Music/Radio / Asa Sings For Guaranty Trust Bank by gbengaijot(m): 5:17pm On Jun 22, 2009
I am so loving this song, considering the fact that i am a fan of Bukola Elemide (asha). This is another proof to individuals who think asha can only do just one hit album.

I was trying to login to internet banking today when i discovered a track rendered by Asa for Guaranty Trust Bank titled "A Place to be". You can download your own free copy at http://www.gtbplc.com/gt_tunes.php

Can we ( the fans of Asa) discuss the lyrics, the song & the production here please,

its only in Nigeria that we want people to do everything for us.

Why will you tell someone to help you look for a job

Why will someone tell you to pay them to get you a job. That is totally against the law. The Guy is totally a fraudster!!!

Even recruitment agencies will not charge you for getting you a job.

If you want to look for a job, do it yourself, dont employ someone to do it for you!!!

Business / Re: Somebody Emptied My Bank Account: Are Banks Safe Afterall? by gbengaijot(m): 6:22pm On Jun 03, 2009
I was in my room in Ibadan, Oyo State on a sunday afternoon early this year, when i recieved a text message on my fone. A withdrawal of N2,000 has been made on my saving account via ATM machine at a IBplc bank in Akure!.

For a moment, i thought i was dreaming, i rushed to my wardrobe to check for my card in my wallet. I saw it there, lying right in front of me. In actual sense, someone has withdrawn N2,000 out of my account with another card cloned in Akure, while i was in ibadan

Funny enough, i rarely leave more than 10K on my ATM card so as to avoid extravagant spending for the weekend. I spent 8K and had 2k left. Which simply means that the scammer would have withdrawn more if the account had more cash.

I went to the bank the following day complaining about this and the customer care person told me to cancel my ATM. I did, and then i asked him what will be done to my N2,000, he simply replied me that "It was chicken change", Can you guys imagine

the fact that this guy did not post a picture does not mean it is a scam!!!!. I mean, he's explained the reason why he could not post the picture, however, if anyone recieved the picture, then they should do justice by reducing the picture size and posting it here.

Not everyone that visit forums knows about file formats and file/picture reduction, give the seller a break and help him out,
Properties / Re: Somebody Is Claiming My Land. by gbengaijot(m): 9:33pm On Apr 02, 2009
@gudlook, i feel you. This can be very annoying you know. I have experienced it before.

@lawyer, i have a similar case really. My dad bought a piece of land in 1991 somewhere in Apata Ibadan. Over the years, the land which has a main road that runs right in front of it is now in a developed area. My dad visit it once a year or thereabout to see his land and clear the bush. For some reason, he wasnt able to visit last year and only did this year (about three months ago) and discovered that blocks of shops have been built on the land.

The land was two plot originally, the old man who sold the land to him built his own house on what plot and sold the other land to my dad. My dad then asked him who built on his land and the old man claimed he sold the land to another pastor because my dad refused to build on the land. He said this himself at the police station. So my dad got him arrested. The DPO of the police station in apata summoned the pastor to the station and his survey papers and agreement was dated 2008. My dad's survey and agreement was dated 1991. My dad does not have C of O actually and the pastor did not present one.

After weeks of visiting the police station, my dad was told to pay the man(the pastor) who built the block of shops the cost of building the block of shops on the land. I personally told my dad to involve a lawyer and sue him to court instead. He hasnt done that really, i guess he's scared of having a fight over landed property, but i'd like to ask for your suggestions really in relation to this.

Is it fair for him to pay the sum of 700K to offset the block of shops (that was the valuation), or sue him to court. Personally i do not think he should, but what does the law says in regards to this please. Is there anyway round this? please advice.

i aint a coder ooo. But here is my 2 cent;

lets assume i am a dry cleaner, and i use machine(open source) to wash clothe, and there is another dry cleaner that uses hand (build from ground up). He then claims to be a better dry cleaner than me? Does that make his claims true?

Its just a question ooo

My opinion is that, its not the means, but the end that matters. I believe Nairaland was created using open source (correct me if i am wrong), does that make seun an incompetent coder?

Music/Radio / Re: Isolate (arafada) Vs. 9ice (alapomeji) by gbengaijot(m): 12:26am On Mar 04, 2009
I've listened to isolate's "Sobosun". He sure is good. However, you guys need to realise that irrespective of whatever sentiment you have, he'll be considered a 9ice wannabe. Personally, on first contact with his music, i have a feeling that he's jst some gold digger trying to make money by being 9ice.

He should try and create a niche out of 9ice style. The more he sings like 9ice, the more he is considered a wannabe.

Beefing aint music. Either he likes it or not, 9ice has achieved a lot and trust me, i am positive that 9ice will not deliver nothing but the best!!!

If isolate is that good and has been around before now, why then is it that we only just hearing "sobosun"? I mean, Gongo Aso was not 9ice first album. Before Gongo Aso, he did "little money" and "Ganja" and in my own opinion both tracks are hotter.
Politics / Re: Child Witches Of Nigeria by gbengaijot(m): 8:10pm On Dec 12, 2008
I found this thread while chasing after Naijacutees every post. I would have kept silent about this all because some folks on nairaland see it as an avenue for showing their rudeness (I did said some folks, not generalisation). Having said that, i need to comment about debbie ariyo's AFRUCA.

I worked with AFRUCA as an intern for about 6-8 Months in 2003/2004 (can't remember fully now) and i can vouch for debbie Ariyo as i have known her ever since. At the time i worked there, every member of AFRUCA were unpaid, inclusive of debbie herself( i don't know now). I remembered getting only stipends for transport and materials used etc. Now, that is not the issue of the day, but i did say that to highlight that JJYOU's allegations are totally untrue. JJYOu did first of all attacked debbie for being a member of Holy grail. It is totally wrong of him to consider the fact that debbies campaign against fake and abusive pastors is born out of her religious inclinations. I am a christian, and virtually everyone who worked with debbie( at the time i did) Were christians and there was no trait of whatever JJYOU said.

Concerning funding, Afruca does not even get nearly as much funds as most NGOs in Nigeria, who write proposals and share their funding with the officials who gets the funding out. I do remembered that we write quite a lot of proposals on helping young africans in the Uk and Nigeria and we do not get fundings for that. As at that time, AFRUCA was the only african organisation based in the UK working against child abuse.

I have seen, interviewed, met young african children who have been abused and threatened. AFRUCA was the only organisation in the Uk that helps out on that. Debbie herself has been a subject of abuse, not based on what i heard, but what i see. abuse varying from verbal attacks and threats for helping out young children.

I remembered a situation where a young girl (about 16yr old) was brought to the office by immigration officials. In actual fact, she was being trafficked to spain via the UK borde. She was brought down to the office because she wouldnt talk due to fears of being attacked by witchcraft and voodoo.

While quite a lot of people think debbies work is restricted to the Uk, she does extensive work In Nigeria, in the area of awareness. However, there are a lot of restrictions based on funding.

@lubracasi, i do feel every word of your post, but i must say as well, that every funds you get as a charity organisation has to be spent on the proposed program you applied for for the funding.

I can beat my chest and vouch for debbie anywhere, and like she said, if JJYOU thinks any organisation is guilty of manipulating accounts or diverting funds, such organisation should be reported to the police, or the charity commision instead of making false allegations without a basis of proofs.

I know my post will generate abuse from some who are sentimental about the issue at hand, however, i will not respond to any abuse whatsoever.

Channel 4's show was to create enough instinct in every person living in the UK to TAKE ACTION. i believe the intent is not to paint us blacvk as africans. I would feel bad like i always do each time i watch young kids being paraded on cnn to be used to raise funds for charities, however, We take things too sentimental. This thing is happening in Nigeria, and someone did a documentary on the situation. It is our responsibility to take action in whatever way we can instead of refering to other problems in other parts of the world.
Music/Radio / Re: Mtv Africa Music Awards 2008 by gbengaijot(m): 12:06am On Dec 01, 2008
I personlly do not like two things about the awards.

1. How on earth will Ikechukwu win best music video for "wine am well". I think its really absurd.

2. How on earth will My Asa. My asalicious not win an award, Jeezz this is cheating, lol

Asa's performance was simply stunning. "tosin, the guy who rapped was HHP. Asa's voice on stage is thesame as her studio voice. She was bold, confident and sang with soo much calmness that you know that she is very good. Asa is simply stunning.

9ice as usual is simply 9ice. I am surprised that Jahbless was not on stage. Only god knows why. I love jahbless so much. I watch 9ice performance coz of hiim u knw.

Dbanj is crazy. That guy hasw sooo much attitude that i simply like him more and more. His award was dedicated to his mamalet, lol. Don Jerzy behaved like a don and didnt come out with the mohit crew. Maturity you'd say, innit

All in all, i think it was a really good award. Need i say that the stage was properly managed, the compere was good, everything was outstanding. For those ranting about who won what award. I think we are simply being sentimental about it all. Naija music is going places, 5 years ago when i started Naijabrains; a music blog, i never for once thought we'd have something like this in Abuja, not to talk of a co-live performance of Dbanj and kelly Roland.

I think you should ask nicely next time instead of being rude with your approach

some of d guys that were devoured by d sadist dragons
(who in my opinion just came to hav fun on young biz
people) do not hav comin to d den.

can't imagine made adult dragons takin so muc percentages
from baby drogons-in-d-makin.

If i am investing all my capital into a business, i am the one taking the bigger risk, so i expect to get more percentage. Moreover, the show is not a charity. This is proper business!!!

funkifunmi:

I love Dragon Den - it's a great show. For any fan of the show I would recommend Duncan Bannatyne's book- it is very inspiring.

The biggest thing I've learnt about the show is - only go on the show for free advertising. Cause if you've got a good idea they will screw you with crazy % for a business you've slaved over, If you have a bad idea they will make you look like a fool on TV.

The show proves the saying money makes money!

Yes you are right, the show gives free advert. However, even if you go to the bank to loan money to finance your business, you'll still have to pay crazy interest.

sleekymag:

I think Dragon's Den Nigeria is just another way to make the sponsors seem as though they are contributing to entrepreneurship in Nigeria, when in actual fact all they are doing is promoting themselves and making money from those who want to be part of the show (with the PIN issue) i.e. UBA and MTN.

I think they deliberately do not choose those with brilliant business plans and ideas but rather choose more of those with flawed ideas and plans, so they can make the dragons not part with their money, as much as possible (and selectively choose those whom they think would benefit from the scheme, i won't be surprised if those people have a customer relation with UBA, as in have accounts with them 4 sometime). I can't believe the number of those who appear on screen to make a fool of themselves, when in actual fact, they knew such people would make a fool of themselves. I know a few people with really brilliant ideas and products/services that registered but nothing for them as per appearing on the show. So to me, it's just one of those arranged mediocre shows on TV.
Jeezzzz, i am surprised at his. I expect proofs that they deliberately do not choose people with brilliant ideas. its not just about the ideas, its about the know how of the business, writing a good business plan, understanding the marketing terrain, competitive advantage and the rest. 90% of everyone that came on the show has a good biz idea, the question is; how many of them can display thorough planning and wherewithal?

kokorunna:

The nigerian dragon den is a good programme but majority of people appearing on it have good ideas but do little research on their project.

Business Plan - Zero
Presentation Skills - Zero
Common Sense - Zero
Profit Margain - Zero

It just seems that some people just want to appear on the show, majority make a fool of themselves.

I agree with you 100%. I have met loads of young entrepreneurs in the last five years at various programmes, seminars i attend. One guy once told me he need 2 million for a business and i asked how much he's made before and he could not point to just one proper sale on his biz idea. The biz idea does not even have business plan, no market survey. Yet he claims that no one was interested in his business idea.

I totally believe that YOU DO NOT NEED CAPITAL to start any business. Start first, before you start asking for capital.

@folarina, i dont think we should crucify grandstar for this.

if you cant afford to pay your mortgage, its possible to pay for one year rent, simply because when the house is sold, the seller will still have some money left, after the bank has taken their own balance.
Properties / Re: 1 Bedroom Flat In Milton Keynes For Sale. Excellent Bargain by gbengaijot(m): 1:27pm On Aug 20, 2008
@grandstar, the email response you posted on here solves it. Its true that if you sell your house and lease it back, you could pay as much as a year rent.

bletchley is very close to Bedford, and i have visited that place quite a few times before. having a one bed house in bletchley should not cost more than 70-80K so i'd say its not bad.

Becoming a forex trader does not mean that you make millions. a successful forex trader trades for a living, not to show off.
