Suffered a similar fate this afternoon in the hands of one Bala Danjuma, a police officer, between Okene and Lokoja en route to Zaria. I had to part with N1000 after he had poked my right eye and threatened to break my leg after I confronted him as to why I will be travelling around with the receipt of a laptop I've been using since 2012. I have already obtained the phone number of the police commissioner in Kogi State. I will report the said policeman to everyone who cares to listen. |

Wiseandtrue: What do you really consider as heroic? Be honest if it were to be the other way round what do you think will happen Even OBJ tasted it for 8 year you know what happened. Already before the presidential election many fled from their homes but GEJ made it possible for them to come back. It was a big sacrifice a selfless person can make. He gave INEC free hand without meddling be honest how many of our past leaders have done that? You heard the OP that he met the criteria. Friend either anyone + the opposition like it or not for this singular act GEJ will be remembered all over the world. You have to give him that According to you, citing the OP, he met the criteria. When did the OP become part of the awarding committee? He lost an election and vacated office on that count and you call that a "big sacrifice"!? Huh? Is the political seat his father's or his grandmother's? You also appear to have forgotten that he had the election postponed and gave a flimsy excuse for that? Or is it Orubebe that has escaped your mind? Or the fiasco that was in Rivers? Or the looting of public funds to buy votes? |

Wiseandtrue: Hahaha but it got your attention even though you are a ghost which means it matters. To me, maybe, because I'm puzzled as to why you think leaving a post after the occupant had been voted out in a democracy is something heroic. To the organisers, it doesn't, otherwise you'd be here celebrating the fellow in question, not 'respecting' him. |

Wiseandtrue: Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim chaired and you expect GEJ to win? When Mandela was the president there were people who were corrupt under him. Twice GEJ has brought peace and avoided blood shed 1. During Obasanjo era he helped with the militants 2. Conceding to defeat which is rear amongst African presidents in his generation. GEJ is not perfect but he will always have my respect for looking beyond his ambition in other to save many lives. I think he deserve that award. Please note that I am not from the same region as the immediate past president. God bless Nigeria Thankfully, your "respect" doesn't matter in this case. |

To those trying to make this another Igbo vs Yoruba thread, what obtained in Yorubaland around the time the picture was taken wasn't any different. I remember that not long ago my grandpa was talking about the exposed upper half of early-adult girls and their dark n!pples in those days. Asking a girl to cover up herself from the nape of her neck to her ankles, in the name of decency, was actually alien to us back then. The story is different today though. We lost the narrative, we lost power. |

Politics › Re: A Brief History Of Ile-ife by Ghost01(m): 11:56pm On Jun 06, 2016 |
9jacrip: I'm just seeing this.
The writer, from the snapshot, did a good job but the emboldened holds no water.
Why?
The elders of Ife were all heads of their several sections but with a rotational confederacy and prior to Oduduwa, there had been about 90 individuals who filled the position.
If there had been about 90 something confederacy heads then it makes Oduduwa a 'prophetic' figure which is in no way historical but rather mythical.
The disagreement was largely over those who should live on hills and those who should live in the fertile valleys. Oduduwa and his clan wanted to move down from the hill to be a part of the confederacy and was opposed by others, especially Orelu Ore who poisoned a member of Oduduwa's family. (Orelu Ore started the beef).
Hill(s) settlers wanted to live and own fertile parts of the valleys but their rejection meant they had to start war.
Obatala being high from Palm Wine for most of the period made for a a horrible leader in the time of war and the dislike people like Obameri,Lokore, Baba Sigidi, Gbonkaa had for him got them switching sides.
The war was hot, there was a lot of destruction, it was in the thick of the war Obatala realized his love for alcohol/intoxication did him more harm than good and tried to quit to focus on the war but it was too late. The larger part of Ife had already grown to see Oduduwa as a better warrior/leader.
Obameri did a good job to frustrate Obatala, he forced him to Ideta Oko where the latter's brother (Osangangan Obamakin) was king (of Ugbo - Ilaje/Mahin) who then stepped down for his big brother, hence, Obatala became king in Ideta Iranje Oko - a base from where several attacks were launched but effected little to no changes. (Oba takun takun l'ode Iranje).
During our procession, we tow the same path our fathers took during the exile; from the family compound we walk through Ita Olopo Street, face the Ayegbaju church then walk through Oja Ife then come out through Moore then head for Mokuro. I think Obameri & Lokore both have/had homes in that neighbourhood considering the songs we sing when we trudge past the Ayegbaju church area depicts 'beef' song.
Oh, I should add that the Obameri guy had palm wine in a gourd while walking us out of Ife to Igbo Ogbe. When we stepped into the Mokuro axis, he drew a line/boundary by pouring palmwine on the floor drawing a line with it (an insult & a reminder of Baba's fall).
His descendants do this to us during every Itapa festival but upon our return into Ife, they pour water on the flour to wash it off for us to walk on.
I'll add a snapshot below: Thanks for the elucidation, sir. Comprehensive as usual. |

Feeding pupils in schools does not hinder having sound economic policies. States like Ekiti and Osun have been feeding pupils in schools for years now, though not on a daily basis due to financial constraints, and we are yet to hear anything such as poisoning. Let's appreciate a good idea when we see one. |
