They say make we dey drink our gas by ourselves, now gas don cost how many people dey buy gas? They said price should go down, the government should subsidize(with which money?) then in next 10 yrs gas production decline, 30 years it becomes comatose due to lack of fund for maintenance and improve further production, then we starts importing cheaper gas in large quantities naira turn 5000=$1 we blame the president then! Problem persist and we gnash our teeth, why? Because we forget to expand our customer base now.

People needs to understand that Nigeria market is a poor market, who dey open shopright for village, or dey spend billions to open hotel for okpele. Who go patronize you? How much you go make? You go get profit to advance am,or you go dey run am with your money at a loss? How many billions Nigeria market fit give us compare to Europe?

People suppose to dey think sometimes not just to follow the bandwagon.
If Nigeria could achieve this feet which I doubt due to the cost, security concern and geopolitical issues, this will be the biggest thing in this country and can spring up massive tonnage of development if funds are well utilized.
All people know how to do is criticize Government and nothing else. Most of our youths, sorry to say don't even know anything.
Government began this project mid 2020, alongside that they had to complete the Warri-Itakpe rail which has helped this project and other projects greatly. These in my opinion are key projects for us to earn revenue from gas, but this nairaland space is just full of ignorant people. Its' a shame.

Quick answer, the EU turned to USA, Saudi and Qatar but they rejected because they didn’t have the capacity and couldn’t supply more than what they have… Nigeria as a lawless and very corrupt nation don’t even have the capacity to produce nor manage what we are exporting to Europe. If you are well read and you understand geo-politics and diplomacy, you did know that Nigeria is a pawn and puppet nation to western nations, what the western nations offers Nigeria in form of diplomacy is threats, sanctions and bribes.

Have you asked yourself, what is Nigeria benefiting in return from the oil and gas stolen from its chores? Printed paper which is backed by nothing and will be paid in European banks and in their currency which still stays in their economy. You see one of the reasons why that naira you hold in your hand doesn’t have value? You see why you have to give testimony when you get visa to go to Europe to still go work as a slave? I can go on and on…

This level of this topic might be too complicated for you to understand, it’s deep brother and I would be wasting my time explaining to someone like you who is trapped in a western bubble.

The only African leaders that are living and can stand up to western threats is
President of Uganda
President of South Africa
President of Ghana
Then maybe president of Rwanda

But you see the rest are puppets and they are also agents of the three letter word agency

I ll give you a link below to give you a hint of how africa is viewed overseas

Something Nigeria should had planned and done many years ago...its now you want to do it.... and to build pipe line from Nigeria to Europe will take some years and needs a lot of money to complete such a project.... Nigeria was not serious about the natural gas. God bless the country with.. as Nigeria is not also serious with the crude oil we have... refineries are not working to refine the crude oil,.. to fuel, disel, kersosene ..but Nigeria is importing the fuel...our politcians are not serious just fighting for their selfish interest
The Algeria to Europe infrastructure is already done. Once Nigeria completes the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano section, all that would be left would be the Niger-Algeria section. All of these are achievable in few years.

First, remove Peter Obi from that statement because he has neither been your president nor minister of power/petroleum resources.

Secondly, if Buhari was a sensible man, he would know that it was more logical to borrow and fix power instead of railways. For goodness sake, Nigeria was doing so fine without those so-called railways because we had federal and state roads all over the place.

The borrowing should have gone into power generation, transmission and distribution. This is critical in Nigeria's economy. Sadly, he chose to fix railways because northerners are only interested in easily moving their imported goods from Lagos ports to their region and Niger Rep.

Oga, stop defending the undefendable because it makes you appear senseless. That's why it is said that people lose their common sense the moment they join the APC.
That Warri- Itakpe rail is as important as power. If you know, you know.

And the plants and generators that will use the gas will be gotten how?

The gas will magically transform into transmission wires, dams, the electric cables etc and when the Government wants to pay the workers working in the power stations, they will pay them in gas abi?

Most of you Nigerians doesn't even know there is paining you. Most of you don't follow news.
Buhari paid for the building of some power plants way back in 2017 and it's not until December this year that they will be transported to Nigeria. You think everything good can just be willed to happen and it will happen.

You are not getting it that gas can be used to make 24hr electricity.

Europe needs the gas to power their electricity and keep them warm in winter.

No problem in selling the gas but why is the gas not used for Nigeria’s development.
The building of the pipeline would also improve our electricity and revive many industries across the North. There is also expansion of the Lagos-Escravos pipeline.

What is going on with inflation in Ghana? We're grappling with the same issue in Nigeria and it's effects are scary. Food prices are higher than during covid. There have been protests in Senegal with a few people shot dead by government agents
You mean protests in Sierraleone? Funny thing is that the funny Sierraleone Government said the protesters are simply terrorists from outside the country grin.

As for Ghana, they would have to hold on tight for now until the coming of the 750 million dollars Afreximbank loan in the short term and IMF 3 billion dollars loan on the long term, to help shore up their foreign exchange through improved foreign reserves or dollars inflow. This would help reduce inflation in Ghana greatly.

How much exactly is an Nigerian benefiting from oil proceeds? -0%

How much are we as a nation benefiting from the government? Same -0%

What make you think an average Nigerian will benefit from something they can’t even provide for us at cheaper rate?

Lebanon economy has collapse completely, same with Sri Lanka, Venezuela and others. The reason Nigeria hasn’t collapsed yet is because of her citizens don’t live on government provisions! Because they never provide for us so we got independent from the government. We are so independent that even if there isn’t a dollar in Federal account we will still survive!

Who is the poorly educated and poorly inform now?
How much exactly is an Nigerian benefiting from oil proceeds? -0%
This is not entirely correct. Given our population, without oil resources we would have been worse. Government can afford to subsidise education because of oil money. You pay 165-200 naira today for fuel ( one of the lowest in the world) because NNPC pays the bulk of the subsidy.

How much are we as a nation benefiting from the government? Same -0%
Are you ready to be taxed for even having a shop in Naija? Because that's how oyinbo operates. Government gave many of us education at a cheaper rate. Today many use same education to go for doctorates or Masters abroad and the degrees are accepted. Our doctors graduating with such cheap school fees from Naija can afford to be employed directly in U.K and U.S where most of the Doctors there had to depend on loans to become Doctors.

What make you think an average Nigerian will benefit from something they can’t even provide for us at cheaper rate?
So because you think we can't benefit from it, they shouldn't build it at all?

Lebanon economy has collapse completely, same with Sri Lanka, Venezuela and others. The reason Nigeria hasn’t collapsed yet is because of her citizens don’t live on government provisions! Because they never provide for us so we got independent from the government. We are so independent that even if there isn’t a dollar in Federal account we will still survive!
Sri Lanka's collapse could have easily being predicted years ago. Nigeria's situation is not close to that of Srilanka or Venezuela. Sri lanka for example had debt defaults for some time now. Nigeria on the other hand have many more ways of increasing revenues than Srilanka or Venezuela. But I agree with you, I like the business/independent spirit of the Nigerian people.

You Know I'm still at a loss why Nigerians don't understand these things. You need to monitor whatever you give to the people wether blacks or whites or else it would be a mess. That's the difference between the developed world and us. They got institutions to reward and punish. How can you just hand materials to poor people and go to bed? There was a documentary I saw about Zimbabwe. The government gave seeds to farmers and the poor farmers instead of growing the seeds ate the seeds. grin You destroy your country by keeping people poor and you think you can just give them stuff and trust them. The government is the one sabotaging its own efforts. You got to handle it in partnership with the private sector, especially investment banks, vif you want results.
Exactly, if Government wants to distribute wheat to farmers for instance, they should have involved big private sector entities. Large well known private conglomerates in Agriculture like BUA or Zenith Bank and the others should have controlled it, because they are well known in Nigeria and can easily be held accountable if we don't make profit from the wheats.

You see, the difference between Oyinbo and us is that no matter who rules, there are already institutions in place to check corruption and indiscipline of this nature irrespective of the Government. This waste and anyhowism we see in Nigeria is not just under the Buhari's Government but even with previous Government because there are little to no systems in place to demand accountability.

Until a few months ago, when it started appearing in my you tube recommendations, I wasn't aware of Arise TV becos I didn't watch any Nigerian news channel.

I vaguely remembered there was Channels TV. Not seen NTA anywhere for about 15yrs. I'm just not interested.

Back to arise. I have now watched a few of their interviews - the ones hosted by Mr Abati, and 2 others.

I quickly observed that:

1. Too often, the hosts can't resist taking things too personal. If they feel slighted by a guest, they won't hesitate to respond in like manner huh The Abiola lady even used the platform to attack her sister. Abati launched his infamous personal attack on Wike. Very unprofessional lot.

2. The hosts lack the capacity to ask penetrating questions. Their questions are too often simplistic, tedious, and dense.

3. On nairaland, I've been hearing one Rufai this, Rufai that, so I've been curious to watch the guy...and my observation? Very average, play-to-the-gallery interviewer.

The guy on Channels, Okin Balogun or something, is far more incisive, capable, balanced and professional than anything on Arise
Channels presenters remain the best in Nigeria. Seun has his faults, but his strength lies in his ability for follow up questions. He knows how to press further than any presenter on Arise TV. Others like Chamberlain, Kayode, and Maope are not also bad. Arise TV is not totally bad though but there's great room for improvement.

You just buttressed my point, bro. How can a government import expensive seeds and give it to hungry illiterate farmers without any form of monitoring. And no punishment for misbehavior. It's not done that way in sane climes. Even in the past in Nigeria it wasn't done that way. There used to be government agencies taking data from time to time to monitor the farmer's progress. Another option is to let a bank handle it. They know what they are doing. They just wanted to use national resources to enrich some poor northern farmers.
It's not really about enriching Northern farmers, it's the irresponsibility of the CBN and Federal Government. This is not the first time something like this is happening and even in the Jonathan Government.
For instance, I heard from a close friend how early on in this Government, some farm equipments and other goodies were disbursed to poor farmers in some communities in Anambra by the Federal Government. These stuffs didn't get to the farmers but were diverted by the local councils who were to direct them to the farmers. What did the federal Government do about it? Does the federal Government even know that those resources were diverted?

How do you release money to your wife or children even as a responsible father and not monitor how it's being disbursed or monitor the progress with data, and holding culprits accountable?

Not necessarily, the government of the day is always criticized more, is always asked the more difficult questions. So to a supporter of the present government, it would seem as if they are PDP inclined
It's not about criticism of Government, it's rather about analytical criticism. Your talking points should be factual or truth probing, not based on beer parlour gist or rumours of the common people. As a journalist, you don't take sides, you ask questions inquisitively searching for truth. For example, rather than asking questions like: "What do we do, since there is no more hope in the area of security and the Government has failed"? You rather ask specific questions like: "How much longer do we wait to see the Kaduna-Abuja train victims rescued and perpetrators brought to book"? " Why is Government not using technology or drones since we spend more money on defense" etc.

If you ask me, Rufai, everytime he speaks comes across to me as a mere political theorist rather than a balanced objective Journalist. I believe Abati and Rufai are just staunch PDP members.

bros, which day are we going to hold ourselves responsible for once, just once? Like, let's reflect on our very own doings and undoing? Why can't we ask ourselves why the market woman selling tomato in the market inflate price of her tomato and put the blame on dollar rise? Why should a landlord increase rent and claim prices of building materials are now expensive when he's not doing any renovation on the house? Let's ask ourselves why we chose to bribe an officer to make way way for us instead of going through the right process? See, all these things do not need government intervention but our conscience. We put the blame on the government a lot even when the fault is our. We put garbage into gutters and waterways, when rain fall and flood fills everywhere, we still blame the govt, why? Is it illiteracy or sheer wickedness?

Govt gives loans to the people, people didn't invest the monies on intended purposes and japaed, is it the govt fault? highest, govt won't do such interventions again if there's no headway on it and we'll still turn around to blame the govt.

Now , u still blame the govt on lack of accountability and that govt should strictly control things. Look, govt need the people for accountability too and govt can't control thing the way u put it unless we're in north Korea.

If govt pump out money for any intervention, they're pumping the money to us, if the officials are corrupt the same way we're corrupt, bros, nothing go show.
My bro, when you know the citizens are so unpatriotic and corrupt, what do you do as a Government? you systematically create checks and balances.
If for instance, one or two people get arrested by local community police, when they throw thrash into gutters, others would think twice before doing it, and slowly it becomes a culture not to throw garbage into gutters. When you disburse cash, you should also have data and consequences for defaulters, that's how it should be done. The citizens are to blamed of course, but Government have allowed certain things to happen.

my brother, the government is one hell of an entity, but we the masses are also hellish in nature, omo, our profiteering tendency is of huge magnitude, we don't care whose ox is gorged and we're all the same but have different or no opportunity. If some of us are to be at the helm of national affair, omo, country go dabaru pass like this.

Why I'm i saying this?

Around February, we went to inspect some shipment of wheat, a special kind of wheat that the FG, through CBN imported from Mexico, to be planted across some northern states, because that's where the wheat will grow. These wheat is said to give 10x production of what we produce. This is not them say them say matter, I used my korokoro eyes see am, na 3 ships bring am for here, I climb to the base of the ships to see the seeds. We spent 5 days going to and from apapa when the shipment landed.

Loro kan, 400 trucks of wheat seeds found their way to be distributed to wheat farmers across the northern states to be planted and Nigeria should be easing itself of wheat issue. Omo, recently, I asked my oga about the wheats, he shook his head and said the farmers sold the seeds to some wealthy men over there and the wealthy men are exporting it to neighboring countries to be sold at profit. Omo, wheat wey FG bought expensively, wealthy men took advantage of the poor farmers and bought most in bulk from them at a cheaper price.

So I asked, sebi government know about this? undecided they can't say they don't know.... Omo, las las, na dem dem dey do d runs. undecided

Baba, naija don cast, I comot my hand for anything naija. So don't blame the govt on most things, they're doing their possible best but we, the citizens consciously or unconsciously constitute majority of the problems we face.
Same thing happened with metering in 2020. Government spent money to ensure free metering, but what do we have instead? It's been sold all over at very huge profits.

The problem is also the Government. When there is no system or accountability in anything, that's what you get. Government have also given several loans to people at low interest rates to start their businesses in agriculture, and what did they do with them? Your guess is as good as mine, they japaed to expensive schools in the West where they now pay tuition fees.

Government should have controlled things strictly and there should have been systems and laws preventing these things. But no, they just release money or products and that's all. You don't do things that way.

A part of the reason why the naira is skyrocketing today as well as inflation is that the amount of naira pumped into the economy since 2020 COVID to kickstart the economy from the pandemic recession is not commensurate with the economic growth. Growth is just at an average of 3% yearly and doesn't justify the naira pumped into the economy to create more goods and services. So there is a massive naira cash in the economy more than before, meant to create more goods and services, but a lot of the citizens are not using the cash to do the needful due to corruption and there is no system in place by Government for check and balances, what you then get is high inflation.

The rulers are just stupid. If over the years they've been serious with investment in gas production and export they would have done a lot of partnership in that sector with gas multinationals. That would have solved Nigeria's forex cash flow by some extent.

Grain production is another we need to step up. Nigeria imports way too much wheat and for awhile now Buhari has introduced a 15% tax on wheat imports. That's why a regular loaf of bread goes for#600 now. There's heat resistant wheat that Nigeria can grow with success. And the southern governors should do more about food production. But t our leaders are just stupid, unimaginative and uncreative buffoons. I just hope we get it right in 2023.
Obasanjo was the only one who invested in gas (our NLNG trains) although with little aggression, before he left. After that, both Yar Adua and Jonathan completely abandoned them ( if only they had followed Obasanjo's gas template). Buhari revived the projects, but he started many things quiet late (late 2018-2022). Buhari's first three years were almost like a waste to me. Unfortunately again, COVID-19 struck in 2020 grin. Although Buhari is slow and makes some stupid decisions, his luck factor compared to say Ebele Goodluck Jonathan is also something else grin.
