Fourpockets: Yes konga I also think advertisement caused it, maybe lack of investor funds to konga. Like almost every ad, I watch on YouTube is a jumia ad. Also does konga operate outside Nigeria? Or They're still local
I assume they should be but I can't really tell. But the first country these firms love to go to usually is Ghana. If they are not in Ghana or Kenya, then they are probably not in any other African country. They were bought by Zinox (an indigenous computer/phone manufacturing firm) some 4 years ago though.
Fourpockets: Man, what happened to kings? It used to be very big way back in 2014 15. It's also the real Nigerian owned company, cos jumia is owned by white people, just that it started in naija
You mean Konga? Part of Jumia's success today can be ascribed to the competition she faced from Konga in the early days. Konga was way ahead of Jumia in terms of new innovations in their formative years back then. But then like you said, unlike Konga, Jumia is also owned by white people hence the spread of Jumia outside Nigeria much more than Konga, gave it that slight edge over the years.
rvp20182: Now makes sense why he was present and why fertilizer deal was announced. As long as he makes quality fertilizers why not.
I think they are quality fertilizers. He has been making good money on it since they began full scale in April. Just this year alone he has made around 500 million dollars on fertiliser.
One of Africa’s largest fintech companies, Interswitch, landed the biggest deal by a Nigerian startup in Q2 2022 as it secured $110 million in a joint investment from LeapFrog Investments and Tana Africa Capital to scale its digital payment services across Africa. The two investors said they would be supporting Interswitch’s next chapter through continued product innovation and growth across the African continent.
The investment secured in May came almost three years since Interswitch’s last disclosed funding round when Visa paid $200 million for a 20% stake in the company.
Interswitch powers much of the rails for Nigeria’s online banking system and is well-known for its point-of-sale terminals, online consumer payment platforms, Quickteller, and Verve, the biggest domestic debit card scheme in Africa, issuing over 35 million active cards since launch.
7arrows: Brother u r getting it wrong. Use somewhere like Dubai or south Africa or lets come down low make e no be like say we dey proud. Use Ghana or even Kenya. Things are working in those places.
What is working in Ghana and Kenya that is not working in Nigeria apart from stable electricity mostly in their capital?
GreatAxeMan: South Africa and Morocco have had more sophisticated railway systems for decades, while Nigeria/Lagos borrowed itself into debt in order to build something that is just a fraction of what the South Africans have. Nigerians are just fools. Not an insult but a statement of fact.
Okay, but Nigeria has it now, so why are you crying? Talking about debts, South Africa has almost 3 times the debt of Nigeria.
Meyldon: This is a Federal Government's project which was initiated by former President Goodluck. It's the new Lagos- Kano line, with the first phase just completed to Ibadan by Buhari's govt. It's basically an upgrade from the old narrow gauge to the new Standard gauge. Stop making indirect and baseless comparative reference just to score dubious political points. Kindly stop this nonsense.
Everything was inaugurated by Goodluck Jonathan. Everything. Goodluck Jonathan the inaugrator.
Ex-military general will not be on the ballot...so, we are going to witness true bread civilian government..
This is exciting...Atiku, Peter Obi or Tinubu..
I know all problems of Nigeria will be not be fixed at a go...but, I am certain there will be some glimpse of hope....as the new Government will truly drive a new Nigeria.
God Bless Nigeria.
Same spirit here. To me, it doesn't matter anymore. Because all three candidates have their strengths and flaws.
Who is most likely to steal less--Peter Obi Who is most likely to unite us more beyond tribal lenses--Atiku Who is most competent in terms of unlocking new avenues for revenues--Tinubu.
They all have their strengths and weaknesses, whoever wins, we pray their strengths prevail to the good of the nation.
Rozross: The man who governed Lagos successfully without federal government allocation is not fit for the job? Like seriously? Greatest joke of the century. Take it or take it Tinubu is coming with full force
He had federal Government allocation. New local Governments he built meant he didn't receive allocations for Local Government.
DukeofUmueri247: So BAT had all these wonderful ideas on how to turn Nigeria around and he failed to share them with Buhari for 7 good years If he had shared his ideas with the same Bubu he foisted on us then it would have been easier for us to queue behind and vote for him..
To be fair, he did share some ideas though. There are other videos like the one below where he gave his advice to federal Government. Whether all of his advice were followed is another thing entirely. Even Obasanjo couldn't control Yar Adua at all despite hand picking him personally.
obaaderemi: Glo has really found a way to Nigerians' hearts. It's expanding fast these days.
Yeah, they just needed that strength again in Nigeria in order to be rejuvenated, because I think they have been almost totally dominated by MTN in Ghana ( 2nd biggest market in West Africa) and of course would not be making that much of a killing in the other West African countries they've been operating in.
Active mobile subscriptions in Nigeria hit 208.6 million. Globacom leads gainers. Nigerian Government in my opinion can apply a 2% tax here to shore up revenue, but I don't know what they are doing.
Just40: well most of the media houses have become dependent on govt advertisement space purchases such that they are not as critical on govt as before..
So now, individual journalist together with CSOs have taken it upon themselves to keep exposing the hypocrisy
One thing though, Ghanaian economy has grown bigger over the past 5 years as well. Bigger economies comes with their bigger problems as well especially when your economy is largely informal and many enjoy being tax-free to a large extent.
QuietMynd: 2kMW is a small fry, bro, industries consume alot of power in Nigeria, reason why we don't have uninterrupted power yet, despite producing a total 13kMW 4 the economy. If Nigeria govt disconnect all manufacturing industries from the national grid, we will have excess of power to power the whole household.
And why did you guys like mentioning generator, I haven't experience power cut since 1 week ago, in the last 2 month I have at least 18-20 hours of power which is enough for me, I do even switch off my freezer to avoid bottle explosion. Not everyone runs generator, there re even some areas in Nigeria that don't know what they call power cut.
Osun state for instance including Osogbo, you would hardly find generators (even cybercafe's there don't buy fuel that much for their generators). It is not unusual to go 5 days without power cuts there. It goes that way there all the time (almost every week).
Mckandre: iswarri the only place in South south/south east? Learn to reason deeply before tapping the qoute button, twill go a long way for u.
So because you saw Warri-Itakpe, You assumed the rail goes from Warri and just lands magically at Itakpe without passing through Agbor and other areas in that vicinity? Is that how you reason? I think you'll need your advice more.
Hunchogee: shut up stop lying openly .. Bua had nothing to do with ibom deep seaport that was to br run by bolere and power China group of companies
True. I mixed up BUA's name (who is to work on the refinery in AkwaIbom) with the Chinese Company. But the rest of my post is still accurate. You can go and verify.
Yes it only serve Northern Nigeria. The majority of gas powered plants are located in the southern region. Nigeria could have been a sweet country due to the abundance in natural and mineral resources, but our archaic leaders prefer to divide the masses with religion and tribalism for their selfish purposes. All they know is oppression and conquest. It's same mentality that our youths who are actively involved in cultism do in various higher institution. The leaders know fully well that the hen that lays the golden eggs are located in the south yet they intentionally deprive especially the south eastern region of development. No be juju and wickedness be that? Life is very simple, if you do the right things, there won't be any room for agitation and misbehavior of youths. Go to majority of the countries in Europe, the people are all happy and everyone feels carried along. Why can't we stop oppressive tendencies in our society? Must we all act unnecessary hard and wicked?
Oga power from the dam would be added to the national grid.
PROUDIGBO: You probably had to wrack your brain to come up with these ones…..for a region that produces the bulk of Nigerias’ revenue!? You don’t find that ironic as well as pathetic!? Also, i notice you didn’t mention the south-east. Why’s that!?
Warri-Itakpe rail is part of what’s being done all over the country…with all regions supposed to have equal representation. As things stand today, NO new rail works are being carried out in any of the state capitals in both the south-south and south-east, and to go further, NO new rail works are being carried out ANYWHERE in the south-east! Cynics may even go further to posit that the bigoted and evil Buhari gov’t decided to touch the Warri-Itakpe line as it would impact the northern economy! You don’t see say a Calabar-Port rail, or a Onitsha-Port Harcourt rail being done presently…exclusively beneficial to the south-south or south-east regions like we see with the Lagos-Ibadan or Kaduna-Abuja-Kano rails!
That NLNG project was inevitably sited in the area of operation! It couldn’t have been sited anywhere else! But i’m sure they’ve thought of how to include the core north in this multi-billion dollar NLNG project, but couldn’t come up with anything! After all, they’ve done it before with the AKK gas pipeline and Kaduna refinery! Notice also how they NEVER concerned about trying to site any multi-billion dollar industry in the south-east like they are with the north-west!? Remember, the south-east has huge gas deposits too! They would sooner lay pipelines to suck the gas out of the south-east region and send to the north via AKK pipelines….or if they must site any multi-billion dollar gas project in the east, they’d rather choose the south-south then use pipelines to suck out any gas from the south-east to the projects concerned! Anything to stop them siting any worthwhile project in ‘nyamuree’ territory is welcome!
So far, the Bonny-Bodo bridge is the only sincere project you listed with no ulterior motives or question mark attached!
Come on man, ever heard of the OB3 gas pipeline from Kwale? The AKK gas pipeline is built to enable us export gas through Niger then to Algeria to Europe. Is Abia close to Niger or Algeria?
Guy please don't be uninformed 86% of Nigeria electricity comes from gas powered plants , while the remaining comes from dam. The Mambilla dam project is a mega project up north. For your information the country solely depend on oil and gas to survive. The gas deposit in eastern region can't be let go because of its great contribution to nation revenue and survival.
So my question remains; Would the dam serve only Northern Nigeria or all of Nigeria?
Why didn't you state the dam projects in the north plus other infrastructures? You guys just love petty propaganda. You keep disturbing people with second Niger bridge just to deviate people's attention from numerous projects going on up north. Continue.
So the dam project should be in the South? If the dam project in the North works, would it supply electricity to just the North or the entire country? The Kainji dam (our main source of power till today), does it supply electricity to only the North?
nesphil: The sad thing is that none of these projects is located nor passes through the state that produces the highest barrels and tons of gases in this country, I'm talking about Akwa Ibom State.
The marginalization is alarming
Every single infrastructure in Akwa Ibom State is built by the state government after some uninformed haters will come to the Akwa Ibom thread and spew trash.
Federal Government has completely marginalized the state that produces over 35% of Nigeria's foreign exchange earner, but that state still keeps cool and concentrates on developing itself.
imagine the federal government promoting and prioritizing Leeki Deep Seaport and not doing so to the Ibom Deep Seaport too even when Lagos has two already existing seaports. Their bias is very obvious.
Ibom deep seaport was to be privatized and worked on by BUA. Your AkwaIbom people are stalling the project over land brouhaha. Same thing happened with Ondo and the Dangote refinery. Land issues/ compensation brouhaha. Such things hardly happen in Lagos, that's why Lagos attracts investments. Nor be everything be marginalisation, sometimes our people have to look inwards and ask themselves critical questions.
