her relationship experience, where she revealed that most of the people that showed interest in her only want to have sex with her. She added that some of them even believed that if they sleep with her, they would be cured of diseases like HIV. Flood Kills 50 Persons, Displaces Many In Jigawa The Jigawa State Government has confirmed the death of 50 persons with many others displaced as flood ravages parts of the state. The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Sani Yusuf, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Dutse, said the flood also destroyed thousands of houses in the state. Yusuf stated that the situation had forced many Jigawa residents to take refuge in other places including government buildings. It was gathered that the state government accommodated many displaced persons in 11 temporary camps. Some of the victims are from Balangu village where no fewer than 237 houses were submerged under water and destroyed with four people dead. “We have so many displaced persons in about 11 temporary camps. In Balangu alone, 237 houses have been damaged and the occupants are now living in a temporary camp,” Yusuf said. “Four people also died in that same village, after the six in Kafin Hausa. So, when you go around the state, we lost about 50 people to the flood now. Even yesterday (Saturday), seven people from the same family died.” https://punchng.com/flood-kills-50-persons-displaces-many-in-jigawa/?amp

Kenyans Anxious For News On Next President, Two Days After Tight Vote NAIROBI — Kenyans crowded round radios and televisions yesterday, increasingly anxious for news of who their next president might be, two days after voting in an election ended. The East African country’s election commission (IEBC) has neither released a running tally of results nor said when it plans to announce the winner, but unofficial and sometimes conflicting media counts show a nail-bitingly close race. Veteran opposition leader and former political prisoner Raila Odinga, 77, is making his fifth stab at the presidency. He stands neck and neck with outgoing Deputy President William Ruto, 55. Kenyan media are compiling results from images of forms that the commission uploaded on to its website from more than 46,000 polling stations, a mammoth task that means their tallies differ, and lag far behind the amount of raw data available. Amid concerns that those discrepancies could trigger claims of rigging, which have sparked deadly violence after recent ballot, many are urging their fellow citizens – after a largely peaceful election – to wait patiently for the official results. Outside a butcher’s shop in the western town of Eldoret, dozens of men backslapped each other as they crowded round to read the latest headlines and argued over the relative merits of Ruto and Odinga. But they all expressed faith in the commission’s ability to deliver a true result. “This (radio) station is saying this; this station is saying that – we don’t engage with those figures,” said 22-year old driver Ian Kipchirchir. “Only the IEBC (The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission) has the truth.. We trust the IEBC.” Scrutinising newspaper headlines two streets away, Ongao Okello added: “There is so much impatience… Given the experience that we have in Kenya, we have to be patient and just wait.” More than 1,200 people were killed in widespread violence that followed the 2007 election, and more than 100 died after the 2017 polls. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/08/kenyans-anxious-for-news-on-next-president-two-days-after-tight-vote/amp/
