Travel / How Much Does Passport Renewal Cost? by gbengaijot(m): 4:50pm On Oct 24, 2007
I visited the Nigerian immigration branch office in Osogbo today. i actually went there with my friend who wanted to renew his Passport which is due for expiration in december 2007.

Funny enough, immeditely we got to the gate, the two officers at the gate scrambled on us like touts asking us what we came for. I sheepishly answred out of sincerity that we want to renew passport and he immediately said N6000. i was like, wattttttttttttt six thousand what?. I was just going to walkin in when he followed us till we got to the main desk and i noticed that he whispered to the officer in charge of renewal. I mediately he left, the guy said, passport Renewal is N6000.

I simply told him it was expensive. Later on, i gve him a tested question. i was going to tell if he was lygin, Can i speak to Mr X(name witheld), i asked. He replied me by saying Mr X has been transfered and i laguhed on the inside of me. i simply beckoned on my friend that we should leave. On my way out, i told my friend, Do you know i don't know any Mr X. it was only an imagineary name,

Now my question is, HOW MUCH DOES A PASSPORT RENEWAL COST?.

I have been to the NIS website, but i am thinking the data is old. On there, they have a passport renewal for N2600, but equally, its written on there that payment should be made into a Standard trust bank account!( Thasts old innit?)
http://www.immigration.gov.ng/ServiceCharter.htm
Does anyone know?

why is it that immigration officers now tout and inflate prices. I am not really keen on my friend paying N6000 for a renewal when the issuance of a new one is N5100.
Sports / Who Is More Popular, David Beckham? Or Tiger Woods? by gbengaijot(m): 11:36am On Oct 13, 2007
Ok, I know this kind of sound dumb but i personally want the opinion of quite a lot of people. I was out with couple of my friends sometimes ago, and we were talking about the greatest sportsmen in history. I then made a declaration that "Tiger woods is one of the most popular sports me". I further went on to say "Tiger woods is more popular than David Beckham" and two of my friends rose against me. We argued this statement for more than two hours. I gave some pointers as to why i think he is more popular than David Beckham, but they wont bulge. being the person i am, i let the case rested until i was watching the E! channel on Satellite TV when a programme tagged "100 most popular celebrities" and tiger woods was ranked No 2 below Oprah Winfrey while Beckham was left on the 15th position. We revisited the argument again and we rambled on and on,

So we all decided to post this question on Nairaland and decide who we( a forum of more than 100,000 people) think is more popular

Is it David Beckham or Tiger Woods?

All comments will be appreciated

Actually Layi is right to say that you can make money in forex. I personally trade forex and i am quite good( to some certain extent) at it. I don't use managed accounts, but i manual trade myself.

While you can make an outrageous profit, you can also lose everything within a space of ten minute. It requires lot of forex intelligence to be a pro.

I feel that we all shoul not get excited with it all. Forex is not for everyone. It will never be.
Career / Re: I’m Leaving My Job To Go Back To School: by gbengaijot(m): 7:32pm On Jul 24, 2007
@poster of this thread:

Please please and please. Never even think of leaving your Job. Come to think of it, you have various needs that your job is satisfying for now. If you quit your job, you''ll find it very very difficult to meet those needs.

2. Nigeria is a rubbished system. I live in the Uk, but i love my country to smuch that i endeavou to visit at least three times ayear. At the moment, i spend quite a bit of time improving on an enterprise that has gone to its second developmental stage.  Nigerian Universities are not encouraging to pour out your time into full time. I can't belive that most universities were on strike from march till early july, am i making sense here?

3. If you want to take good advice, never ever think of leaving your Job(Seun, you did well on this one). Request for part time information from most leading institutions. I guess you aso know that you don't av to attend a Nigerian University to get a degree. You can get a degree from a UK university without even travelling to the UK. Its called distance learning, an i bet you could ssve up enough money to do that, if you are able to delay your gratification.

4. Think about a biz idea, like seun said, and invest your time and engergy into developing it to reality. Invest money in shares that will appreciate over time.

I guess this should just be enough start.

Please dont mind those people telling you to uit your job for a dumb useless university certificate when you can do it part-time.

@easimoni, thanks so much for that info. Ok, I am just learning more and more about the stock market. DO you have any recommendations for any hot stocks to buy.

Based on my untrained inexperienced analysis:

I am thinking that Unite Nigerian Textiles, IPWA, LASACO, are good stocks to buy. Can you subject this to scrutiny and give your recommentdations?

@spice, you do not need to open another CSCS account. COncerning your funds that remained with your stockbroker, i am quite wary of that as they are meant to return them back to you.

What kinda stockbroking firm will hold your money. they can only do, if they've not sold your shares. As soon as they do, they normally should give you a cheque or do a direct transfer.

However, i will advise you speak to someone at the firm, try to clarify what the issue is, if no hope is forthcomin, then i'll advise you threaten them with sueing,

I am sure and very very sure that my the adage my mum tells me is still tru and applies till today, and that is the fact that " a bird in hand is worth 2 in the Bush".

U need to ask yourself, if you'll lose your job by going for the interview. If you'll then i guess you shouldnt go.

I also assume that you can always fone in sick/get 2 days off to attend the interview. Cant you?

Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by gbengaijot(m): 10:19pm On Feb 26, 2007
The reason is that, i am looking for a stockbroker who i can sign up with and communicate to by phone. How can u request to buy a share at a price of 25 naira/unit on the day and your broker tells u that u cant buy until 4 days later when the price would have appreciate or depreciate. That is not really effective is it?,

May i ask, is sleeping with an agent the only way to becoming a top model?

I think you( the first poster) can beg to differ by threading on a new path instead of going the same wasy that most models go.
