Politics / Re: Rumoured Death: NLC Denies Calling On Buhari To Address the Nation by gbigbega: 11:23am On Jan 28, 2017
My issue with this saga is why Buhari will be quiet despite all the seriousness of the news going around. If the presidency is trying to defend the claim by posting pictures, why cant they just ask him to address the nation to so as to stop the rumour and put all this agitation and its resultant effect to rest. President Buhari's action is saying one of these :-
1. He is seriously sick or dead as some have purported
2. He has great disregard for the feelings of the people and don't care what they think, even if the country is going up in flames, He still does what he wants to do.

With the rising poverty in the nation, fulani's herdsmen killing, fuel hick etc If this rumour comes out to be false, I can confidently conclude that we have a president who doesn't give a dam what we feel or go through.

Family / Re: My Wife Is Too Proud To Apologise by gbigbega: 8:36am On Oct 07, 2016
nnamdiosu:

First of all..I havent heard your wife's side of the story. So I won't totally blame her. In all matters I know there are always two sides to a coin.

Now from the little I have read I can see you and your wife are two honest loving people trying their best in this union. And that's the key to a lasting marriage.

1. First ensure you carefully filter the suggestions that people will give here (including mine). Be wise. Nl is full of sadistic and occultic folkes.

2. People are different. They also apologise in different ways. Now I don't know ur wife but you will be in the best shoe to know. Some of my friends outrightly apologise. Others come near me and indirectly apologise. Some eben indirectly blame me jokingly and tell me they've forgiven me! Even wen its clear to a blind man that they were annoyed. You have your own way. I have my own way. She has her own way.

Truth is an apology is not out of place. Maturity demands that one should apologise for a wrong act...but wisdom accepts that no two people are the same. Does she show an apology in some other way? If yes...then accept while still trying to show her why a spoken apology is more ideal. If no.....then it is well.

3. To be frank...it is very very wrong for a wife to disobey her husband. In that aspect she was 100 % wrong. Very wrong. But maturity and compromise is needed in marriage in all matters. Since you've talked to her and she doesn't want to listen. Call her and ask her y indeed she really disobeys and uses the product. If the reason isn't holding water....ask her if she will prefer cooking separate pots of food for u too. At least that will help solve the problem. She has her way..u have your way.

3. I admire your patience and love for her. I felt your pain. But now...put aside that pain....and pick understanding and love. Truth is, ideally in all ramifications, she is wrong. But let's forget about that. Try the steps I gave.. Esp the frank talk with her. Find that right time when she is in that emotional state of mind (after sex? Or buying her a gift), and tell/ ask her y she is disobeying u.
Lastly commit it into the hands of God. Only God can help u direct a woman. Because they are the last thing he created, very mysterious, very surprising yet very lovable and emotional.

And madam if and if I say (cos I know there are different sides to a story) what Oga said is true...then remember that only a foolish woman plucks her home down with her own hand. I've seen good marriages break down for issues less than this. Yours will not be so in Jesus name. Amen.

Excellent Response. OP please take that advice no. 1 into consideration and don't let people who have already broken their own home derail you with their advice.

Religion / Re: Is Baptism Necessary For Salvation? by gbigbega: 3:15pm On Sep 25, 2016
The answer is simply in John 3:5, Jesus told Nicodemus 'verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man is born of Water and SPIRIT, he cannot see the kingdom of God'. being born of the water is baptism, being born of spirit is being born again.

Politics / Re: Is Jonathan Or Buhari To Blame For Poor Economy? by gbigbega: 3:08pm On Aug 15, 2016
Look at it this way.

I have a company that is 100% functional and I have two sons (GEJ and PMB). I put the first born, GEJ in charge of my company and when I came back I was informed company has gone down by 40% leaving me with only 60%(in 5 years), I was told GEJ squandered it and allowed thieves to cart away my properties. I fired him and gave it to my second son PMB. I was also told how PMB stopped the thieves and fired the unproductive managers, how he went after many of the thieves and collected all the loots with them, how he reduced the workers benefits so that they can also feel the 40% lose in the company.
I came back to take stock but was amazed that my company as gone down another 40% (in just one year) leaving me with only 20%. I am left confused because the company strive better under GEJ (at least it took 5 years to get a 40% low). I am beginning to think that the people feeding me the information are exalting PMB and putting down GEJ because obviously the result are not correlating with their claims.

Tell me how can the one who have stopped the looting, collected the stolen funds, stop the revenue leakage by removing subsidy, increase tax etc. How can he be complaining when he has all this multiple income.

Please watch Former CBN governor (Sanusi Lamido) town hall meetings here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7QDjzTTrag. GEJ's used almost all the money he got from the high crude oil price to pay for subsidy, to alleviate the sufferings of the people. PMB removed the alleviation and yet we are still in a mess.

Politics / Current Fuel In Most Petrol Station Is Light And Burns Faster by gbigbega: 4:11pm On Jun 17, 2016
I had thought that something was wrong with my car, with the rate at which my fuel burn recently. I was almost going to see the mechanic when I asked many of my colleagues and they all testified that their fuel burns faster now than before.

Its terrible to see that despite the N145 new fuel price, the government through the marketers are selling Nigerians low quality fuel that burns faster than before. I can say that its better to buy the old fuel at N200 than this adulterated one. This is really unfair on the poor masses.

Please let me have your opinions and cry out. Make them no kill the mass finish o.

Politics / Okonjo Iweala To Speak At MIT To Doctorate Students by gbigbega: 8:08am On Apr 26, 2016
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to give address at 2016 Investiture of Doctoral Hoods

Nigerian economist and MIT alumna will be the guest speaker at the June 2 ceremony.

Chancellor Cynthia Barnhart has announced that alumna Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala MCP ’78, PhD ’81, former Nigerian finance minister, will be the guest speaker at MIT’s 2016 Investiture of Doctoral Hoods.

“Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership on the complex global stage of economics and politics demonstrate the real-world impact of an informed and compassionate scholar. We are honored that she will return to MIT to share that vision of service with our doctoral candidates,” says Barnhart.

The Investiture of Doctoral Hoods ceremony, held the day before Commencement, featured a guest speaker for the first time last year. This new tradition solicits input from MIT faculty and doctoral students, with the aim to invite as guest speaker an MIT alum who can encourage and inspire students as they begin their new careers. “I’m thankful to the faculty and the student committee for their thoughtful recommendations,” says Eric Grimson, chancellor for academic advancement and chair of the Commencement Committee. “This is truly a collaborative effort and I’m delighted that we will all have the privilege of hearing Dr. Okonjo-Iweala speak at such an important moment in the lives of our doctoral candidates.”

Okonjo-Iweala was born in Nigeria and came of age in the late 1960s, enduring the fragmentation of her nation and the horror of civil war. Undeterred in her commitment to continuing her education, Okonjo-Iweala made her way to the United States, where she received her undergraduate degree at Harvard University. She did her graduate work at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, receiving an MCP in 1978 and a PhD in regional economics and development in 1981.

After serving 21 years at the World Bank, first as a development economist and later as vice president and corporate secretary, Okonjo-Iweala became Nigeria’s minister of finance in 2003. During her three-year tenure, her influence was key to repositioning Nigeria as a nation in recovery, including initiating negotiations that ended in Western creditor nations acquiescing to cancel $30 billion of Nigerian debt. In December 2007, Okonjo-Iweala returned to the World Bank as managing director, the second-highest position in the organization. In that time, she oversaw the World Bank’s $81 billion operational portfolio in Africa, South Asia, Europe, and Central Asia, and led several World Bank initiatives to assist low-income countries during the 2008-2009 food crisis. In 2010 she successfully chaired the World Bank’s drive to raise $49.3 billion in grants and low-interest credit for the world’s poorest countries. In 2011, love and loyalty for her country called Okonjo-Iweala back to Nigeria, where she served as minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy, wherein she was responsible for managing the finances of Africa’s largest economy. She left the position in 2015 and is currently a senior advisor at Lazard, a global financial advisory and asset management firm. She is also the chair of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.

Okonjo-Iweala has been ranked among the 50 greatest world leaders (Fortune, 2015) and the top 100 most influential people in the world (TIME, 2014). She was awarded the David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award in 2014 and the John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Services Award in 2010. “Ngozi is a profound example of the way a leader can transform academic theory into tangible practical results, using knowledge to truly change nations,” says Professor Eran Ben-Joseph, head of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. “We couldn’t ask for a better example of ‘mind and hand’ at work to inspire our students.”

The 2016 Investiture of Doctoral Hoods will take place on June 2 at 11 a.m. in the Johnson Athletics Center Ice Rink. The ceremony is open to family and friends of doctoral candidates; no tickets are required.
Career / Re: Should I Resign My New Job For A Contract Job? by gbigbega: 11:50am On Apr 12, 2016
I usually don't comment much on nairaland but I think I need to comment on this to maybe save you from a grave mistake.

first of all I need to tell you I had worked as a contract staff for 6 years before I finally got my deliverance and got out. I had to resign without even knowing where to go or not having any job to fall back to .

The truth is, contract job is slavery. If they offered you 400k, and you are currently earning 100k, I will still ask you not to take the contract job.

I left a telecom company and joined an oil and gas company as a contract staff because the pay was about triple what I was earning. as at then (2007), my take home was about 107k (apart from housing and other benefits). I regretted by action after 4years because my former collegues where now earning more or about the same. It became difficult to leave because, I was still in the same position as I came in - no promotion, no change of position. My other colleagues were promoted to positions like manager, CTO, senior Manager/ engineers etc with years of experience, I was left with the same name I came in with. This made it very difficult to pull out and impossible to get a job of half the amount they are paying me because of my position and no other experience than the one I came with. I have been doing the same thing for 4 years - no change.

The contract trick works this way, you can be employed as a customer support staff and be paid 300k. At the point of your employment the money is big and cannot be compared with any other customer support staff job in other companies, so it seem you hit jackpot. The true begins to reveal itself when after 4 years you are still a customer support staff and all your colleagues are now managers, supervisors, senior staff with wealth of experience. Their salary keeps increasing, meet and surpasses yours and you remain a mere support staff. In the job market you CV carries an entry level experience and you are not considered for better jobs like supervisors, manager etc because you don't have any other experience- you become stuck. If you decide to resign and take a customer support work work somewhere else, they will ask to pay you 100k or 150k at most (returning you back 4 years what you use to be). It becomes very hard.

Its like Nigerians who travel abroad with good qualification and end up doing mania jobs. Initially it looks good but after some years they discover that they have put themselves into slavery because all their colleagues are now big men and they can no longer compete with them.

Be wise my brother, anywhere that has no prospect will never give you joy. You will hate yourself for making that decision later. while I was there, all the contractors hated themselves and wished they never made the decision.

I later had to resigned after 6 years (I used 2 more years trying to get out, or getting another job). Today I am thanking God for it. I started my business and life's been good- actually, its been better.

Don't dear do it.

Celebrities / Re: Regina Askia's Open Letter To Buhari by gbigbega: 4:29pm On Mar 06, 2016
mrmetoo1:

All you people with your selective amnesia. Naira was already officially devalued to N197 when Jonathan was leaving so I'm not sure where you were changing yours for N165. Also I like how you guys are always conveniently comparing official rates during the Jonathan administration to the black market rates when talking about Buhari administration.

Back to madam Regina. This woman has been out of Nigeria working as a nurse for years. If things were good in Nigeria before now, why was she there? She said she agrees he's fighting corruption although unpopular, please can you ask her who it's unpopular among? Me and those I know are happy about it. The way some of you guys came here and boasted Buhari could never get enough votes because of the people around you is the same way some people think the anti-corruption fight is unpopular because of the people around them. We voted Buhari to fight insurgency, he's doing that. Boko Haram is no longer holding territories, roads that have been shut down for years are being reopened. Boko Haram is no longer attacking army barracks and making away with tanks and weapons. Even the hard to control bomb blasts have reduced significantly. The recently kidnapped girls are being rescued. You're a conman/woman and a liar if you feel all the evil we've been living with in Nigeria for decades will disappear in less than a year. The economy is in a bad shape and we can argue all day how we got here but I know things will get better soon with the passing of the budget. At least that'll act as a stimulant while the core is being fixed.

If some people want to act like we having come far from where we were, some of us don't mind reminding them.

Weapons purchased by Jonathan regime that cannot fight bokoharam is now fighting them. I suspect something.
Forum Games / Re: How Smart Are You ? Is This Murder Or Suicide ? by gbigbega: 8:25pm On Feb 25, 2016
Its murder. If you reconstruct the scene, the way she fell show the gun force pushed her to the right, which means she was seated facing the window. If she was seated facing the window and she as a gun to her right hand, she will put the gun to the right side of her head and the force of the gun will push her to the left side of the room. Also the way the gun is placed in her hand should not splash blood on the window but the opposite site of the room.

i.e gun on her right hand means she shut herself from the right side of the head and she should have been pushed to the left site of the room not the right she is currently. Also with a gun to her right hand the blood should be splashing to the other side of the room not the window.
If the people who framed her dead wanted to make it perfect, the gun should have been on the other hand.

Reverse the scene in your head. let her be seated on that stool pointing the gun at her head and you will notice the blood would not splash on the window but the other side and also that she will not fall in the direction she did.

I can see DSTV loosing the Nigerian market soon because of their cost and stringent service delivery.

I know one thing that can work- it worked for all the people it was recommended for. If you are chanced, I will like to invite you for a program in Miango Jos coming up on the 27th of April to 1st of May. Its called the Couples Fellowship Retreat, an annual event.

The Couples Fellowship Retreat takes place in Miango Rest Room Jos, with couples from different denomination coming together to have fun discuss marriage issues and get to rediscover each other. The talks are really, really good, there is time for discussion on real life issues, people openly speak about issues they have and they get response from matured couples of similar event and how they handled it. A marriage counselor is also employed to teach on marriage issues and do one on one with couples that need it. On the Saturday of the event, couples have a 'Renewal night'; an event where you give yourselves gifts and say your marriage vows again.

This program changed my marriage and many others. I know of couples who came to do their honey moon in this program. No one comes and want to ever miss it again. Most of the couples coming resides in Abuja, but that does not stop any one from coming. I was once's in Bonny Island River state and was attending the program in Jos - I cross air, land and sea to get there. My sister who introduced me to the program leaves in USA now but she is contemplating coming for this one- It is that important.

I can assure you your home will take a turn for the best and if you go this time, you will never want to miss it again no matter the location you reside.

You can call me on 09093478754 tomorrow for more details. I do hope you consider this.

Dr. Opeyemi Enoch was accused of plagiarism. Some bad blood bloggers have accused him of hacking into the account of a dead researcher and stealing his work.

Well, the University took up the matter, obtained the dead researchers work and called Dr. Opeyemi Enoch to a panel to verify the plagiarism claim. After due scrutiny and comparison, the accusation was found to be false as the work of both mathematician was absolutely different. The university is now solidly behind is work and have writing to accusing bodies, with evidences to show that his work is original. Its pathetic to know that people think Africans are incapable of doing great things. This time, they are very wrong.

Politics / Buhari, Tinubu And Saraki Are Playing Us. by gbigbega: 12:57pm On Oct 19, 2015
Buhari, Tinubu and Saraki are playing us. This is what is happening

After the Saraki Senate presidency election saga which generate lack of support from the Tinubu and continual pretence by the president feigning neutrality, Saraki was ready for a show down with them when it comes to approving ministers. It was because of this that APC (the presidency and Tinubu) had to postpone the release of the nominees (as you can see that there was no surprise in the list of names sent- same old people). They postponed the list because they needed to either appeal or force Saraki to approve their nomination. Finally they got CCB and CCT to do the dirty job. It was about the same period Saraki was being tried that the list was release - they weren't trying to indict him but was trying to blackmail or force him to give them a sail through the ministerial screening. Saraki attended the first court summon and then the case was postpone. The postponement was to give enough time to get him on the table and give the ministerial nominees a smooth sail. They caught Saraki in a tight corner and he has no choice but to make sure every nominee is passed even those with many corrupt allegations against them (Fashola, Ameachi and some others) - You can see Saraki is working tooth and nail to get this done, he has no choice, that is the bargain- You pass them, you retain your seat.

Recently, there are different news in the media stating how the CCT case will be crush. Don't count on it, it is as good as dead.

If this anti-corruption war is sincere, the likes of Ameachi and Fashola should not even smell that list but as you can see, they are on the list and all the senators are fighting tooth and nail to get them passed, despite the humongous corruption allegation against them. If you ask me, Saraki's non declaration of a single asset is a child's play compare to the number of allegation leveled against Ameachi and Fashola, yet our president is not saying anything.

I don't understand Nigerians at all, we want Saraki tried because of the allegations level against him and yet we don't want the likes of Fashola and Ameachi tried. We have already chosen sides even though non of them have been proven guilty.

The true fight of corruption should be based on equity and sincerity. They should all be tried and if found guilty convicted according to the law. The man on the wheel also is definitely choosing who to fight, what administration to probe and who should be made the scapegoat. A total repeat of the Obasanjo's administration.

My people open you eyes and be sincere.

I pray for Nigeria with fingers crossed.

By now you should stop using Saraki saga as the yardstick to measure Buhari anti-corruption fight. If the likes of Ngige, Fashola, Ameachi etc with corruption charges hanging on their head could be submitted as ministerial nominees, then you should know the corruption fight is either untrue, insincerely or opposition targeted.

I think Buhari is typical Nigeria, who crucify who they hate and justify who they love. Many are crying wolf on Sakari's issues and are justifying the likes of Ameachi and Fashola despite the overwhelming evidences. Education / Type Of Nairalanders by gbigbega: 4:50pm On Sep 04, 2015
TYPE OF PEOPLE ON NAIRALAND

1. ADMIN – These are the gods of Nairaland. They decide whose post makes frontpage, whose post is seen, who is banned etc.. Invisible but powerful and sometimes annoying.

2. POSTERS 1- CREATORS - These people are good at creating exciting topics that gets people talking. they are creative and have a good thought process.

3. POSTERS 2 - THE 'PASTERS' - These people are content creators too, but they are only good at picking news from aother site, blog etc. and pasting it on Nairaland.

4. FIRST TO COMMENT - These people are always fighting to be the first person to comment on any hot topic. For some it’s a coincidence but for many it has become a job. They sit on their computer and keep refreshing waiting for hot topics. When they get the opportunity to comment first, they celebrate like crazy, thanking their first and second generation, their phones, their internet connection etc. You can call them the crazy Nairalanders.

5. SECOND TO COMMENT - For some it’s nothing but for many they get upset because they have been refreshing their browser to get the opportunity to comment first. They are like the biblical cripple man by the pool of Bethesda, who never gets the opportunity to enter the water when the angel comes to steer it. They complain and sometimes curse out on the first to comment for taking their space. Some of them still celebrate their position anyway. They may seem silent sometimes but they are surely there.

6. THE 'SPACE RESERVERS'
- This people have nothing to say but just because they feel its a hot topic and want to feel among, they type things like 'space reserved', 'mtcheew','hmmm' or put an icon. When the topic is hot, they just can help keeping quiet.

7. THE 'CALLERS' -- when this set of people want to comment, they call out another nairalander. They go like 'oya Buhari apologist over to you', 'Seun over to you', ‘ where is lalai.. say something‘

8. CAMPAIGNERS - They are either sponsored by a politician or they are politicians. One side supports a politician no matter what bad they do, while the other antagonizes a politician no matter what good they do. Even when 'Callers' call them out, they are still back tomorrow on another post, supporting or antagonizing.

9. FRONTPAGE ADVOCATES - All they do is fight to make sure a post get to the front page, probably because they enjoy its content, it’s their post or they are the first to comment.

10. CURSERS-- These ones have issues with having a civil discussion. They will curse you even if all you say is 'hello'.

11. FIGHTERS - This one’s are always fighting with someone on Nairaland sometimes over annoying issues. They will not stop and will drag more 'fighters' into the fight. They are also always looking for already trending fights to join, which side to support and who to curse out. Many of they are also 'cursers'.

12. BIGOTED - It’s a waste of time trying to sell your idea to them. They are strongly opinionated and would never back down on their belief; they are also out to demean people of contrary opinion or belief. They are mostly found in the religion forum.

13. SIDON LOOK - They don’t comment but they read every comment; actually, comment reading is why they are on Nairaland. No matter how pressed they are, they will not comment. Nairaland for them is like newspaper- you can only read and not comment.

14. EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS - This people are not liked at all. They are very annoying and they post comment that arouse emotion. They seem not to care what you say, they will still annoy you. They enjoy doing it. Some of them have been banned severally but they will still come back with another username to continue their trouble.

15. THE PHOTO TALKERS - This one takes Nairaland so seriously that they purchased a photo editing software to express their opinion. They use funny illustrations and photos to express their opinion. The picture I find most hilarious is the picture of a squirrel raising up its hand with a caption which read ‘ Oh God dash this person below me sense’;

16. LAZY READERS -- They are not on Nairaland to read news, so when your post goes beyond 5 lines, you'll get their ' it’s too long, who will read this' comment.

17. MARKETERS - They are on Nairaland only to market goods and services. To achieve this they pretend to be interested in a topic, offer a lame view and then post another paragraph marketing their latest designer t-shirt.

18. PASSERBY - This one’s love Nairaland as much as to always visit it but have not made up their mind to join.

Politics / TYPE OF NAIRALANDERS by gbigbega: 12:52pm On Sep 03, 2015

Politics / Re: Is Senate President Saraki Jittery? by gbigbega: 2:59pm On Aug 03, 2015
Its unfortunate that Nigerians who want to true democracy will be the one tongue lashing someone who was duly elected according to the Nigeria's democratic process. We would rather support Tinubu who is ready to usurp all the powers in the presidency, senate and house of rep through the back door (a disturbing show of shame).

My opinion, support democracy all the way, Saraki was duly elected he should be allowed to function. If he messes up, he should be thrown out according to Nigeria's democratic process.

Tinubu should be put in his place, he should realize that this is not AC or Lagos where he does the hand-picking. obviously, his definition of democracy goes by contrary to the peoples definition.

Ekwerenmadu should be probed and if found guilty, he should be thrown out but if innocent we should rally to support him too.

We have to have a very clear mind in making sure only the true democracy we voted for prevailed in this country. We will not allow anybody whatsoever to hijack it because of individual or party interest. NIGERIA IS BIGGER THAN THEM ALL.

TV/Movies / Re: UNEXPECTED - SHORT FILM - By Dyoungstar and Umanu by gbigbega: 9:36am On Jun 23, 2015
good job. however you need to make sure all your props are out of the way when filming. at about 0:49mins your tripod and camera bag was visible on your scene- not professional.

Also your storyline is not realistic, typical of most Nollywood movies. You have to make your story believable even if it is most unlikely. for example it is most unlikely for a plane to fall from the sky and kill him but it is more realistic than his gun gaining a life of its own and killing him.

keep posting your stuff for people to criticize and help out with such start, you are on your way to stardom.

Whoever David mark supports will b the next senate president.. Hate or love him, he weighs so much influence among senators

agreed. That is if he doesn't support himself.

For democracy sake, i prefer Saraki. I think APC leadership that he will be too in-between having being in PDP and APC. They want somebody who can do whatever they want not minding the interest of Nigerians. I prefer an in-between man without biased allegiance. There will be more change for a democratic deliberation that truly represent the will of the people than that of a party
