We Kill Rivals, Cut Off Their Hands For Rituals — Self-Confessed Cultist A self-confessed leader of the confraternity, otherwise called Aiye, Saheed Taiwo, has given a chilling account of the cruel fate rival cultists suffered in his group’s hand, any time there was a clash in Ogun State. Unlike other cult groups, 27-year-old Taiwo said his group did not only kill rivals but they also cut off their hands and used them to prepare protection charms. The severed hands according to him, were also used to prepare concoction for his members against arrest by the Police. But the potency of the charm became questionable as he was arrested alongside two other hit men in his confraternity, by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, headed by DCP Olatuniji Disu, in the Abeokuta area of Ogun State. Those arrested with Taiwo were : Isaiah Babatunde and Oyede Sulaimon. They were alleged to have killed members of rival cult groups within Ita Oshin and neighboring communities in Ogun. Crime Guard gathered that during the operation that led to the arrest of the trio, another notorious member of the group identified simply as Ben, disappeared with one of the gang’s AK 47 rifles. Taiwo, confessed to have joined the Aiye cult group in 2018, as a senior Secondary School 1 student, of Anglican High School, Ibara, Abeokuta. He however dropped out of school in 2019. Between the period he joined and when he was arrested, he said he had lost count of the number of rival cult members his group had killed. According to him: “As an individual, I cannot tell you I have killed anyone. This is because we usually operate as a group. We have killed many people. I have lost count of the number. Anytime we were going for an operation, our leader would instruct us to ensure we kill as many as we could". “We don’t just kill. We cut off their hands. The severed hands were taken to a set of twins in the Ago Oka area of Isale Ogun, in Abeokuta. I met the tradition of delivering severed hands to the twins". "They are used for rituals, especially to prepare concoction that would protect us from being killed by rituals and being arrested by the Police.” Asked why the charm did not work for him and his colleagues, he cast a blank stare apparently wondering why, too. Rivals killed: He mentioned names of rival cult members his group had killed and the circumstances under which the operation was carried out. Taiwo said: “Members of my group are responsible for several killings in Ogun State. A particular case was the killing of a leader of a rival cult group in the Ita Oluwo area of Abeokuta, some months ago. He was called Tommy, but I was not among those that went for the operation. Ben, Dare, Killer, Idris and Aloma did and they went with a Pump Action Rifle. “They went on motorbikes. They said they first matcheted Tommy before shooting him, to ensure he was dead. He was one of the leaders of the Eiye group. All the cult killings were reprisal attacks". “There was another reprisal attack on the Eiye group. Eiye cult group killed a member of our group during the clash and our leaders, Dare and others, mandated us to go and see what was happening there. When we got there, we identified one of them. Later, we traced the identified Eiye member, who was one of those who killed our to Lafenwa and killed him". “We also cut off one of his hands with our axe. We don’t call it axe in our group. We call it, "Seven". We took the hands to the twins for the usual thing.” Continuing, Taiwo stated that “We have assorted arms and ammunitions. There is hardly any arm you cannot find with our group be they single or double barrel guns, or AK 47 and many more. “I was using a double barrel gun for operation. One of us, Rasqie, escaped with it on the day we were arrested.” The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, assured that other fleeing members of the cult groups would be arrested and prosecuted, adding that Taiwo and his colleagues would be charged to court. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/08/we-kill-rivals-cut-off-their-hands-for-rituals-self-confessed-cultist/amp/

Youths Protest Demands To Scrap NYSC Youths from the 36 states and the FCT, numbering over 100, have protested against the continued demand for the scrapping of the National Youth Service Corps, saying it has become a national heritage and symbol of the country’s unity. The NYSC was established in 1973 by a former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild Nigeria after the Civil War. The scheme seeks the development of common ties among Nigerian youths and the promotion of national unity. The youths, who acted under the aegis of ‘Nigeria First’, said the NYSC scheme should be protected and preserved, since its objective was the promotion of national integration among Nigerians. The spokesperson for the NF, Richard Augustine, stated these during a press conference which was held on Friday evening in Abuja. He said, “We wish to state in unequivocal terms that the NYSC must not be scrapped, as it would amount to a great disservice to the country, if such a brilliant initiative is sacrificed on the altar of selfish aggrandizement by some vested interests in the country. “Sadly, those against the existence of the NYSC have elected to turn the truth on its head for inexplicable reasons and link the continued existence of the scheme as responsible for the death of corp members and other appurtenances occasioned by the spate of insecurity in the country. “We find such a stance anti-Nigeria given the numerous contributions of the NYSC to nation building and sustainable growth and development. “It is on record that the operations of the NYSC have evolved over the years in conformity with the global trend from a scheme devoted to national integration to a skill and the entrepreneurship hub for the teeming youthful population of the country.” Augustine said rather than abolish the NYSC, the government and other stakeholders could look at its challenges in order to put it right. “That some youth corp members encountered life-threatening situations that, in some instances, resulted in death does not mean that the NYSC is a death trap as some unscrupulous groups and individuals would want the unsuspecting members of the general public to believe. “Our opinion is that those who have advocated for the scrapping of the NYSC in recent times are not in tune with the reality on the ground in the country. “It is either a function of ignorance or mischief, given that the operations of the NYSC in Nigeria have been noteworthy and instrumental in implementing policies and programmes that place the youths on the pedestal to achieving greatness. “Nigeria First wishes to reiterate that the call for the scrapping of the NYSC is a misnomer and should be disregarded by concerned stakeholders, including parents and guardians, as the novel introductions in the NYSC in recent times have been impactful in our quest for socio-economic growth and development,” he emphasised. https://punchng.com/youths-protest-demands-to-scrap-nysc/

COVID-19 Infections Rise By 231.5% In One Month COVID-19 infections have reportedly risen by 231.5 per cent within one month in the country. Epidemiological data obtained from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control showed that from May 28 to June 29, a total of 1,262 cases were reported. But from June 30 to August 1, the cases took a new surge as 4,183 cases were reported, indicating an increase of 2,921 (231.5 per cent). The country now has 261,473 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 3,147 deaths. The total recoveries in the country have now increased to 254,953. The NCDC confirmed in its latest biweekly epidemiological report that in the last 10 weeks, the test positivity ratio had continued to increase with the majority of cases reported from Lagos, FCT, Rivers, and Kano states. The NCDC, however, noted that there was a drop in the testing rate as reports for weeks 27 and 28 showed that the number of samples tested decreased to 24,411 from 35,063 reported in weeks 25 and 26. Meanwhile, only 27,528,710 Nigerians representing 24.6 per cent of the total eligible population targeted for COVID-19 vaccination have been fully vaccinated, while 11,768,202 have been partially vaccinated representing only 10.5 percent of the total eligible population, according to official data by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency. The NCDC Director-General, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, told our correspondent that the agency’s surveillance system continued to record a gradual increase in COVID-19 cases across the country. “This is a reminder of the prevailing risk we face and the need for continued adherence to non-pharmaceutical interventions such as the use of face masks in closed gatherings, physical distancing, and regular hand washing. “These should be done in addition to taking the vaccines which have been proven to be safe and effective in reducing the risk of severe illness from COVID-19,” he said. Yellow fever cases: Similarly, the NCDC has reported a total of 1,005 suspected cases of yellow fever from 36 states, including the FCT in 390 local government areas. According to the situation report, Borno State is leading with 88 cases, followed by Anambra State with 75 cases. Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes. The “yellow” in the name refers to the jaundice that affects some patients. Symptoms of yellow fever include fever, headache, jaundice, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue. A small proportion of patients who contract the virus develop severe symptoms and approximately half of those die within 7 to 10 days. The report read in part, “The cases were reported from the following states: Abia (28) Adamawa (18) Akwa Ibom =8 Anambra (75) Bauchi (34) Bayelsa (13) Benue (15) Borno (88) Cross River (20) Delta(5) Ebonyi (25) Edo (11) Ekiti (18) Enugu (43) FCT (5) Gombe (14) Imo (38) Jigawa(71) Kaduna =8 Kano (4) Katsina (67) Kebbi (21) Kogi (12) Kwara (21) Lagos(4) Nasarawa(23) Niger (25) Ogun (22) Ondo (55) Osun (18) Oyo (60) Plateau (34) Rivers(22) Sokoto(16) Taraba (27) Yobe (24) Zamfara (13) “Total of six presumptive positive and four inconclusive results were recorded from the Nigeria Laboratory network. “These presumptive positives were from UBTH Benin (2), MDH Abuja (1), CPHL Lagos (2), and YDMH (1). The cases were reported from Edo -1 (Egor); Niger -1 (Suleja); Rivers-1 (Port-Harcourt); Sokoto-1 (Dange-shuni); Osun-1 (Atakunmosa East); Ondo-1 (Akure South). The inconclusive cases were reported from Oyo -1 (Olorunsogo); Anambra-2 (Idemili South & Ayamelum) and Imo -1 (Nwangele).” Expert reacts: Speaking with Saturday PUNCH, the Ondo State Epidemiologist, Dr Stephen Fagbemi, said the discovery of the COVID-19 and yellow fever cases showed that the surveillance system was active and strong. “We are at the peak of the wet season; so, people will be coming down with the infection. People need to get vaccinated, some people got the first shot and ran away and some have not taken it at all. COVID-19 is still with us and people should keep adhering to the non-pharmaceutical protocols. “For cases of yellow fever, it could be because some children missed out on vaccination during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic but we will overcome it,” Fagbemi said. https://punchng.com/covid-19-infections-rise-by-231-5-in-one-month/?amp

How on Earth wil d citizens of a modern nation hand over d economy & d destiny of their nation 2 corruption-personified individuals or parties & then expect them 2 pilot d nation like d other advanced countries of d world? Native Doctors Drag CAC To Court Over Refusal To Register Traditional Religious Practitioners' Association The Traditional Religious Practitioners’ Association (TRPA) in Nigeria has dragged the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, to the Federal High Court in Enugu for the commission’s refusal to register the traditional worshippers as a religious body such as the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA. In its online application for registration to the CAC in June 2022, the Traditional Religious Practitioners Association, TRPA, led by Dibia Chukwuma Ezeoruonye and two others as the Trustees, requested for the TRPA to be registered as a corporate entity for the promotion of their faith, but the CAC in its reply to the application turned down the request for registration. The Commission in its reply to the TRPA on July 11 2022 said: “The CAC regrets to inform you that it was unable to approve any of the names(s) submitted for approval…name not registrable as their forms of worship and practices are not publicly available.” In their application to the court (Suit No FHC/EN/CS/140/2022) through their counsel, Obi K. Odo Esquire, the traditional religious worshippers contend that by the denial for registration, the CAC has discriminated against the plaintiffs on the ground of their religious worship, contrary to the provision of section 42 of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. “Other religious groups have been incorporated by the defendants but chose to deny us just because we are traditional worshippers; there is no other way to convince the defendants to go ahead and incorporate us as the Board of Trustee of the Association except by the intervention of this court,” the plaintiffs petitioned. Joined in the suit as co-defendants are the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Attorney General and Minister for Justice. The Plaintiffs are seeking for a declaration that the CAC denial of approval of Traditional Religious Practitioners’Association as a name for the purposes of incorporating them as registered Trustees of TRPA is a breach of their right to freedom of religion/worship and discriminatory contrary to the 1999 constitution as amended; stating also that the refusal under the part C of the Companies and Allied Matters Act was ultra vires and unlawful. They therefore pleaded with the court for an order compelling the CAC to approve the registration; determine if the group is registrable and whether the CAC was right to have denied the approval of the name that does not offend the law. In his affidavit in support of the originating summon, leader of the TRPA Board of Trustees, Dibia Chukwuma Ezeoruonye stated that the reason given for the denial of the approval does not accord with the circumstances allowed by the law for the CAC to refuse the proposed name and thereby breached their freedom of religion guaranteed in section 38 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Government of Nigeria which is a second defendant on the matter. The process which was filed at the Federal High Court in Enugu on July 21 2022 awaits the resumption of Judges from their annual vacation when the hearing will commence. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/08/native-doctors-drag-cac-to-court-for-refusal-to-register-traditional-religious-association/amp/

Even though I'm a born again Christian, I think we Christians should be ashamed of ourselves for heating up the polity unnecessarily. We Christians and Muslims should understand that Nigeria do not revolve around our both faiths. We have traditionalist and nonbelievers who have been politically marginalized all this years without been given any sort of consideration. There is nothing bad in having a Muslim/Muslim ticket if we truly care about the development of our country. We have had a Christian VP In Osinbajo for almost 8 years, how has it helped we Christians?
