Hmmmm. God please provide him protection and never allow peace in the life of the kidnapers.

Enugu state is due for security CCTV cameras at strategic places. In addition to having an independent IT sophisticated security.

Its funny how some uneducated forest guards and vigilantes are always looked up for issue of security whenever we want to complement police efforts. Why can't a city like Enugu run an independent intelligent security system?

The security of Enugu state should be paramount in the mind of any right thinking Igbo man. We need an aggressive and independent security network to secure the city. Ugwuanyi is trying in the area of security but more still need to be done.

What we need is to provide jobs to the army of jobless and underemployed young people roaming the streets.

The highest level of security cannot stop what is going on in Nigeria. Only good governance can

Family / Re: How Can I Stop Helping My Cousin Without Feeling Guilty About Her Kids? by GeneralShepherd(m): 12:53pm On Nov 26, 2019
J111333:
This is personal so please be courteous with your comments.

I have a married female cousin who takes church serious more than her life, well I don't wanna waste your time with that part of the story.

I have tried to help her husband and her financially for a long time now and I'm afraid I've turned from helper to head of household, not funny. I jokingly told them to hang their boots after they had their fourth child but as I'm typing this, baby five just landed.

Their first son just got admitted into Unilag and guess who they called to help. I've severally decided to stop helping but thoughts of those lovely kids of theirs have always affected my decisions.

I told the newly college admitted boy to open a bank account so that I can channel my help properly but her mum said he wasn't 18 yet so she would be the one running the account until then.

A little background story.

My cousin is a graduate but helps her husband in an imaginary business of his which I have put in like N10m if not more yet nothing to show for it. I later switched to helping my cousin get a job, she ended up getting duped of the money meant to pursue the job Nigerianly.

She was/is my favourite cousin growing up and she was more than a nanny to my sister and I when we were little.

How can I put an end to this madness without feeling guilty about the kids? Mind you, I love their kids very much.

Well like I said

Someone who wants to move to Canada should not do so for financial reasons (like wanting to get super rich)
Any one going with such mentality will be sorely disappointed

I'm not sayin every one should port

Many Africans are content with the mess and shittiness of the dark continent, and can't fit in elsewhere, so their best bet is to stay

Racial abuse?

Hahaha
With the strong tribalism and ethnicity in Nigeria (especially if you are an igbo man like myself), what mouth do we have to complain about "racial abuse"

Super rich? Of course not . Richer than they were in Nigeria for majority of Nigerians this holds true

I simply said that one can easily make 100k in Australia per annum. And I still stand by my statement confidently .

In my statement I never said that Australia has no poor people.
I can also categorically say that it is easier to make 100k in Australia and Canada than it is to make in Nigeria with high degree of confidence

So you work in debt collection and you have come across debtors. It's the same as saying if you work as a police officer in Canada and witnessed crimes therefore the rate of crime in Canada is the same as the rate of crime in Nigeria.

No one ever said that there are no poor people in Canada and Australia. I never made that assertion but comparatively Nigeria is miles behind these countries on every count

Okay .... continue. Nigeria is better than Canada and Australia. With rate of unemployment at almost 23% vs two countries with 5% unemployment rate.

Let's not compare the minimum wage in both countries, the ease of doing business in both countries.

Lol for NI500 I get 6GB data in Nigeria. If you're a YouTube fan you'll watch videos as much as you want for cheap. I won't advertise the networks but I think data price is not too bad here don't give wrong impressions. Plus bonuses on calls are not bad at all. For example some networks give as much as 3 times the amount you recharge or even more.

I use about 60Gb a month

What kind of no-brainer claim is this?

I still did enough sociology (despite scientific orientation) to know the drivers of migration or even just common sense.

Australian has a higher GNI than China, India, Brazil, Nigeria, Pakistan, Indonesia and other countries with large populations.

In fact over nearly 6 billion of the world's 7 billion people live in countries much poorer than Australia. So does it take a genius to know that it receives more immigrants? shocked shocked shocked shocked

Tell me these countries you claim Australians are rushing to let's analyse earnings and standard of living .

We can then compare how many nationals from those countries that move to Australia vs Australians that move there.

We also compare whether these moves are indeed for economic reasons or for cultural enrichment

The question we should ask people shouting tax is how much they have saved from their income here in Nigeria.
I buy generator, buy fuel, pay electricity bill, noise pollution and air pollution from my generator detriment to health...
Roads are bad leading to higher cost of car maintenance.
My pumping machine had fault last month, I knew how much I spent. We fix our water ourselves.
Security is worrisome, before u make a case to police u have to settle them.
Land lord association make their roads themselves, contribute to provide security.
All these is worse than tax and yet you suffer poor amenities, poor health care.
Never pray to have health issue in this country, you will hate yourself.

Yet someone is shouting tax tax tax.....

Worst of all, we face everyday of our life fighting for survival, the time I use to worry about the bad road, generator, security etc could have been well spent thinking creatively.
Abeg oo, nothing comes free, the people that built their country did not build it on a bed of rose...if you want to explore other countries, do it and pay the tax..with hopes of getting rewarded... Not shouting trash that people are suffering in other countries.. Lol, please that kind suffer better pass this one.
15million pere, people are shouting business, doing business with 15million in the part of the world where the difficulty of doing business is second to none

God bless you for this comment. I have been wondering if everything is free in Nigeria and cars don't get maintained .

Well an average footballer playing for a mid-table EPL team can earn average £25K per week. Does every Nigerian go to play football in England?

Abeg make una dey reduce this hype.

It's mostly guys new abroad (typically under 7 years) who hype things anyhow. If you have been there longer, grow up.

I know people who earn lots of money, inf act I see them throughout the week BUT they never indulge in hyping income generally.

You know it better than Australians, born, bred, raised and educated there? They did professional jobs before migrating.

Minimum wage is mostly pegged considering consumer prices/cost of living, inflation, etc. Nobody is saying minimum wage is not relatively high or that lifestyle is crap.. Cost of living is relatively high too.

What I dispute is someone claiming that earning 100k per annum is easy for Nigerians.

More people immigrate to Australia than emigrate. I still maintain my claim

I am talking about Australia oo not Canada. Secondly the phone plan you talk about is still cheaper in NIGERIA for the same services.

Currently I don't even think any mobile carrier offers unlimited data. Plus I usually buy my phone outright and pay SIM only contracts.

I just broke down my phone bill in Australia and compared it with Nigeria. You pay 60 for unlimited calls and unlimited data. Try and use data as you like and make calls as you like and tell me how much ypur bill will be in Nigeria.

Are these bills not relevant to Nigeria? I am currently visiting Nigeria, I paid 15k to get just 40 Gb of data.

15k is about 45 AUD in Australia I pay 60AuD for unlimited data, unlimited calls nationally, 300 minutes to Nigeria and 1000 minutes to Canada, US and Europe.

Phone bills are more expensive in Nigeria , the lower quality internet available is also more expensive than what is obtainable in Australia.

So I really don't even understand this argument ab out bills when bills are even more expensive in Nigeria

You see the problem you have is this. You are giving advise through your own context or experience. You said people as young as 25yrs. Here we are talking about someone who is probably in mid-20s or early 30s that is just coming from Nigeria. And you want to compare that same person with native Australians or someone from an immigrant family living in Australia or who moved there, already got an education there. Is permanent resident in Australia automatic if you school there? Will you get job right away after living school as a foreign student. Put context in your response. While you are more concerned about people back home not thinking you are living a tough life in Australia, I am more concerned about giving advise on all possibilities.

I do not care about what anyone thinks about how I live in Australia at all. It doesn't bother me.
I give my advise because I know for a fact that for an average Nigerian graduate there is more prospects for them in Australia than NIGERIA.

You can ask anyone who lives in Australia. Yes currently it is getting increasingly difficult to settle in Australia on a permanent basis but that was never my argument.

We were talking about economic upliftment

How much of that $70k remain in your bank account at the end of the year. And that $70k is the gross income before tax. What's the net income? Look beyond the immediate numbers. Australia has high income tax rate.

Biko is there anyone in Nigeria that has 15m in their account at the end of year that is not a CEO? How many businesses in Nigeria make 15m in profit per annum?

$70k is income before tax, it is an entry-level position, salaries grow. You can start your own business, getting a loan is easy.

To each their own, if you prefer Nigeria, your choice. For me after living in 2 different countries, I sure know that Nigeria is not in my plan as a place to raise my family.

I am only challenging the prevailing notion here that people living in western countries are suffering. What you term suffering is even less stressful than an average dude that lives on the mainland and works on the Island in Lagos

I can only laugh. Let us analyze your lie very well since you think I am based in Nigeria. I wish I can give you my name and do a search on Google with it. So, let us list typical monthly expenses and you list the amount you pay for each. What's your annual tax?

Mortgage or rent, health insurance, auto loan, auto insurance, day care for kids, property tax (annual), Annual home community tax (for property owner, if any), life insurance, utilities, internet/phone; you can add or remove from the list based on Australia context.

To clarify again, the comment you read gave one side of the possibility while a second comment I gave after also gave another (possibly rosy) side. Point is how many % of Nigerians get to that rosy side. You don't just give a one side rosy picture. Give both side because not everyone would have your level of perseverance, hardwork or foresight. At a point in my life in West, I was at a six-figure income. It took over 15years of investment of time and hardwork after first-degree. And there are no guarantees. Please learn how to advice people the right way. There are lots of immigrant Nigerians living tough lives.

I am an immigrant who lived in Australia ,UK ,currently in Nigeria and will soon be moving to Canada.

Your salary in the West depends on the country you live , the type of work you do. Starting salary at Google is 100k , Amazon 120k for a software engineer.

A Nigerian doctor in the UK just bought his house after two years. Nigeria cannot be compared to any western country in terms of opportunities, I can confidently tell you that.

Like I said, I made my first million(naira) within months of living in Australia. I lived in Melbourne for 3 years. Made over nearly 300k in those three years, got a degree to booth. Could have made a down payment for an apartment if I wanted to.

Unless and immigrant is in the West illegally it doesn't take too long to settle in. So biko stop deceiving you people
