The Nigerian Police on Thursday announced the arrest of 17 suspects allegedly involved in the recent killings in Kafanchan, Kaduna State. The Kafanchan killing is part of the larger violence in Southern Kaduna that has led to the death of over 200 people in the past few months. The violence, which has sometimes taken a religious dimension, is largely between herdsmen and host farming communities. The Nigeria police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, confirmed the arrest of the 17 suspects on Thursday in Abuja when he presented them before journalists. He said that 29 assorted firearms were recovered from the suspects. The details are as provided by the police. PresidentAtiku:When Gowon led the country nobody complained that he is Christian and even now anyone who wants to be President whether Muslim or Christian, North or South has to make himself acceptable to the electorates. Binta Masi Garba, a female Christian from Adamawa state, who is a Senator now representing Adamawa North, once won the membership of the house of representatives in Kaduna North, an area largely dominated by Muslims, under the ANPP. If as a Christian Northerner you want to be elected by Northern Muslims you have to make yourself acceptable to them. There are many Christians I can vote over some Muslims. |
Good bless you Dr Tilde for this piece. We have differences in the north but the thousands of years of living together and the bonds and ties formed over those can never be broken. |
DSS mess big time by trying to arrest the so-called apostle Suleiman because this is the sort of thing he was craving for when he asked his congregation to kill any Fulani herdsman they see. The herdsmen have shown, should anybody be foolish enough to do what he asked them to do, that they are capable of dealing with these sorts of things when they are attacked and the government failed to do justice to their attackers. |
psalmsjob:Attacks on the herdsmen are not normally reported in the media and even when they are reported they twist the stories. Had this story being about herdsmen attacking a village, no matter how implausible the story is, it would have been moved to the front page for the bigots to do their normal thing. Let them continue with their rantings on the social media but the herdsmen would always respond in kind to such attacks. You can see even on this thread how happy they are that the herdsmen are killed. They should continue to encourage the fools to attack the herdsmen but they should note that their rantings on social media would never deter the herdsmen from protecting themselves. If those who built houses, hospitals, schools for themselves attack the herdsmen who are living in the bush the herdsmen would simply respond in kind and it won't be difficult for them because their attackers have fixed addresses where they can contact them at the appropriate time. Apostle Suleiman and his likes should continue to incite violence against the herdsmen but the moment their foolish listeners attack the herdsmen they should know that they lose their peace forever. |
The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) yesterday said attackers from Manchok in Kaura local government area of Kaduna State crossed over to Ganawuri in Riyom local government area of Plateau State and killed a herder and injured two others. The association said the attack confirmed an earlier suspicion of attempts by some crisis merchants to push the crisis in neighboring Kaduna into Plateau State. Plateau State MACBAN chairman Muhammad Nura told our correspondent on phone that the attackers had opened fire on Yahaya Musa, Suleiman Ibrahim and Samaila Adamu as they sat outside their home around 8:30 pm Saturday. Nura said, “Yahaya Musa was killed and was buried this morning while Suleiman Ibrahim and Samaila Adamu are in critical conditions at the Toro General hospital, Bauchi. The attackers crossed over the boundary bridge between Plateau and Kaduna back to Manchok after the attack.” He said 16 of their members returning to Wase in Plateau State were ambushed and killed in Kafanchan a few weeks back while others were killed around Gidan Waya and Godogodo all in Kaduna State, adding, “We have continued to ask our people to be calm but the government and security agents must know that we cannot sit back and allow them to now cross over into our homes and kill us. Such a thing must never happen again in Plateau State.” Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Media and Information Officer, Captain Adam Umar confirmed Saturday night’s attack which he described as unfortunate. Captain Umar said the Sector Commander in charge of Riyom had instructed the area commander to investigate the incident. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/gunmen-crossed-from-kaduna-to-kill-our-member-macban-plateau/182047.html#d7Wf9xVjWzB2S780.99 |
I don't blame Jammeh for the crisis after the election because he conceded defeat and was willing to relinquish power peacefully but the the foolish utterances of the president elect Adama Baro is what led him to take the stand he took which forced the leaders of West Africa to negotiate a safe landing for him. To those who do not understand politics Jammeh is disgraced but the reality is that he made use of the bad situation he created in renouncing the result of the election to negotiate a safe landing for himself. |
This is just an after thought. The damage has already been done. |
psalmsjob:It is really scary that a governor of a volatile state like Taraba state, which has a population that comprises of almost equal number of Christians and Muslims would make such comments in public. What surprised me is not that he holds this opinion, because it is a common knowledge that people like him are the ones fueling the crises in his adopted state, but the audacity to make this statement in public. Wait and see the hypocrites would out and defend him. |
It is a matter of serious concern that a governor is giving this type of advice. |
- Taraba state governor, Archtect Darius Ishaku has urged Christians across the country to rise up and defend themselves - The governor advised Christians to defend themselves against terrorists before they are completely annihilated - He made the call via the secretary to the Taraba state government, Mr Anthony Jellason Taraba state governor, Archtect Darius Ishaku has urged Christians across the country to rise up and defend themselves. Rise up and defend yourselves - Governor Ishaku to Christians Governor Darius Ishaku Ishaku made the call through the secretary to the Taraba state government, Mr Anthony Jellason yesterday, January 9 in Jalingo, the state capital. The statement was made during a thanksgiving service organised by the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba state to celebrate new year and to pray for victims of Southern Kaduna massacre and other victims of terrorism across the country. The governor said the deliberate and systematic massacre of Christians in southern Kaduna, the North-east and other parts of the country by terrorists over the years has called for actions on the part of the people. He said Christians should embrace their constitutional rights to self-defense to save themselves from the evil clutches of fundamentalist. His words: “I was at the site of the mayhem in parts of Ardo Kola this morning and the level of destruction there is unimaginable. A few weeks ago, it was in Gassol, then Karim. We are all aware of what is going on in Southern Kaduna… “The people must wake up from their slumber and defend themselves. You can’t just lie down and allow yourselves to be annihilated by other groups. You have a constitutional right to self-defense and now is the time to use it. The government alone cannot do it.” On his part, the state chairman of CAN, Reverend Benjamin Ube called for intensified prayers for the people of southern Kaduna and Christians all over the country who “ have been subjected to systematic attacks since 2009”. Ube accused the Kaduna state governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of complicity in the killings in southern Kaduna, while also descrying President Muhammadu Buhari’s indifference to the killings and destruction caused by Fulani herdsmen. He advised the people to “match their prayers with actions” as “faith is not only theoretical but also practical and requires action for full manifestation”. They He added that the angels cannot come down from heaven to fight for the people. Meanwhile, the Council of Imams and Ulama in Kaduna state hasdemanded the arrest and prosecution of the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and others for the alleged escalation of the mayhem in Southern Kaduna. The Imams are insisting that the attacks on some villages in the area were heightened through inflammatory and false statements by those who they want arrested. |
The man is too obsessed with being in the limelight. |
psalmsjob:What those who make those biased comments failed to understand is that the herdsmen do not know that are ranting and where they come to know about those rants they don't factor them in their response to aggressions towards them. |
psalmsjob:I perfectly understand the dilemma of commenting on this issue because when you tell people to look at the root cause of such violence you risk appearing to be supporting the attacks and if you keep quite and allow the one sided narrative to continue more people would be misled. The aggression against the herdsmen. largely went unreported in the media and the government instead of dealing with the attackers on the herdsmen would draft security men to protect the aggressors. I don't want to sound as if I am not justifying the attacks by the Fulani herdsmen but if not for the fear of their reprisal they would have long been wiped out from the face of the earth. |
psalmsjob:This is the most sensible and unbiased comment on this thread. It is not justifiable to killed the way they did, especially attacking the policemen drafted to bring peace but communities must avoid situations that lead to such reprisal attacks. The truth is that you cannot kill 47 Fulani men's cows without killing some of them. Had the government and the communities concerned reached out to them to solve the problem may be the carnage would have been avoided. There was an attack on the Fulani, and according to the the police 47 cows were killed, all the police did was to post its men to guard the communities instead of looking for the attackers of the Fulani. If the government cannot protect them against their attackers these sort of violence would continue. You attack them first and when they retaliate you feign victim hood, the sympathy you gain on social media would not help you. Stop the attacks and the attacks on you stop. Period. Lastly I am calling on the government to deal with anybody involved in this violence be it the Fulani herdsmen or the settler communities who attack them. |
daprince098:What do you mean by it took him so long to react? He sent the IG of Police and other security officers to deal with the situation but you are not satisfied that is why an SSA to the President has to tell you that the IG and other top security are dealing with the situation as directed by the President. |
ivandragon:My friend where did you see zero import duty on cement? Is it a problem of comprehension or mischief? What I saw and I quote is: 'For machineries and equipment used in sectors such as agriculture , cement, hospitality , power , iron and steel , solid minerals , textile and aviation , the government, according to the circular , approved a zero import duty.' |
Where does this 'trezzyhelm' that specialises in putting forward dubious stories sprung from? Is it not the same blog that gathers gory pictures spanning years as evidence of a recent massacre in Kaduna South? Haba, something like this happened and no mainstream news medium reporting it? They did not specify when the said EFCC raid happened and yet they want us to believe the story. |
Fulaman198:Mi Pullo leddi Adamawa, Nigeria. |
revolt:Now you have raised a good and valid observation: why always Fulani? The answer to your question is that because they move in small numbers with their cattle (a huge fortune) people tend to take advantage of that and attack them. How is the forest a people's land? The forest where they graze their cattle is a common property of Nigerians. To the herdsmen retaliation for attacks on their brothers is a means to survival; they'll never stop it until they are no more attacked. They always make sure they are not the aggressors but when people take advantage of their isolation and attack them and efforts to get justice done in a peaceful way fail they retaliate in the most ferocious manner possible. |
Fulaman198:Mi hofni ma. |
Rayhutar:The other parts chose to live peacefully with others while the southern Kaduna people have developed a taste for blood since their genecide on the Muslim Zango community. |
Doyin2:When they talk about condemnation by the government they want the government to take sides by condemning the herdsmen only and going after them. They are not after fairness and justice but what they want is the government to side with them. |
farydah:It is you and your government's problem when you want to bring it into the matter. If you know the Fulani herdsmen well you will know that their nomadic nature gives them an edge over any settled community. They can move the vulnerable and their properties to safer locations while the crisis lasts. |
CAN a an organization which claims to be religious is a expected to be a peace maker not a peddler of lies. CAN knows that the violence in southern Kaduna is being perpetuated by both sides and yet they are feigning ignorance of the violence being perpetuated against the Fulani. My own advice to the president is that he should use all the powers at his disposal to deal with the trouble makers - both the Fulanis and the southern Kaduna people who are engaged in violence. |
Nasman:Well said derdam. |
This is why it is good to listen to both sides to a story. The secretary told their story and non of the comments above has shown any sympathy to their loses and this attitude is the general way Nigerians treat issues of attacks on the Fulanis. Attacks on the Fulanis largely go unreported by the Nigerian mass media. The secretary mentioned specific attacks on the Fulanis, the loses they have suffered as a result and measures they took to avert crisis but all all have been ignored. The people of southern Kaduna should take actions that are geared towards restoring peace to the area and not listen those calling for retaliation because if it comes to fighting the nomads clearly have the advantage. |
HIGHESTPOPORI:When your hero wanted to increase fuel prices we Nigerians vehemently rejected that because we know that the money realised would be stolen. Nigerians didn't go on the streets to protest because they believe their money won't be stolen. You are talking about 250 million Naira allegedly used to clear grass and this in itself is a testimony that corruption is being because in the immediate past, where at that level they steal in billions, this is too small to be noticed. |
We know that Buhari was not in charge when oil was selling at over $100 per barrel and the country was exporting over 2 million barrels per day. We know that he did not steal the money. We know that he he did not order the Niger Delta Avengers and order criminal groups in the Niger Delta to blow up pipelines thereby reducing the country's output to less than a million barrels per day. We also know that he is not responsible for the fall in price of oil to less than 29 dollars per barrel. These are facts Nigerians know and it is for this reason Nigerians are not on the streets protesting against the government. Perhaps the biggest reason for Nigerians putting up with the harsh economic policies is that money realized from the taxes and petroleum products price increase is not being stolen and it is the only reason that the government is still functioning. |
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will soon begin the conduct of its examination for private candidates twice in a year with effect from 2017. The council Registrar, Dr Iyi Uwadiae, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the council’s “Registrar’s Staff Appraisal Committee’’ meeting on Wednesday in Accra, Ghana. Uwadiae said, “The West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates known as the November/December diet for private candidates will now be conducted in January/February and August/September.’’ According to him, the measure is to ensure that many private candidates, who desire the certificate for various purposes, will have the opportunity of writing the examination and acquire the certificate. “We have concluded arrangements to commence writing of our WASSCE for private candidates twice a year from 2017. “This will take place in January /February and August/September every year in all the member countries. “This development, however, does not affect that of the school candidates, popularly called May/June. “That one remains once a year for all school candidates,’’ Uwadiae said. He explained that administering the WASSCE for private candidates twice a year was part of the projections of the council in 2017. According to him, as part of its mandate to render qualitative service to all member nations, the council is looking forward to a more rewarding 2017. “That is the essence of this meeting, which brings all the Heads of National Offices (HNO) from member countries together. “This meeting takes place once a year to discuss the appraisals of the international staff in member countries and recommend members of staff that are due for promotion. “During the meeting too, there is also a follow up action on staff with negative appraisals after which recommendations from the committee are forwarded to the international committee for ratifications. “All these are parts of what we do in order to make the activities of the council more relevant and beneficial to our people,’’ he said. Uwadiae lauded the HNOs for their resilience, doggedness and dedication in the face of peculiar challenges in their respective countries and for ensuring a smooth conduct of the examinations. Describing them as the council’s foot soldiers, the registrar thanked the HNOs for the support accorded him as the overall head of the regional examination body. “As foot soldiers of the council, I must say that they have done well and deserve the commendation of the council as we look forward to a better 2017. “They (HNOs) have been meeting the mandate of conducting and releasing results of the various examinations within the stipulated periods and coordinating activities in their respective national offices,’’ he said. Uwadiae said that WAEC was also looking forward to conducting its examination in many other countries with English speaking students, studying with Nigeria curriculum as possible. “We are open to any country in Africa which desire to have us set examination for students, who are being taught with English and uses Nigeria curriculum. “As long as these countries have all requisites needed for the conduct of our examination on ground, we will be there to carry out our mandate. “For instance, we are currently rendering such services to some French speaking countries like Togo, Benin Republic and Cote d’ Ivoire. “These countries approached the council and we are doing that for their English speaking students who want our certificates,’’ he said.
